[Q] Dongle no longer works with ICS? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I usually use Intratech's Frankenstein firmwares so it still uses the old bootloader and I can reset the counter if I want. I thought I would upgrade to ICS now theres a final version, I read on some thread that Intratech said this LPQ ICS came with the old bootloader so there was no need for a frankenstein, but I just tried my dongle and it didn't reset counter/take away yellow triangle. I'm aware there is a Triangleaway tool now, but any way to reset the boot counter? (just out of curiousity)
I'm just a noob about this stuff! Also what exactly is a CSC? I get XEU is for UK, where I am. Do you have to have a CSC for the country where you bought your phone?

CSC is a list of network settings for different locations . Used to auto setup networks .
Best is to use CSC from area of use but not actually needed for a phone to work . Set network manually instead .
As to the ICS question sorry i have kept clear of the leaked updates .
GB rules so far for me .
jje

I think you meant "USB Jig" dongle? it doesn't reset boot counter, it resets Custom Binary Counter.. And if you're not selling your device or returning your device to samsung, i don't think its necessary to reset them anyway.
There is a pretty detailed FAQ thread for this by mattcfk, you should read those and ask questions about them there..
CSC means Country Specific Codes, it setups your device for "known" network/carrier and countries, such as setting up sms service centre etc..
and uh, the TriangleAway by chainfire thingy does what your usb jig used to do on GB roms with old boot loader.. soooo, read more here

I think I was able to use my jig with the LPQ version I dl'ed from intratech's torrent link. And I'm sorry I'm not 100% sure this was where I got the LPQ. I dl'ed one from the original thread, and then saw intratech's, so grabbed his. In the end I think I flashed the intratech one. I was not totally paying attention to which I used for the actual flash, but I know after I flashed the LPQ, and then flashed chainfire's root kernel for the LPQ I had a yellow triangle. I shut it down "jigged" it, and the triangle went away. Sorry I can't jig into download mode right now because I'm charging, but I'm 99% certain the binary counter was 0. So sorry I can't be certain the counter reset worked, and other places are reporting the jig doesn't work, and I can't be sure which bootloader is in my phone, but I think it worked for me. I would love to see something definitive on this though. Hope that helps.

Hi
Yeah I meant the USB Jig!
I downloaded mine from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
I may try Intratechs one and see if its any different. I notice he has two LPQ's. I'm guessing I have the XEO Poland one. I have a problem now that I can't send texts or make calls! I will have to go back to GB if his multi CSC one doesn't work.
I'll report back if my Jig works.

You were right downwiththebanksters, I just tried the multi CSC Intratechs LPQ and my Jig did reset binary counter/get rid of yellow triange.
Still can't send txts or make calls though. Maybe my giffgaff sim, though it worked with earlier versions of android (I always have to select O2 pay as you go instead of giffgaff as its not an option)

After loads of trouble I find that my O2 sim works for making calls and txts. So try my giffgaff again, still not working. After a long time I decided to see if there was anything online and it seems giffgaff network has been down all day from a burst water pipe or something.
I thought it was ICS or Triangleaway had messed up my calls and texts on phone, but when I flashed GB it was still the same. At least I know now!

[Q] Mobile Network Not Available - Samsung Galaxy S2

Hey guys,
This is my first post here so please be nice I will try be as informative as I can!
Last week my aunt got a Samsung Galaxy S2 as an upgrade after my recommendation. She loved the look of things and liked how she could access Youtube and Facebook but then she got locked out of her phone completely and couldn't get back in because she didn't know her Gmail account.
After a bit of research I found out that I should do 'Hard Reset' and all should be back to normal afterwards, I did so and everything looked okay.
After giving the phone back to her my aunt said she no longer wanted it and gave it to me because it was too 'complicated'. Obviously I was overjoyed as my current phone does not even compare to this beast!
I put in my Orange sim, (hers was Orange too) turned on the Wi-Fi to update all the apps not even noticing that the 3g icon wasn't on. I could see the phone had some signal so I thought everything was okay. It was only when I tried to call my dad of the phone that I realised something was wrong. It said 'Mobile Network not Available'.
I have found many threads about 'rooting' or IMEI but I don't understand what they mean as I am a newbie in all of this.
I would send the phone for repair but it does not have insurance so that's a no go. The phone came unlocked too so I don't understand why it's doing this. The sim I put in works on my old phone so I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with it.
What should I do?
Looking forward to your replies
See * HERE *
Remove your battery and your sum card.
Wait 10 seconds put them back in and reboot.
If problem still exists go to
settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks. Select your carrier network.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Thank you for your replies samgalaxys2 and dred_up, I appreciate it!
I tried doing what you said samgalaxys2 but nothing's changed, I tried doing it myself before but no luck
In reply to your questions on the other thread I can confirm that my sim works as it works on my old phone. I can also create contacts on the sim too.
I don't know what the EFS folder is but when I dial that number you said (*#06# ) I can also confirm that the IMEI is the same number shown in my settings and underneath the battery.
What should I do?
Wiska.
The fault = put your sim in the phone then not working .
First step has to be to get a new sim .
That would be followed by either a return to a service centre or via XDA a flash of new stock firmware .

Have you tried the Access Point Names in the network settings, mine changed it's self after flashing a new rom.
Hello JJEgan, I have tried various working sim cards and it doesn't make a difference, I even tried a brand new T-Mobile sim. In the 'About Phone' section I can clearly see the Sim's name but it always says Out Of Service underneath.
I have tried that too s.d.oconnor, at times it doesn't work and when it does it says something like 'Network Updated' but nothing changes.
What do you guys mean by 'Flash of new Stock Firmware' & 'Flashing new Rom'
Sorry for the amount of questions guys, I have never experienced something like this before

Hmm okay,
I followed the thread and had to do it at-least 3 times before I could do it 'correctly'
I managed to get Ice Cream Sandwich OS on the phone and although I could now use the sims internet I can't use it to call or access my voicemail.
What can I do to fix this?
If I have to download a new rom could you copy the link because I think that maybe that's where I went wrong?
I am sorry but I tried my best as it is my first time doing all of this.
I think the Rom should be an XX as the phone and myself are in England plus my network is Orange
Wiska.
You can use the Dutch firmware XEN without problems...
Also is your fone a i9100P (NFC) or standard i9100?
Or take fone into Orange or a Samsung repair centre to have it checked out.
Hmm do you recommend I Flash it again and get XEN?
Do you think they'll repair it even though it has been flashed? I've got ICSandwich on it and I don't think Orange has released it yet lol
I tried to change the APN but nothing is happening

If it was a Orange (UK) branded phone, then first download, install and run Triange_away app. This will reset the custom rom flashing counter and take away any triangle at boot up (if present).
Next you need to download and flash the BVKJ4 rom from * HERE * - it is the latest official Orange UK ROM. It will wipe the phone to factory setting and you will loose root. It may solve your problem, but if it doesn't it will put your phone back to valid warranty for the service centre.
Sorry for the late reply, the amount of work college gave us yesterday was just too much!
Thank you for the link fred_up but the links are dead
Thank you for trying to help though, I really appreciate it mate!
Anyone know what I should do?
Search for the stock rom you're after on Samfirmware.com.
Edit to add - Make a note of the rom details from Intra's thread (the one you were linked to where the links don't work), that will make searching Samfirmware easier.
Thank you MistahBungle!
I am downloading what looks to be the firmware I need right now so fingers crossed it works!
Many thanks for the help mate! I will keep you updated if it works or not
I tried the latest Orange one but that didn't do anything, I then tried using the Carphone Warehouse one and although the 3G internet stuff works I can't call or text!
This is so annoying lol, any advice?
The phone isn't locked or anything as my aunt gave it to me, what can be the problem?

had same problem , just wipe data/factory reset, and cache then make a clean install of ur rom , and request the APNs again from your carrier
at first u can just delete the APN settings of ur carrier and try to get them again from it

[Q] "Not registered on network"

Hello there,
A few weeks ago I was trying out different custom roms on my galaxy s3, and I somehow managed to **** something up and my IMEI number got changed to something like 00400001234. I kept getting "Not Regitsrred on Network" error if I tried to make calls. So I took it to a repair shop and paid £25 to get it fixed
It got fixed and the imei number went back to normal - I could make calls again!
I then did efs, nandroid and titanium backups and then flashed foxhound rom, but again I get the "not registered on network" error. So I restored the backup, but it still says the error. I tried a different backup and still it cant connect to network :crying:
What I tried to fix this:
- turning it off for a while then back on
- manually trying to connect to my network
- manually enterring APN details
- ate a bagel
- factory reset / data wipe
- I followed all the guides I could find on this site and used the search function extensively! the last thread i read was this one but the guy couldn't find a solution other than taking it to a shop
I think I have only these options:
1) try to fix it myself maybe flashing a different radio, CSC, or something (?)
2) take it back to repair shop and pay another £25
I read somewhere that the method the shop uses to 'fix' the phone means that you cant install custom roms. is this true?
As you can probably tell, I am a novice at this kinda thing and so it's very frustrating cos I cant understand how to fix this =/
Thankyou
A guess is that you flashed custom rom and either have no CSC wrong CSC or wrong modem for your network . Or EFS folder is damaged .
Possible solution restore original rom via .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1978840
Then test .
jje
so is the imei there?
yes the IMEI on the phone matches the one printed under the battery
thanks for the link. i'm trying to use kies now to fix it, but it's saying my device firmware version is not supported to update via kies. not sure what this means cos i flashed the stock rom already =/
Trying flashing the stock modem if it's not already, I too got same problem and then flashed the stock modem for my rom/country and it worked

i would like to try flashing a new modem/csc but i dunno where to find those seperate files. do you have a link to where i can download the unbranded UK one?
ive just flashed another rom with odin (UK unbranded BTU 4.0.4), and now i'm getting a different error. the phone now says 'mobile network not available' and there are no mobile networks showing when i try to search for them. i am no longer seeing the 'not registered to network' error
i'm still getting the error message in kies saying my firmware is not compatible too =/
dunno if this helps, but when i dial *#1234# it shows this information:
AP: I9300XXBLG8
CP: I9300XXLG8
CSC: I9300XABLG8
what does it all mean =S
edit: okay, i've just been down to the store where i originally bought the phone from. i had one of their sales guy snap a picture of the firmware version info screen. for comparison i've included a screenshot of my s3's info:
i.imgur.com/SQ19c17.png
my plan is to try and locate this specific firmware and flash it onto my device in hopes it will fix it =<
does anyone know where i could find this specific firmware?

the console text says it has applied CSC-code "CYO"
ive managed to find the correct firmware now, so that it matches the stock s3, but yet my problem still remains =/ once again it is giving me the 'not registered on network' error
dont know what else to try now =/
maybe the CSC code is incorrect, and changing it would fix my issue?
CSC has nothing to do, since your phone is unlocked. It depends on the network, whether GSM or UMTS.
Try this firmware for the CSC CYO:
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/190153878/49a62fc/I9300XXELLA_I9300OXXELL1_CYO.zip.html
1- Make sure to flash using Odin 3.07. Find it in the forums. To flash, you must enter the download mode. Switch off the phone, then Vol Down + Home + Power.
2- After flashing and rebooting the device, when the logo is shown, remove the battery and reinsert it.
3- Enter the recovery mode using (Vol Up + Home + Power).
4- Choose "Wipe factory settings".
5- Reboot the device.
6- Enjoy.
Being in an area with weak network coverage can cause continuous error like "Not registered on network". Therefore, after flashing, try forcing the network into GSM via "Setting -> More Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode -> GSM Only".
This shall work fine with you
well thanks for trying, but that didn't work either. i followed the steps exactly and i still get 'not registered on network' error =/
this is so frustrating

yes the phone was bought from carphone warehouse (UK) and was already unlocked out of the box
also, no i have not tried another sim
i've just uses kies to find the exact firmware i need (entered the model + serial number) and flashed it... but, still i get 'not registered on network' error, despite having full 5 bars signal
i dont know what else could cause this. the firmware is correct, imei number is correct, everything is back to stock.. so why am i still seeing this error? :crying: ive run out of ideas now! well, unless the 'custom binary counter' stops the phone working if you flash it too many times (???) i really dont know what else to try

[Q] Is my phone software unlocked(versus factory) Please helpp?

Hello,
I will have to give background info on this before anyone can help so bear with me please :.
I live in Pakistan and I bought a i9300 directly from samsung. In the beginning of the six months i owned the phone, I never rooted or put custom ROMs on it. Then unfortunately I got SDS. I gave my phone to a local repair shop (non samsung, but highly reliable, I bought the phone from there) who switched the motherboard on the phone. After I got it, I rooted it and started installing custom ROMs on it. First it was cyanogenMod, then Paranoid Android and Supernexus +AOKP and others. Everything worked fine. Then I installed Omega ROM (Samsung based ROM which changes the modem). Everything went fine, but I was unable to connect to my network (No texts, calls, data connectivity). It detected my network(Ufone) but was unable to register on it when I manually tried to. I mega-wiped my phone, cleared cache and factory reset and did everything. Alternatively, the following steps I also tried.
1)Checked if my IMEI is intact. It was. (I have EFS backups too)
2)Checked if my serial # is different. It is still the same (No need for Ariza Patch)
3)Checked if my SIM works. It does on different phones.
4)Checked my APN settings. They were fine. I even manually changed them to match the carriers
5)Changed my CSC settings (using the playstore app). Still doesnt work.
6)Checked different modems from the appropiate thread (I have tried Europe Unbranded, Middle East, Egypt and many others)
7)Restored nandroid backup of original stock 4.1.2 Sammy ROM, still not connectivity.
8)Flashed using ODIN, the stock 4.1.2 ROM for my country (Using SAM mobile). Still no connectivity.
9) Matched my RIL with my baseband (using the GetRIL app), still didnt work.
Stock Samsung 4.1.2 ROM details before OMEGA flash in which everything worked:
AP: I9300XXEMA2
CP: I9300XXELLA
CSC: I9300OJVEMA1
This has happened to me the 5th time now (Phone is currently at the repair shop) and I have sequentially tried every one of the steps I have mentioned. I called up the repair shop and they said that I can come tomorrow and pick it up, all they have left to do is "SIM UNLOCK "the phone. That confused me a lot. I will go tomorrow and ask them details as to what they meant by that. So my question is basically this:
1) Is it possible that the motherboard they put into my phone is from a software-unlocked phone not a hardware unlocked? (Is the 'unlock' on the motherboard of the phone)
2) Is there a way to find out if my phone is software or factory unlocked?
P.S. Every single time I hand in my phone, I obviously unroot it and install stock on it (regardless of the fact that it doesnt connect to the network). But every single time I get my phone back, its ALWAYS ROOTED.. I even asked the technical team guy and he had no idea what I was talking about (repairmen here dont have that much of knowledge, they tend to follow guides online, thats it). So could it be that my connectivity issue is just because its software unlocked and not hardware?
Thank you!
Anyone?

But it's not a hardware fault? I mean whatever they do, they have to root the phone to be able to do it. Any idea what settings or configuration they might have changed using root for it to connect which I haven't already tried?

hi guys i bought an samsung galaxy s II I9100 not new but still in a good status and he is runing very good when i bought it he had the an stock android 4.0.4 informations in attachement when i want to update to the 4.1.2 version he says that this is the last update for the phone so i downlaoded an 4.1.2 firmware from samfirmware i update via odin without problems but when i verify the IMEI isn't the same at the back of the phone and another thing on the back of the phone there is NFC under the camera but can't find't in options :crying:
No Help
1) I9100 = no NFC. If that phone has NFC capabilities, it's not an I9100. It will more than likely be an I9100P.
2) If the IMEI (in phone settings) has changed to '0049...' (Do not post your actual IMEI here), you might be in a bit of trouble. If the phone is an I9100P, download I9100P firmware from Samfirmware & flash that; hopefully the IMEI will come back. If the IMEI doesn't return, flash another firmware, and another and so on.
If it is an I9100 & you're merely confused about the NFC thing, download a bunch of I9100 firmwares & flash.
If after flashing a bunch of firmwares you still have the generic IMEI, try one/more of the many 'guides' on here which claim to be able to recover your IMEI without an EFS backup (no idea if any of them work or not).
If you still can't get your IMEI back, take it to a local mobile repair shop; many have equipment which can write the IMEI back to the device fairly cheaply.
Edit - Use a descriptive thread title in future - 'Help me please' is more than likely the reason you've been sitting for 18 hrs waiting for help, many people won't even look at your thread without a title which gives some idea of whatever problem you're facing/question you have.

thanks for your help what if my phone is i9100 and i have flashed an i9100p firmware what problems i'll have?
Probably none. The firmware is identical except for the NFC bits, as the I9100 doesn't have the hardware, that part of the firmware doesn't do anything. Given the rom will likely be for a completely different carrier, the modem in the rom might not be ideal for your particular carrier, and you might have connectivity issues, or you might not. But that's moot given you have the generic IMEI, you should have pretty much zero connectivity anyway (you'll be able to see the network but not use it).

Question A528B/DS - CSC Change to BTU Won't work

I have an A528B/DS with the CSC XEO, however I want it to be changed to BTU.
I've tried using SamKEY and Chimera ands both said that the phones weren't supported even though they are on the supported models list. I spoke to a member of customer service from each of them and I was told the security firmware if too advanced but they are working on a method to resolve this.
I have also used ODIN with multiple flash files but none were able to change the CSC.
I have seen these phones being CSC changed multiple times with he latest firmware on them so I am fully aware there is a way to do it, I just cannot work out how. I keep sending my phones to someone to do it but for obvious reasons they won't tell me how to do it.
I don't want to root the phone as I don't want to void the KNOX and other than that I haven't been able to find a way online to resolve it.
I also have this problem with G780G and G781, N986B and some A other series Samsung's.
If anyone can help or has any ideas on what I can do, please could you reply to this and point me in the right direction as I am at a dead end.
Any news?? I have the same phone, A528B, and want to change CSC.
