[Q] Please help - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi good day.. I have a question here, I bought my Galaxy sII in asia and i am currently in europe right now i am using samsung keys to update my phone for an official 4.0 update. We all know that ICS is released here in europe earlier taht other continents, my question is can i update my phone here eventhough i bought it in asia without having any problems with the phone itself.. Thanks and ore power!!!

No.
Updates comes from phone codes only. Asia phone updates when Asia updates.

there have been no new roms as everyone is waiting for ICS roms which are due by early to mid 2012.
Over the past few months Samsung Mobile Singapore has only provided one update which is android 2.3.3 DXKI2. Those who bought the phone in june/july it was shipped with android 2.3.3 DXKF1. Only change was the chinese menu. Here's a list for countries with official firmware version. http://www.youmobile.org/blogs/entr...-2-3-5-Countries-Release-Status-Daily-Updated
Never mind.
Stop using kies and start using Odin to install updated official firmware that you can download from intratechs official firmware thread. It's in the dev section.
Actually Odin is quicker and better at upgrading than kies anyway.
You can still keep an eye on official releases by using an app called checkfus from the market.
All the info and downloads you need are in that thread but if you need a hand sing out.
Hope this helps.

Hey guys, I am new to the S3 and Andriod as I used to be an iPhone user before. I bought a GT-i9300 from Hong Kong and brought it back to Canada and cant seem to get any software updates. I am currently sitting at build number I9300ZSALG3, just wondering if anyone could help me out doing an OTA update or via Kies or if this is the latest version. My baseband version is I9300XXLG3

Your firmware is from Taiwan..and for it the latest version is what you are currently using..however you dont need to wait for updates you can download firmware for United Kingdom the latest is I9300XXBLG8..you can download it from here..
http://samsung-updates.com/get/58/Samsung_Firmware_GT-I9300_BTU_I9300XXBLG8_Android_4_0_4.html
then flash it via odin...search these threads for the method to do so..
Hi man, Unlike iphone, offical rom is always the worst one.It usually uses more memory and have bad battery management. You can try another rom such as mike's.

Thank you! I am not too familiar with flashing with Android again because it is something new and if anything were to happen I wouldn't know how to fix it since I have been an iPhone user. Is flashing firmware any different from jailbreaking the iPhone? - in terms of being safer. Also, how can I be 100% sure that the UK version will work on my phone as well as keep my unlock.

Flashing the firmware is 100% safe if you follow the steps..it does not root your phone so it is not jailbreaking...so you will also not loose your warranty...
the firmwares are almost the same for every region, samsung being an a***le released different firmwares for different regions with different CSC....
but i am quite sure it will work on you region as you are already using Taiwan firmware in Canada...in any case download the Taiwan specific firmware also..so if anything goes wrong you can revert back...
by the way I am in India using BTU firmware..
Me too...
Along the same lines, I have an I-9300 sgs3 with South Africa firmware (XFE), i9300xxale9, but I'm using it in the United States, on AT&T, and am not able to receive updates thru either Kies or Update menu. I will NOT be traveling outside the US anytime soon. What should I load that would let me receive updates here in the States OTA?

Tmobile/Orange havent released there 4.1 update yet
Hi,
I`m having the same problem.my workmate has the same phone on the same network (orange) and hes had the jellybean update for a few days now. Im getting really miffed as i got the phone on the day it came out and he got it a few weeks after yet he has the update without a problem.
You`re doing it the hard way.
Use Odin3... easy, fast, and certain to work.
Search the forums on how to upgrade to JB using Odin3.
It has been released on EE, many of my friend already have the jellybean update.
Is there any way to get my system restore button?
Any solutions?
One use Kies two ask your phone provider .
Three join XDA Developers forum .Four try a Samsung forum .

That doesnt matter unless he wipes data/factory reset via recovery. Also to solve that you simply flash custom kernel.
@ OP
Plenty of topic on here that cover updating roms, flashing new stocks, flashing customs etc. I suggest you start some reading.
Oh ok thanks a lot guys.....

[Q] Restricted Countries JB Update

Hi Everyone,
I have a Razr xt910 which I bought from Egypt and when I try to find if I'm going to get the JB update I cannot find my phone listed so it appears that it's imported from different country (whatever, long story )
my problem is that I need to get the official update but I think my version was from those countries Motorola decided to punish them for buying their device, so any way to get it?!
P.S: I'am attaching screenshots for my device information
The version you are now is the middle east version. The official update which is released yesterday is for Verizon only, but it will also come to Europe,France and Germany soon,so you will not get the update. But you can flash the EU version via RSD Lite
