Sony Entertainment Network-Impressed - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi, Tested my phone over the week end and very impressed. I rented and downloaded Rise of Planet of the Apes from Sony Entertainment Network via 02 U.K. to the phone and played back on my Sony Bravia TV linked to phone with supplied HDMI cable, quality was fantastic, like watching Blue Ray disc. Could even work the phone from my Bravia TV remote.

Awesome! Now only if Sony will hurry up and bring more PSN games to the network.

How do I show Netflix on tv?

Im running royal ginger which comes with the netflix app and im wondering if there is a way to view what i have on the tv. Pretty much like an HDMI cable without the HDMI port on the phone. Is there an adapter or something? I know there is a cable which goes into the headphone jack but i dont know if it will be able to play the movies on the big screen

I really don't mean to sound like a smartass, but your best bet for Netflix on a TV is a videogame system or blu-ray player that streams Netflix. I just don't think the mobile app is cut out for displaying on another screen. It barely manages to do it on the phone's.

Have you tried dlna, many newer tvs/ps3/xbox360 support it.
Why not just stream it through your laptop via and HDMI cable? That's what I do, works perfect. Or of course you can do what the guy two posts above me said. I just don't think Netflix on our phone is very practical anyways. Eats battery like crazy and heats up the phone when played too long.

Question: Have you ever seen any spec list for our phone mention HDMI out?
the DLNA will only stream content via wifi that is on our SDCard, you cannot stream apps or streaming media.

i know that the MT4G does not have HDMI, but what I am asking is if there is a way to output the screen onto the tv in a similar fashion as an HDMI. On amazon there is a cable that is designed for this using a 3.5mm headphone jack and it has the red/white/yellow plugs. My tv does not have DLNA and I do not own a blu ray player or gaming device. However I was planning on going to movie trading company or a pawn shop or something to see if there is one available. Which are the best blu ray players? if i cant find one for cheap then I will be buying the cable since it is only $9
That cable will not work with this phone. Our 3.5mm audio jack is for AUDIO only, there is no video coming out of that jack.
The 3.5mm to rca is for (mostly older, like more then 2 years) expandable mobile bluray/dvd players. I know because I have one of these mobile devices.
A standard 3.5mm jack is capable of doing three things, but most of them are only capable of 2 (stereo audio), and a few can only do one (mono audio). In our case, 2 channels are for left and right audio and 1 channel is used for mic input.
If you connect this cable to your television, you will most likely be connecting a port on your phone used for an unpowered microphone to a port on your television waiting to accept a standard def signal.
I wouldn't be surprised if most televisions put out a little tiny bit of power over that port just so it can accept the expected analog signal. My assumption is based on taking the unhooked cable and running your finger over it and watching static on the tv. You shouldn't be surprised if you destroy your phone, or at least the microphone input when you use that cable.
Also when shopping for electronics, using the criteria of "best and cheap" is like saying "yeah, man I totally hooked up with this super hot 400 lb chick"
If you want best, get a samsung or sony or phillips. If you want cheap, go insignia or dynex. If you want not so bad, and somewhat cheaper, look at a visio.
Remember, when dealing with electronics, just because it fits doesn't mean you should stick it in the hole. This might also be good advice when dealing with fat chicks.

You cannot DLNA stream NetFlix with our phones. It's [as of right now] impossible. Netlfix doesn't support it, and Twonky doesn't support it. Nor do we have any output of video, the USB jack and the headphone jack do not support HDMI or RCA output as of right now.
If you are wanting a cheap way to watch netflix you can either get a Roku Box, for like 75-80 USD or you can buy a ~125.00 USD blue ray player.

I have a friend with a Visio Blu-Ray player, it's not horrible, but it's not top notch either. I can tell a difference between my PS3 and his Visio. IT would also depend on the quality of the TV the [OP] is dealing with. If it's a 720p or 480p TV the brand will not matter that much. a 60Mhz 1080i or 1080p LCD/Plasma screen possibly. If they have a 1080p 120Mhz + or LED TV you are exactly right.

The tv I have is an AOC tv that I found at my grandfathers house. Its got 1 HDMI port and its an HD flatscreen but by looking at it it seems to be either low/mid-range quality or one of the first HD tvs. Im not a tv expert but those are the assumtions I think i can make. I dont want a high-end blu ray player because it will be traveling between dorm/home fairly often but I don't want a crappy one either. Thats why I was going to go buy a used one and hopefully get a quality machine for a low price

HDMI Lag

Does anyone or has anyone ever used the HDMI cable with their X2 and noticed lag when playing a movie on a tv? I'm trying to watch a 720p HD movie and its lagging on my LCD tv but looks just fine on the phone. I bought the cable with the phone when it first came out and honestly this is the first time i've actually used it.
I got cable from Amazon though it would
be cool to see on big screen.
I connected it once to my 23" LG LED monitor.
The thrill was short lived no lag, picture not
that Impressive. Now I have a $10 shoelace lol.
like video lagging behind the audio? jittery video? wtf do you mean by "lag"?
let's say you run HDMI from the phone to the TV and then plug audio from the headphone jack into a stereo receiver, your audio will be getting to your ears anywhere from 55ms to 500ms before the video hits the screen, that's kinda the nature of all these newfangled flatpanel HDTVs (especially LCDs) there is an inherent delay between the video signal going into the TV vs. when it is actually displayed on the panel.
here's a good test for your TV's "lag" get one of those cheap battery operated atari games (the ones built into a joystick w/ the yellow red and white cables coming out) hook that up to your TV, you'll IMMEDIATELY notice the amount of latency present in your TV.
I think this is probably one case where the phone is not the problem, it's your TV. you can go into the TV's setup menu and look for a "game mode" which basically bypasses extra picture features and filters that for the most part make your picture look like crap.
but, you really need to define what you mean by "lag" 'cause I could be way off in left field here, but mine looks just fine on my panasonic plasma or my samsung LCD monitor when I use an HDMI to DVI adapter, and I've plugged it into all kinds of other displays (I use it as an HDMI signal generator almost everyday at work) granted I rarely watch video on it using the other displays (usually test patterns for projector alignment and calibrating video walls) but whenever I'm in a hotel with a TV that has HDMI, I use it, and it works just as good as my computer does. (but I do always set the TV up properly)
oh, and if you have any of that 120hz/240hz smoothmotion garbage enabled on your TV, turn that crap off.
I have the same problem!
But I have got another mobile i9105p, I know isn't the correct site, but, when I plug my MHL to the TV, the image shows a bit of DELAY, and when I run an application, is more like 500ms to 600ms...
I don't know if the problem is the mobile Broadcom Video core IV, or the MHL adaptar I bought from china.
Greetings.

Android Market Movies and HDMI out Issues! Help

So I just rented a movie over the android market on my Prime. Trying to stream it to my TV via the HDMI cable but I get audio with NO video.......
Anyone have a fix for this?
The cable has worked to stream youtube and everything else flawlessly this is my first issues. Is there a problem with the android market?
maybe the hdmi connection doesn't use hdcp?
i haven't tried anything from the market video wise yet through hdmi though, so i can't help there.
Its weird because it works to preview the video but not to play it once you purchase.....very lame

other videos work though? i have to admit, i haven't even taken the twist ties of my hdmi cable yet, haven't needed to plug into a tv since i got it, but maybe i'll try it out tonight and see.
it really does sound like some drm/hdcp type issue though, gotta love the film and music industry to make it harder to consume contect you actully pay for vs the alternative.
Anyone else try this yet? I think ill call Google see if they have an answer

Having the same issue here, anyone able to get this working yet?
My guess is that movie playback over HDMI output is disabled (probably because it doesn't support HDCP output protection to prevent piracy).
Nothing like draconian DRM requirements to ruin a persons day.

Luckily the pirated shows I have work over HDMI!
The Prime does have HDCP, unlike my Droid X2. I've been capturing game video on both devices (www.pixel-freak.com) and have to use FRAPS to grab the Prime screens due to the HDCP piece. DX2 does not have HDCP and I am able to grab whatever I want through it. I've even tested Netflix which captures on my DX2 without the need for HDCP aversion (not that I'm pirating movies, I just tested it and it worked).
My guess with this issue is something is wrong with the HDCP/Google vids because it's only there to authenticate for this exact reason. I bet there's a glitch where it's recognizing it as capturing rather than simple displaying.
Have you tried streaming Netflix with the same setup? Theoretically it should be the same result, but I bet it won't be. I bet it will work and there is something wrong with the HDCP or Google Vids.
Same thing here.
I have the Asus Transformer Prime and rented a movie from the Android market. I bought a 30 dollar gold plated Micro HDMI cable. Plugged it into the tablet and right into HDMI 1 on my Vizio HDTV.
Everything came up! Desktops, apps, the web, youtube videos, even video I shot using the tablet. All played flawlessly.
But that movie I rented from Android market is a big no show on the big screen. I get only audio and no video.
I'm contacting the Android market and politely asking for a refund. I was hoping that I could have the option of watching on the tablet OR the HDTV.
It is disappointing.
However, I may give Netflix a go. Has anyone tried Netflix via an HDMI cable?

The movies are cheaper on the market because they are designed to be played on the small screen. Due to copyrighted it is not designed to be streamed over to your hdtv. IF I remember correctly Netflix is the same.
Fyi if your rooted the videos won't even play at all... at least that's what I found out on my DX. I certainly won't be buying movies from the market again. I asked Google for a refund and got it the next day.
Best of luck

people on the forum here have reported that rooting doesn't affect google videos on the prime
Streaming Netflix through HDMI does work. The playback of Android Market rented movies through the Transformer Prime to a TV does not work. I do suspect that this is Google limitation in order to offer movies cheaper.
It forces me to put my laptop to my TV and play the movie.
FYI. I also have an Apple iPad 2 and it allows for iTunes rented movies to be played to TV via HDMI and a their propriety HDMI adapter.
This is a disappointment that Google is seeming to limit this on their portable devices. I'd like to hear an official word though.

Here is Google's help message for watching movies on your HDTV:
Watching on your HDTV
To watch movies rented on Android Market on your HDTV, you'll need:
an HDTV that supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP)—check your tv manufacturer's website to see if your HDTV is HDCP compliant
a Micro-HDMI to HDMI cable or an MHL adapter and HDMI cable, depending on your device
Once you connect your device to your HDTV, the screen of your device should be mirrored on your HDTV (both display the same content), with the audio playing on your HDTV. If the video plays without audio on your HDTV, you may need to change the input in your HDTV's audio settings.

Well, allegedly my Sony 40EX503 is HDCP compliant (though I couldn't find anything about this on Sony's website), but I cannot get Google Play movies to work. Any other videos - from a file or YouTube - work fine. I don't know whether this is due to some technical issue or Google say one thing on the help website, and do another in Play.

It has to be a technical issue because if you watch it through your pc through the same exact 1080p monitor that won't work for the prime it works fine from the PC, same HDMI cable and everything.
I imagine the MPAA agreement would be the same for watching on a pc as it is for watching through the Prime to a big screen, both 1080p just one is bigger.

100 percent not true did it today
Use OTA rootkeeper to play the videos on the prime if your prime is rooted. I've tried this on my Prime and E4GT and works like a charm.
My tv is not HDCP compliant (Olevia 537H) but during the Xmas holiday I was able to play A Christmas Carol streamed through my E4GT with an MHL adapter. I tried Inglorious Bastards last night through the prime to hdtv and it would not play - I was extremely disappointed. I will be asking for my money back.

[Q] Allshare issue

I can get my samsung 58inch plasma to connect to my gs3, but how do you go about playing a game on your gs3 and see it on the tv. Or do you have to have the dongle to do that
If you're looking to pair up a brand new GS III with a bigger screen, but you're not yet part of the Smart TV generation, then this little accessory could get you out of a fix. It's palm-sized with a single blue LED light indicating a connection, but honestly you don't ever need to look at it: it doesn't need line-of-sight to your handset because it uses a wireless protocol called WiFi Display, which means you can happily leave it dangling out of the way behind your TV. The unit has two cables: one for power and the other for the HDMI connection to your TV, which can transmit up to 1080p video and audio. As you'll see in the hands-on video after the break, it works for direct mirroring, so you can watch movies, play games or reel off holiday slideshows. But it also has a more enterprise-focused feature, in the form of a slideshow function in cahoots with the Polaris Office app, which means you can use your GS III as a controller for a presentation. It's a simple idea, but it all seemed to work smoothly and we can imagine it coming in pretty handy.

Well the allshare dongle is handy when it works, untill now I tried it with some rooted rom's but was not able to get it up and running.
From the forum posts I read that you probably need a stock rom like this to get the allshare up and running with the dongle.
But if anybody knows a better solution then a stock rom I'm willing to try!
regards,
TreMain
i will be buying the wireless dongle tomorrow.....im on MiUi i hope it works.
i want to surf and game on my super big new TV as well. so the 89 for the dongle will be worth it since it will probably work on my next phone as well.

Sony IM10 Miracast adapter: a desaster

:crying:
I received my Sony IM10 Miracast-adapter yesterday.
Unpacked it and connected it to my Samsung UE TV: Samsung switched on by itself showing the IM10 start screen ..........
So far, so good, I was happy ..............
Connection to my ZU and Z1 via NFC worked flawless (on first connection You just have to verify by pressing the button on the IM10). Works also nicely with the NFC - tag provided together with the IM10. Connecting the devices takes about 15 seconds.
So far, so good, I was VERY happy .................
And then came the disappoinments (setup: ZU/Z1 2m away from each other and 10 cm: both the same):
1. Base lag: 0,5 - 1 seconds
2. Sliding through the screens results in highly pixelated respresentations on TV-screen
3. Writing emails and watching static webpages (Chrome Browser) has just lag, scrolling longer webpages results in pixelated and sometimes frozen representations on TV-screen
4. Music streaming: is IMPOSSIBLE due to crackling and "swallowed" passages
5. Video streaming (Youtube, vids taken with ZU- and Z1-cam) results in freezes every 60-120 seconds, at faster movements in the vid pixelation is beyond recognition on the TV-screen, sound is "swallowed" for 5-10 seconds (and I was just watching a stand-up comedy vid on Youtube where almost NOTHING moves). Twice connection fully dropped and had to be reestablished via NFC.
6. Photos: quality is desastrous: I compared the same photo on Picasa once from the Samsung Smart-Hub Picasa App and streamed from ZU/Z1 Picasa-App: the quality via IM10 reminded me of the "good old" 640x480 px-days. Same with the original photos taken with ZU or Z1.
Conclusion.
IF IM10 would cost 10-15€ the money would be wasted anyway, but it wouldn´t hurt. 99.- € is robbery for such a non-quality, not even providing basic flawless function as promised.
IM10: a complete desaster .................

well that sucks! Was looking into this. Thanks for the heads up. Have you plugged it into your PC, and done an update?? via PCC?
No update available for IM10 so far worldwide (searched all Sony-Support-Websites) ......................
No OTA-Update available to 4.3 so far for ZU/Z1 in GER/AUT
Thanks for the information, as I was going to purchase too. Is the device firmware upgradeable? As at least sony is updating the Qx10 and other devices after they rushed them to market, with basic functions missing. So perhaps they will update too. Will hold of purchasing thanks to your.findings. It's a pity Sony take so long to release and then then don't have the basics! Hope for you they do update!

Netgear ptv3000
Sorry if I'm off topic here.
I was looking to get a Sony IM10 if it would provide a service beyond that of the NETGEAR PTV3000, but it seems worse as described here..
I have a NETGEAR PTV3000 and use it with an XPERIA M (C1905) which has an Adreno 305 GPU.
PTV3000 Firmware: v2.4.26 (latest as of 19/01/2014)
XPERIA M has a 480x854 pixel 4" screen (FWVGA).
Phone has good 5GHz WiFi signal with PTV3000 box not more than four metres away.
I use a Logitech USB K800 keyboard and M950 mouse.
I am testing with a DELL U2410 24" Full-HD IPS monitor, but have also used a Sony Bravia 40" HDTV (Sans Full-HD)
Images do look better on the Sony Bravia 40" HDTV screen compared to the Full-HD WUXGA (1920x1200) monitor resolution.
I have a 720p mp4 video with 2ch audio, we use to test Android phone builds and it can be seen to be very slightly 'choppy', however the audio track is maintained through the video. The image is still watchable, but you perceive it to be ever so slightly unnatural.
Watched another video with following format:
Video: MKV H.264 25fps 720x576(HW acc)
Audio: AC3 (44.1KHz) 6 ch
The video was watchable, but there was a very sight frame drop, which is noticeable throughtout the video.
Streamed some .flac encoded music at 1.4Mbps using Neutron Music Player from my NAS
Using Sennheiser headphones plugged into my DELL monitor 3.5mm output port, music sounds very good
No skip, loss of sound, breakup or anything.
If I edit a OfficeSuite Pro MSword document, there is a noticeable lag in typing, but it's not a problem with a keyboard.
Mouse pointer action doesn't feel very natural and speeding it up and/or slowing it down didn't find a natural sweet spot.
Mouse is still quite usable, but not quite natural with pointer motion.
On a 24" IPS Full-HD monitor, pictures and images are viewable, with quality maintained for large images and upscaled for low quality images.
The screen icons look like someone draw them in with a child's colouring in crayon.
I am not sure if this is a FWVGA screen being upscaled to a WUXGA (1920x1200) monitor resolution, or if it's the PTV3000 downgrading the image, I would suggest is the monitor upscaling low res images in the case of Android screen icons.
"swishing" through screens was not a problem and no pixelation or artifacts during transition.
Youtube videos are quite watchable, but some seem to have a lag.
On my PC the same videos had the same lag as my XPERIA M.
So one may have to be careful as to how much lag is introduced by the Internet and not Miracast
No freezes or audio stop/start noted over an hour of testing different scenarios with the NETGERA PTV3000.
So in summary I would suggest the NETGEAR PTV3000 has a slight edge over the Sony IM10 as described by @troed on an XPERIA M
The one area that the NETGEAR PTV3000 does appear to preform considerably better as described here, is streaming audio.

I'm confused ... what really is the difference between all these transmission mode?
- Chromecast (I owns and I can not do "mirroring" with ultra Xperia Z) but the nexus 5 can do it, so to see ...
- Miracast (with SonyIM10 or Netgear PTV3000)
what is the best mode of transmission? most fluid, the most reactive?
thank you

- Miracast (with SonyIM10 or Netgear PTV3000)
what is the best mode of transmission? most fluid, the most reactive?
thank you

Miracast is just mirroring screen of your phone\tablet\notebook. What you see on phone, you will see on display.
Chromecast is transfer data like a YouTube video direct to Chromecast, which is decode it. But you cant mirror full screen of phone, from PC you can only mirror one tab of Google Chrome (and it will be laggy).
Sony IM10 new update ??
Hello, owners of Sony IM10 have they had the updates? the mirror mode is always disastrous after a few months on the market?
Thanks you, have a good day
IM 10 is good for TV and movie mirroring
Hi
I also have IM10 and I watch TV broadcast from my Sony Xperia Z1 mobile phone mirrored to my Panasonic TV, using Sony IM10. Sony IM10 uses your WIFI to broadcast, and the quality and speed of your WIFI network at home will therefore impact on how well IM10 performs in your home.
I also had pixellation in the beginning. Then I upgraded my wireless router to support the fastes wireless speed with 5Ghz. band. Now there is no pixellation. Movies playes smoothly as it if where directly from a BD-player or TV. Therefore, it seems you have not fast enought WIFI equipment. Also be sure that your mobile phone is connected to the 5Ghz band, and not to the 2,4Ghz band, which is much slower.
For music playoff I would recommend Sony BM10, which connects your phone to the BM10 device by using bluetooth, whereas th IM10 device use your WIFI network in addition the bluetooth.
Hope this helps. I have no problems using Sony IM10 for watching movies or BM10 for music playoff.
