Here in favor for ASUS to update ICS on the Prime to include a restart button say "I"
This tablet needs a restart option, not just a turn off option. I am constantly having to restart my tablet due to apps that won't free up components or services that fail after they've been used.
Google, ASUS, you already know Microsoft is going to have this available for Windows 8.
Why not get the jump ahead of them and put out an update that add more common computer functions to these tablets which are after all computers. But right now they feel like crippled computers.
Google, there's no reason why you offer free phone calls from Gmail phone for Windows based PC browsers, but don't offer it on the Android browsers, your own child. What a shame. Am I the only one recognizing this whole in thinking?

Just download one from the market, foo.

Exactly!!!!!

be warey of the restart apps, there have been some reports that they do not fully "off" the prime. If you do any hardcore changes you are still best to fully turn off the prime, count to 5, and start er up again.
Be warned!

LOL, is that anything like, "say aye".

Right about now Asus is in talks with StaplesUSA, they want their EASY button....lol

Aye! Yaar me hearties! Aye be waiting fer a reboot button!

I fully agree, I wish there was a restart button.
BUT, the problem I'm assuming is that it would imply that the system isn't reliable and may need be restarted sometimes. Just a wild guess.

I'd love to see this function implemented in stock rom. Just place it in the "hold power button" menu next to the shut down option.

+1
Asus go ask Archos how to do it.

buy yea seriously it's not anything hard to implement yourself and anyways how hard is it to turn it off wait 3 seconds and hit it again

Can't you just hold down the power button for a few seconds? That's what I always do.

guys I'm not asking for Prime to part the red sea, I'm just wanting their to be a simple computer function like a restart option, due to frequency I'm experiencing of having to shut the damn thing off and turn it back on to get certain components to work i.e. camera after it fails between use from programs.
If Windows and Apple's iOS have a simple restart option, why would this be a pain to ask from Google.

There's already one on the TFP. It's called the "reset button".
All you need is a pin to push it.
Personally, I think that if you are having to reset your TFP that much, it's either defective or you are running bad software on it.

Download quickboot from the market. multiple reboot options including recovery and bootloader

H!!!!
****, I mean I!!!!

The Prime already has a Restart option...that's what the random reboots are for. Duh!

***** please yo folks! I am on the latest update and the uptime is 47 hours. I believe I restarted my prime while I was trying to root it. By looking at the logs on my computer, I did the rooting 47 hours 9 minutes ago, since the time of this posting...
No random reboots here!
I'll keep an eye on it though.

I just open terminal emulator.....(rooted)
su
reboot

that's funny because iOS dosen't have a restart option and it takes more work to turn it off at that even though it's not really hard i'm not sure if windows phone has a restart though.

[Q] com.google.process.gapps crashes

Hi everyone. It's been two days since the process com.google.process.gapps has started crashing, "stopping unexpectedly" whenever i use the browser on my tab.
Reading the error report, it seems (not 100% sure about that) this is somehow related to the bookmarks sync with Chrome, but i can't find a way to disable this.
Has anyone exprerienced the same issue? Any known solution? Thanks
Go to settings > accounts and sync, click on your account then uncheck everything, then manually sync everything one by one to see what is causing the error.
Then go to manage apps and clear the cache of all the problem apps and re-sync them once you're done. It might take a few tries but it should take care of that error.
I'll try that as soon as possible, thanks!
browser sync was causing this for me
I believe that bookmarks sync no long works with galaxy tab. Google changed something on their end that should have worked fine(it still works on the xoom, transformer, etc.) but since samsung changed a bunch of stuff for no apparent reason, it is now broken. samsung is so stupid sometimes..
So you're basically suggesting that bookmarks sync should stay off to avoid problems like that?
well I don't really know. I never used bookmark sync in the first place. I'm just going by what is said in this article.
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/perlow/br...gle-or-the-oems/17840?tag=mantle_skin;content
It turns out that at some point Google started making some changes to the backend systems that handle Google’s user account data. There’s nothing wrong with them doing this; it happens all the time. In fact, no other Android 3.1 tablets had any issues at all with the changes, and their bookmark sync continued to work without a blip on the radar.
Not Samsung, however... I did some digging around the internet, and it’s become somewhat well-known amongst Android developers that Samsung actually modifies core source code in the Android operating system that handles communicating with Google’s backend data services.

Well, that's a pity. I had just started to think it was a useful tool to keep track of unread web pages between work, home and outside...
Let's hope Samsung somehow fixes that.
PS: disabling bookmarks sync actually stops the process from crashing, I think I've solved (if we could really say so...) the issue. Thanks to all!
Thanks, disabling auto sync for browser has stopped the error. Samsung developers need to fix this - I can't auto sync my gmail
What am I missing here?
Ok be prepared, this post may be rather long winded however I will try my best to prevent that. I have a Tmobile G2x I purchased on launch date. Ive not attempted to Root, change roms, or anything of the sort. (as much as I always wanted to, I always felt that my skills were not good enough to attempt these ideas no matter how easy they may seem. I just did not want to be the cause of screwing up my phone that I paid dearly for)
So I have a friend who claims to be the master (of disaster so it turns out) of rooting androids and such. He stops by my house just to hang out and eventualy convinces me to let him root my phone and install CM7. Within a few minutes the phone was rooted (super1click) and was running CM7 release candidate. (I really dont know what all these things truly are but I drilled him for answers once he jacked up my phone and left me with a half-bricked phone) So he installed Rom manager and convinced me to upgrade to the premium version via marketplace so I did. He was then showing me how easy it was to flash new roms at the touch of a few buttons. He put on some other rom which looked like CM7 but claimed to have extra tweaks. It worked fine. A few minutes later he put on some Faux Rom which gave a boot up screen like my old Nexus One did. (Multicolored X) It seemed to work fine as well. Then he said lets check out the nightly CM7 Rom so he put it on. (however I dont think it ever actually put CM7 back on.-still on Faux?) Thats when things got crazy.
Now I get the com.google.process.gapps force close message all the time. He tried to fix it for 4 hours and finally gave up. Here is what I know he/we tried: After searching the internet for hours we tried everyone elses ideas. Clearing calenders cashes, un syncing, etc. We did about 40 factory resets. We have tried to install my backup (which was from BEFORE he even touched my phone) and upon holding both volume rockers and plugging in USB (no battery installed) and it still does nothing. Windows recognizes device but phone screen stays black. Tried Debug mode while doing this as well. If we hold the volume down button and power the little install bar comes on the screen and it does its thing (whatever that is) and goes right back to the way it was. I keep getting the gapps message all the time. After factory reset I cant even type in my gmail address to start the initial setup of the phone. The force close keeps cutting me off. If I type fast, I can sync the account but I cant use market whatsoever. Tried installing Rom manager to re-flash but just sticks at starting download and gapps pops up again.
My son is starting school tomorrow and he has a medical condition. I NEED this phone to communicate with the school nurse via emails and such. As of now I can only text, call, or surf web all while dodging force closes. If ANYONE out there can please help me get my phone back to normal Id greatly appreciate it. Im sure its something easy but as I said before, Im not good at this thing and thats why I never attempted it myself. Your welcome to submit answers here or PM me your phone # if you want to walk me through it on the phone. (I have a landline phone to talk to you on) Thanks in advance for everyones time and Im sorry this ended up being so long.
Hello,
Based on your post, I would suggest that you search your phone's development forum on XDA for a compatable clockwork recovery mod which will install a custom recovery on your phone. The thread will give you instructions on how to do so and how to enter recovery mode.
You can then enter the 'Backup and Restore' part of the recovery and restore your backup manually without using ROM manager. If this doesn't work, I would suggest that you then download the ROM of your choice and install it from the clockwork recovery. Make sure you clear user data and wipe the cache before you install.
Any fix yet? This is really annoying me as I rely on my bookmarks tremendously.
try this:
Open stock browser and under settings choose clear cache and deletehistory

Please help Galaxy s 2 ATT

OKay, so this is my first android phone, coming from an Iphone 4 and let me tell you im about 80% disappointed.
Here are some problems im having, im hoping that you can help me turn that 80 into a 20.
1. Apps just randomly run in the background: I'll close all but my live background, my task manager and my alarm clock and go to sleep. When I wake up almost EVERY SINGLE app I have is running in the background. Why? How do I stop this, the Iphone never did this, I feel this is a hard fail on androids part.
2. Many apps force close while im trying to use them: Ive tried stock rom, and serenity 8, same apps same issues. Its becoming a turn off to use the phone for any apps.
3. Multitasking: Is there any? MOST of the time when I switch apps and "multitask" its just like having the app open at the start page, I dont have to reload the app but its not where I last left it like the Iphone. Even on web pages I find if I switch out of the web and go to another app if I return to the web im back at my home page and I have to go to my history just to get back where I was. Is there a way for me to fix this?
4: Ram usage: when I turn my phone off, then on I see 150 in the used ram. This number raises even with out opening any apps. I kill all apps and close all running programs I see nothing running except services and it raises as high as 600 mb with 0 apps open and nothing running except a live background and the task manager. My iphone never had a memory leak, how do I fix this? 600 mb to do nothing is a bit excessive.
As a software developer im really confused as how Google tricked everyone that android was good. Perhaps Im just uninformed and that is why I am here. I am wondering why there would be all these problems right out of the box on an item that is what 4th 5th generation? These are problems that shouldnt be as frequent in 1st and 2nd generations. Any help would be wonderful thank you.
1. this question has been asked a million times. In short, the Android OS handles memory much different than you'd expect. An app will appear as running after you close it but it may not be. Android just keeps that memory allocated to that app in case you need to use it again. But if the OS needs that memory for something else, it will release it from that app and use it for something else.
2. what apps FC on you?
3. i'll leave this for someone else to explain because I dont use the browser much so I dont have much experience with that.
4. this goes along with my answer for #1. Android OS likes to have its memory allocated but it doesnt mean those apps are running.
I might be a little off on my explanation so I'll leave it to the experts to clarify but i'm pretty sure i'm fairly accurate.
1/4 - Not deficiencies, Android is designed that way. If an app is resident in memory, it is more readily accessible. Some badly written apps DO more than just sit there in the task list - but most are OK. Sitting in memory is not bad - holding a wakelock or showing up in your battery usage is.
2 - No clue - not having this problem here. I haven't seen an FC in a few weeks, and the last one was my own fault. What apps?
3) This depends on the app. However, usually the browser returns to wherever I last was when I use it. In fact I wish it were easier to "go home"...
3) Matter of using the right button. Close the app with the home button, and restart it where it left off. Back out of the app with the back button, and start over.
List off apps that FC on me Both stock and Serenity 8:
Alarm Clock Plus
Chase
email
Gmail
hootsuite
maps
market
netflix
qik
web
Also no matter how I work the web 60% of the time I start back at my home page.
Lastly to do anything on android it seems like a process, just to switch from one app to another I have to do this, then that, then this, now im on my other app... Iphones multitasking is button click im there. Is there a multitasking app that works kinda like iphones? I really like the tray that holds ALL my open apps. Im trying hard to like this phone and android but being able to customize and have widgets just does not seem like it is worth it. Unless there are some really big secrets im missing.
Thank you all for the answers as well!
i really dont know what to tell you about the FC's because none of those FC on me ... whether I was stock or not. That just doesnt sound right. If you're stock, it shouldn't be FC'ing at all. I can understand if you're rooted and running S8 or some other ROM. Maybe something happened during the flash but stock should be fine.
I'm also trying out the browser on my phone and if I load a random website, go home, open another app and go back to the browser, its still on the last page I viewed.

If you're swithing from app to app, and want to do it more quickly, hold the home button for a few seconds (pretty much anywhere, no need to go 'home' first). It will open up a list of the last 6 apps you've used. Pretty sure from the point you left off.
holding the home button does work pretty well, although sometimes it does not have the last couple apps I was using, mainly Go SMS pro. I am currently running S8 thought it was stable, guess i'll reflash and give this another go for a week, if not then its return to the IP and trade this back for the 4s. Thanks for the help!
Any suggestion on what rom to flash to?
Having THAT many apps FC on you is usually a sign that you did one of two things:
1) Forgot to wipe data/factory reset when installing a new ROM
2) Performed an improper Titanium Backup restore - restoring more than just "MISSING apps and data"
Chase
email

market
netflix

I'm running Serendipity 8.1 and do not have any problems with these apps from your list. You may need to re-flash.
Edit: what Entropy said.

any of them are good but I personally use UnNamed. You really should wipe your phone first. Thats probably why you have so many FC's. When you flash a new rom, make sure you do NOT restore system apps via Titanium Backup (if thats what you use).

To switch between running apps all you have to do is long press the home button - one press to see the last six open apps and your there.
Having the browser return to the home page every time just means you don't know what you are doing.
Being concerned about what is being held in ram its also a sign you don't know what you are doing. The memory chip where the ram resides, where you see a list of apps being held has to remain powered on all the time. Whether it is holding 250 MB of data, 500 MB of data or just 10 MB of data it will still be drawing the same amount of power. And just because an apps data is being held in ram does not necessarily mean it is running. Top see what us running you need to check cpu usage.
The only time to concerned about ram is if more than 85% is being used then you would start having problems. But this does not happen on our phones, and only would happen if you had something causing a major memory leak.
All of your force closes are related to you or your particular phone. I have maybe five fc's in a month and three of those happened while I was running cm7.

Lot of user error here. I'm on the stock ROM with root.
Switch apps quickly by holding home.
If you use the back button to exit an app then you truly are exiting the app. Use home if you want it to start running.
Don't worry about ram usage. This device has 1GB and Android manages it very well without you ever having to worry.
I never have force closes unless it's the developers issue. If you're running from backed up apps then you can expect to have FCs. Install from fresh if you try a new ROM.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
I think the main reason the op is having his browser reset most of the time is because the op is using some kind if task killer. This task killer is also probably the cause of a significant portion of the fc's being experienced.
There should be a forum rule against people who run task killers then complain about fc's, laggy apps, and problems with multitasking.
I mean it should be obvious running a "task killer" on a device designed specifically to multitask - it is so silly. Look at the two phrases side by side "task killer" "multitasking device" - can you see what I mean.

Just because you don't know how to use a device does not make the device a general fail. Let's put the blame where it belongs, on the guy who has no understanding on what is going on with the processes in the device and drawing conclusions on based on an obviously ignorant perception those observations.

Samsung has a tips and tricks page specifically for the AT&T GS2 that may show you some things you didn't know. One thing I didn't know was that you can take a screenshot with stock by pressing the power button and the home button at the same time. I also didn't know you can access the clipboard to show everything you "copied" from text fields.
http://www.samsung.com/us/article/tips--tricks-galaxy-s-ii-at-t-
As far as the OP's issues, I have all of those apps except for chase and hootsuite installed on stock and I don't FC at all. For the browser concerns, you may just be opening a new window each time you run the browser from the app icon. Try zooming all the way out of the page and then pinch to zoom out once more and it will show you the windows you have open, or you can press the menu key and select windows. The icon for "windows" in the menu will have a number on it if you have more than one open.

First bricked device? (kind of)

Well, I posted about this in another thread but figured I would post here to get more exposure.
So, here is the issue. I rooted my NT and renamed the LatinIME.apk to LatinIME.apk1 so I can move my swiftkey apk (which I was going to rename LatinIME.apk). Of course, I had a blonde moment and renamed the built in APK before renaming the swiftkey apk and I lost the keyboard. No big deal right? Just reset device. So, I reset by going into settings and doing the reset/deregister device. Got back into the set up....still no keyboard. So I tried a hard key reset (n and power) and still no keyboard.
It appears that, when doing a reset, the device wipes all data but does not actually RESET the OS through any recovery type process.
Question........any ideas? I can't get adb obviously because I have lost debugging.
Curious if there might be anyway to boot the device differently to access shell or something. Hopefully someone has an idea, I have to wait tell monday to replace it if it comes to that
what about installing nook color tools then you can get back to the development menu. enable usb debugging and take care of the rest with adb.

As I understand it. Nook color tools is an apk...which I cannot install due to not being able to get past the B&N account login screen. Can't get past that without a keyboard
I'm in a similar boat. Was trying to get the market working following the thread on the other page, and I copied the entire apps folder over my existing one (why I didn't backup the old one!) Now I have no keyboard either, and I'm getting constant force closes!
Maybe someone could post an un-modified system folder?
Try a failed 8 boots, turn on, after black N screen hold power until screen turns off and repeat 8 times.
^. After a certain amount of failed boots the nook will default into a total factory reset. Witnessed it earlier today when after installing Chainfire the NT went into a a boot-loop. Then automatically reset itself.
Worth a shot.
Well, I tried 8 failed boots, and it didn't re-image. I then peeked in the rom/devconf/ folder and there's no "bootcnt" file?
*edit* Got it to work. Took 10 times.
Ok, so I kept trying to boot which resulted in it eventually giving me a screen saying "please reboot your device. If the error continues contact customer support or goto nook.com/tablet/support". The website was no help. Took it to a store, they called customer support and got confused. Customer support told them to replace it. So they did...I didn't even have to give back my charger...so now I have an extra!
Returns
I really hope B&N Customer Support figures out it would be a heck of a lot cheaper to let us run our own image off an SD card, and not have to deal with all the customer support calls and returns.
Unfortunately - they are much more likely to yell Warranty Violation and refuse to do anything...
Would it have been possible to mount the device and access it from Ubuntu and then just renaime the file?
Got mine to re-image. Re-rooted and market installed. I'm happy again!
Sent from my BNTV250 using Tapatalk
Details please. How did you do it?
You power down, then power back on. As soon as the white screen comes up (with the "n" on it) hold down the power button until it powers down again. Do this ten times in a row and it will automatically start the re-image. If at any time the boot animation starts up you have to start over.

For the particular issue I was having...no. Since I reset the device I was not able to get past the B&N login screen and therefor had no access to the /system/app folder. Although, it seems that some people are having success with the re-image process. I think mine was trying to re-image but something was corrupt and caused my to have worse issues that resulted in nothing but replacement.

Am I the only one putting off ICS to watch everyone else's comments?

And glad I did. Not that you can more than 3 times, but it buys me some time to read what's up, makes some preparations, and glad I did.
1. GPS removed it seems (or ability to turn it on)
2. some reboot issues & failed ICS installs due to rooted users (like me) removing bloatware (not me)
3. interesting claim ramp up in CPU speed (but it is being debated)
4. keep root with Root keeper BEFORE doing ICS
Again, we can only put it off 3 times and I used my first time to put off for a "day". But I like sitting back and watching everyone else tell what they see.. Anyone else putting it off?
I will wait. Is there not a file we can rename so as not to be forced?

I was rooted and used Rootkeeper and still have root. Installed and booted just fine for me. GPS being removed sucks. Even though GPS sucked, at least let us have what we had

GPS is in settings? Still there. Also, had root, froze some bloatware apps, did the update, no problems at all. Root is gone, but I'm sure they'll get it back very soon.
Yeah, some are now reporting it is just removed from the quick settings menu which is uber lame IMHO. I like quick access to settings like that.. Seems like they are doing what they can to make it "disappear" without removing it. Out of sight, out of mind. Going to have to use a lame GPS widget instead.

1. do bookmarks correctly sync with chrome yet?
2. does the battery usage setting now correctly show installed apps and not just system processes?

1. No idea
2. Nope
#2 was a hugely touted function and improvement in ICS - enough so that at the ICS conference months back they took the time to show it off. Nice to see Asus did not upgrade their kernel to take advantage of a pretty great native ICS feature
My google bookmarks show now

You made a long winded thread based on iffy second hand info. Seriously?
You think they took gps away via ics?
unnecessary thread
There 20 other ics threads

My TF101 will go to ICS a week or so after the ROM I'm using is updated to account for it.
When it arrives, my TF201 will be updated all the way to the current version.
Always have a backup plan .

The point of this thread was NOT to start an ICS *****ing thread, it was suppose to be about finding out if there were others that were patient enough to wait and see how it unfolds. It took a turn I could not control.
Anyway, you can postpone 3 times. 1 options is "1 day". I did that last night and expected 24hrs and yet this morning, I had to use my second postpone and selected 1 day again and then a mere 15 minutes I had to use it again.... so I have 1 left but I guess "1 day" i not 24 hours

[Q] serious lag all of a sudden

i have been really really happy with this phone ... until recently. stock ROM. not rooted. over the past couple weeks i've been having problems where the phone dialer doesn't find a name i type in. says "unknown recipient". then i have to click the people icon and manually find the person ... the contact list take FOREVER to launch. once i do this, it works from then on for some period of time. also when i go to read a text it says loading for a LONG time. seems like the android native apps (contacts, messaging, etc ...) is having some problems. not sure, but all this seems to be happening since installing the last OTA update.
A restart of the phone fixes the problem but only for a short period of time. any help would be appreciated.
Wipe phone completely. Start over. Should fix your errors

thanks for both replies ... i was afraid of getting each of those responses. it takes me hours to wipe and reset everything up. my last phone was the photon which i had rooted but i really don't want to keep trying to keep up with the OTAs. dang ... guess i have to do something
I'm rooted running meanrom4.4 the built in ota updater makes things really easy if you don't want to have to keep up with the new rom versions. You just download right on your phone like you would... An ota

The phones performance between stock and rooted MeanRom 4.4 is like night and day. HTC should be embarrassed for the way the phone runs in stock condition, it really boggles the mind given its hardware.
Anything that doesn't work with Meanrom?

Its really not too long of a process with the right tools. Backup apps like Titanium Backup, My Root Backup or this newer one im been using, App2zip. I use to be like you. Spent why too long setting things back up. Now i use App2zip for my user apps and flash right after i flash a new rom. Upon bootup, all my apps are there. Not recommend to do with System apps..hint hint.
I bought the Galaxy S3 two months after the EVO. EVO was driving me nuts. I kept the EVO anyway. Can never have too many devices, right?
Running Mean 4.4 rom now and its like night and day from the first two months with the EVO. New advancements from Zep with multitasking and all the incredible work from all the devs in the community, im enjoying the EVO now.
S3 for sale... Just kidding.
This latest update fixed google wallet but looks to have made all of the google apps buggy in the process. Hopefully they'll push an update to fix it soon, but in the meantime rebooting the phone when it acts up will help temporarily.

Yet another reason to leave well enough alone lol
+1 for mean rom, I don't think I could go back. Part of the reason I like it besides the obvious fact that the phone runs way better the ota updater is fantastic this is the first rom I have used that has had it and probably won't go back to a rom without it. I actually have an update downloading in the background now. You deffinty should hard reset and since you have to do that anyway might as well root.

I was about to start a thread for the exact same problem! I too have been hesitant to root my phone out of simple laziness... Maybe I'll shoot an email to HTC and see what they say. Definitely related to the latest OTA though.

I have had the same issue since the last OTA update, and have tried a few things with limited success. I've tried removing all contacts, and resynching, backing up and clearing the data from the messaging app, soft and hard resets.
Of everything, the soft reset seems to have cut down how often I get this bug. Interestingly, my brothers phone has about the same frequency of the issue, but neither of my parents phones have the problem.
So HTC responded and said to try rebooting into "Safe Mode" and if that doesn't work to perform a factory reset. Here's the email:
If you have backed up your information and cleared the data from Phone, Messages, Contact Storage, and Dialer Storage, but you still have this issue, I would then recommend that you test your Evo 4G LTE in safe mode. This will disable third party apps and processes from launching when the phone is powered on. You will still be able to make and receive calls, text messages, email, and use the internet.
To put your Evo 4G LTE into Safe Mode, use the following steps. Be patient with these steps, you may not get it into Safe Mode on the first attempt.
Go into settings>power and uncheck Fastboot, then power off your phone.
With the phone powered off, press the Power key on your device.
When you see the first load screen, press & hold Volume Down key until OS loads.
"Safe Mode" text will appear on the lower left of screen to advise that you are in safe mode,to get out of safe mode just restart the phone.
If you can access these apps fine in safe mode, this would indicate some kind of conflict or interference from a third party application. You would need to rule them out by uninstalling the apps until you find that the phone is working normally again.
If the issue persists in safe mode, I would then recommend that you back up your data and perform a factory reset. If you would like assistance with backing up your data, please let me know and I will walk you through this process. The reset will restore the phone to a "like new" state. All personal data such as emails, text messages, internet bookmarks, photos, videos, music, documents, settings, call history, market apps, and any contacts and calendar entries that have not been backed up to a PC or server will be erased. Data on the SD card is not affected by the reset.
To reset your Evo 4G LTE, use the following method :
***If you use Google Wallet, please perform these steps before you perform the reset***
-Open Google Wallet application
-Tap on Menu
-Tap on Settings
-Tap on Reset Google Wallet
1. With the device turned off, press and hold the Volume Down button. While continuing to hold this, press and release the Power Button.
2. When the factory reset menu appears, then release the Volume Down button.
3. Use the Volume Down button again to highlight FACTORY RESET, and then press the Power Button to select it.
I hope that these steps help you to gain access to these apps properly again, Stephen, and I hope you have a great day!

Im going to have to disagree with people and say, being stock along with all the updates have really improved my experience with sense 4. I've owned this phone since launch and really hated its performance. I eventually sold it and got a GS3 for 2 months and now I eventually want Galaxy Note 2. Anyways I sold the GS3 in a attempt to raise money for the note 2 but came across a great deal on a stock white Evo, which i now own. Let me tell you. This baby is silky smooth in stock form, much better than anything I've been flashing.

here's what HTC told me to do ... it may have made some improvement ... time will tell.

It's definitely no fun when your phone stops working as expected, and I'll be glad to help you get your phone back in working order! To best assist you I'll need to know what phone you have, but from your description it appears you have an Android powered phone. With this is mind I believe that we should try wiping the phone's cache partition. For your convenience I've attached a document that details how to perform the wipe. This does not delete any critical data from your phone like contacts, so you don't have to worry about losing any data. If this does not correct the concern please let me know, and also include the serial number for your phone so we can research the situation more deeply. Thank you for being a member of the HTC community, and I hope you have a wonderful afternoon!

It appears that clearing caches/app data doesn't help with the problem, but rebooting into safe mode (press and hold vol down during the splash screen) does fix it. I believe this means that there is a 3rd party app causing the problem. Now to start uninstalling apps till the problem fixes itself. Ugh. Considering the problem doesn't occur half the time this will be a difficult process... Anybody have any suggestions on how to quickly figure out which app is causing this aside from uninstalling them one by one?
Check for cpu hogs
It sounds like u may have a cpu hog or a poorly written app. U might be able to tell what it is by checking your battery usage. Setting ngs/battery/battery usage
Biggest usage should be screen and android system ect.
If not, there may be a some apps to check that for u.
but if it comes to it, after the factory reset, start with the necessary apps, stock plus Google apps. After that do ur widgets, wait a few hours, add a few more, and wait.
This way u can limit new processes and boil it down to a few.
Good luck
Interested to see what app you are using that's causing issues. Good luck as well.
