[Q] 65.1.40.XT910.PSHAsiaRetail.en.03 question - Motorola Droid RAZR

I have it rooted and installed safestrap. I rebooted to recovery by pressing menu button at startup, I wipe all data/cache/dalvik or w/e cache, enabled safe system, installed RAZR-ICS-AOKP-12.03.16-GSM-KANG-J.Y.Daddy from SD card.
But when I rebooted...Nothing happened, I still had my old stock rom. I've no idea whats going on, any help/tips/suggestions greatly appreciated, thank you

Safestrap is for CDMA, not GSM.

I thought I'd read that if you have bricked your phone that you can't boot into safe strap recovery?
I know you can boot into it normally but thought if you needed to boot into recovery if you have soft brick you can't use safe strap recovery?

lets just say we know what we are doing :/ if you arent sure then by all means use the CWM on boot. i find it annoying though =_= and if any tom **** or harry gets a hold of my phone and reboots it.
it gives them the chance of factory resetting my phone.... me friends are assholes. also i did make his phone crash after that incident using prey. till today he still thinks its possessed
and on that note if you really do brick it you can always flash it over using RSD lite. well if you have the correct rom version anyway

So is it better to use safe strap over boot strap then? How do you boot into recovery? I don't think you can boot
Into recovery using bootstrap so its kinda pointless?

No need for the hostility.
I can boot in to recovery from the GUI but not from the phone being in an off state which I would think to be very useful.
So from your post it will only work properly if I flash up to 2.3.6 or if I roll back busy box?
Some guidance would be nice instead of being an ass. People like me come to these forums to learn from people who know more like yourself.

thats what bootstrap is supposed to do. if it was cyanogen you can boot in using the power+ volume button. cwm on boot is just making sure that cwm boots up before anything else. hence if you soft brick you can restore
also all the info is already in the forum. search engine is your friend. any questions should be directed to their respective threads. as the devs who made them should be monitoring it

System Recovery Crashing!!!

I keep having issues with the system recovery. I mean the Clockwork one not the stock recovery. It will never work unless i go to the system recovery app and click recovery mode. Also sometimes when switching menus, I.E. going to the backup and restore option, the menu for the next items doesn't appear. Any way to fix this? I don't want to mess up on a flash and kill my phone.

You mean install recovery? If so, yes. Also since no one else can answer this it seems, does Eclipse support HDMI mirroring? It's a big deal for me.
If u r talking about clockwork from rom manager them u r right it wont work.. u have to use system recovery app plugged into wall charger at same time.. the recovery we use is 2.1.5.8 or something like that.. it is an older recovery.. our device dx2 is not supported on rom manager yet and may not ever be.. if this isn't what u mean im sorry.. just trying to help u. Yeah I know that. The system recovery we use is still Clockworkmod though. And yes I stay clear of rom manager. Thanks for the help on HDMI. I can't seem to get wiimotes working with this though. I can connect them but they don't work withing riptide. That's the only games I've tried them with. I can use it to interact with the phone in a limited way. Is it the key mappings?
Don't know anything about hdmi as I don't use it at all.. if you r running eclipse it could be something with the rom itself but im not sure.. hope u can find some answers to your problems though.. good luck

You're...half right about it being CWM. It's based off of CWM, but doesn't mean it is. Trust me, until this damn bootloader gets fixed, we're stuck with a "tethered" recovery, if you will.

This is something id like a definitive answer on, I've been told koush can make an untethered version and I've been told it will remain tethered until bootloader is cracked. getting into cwm recovery without using bootstrap app.

Hi every 1 I did not search and don't know if any1 has posted this but on my Droidx2 I found that u do not need the use the bootstrap app to get into cwm recovery if ur phone is off and u plugg it into AC power and when the Motorola screen comes on unplug wait for a few seconds and plug AC power back in and it will boot into cwm recovery.
hope this helps if no1 new this lol
Yes pwr off & plug in = cwr as long as recovery mode is set. Rebooting no.

u don't need to unplug when u see the moto logo
if recovery mode is set all u need to do is
power off and plug in as said above
it does this because our recovery hijacks charge only mode, its the only way we can boot into BSR at this time

Note: To clarify potential confusion... The BSR (Boot Strap Recovery) is NOT the same as CWM or CWMR (ClockWorkMod or ClockWorkModRecovery). PLEASE use the correct terms to avoid confusing people. Thank you! (Sorry, pet peeve. )
Ciao!
Okay, call me stupid here, but I thought CWM didn't work with the X2? I saw another post that explained how to do it, but it confused the living hell out of me!
What are the advantages of using CWM over BSR or am I reading something wrong here?
Thanks!
To me it (ours 2.5.1.8) is a hacked version never written to be installed by an apk. They all come from cwm. Once you are in cwr you can flash a different "cwr".zip.
Whether it successfully restores your bu ONLY Tenfar has hacked one that works for the (locked BL versions of the phones) Atrix, Photon and the Dx2 and they are all the same "cwr".zip!
Ibolski are you referring to my "wish" post?
It's CWM ported to our phones. Nothing more, nothing less. It's the same thing except we have to connect our phones to a wall charger. Otherwise, once you're in there, it's the same. Looks the same, the whole works. I have CWM on a couple devices here and there isn't any difference. Perhaps some of the options don't work for the X2 but, it's still the same thing. Can you tell I'm trying to tell you that it's the same?
Thanks for the responses. I'll stick with BSR then. It just seems people were so gung-ho about CWMR and I can't see why as there isn't a clear advantage to it over BSR.
I just had an idea. How about, instead of replacing charge mode, replace stock recovery and add an option in CWM to go into the stock recovery if needed. I can't do any of it but if a developer wants the challenge.

There is no point in using a recovery from another phone that has less options then bsr. U may be able to flash stuff like bsr but if it wont restore system there is no point in even posting it other then creating confusion when people cant nandroid back after something goes wrong. Save yourself a lot of issues people use bsr and deal with pluging it in. Its functional where the alternatives are not.

If my memory serves me correctly... which it rarely does lol... because of the locked bootloader the install fails. Stock recovery is in the bootloader and we cannot modify the bootloader so we can't install recovery. Or does install but the bootloader overrides it and brings us to stock. Something like that.. vodka is making it all foggy lol I'm pretty sure that's close though
Actually i think somewhere in the system... preinstall I think. But our locked bootloader is why it does not work and cannot work. That I remember for sure

BTW
Tenfar was one smart cookie getting cwr working w/ one apk on 3 different phones.

my post about a the the newer atrix recovery WAS in response to a MX2 Q about RECOVERY SAVING AS TARBALLS and they could not get a working recovery anyway.
Now some Mx2's can use ReRecovery manually as a work around.
Edit
I have flashed lots of foreign recoveries - no problem as I never install them. They run in the same environment created by our bsr.
But using Rom Manager to install any recovery, other than the still non-functioning dx2, will require an sbf.

[Q] Cannot Restore to Stock 2.3.6

Dear All,
I am from Hong Kong, and got my asian Razr Maxx for almost 2 weeks now, I have found that I am unable to go back to stock by using motorola's stock factory reset option. Every time I first boot after I "restored" with my device, ADW Launcher EX will be its stock launcher ( i have installed it previously), and that my black multi-touch keyboard is gone. Also, my root would remain.
It just won't go back to how i unwrap it from the plastic wrappings. I tried flashing the asian stock rom though cwm, however it will say "installation aborted" when i tried installing the rom zip from sd card.
I really want to go back to stock, anyone have any idea how I should fix this?

glad i found this thread, i am in deep doodie with my phone. i just got my phone yesterday and had it rooted within the first hour of posession.
its the droid razr maxx, ut updated soon as i got home with it to 6.12.181.XT912, then rooted it on that version using the method from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342567.
installed safestrap recovery
performed system backup before doing anything else
flashed eclipse
later realised that my battery wouldnt charge, so i tried to restore the backup of the stock rom........ and thats when everything went to hell!
tried to restore with safestrap in safe mode, no dice
took it out of safe mode, started getting restoration errors, tried to put it back into safemode, and it wont go back into safe mode,
now phone boots and stays stuck at moto logo dualcore technology screen
going to use rsd lite, but dont know what file to download for it because none of the ones provided in the stock rom section look even remotely close to what i need,
does anyone know where i can find and download 6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US
or anything i can do to fix my phone? i cant even turn the damn thing off, when i get it to shut off, it just reboots itself all over again.

Force a shut down
Power+vol up+vol down till the screen blinks. Release power button and keep holding vol keys. It'll allow u go thru fastboot mode.

I erased my cid a few weeks ago ( I clicked on the backup but... it seems it didn't backed up :/ ) changed to latest EU ICS kernel and after noticing a battery drain with the ROM, I decided to fastboot to 4.0.4 so I could get everything back to normal... Any ideas? Thanks in advance <3

2) I also face the black screen issue after flashing stock with rsd. But turn out when i flashed other rom, means, download another choice of rom but still for the region,it worked ok at last. Maybe u should try?

Did you tray another ICS OTA? I have my CID on dropbox and mail and other places, but I remember flashing to Stock ROM with RSD without CID and it boot
If you can enter into stock recovery, try wipe/format cache and factory reset. Then fastboot with rsd.
Then root your phone, but remember after it reboots (during root) to reboot using BPtool.
Then you can retore your CID. If you lose it, you can boot only using bptool or BMM wich can handle the missing CID
Try flashing a GB ROM with RSD Lite, then booting BP Tools.
Its my only suggestion.
But as long i know...if you lost your cid, you're screwed up bro.
I never had to worry about CID (i have a unlocked bootloader) but i still have a backup of it on my computer, googledrive, email and dropbox

I don't think so.
Can you able to enter custom recovery. If yes try nandroid backup.
Only few roms like peetrs hybrid are available For locked bootloader .
You flashed a rom for unlocked bootloader on locked phone. So the result is softbrick.

Thanks for the assistance. I was able to flash some of the .sbf file. It failed during the "jump". However, it did boot up. Now I need to root. Do I use a rooting method for the Electrify, or can I use the photon torpedo method?
Thanks again for the help!!!
OK. I'm rooted, and I have Rom Manager installed. I can't boot to CWM recovery. I get the triangle! . Will I not be able to boot to CWM recovery?
Thank you! Thank you!!

New issue now. I have no audio on calls. The other party can hear me, I can't hear them. Speaker phone works good. From what I've seen, this is a software issue. Would you happen to have a fix for this?
Never mind. Broken speaker wires. Got it disconnected from the board, just have to order a new one.
