[Q] SGS2 Stock Firmware Phones4U - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a friend who bought his SGS2 from Phones4U (UK).
He has updated it via ODIN to an unofficial firmware version but didn't bother checking what factory version of firmware was originally on the phone.
And now, yep, you guessed it he wants to revert back to factory so that Kies recognises his phone and will update through the "official route".
Does anybody know what version of firmware from the samfirmware site is the correct one for phones4u users here in the UK?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Luke.

As this is my first post I can't link an image from my KIES.
Not sure if this is what you are really after but here goes.
PDA:KIA4/PHONE:KI1/CSC:KH2 (XEU)

Thanks for that info. Looks like he may need to download one of the XEU firmware versions...
Will get him to give it a go and report back.
Thanks again!

Yep but it doesn't state which firmware represents Phones4U which is the problem as my mate didn't bother taking note of the factory firmware version that originally came with his device. Judging by the previous posters details on his phone (purchased from P4U) he needs an XEU (Europe) version so he's going to give one of the three European versions on there a go later.

Probably not a bad move. Once he flashes a stock ROM, he can update through Kies.
It could only be a problem if (big unlikely if) something goes wrong with the phone and he has to send it in for service, and then if the service people check the records (which is also not likely, if there's an official version of firmware and "custom counts" = 0).

Don't you need to be correct in the ROM selection for this to work though? I.e. if you put the wrong stock ROM on, Kies will recognise your device but will tell you that it does not support the version on your device (something along those lines).

[Q] Samsung GT-i9100 Generic Firmware

Hello, I'm a nOOb. Please be patient and understanding towards me.
My Kernel version is:
2.6.35.7-I9100XWK14-CL575468
[email protected] #2
Please can anyone tell me if that is generic firmware or branded?
The reason I ask is because I purchased the handset from a business seller on eBay who has assured me that the handset is unlocked with Samsung generic firmware.
I want to make sure so that I am able to update the software to ICS this month.
Thank you.
Call *#1234# and tell us what phone, pda, you have.

Looks like you have a Car Phone Warehouse CPW csc on there.
Don't know what is included with a CPW phone but the branding/bloatware is usually in the csc.

Their is no such animal as generic firmware .
Branded = providers branding and other stuff.
Unlocked = not locked to a network .
As said thats CPW firmware .
It can be replaced by stock Samsung firmware for your region .
Providing Kies recognises the phone for updates you should get the ICS release when CPW update .
Connect the phone to Kies and see what it says .
jje
It means it's a Car Phone Warehouse branded phone as far as I can tell from all the way over here.
If you are interested in flashing generic then I recommend XWKK5 from intratechs official firmware thread. Flash via Odin. All instructions are in his thread.

There is no such thing as generic firmware. What you are talking about is the standard unlocked model firmware.
Firstly check if your phone is network unlocked (search up the code to type in) and then use odin to flash back to 2.3.3 which you can download off SamMobile, if you want to know the exact version, ask me and I can find out as I already have the ROM (remember to do a factory wipe afterwards). Then once you flash that, plug your phone into kies and update to the latest and you'll be able to get ICS when it's released. Job done!

1st off kies is rubbish. Get used to Odin if you are thinking of flashing.
By generic I take it as no Telco added bloatware.
You can use an app called checkfus to check what is the latest for your Telco/carrier regardless of where you bought the phone or what firmware is installed. Then from the link I gave you download and flash if desired.
Good luck with whatever way you go with it.

Sorry missed your post.
I did exactly the same thing only a few weeks back.
I found I could still download from one of intratechs links just not the megaupload one.
As said above you can get it through checkfus. I used my jig too just incase Optus tried to refuse me.
If you get stuck I can try and upload my copy and provide a link for you.

Edit: checkfus is CHECK Firmware Update Server. There is an app on the market to check and a web site to access the downloader which is used on your pc.
Been trying to upload kk2 for Optus but am having problems.
Might be quicker for you to follow this link and download it from them.

I would be interested in cross-flashing to a different firmware too since I ordered my Lumia 920 here in Germany and so it is very likely to come with that annoying EU imposed volume cap in place.
I would really love to put some non-EU firmware on my phone to get rid of that stupid cap ...
So any information about flashing to a different varian/firmware would be highly appreciated
thx

Thank you very much for this..
Im now considering buying a cyan sim free from best buy and importing it into the UK as it looks like it might be possible to get the device unlocked based on what I have seen posted elsewhere
Does it mean that I can buy t-mob and use it everywhere I need with wcdma or gsm?

You can't see the volume cap you can only hear it and to notice it you would need a non-capped device to compare their maximum volumes.
Unfortunately I'm still waiting for my Lumia 920 so I can't deff say if it's affected but for all the HTC Windows Mobile Phones I had so far the full volume setting wasn't nearly as loud with an EU based ROM as it was with a non-EU ROM.
As long as you only listen to "professionally recorded" / purchased music it's not a problem because with this even the EU-capped maximum volume is loud enough (unless you want to kill your ears of course).
But when you have non-professional live bootlegs from concerts you can't really listen to them with an EU-capped phone - at least not when you're in a noisy environment like out on the street.
Haven't figured out how i'm going to use it or get my lumia 920 unlocked yet but i'm seeing errors on 1232.2110.1244.3011 using EE firmware for white phone, DC_template_development_v4.bin causes a big .net exception
prd_signed.ffu dies at about 14% everytime you download with a webclient error, could be just nokia resetting the connection

Firmware download
Hi all
I have the White 920 EE UK variant on order with a delivery date of 8th to 14th November!
The only file I had trouble downloading was the DC_template_development_v4.bin file, which has been posted to this forum.
All the other files downloaded OK.
I noticed that this is the second version of the firmware for the variant that I have ordered, so perhaps this is why there has been some delays on shipping - because of a last minute software fix.
God bless

Hi below is quoted from another forum.
Download & install Nokia Care suite
Download DC_template_development_v4.bin and place in the "C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages\Products\rm-821" directory (or wherever your care suite set itself up for)
Install "WinUSB Drivers<architecture>.msi" from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Drivers" (assumes x64 PC)
Run Nokia Care suite then run Product Support Tools
Connect the phone and let it be detected
Boot the phone into testing mode
Open device manager & find all the unidentified devices (check by unplugging and re-conecting the phone) there were about 8 for me.
Right click on each one and update the driver manually, show all hardware and select "Nokia phone"
From Tools, Firmware Downloads search for "059R075" and download files
When downloaded open "RM821_059R075_1232.2110.1244.3_035.vpl" from the packages folder
Edit line 12 (<ProductCode>059R075</ProductCode>) with the code for the EE firmware (059R1W4) so the line reads: "<ProductCode>059R1W4</ProductCode>"
Turn the phone off and then on while holding the up arrow. You should get to the Nokia boot-loading screen (Nokia logo with a cog)
Then choose "programming, Recovery" from the product support tool
Choose the downloaded image & click Start.
If you get a warning about being unable to connect to the phone do what it says and unplug the phone & power it off (hold both volume buttons and power for 5 seconds) then plug it back in.
Keep your fingers crossed for 5 minutes...

Do these work on the ICS I read they only work for gingerbread ?
would sim unlocking have any effect updating via kies again when Jelly bean gets released ?
Thank you
I was able to get the phone unlocked using the following app.
See the following Link and download the .apk file and install it on your device. But make sure you have rooted phone.

After you install it then you run it and there is a small gray bar at the bottom you just press that phone unlocked and you restart the device. Everything works fine. It worked for me I hope it works for you as well. Even if u have tried the same app before i suggest you still try the one on that link.

I was able to get the phone unlocked using the following app.
See the following Link and download the .apk file and install it on your device. But make sure you have rooted phone.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34187077&postcount=685
After you install it then you run it and there is a small gray bar at the bottom you just press that phone unlocked and you restart the device. Everything works fine. It worked for me I hope it works for you as well. Even if u have tried the same app before i suggest you still try the one on that link.

Unlocking has got nothing to do with updates, firmware does.
If kies sees you're rooted, might play hardball with your device.
Why people keep updating via kies? What if power goes off?
And who waits for branded updates to roll out????????????
I'm kidding, it's your right to do so.

It went out like 2 week ago, were you sleeping?

my i9300 can't be flashed!

Hi, I'm trying to flash my samsung with the new android 4.3 but it keeps
Go back to the original firmware no matter what firmware I flash it with
I've tried 4.0.1 official firmware (which was originally on it)
And the new 4.3
And that happened after I took it to samsung services to solve a problem happened in it
And they flashed it with the EGY firmware
Does anyone know why it keeps going back to that firmware?
And by the way I could root it normally and used it for about 2 weeks
Thank you very much for your help
Sales code : EGY
Bootloader version: I9300XXEMD3
Baseband version: I9300XXEMA5
PDA version : I9300XXEMD3
CSC version : I9300JVEMC1
thank you in advance
How and what are you flashing .

Flashing the official firmware I9300XXELL5_I9300OJVELL2_KSA android 4.3
And this supposed to be the official one for my phone
flashing it by Odin3 v3.09
If it reverts to original then either flashed file is faulty user is not following the instructions or phone is damaged .

Mmmm, flashed file is faulty no way because I've tried a couple of files
The user is not following instructions no I'm following it
The phone is damaged how it could be?? Like what is the damage?? Because I got the phone recently from samsung services after i had a problem with the imei and the phone works great
Maybe the Rom is not flashing properly. Phone should be "USB Debugging" enabled. Then please make sure you are selecting the md5 file in PDA section of Odin and also make sure that the phone is connected in Download mode (Power+Home+Vol Down - and then press Vol UP from the screen). It will show a blue color in COM section.

About odin, yes you can flash the firmware and your phone will work normally. Rooted does not matter for odin.
But if you are rooted then OTA update will not happen because Samsung will detect that you modified (rooted) the software.

Yes, your phone is ok. Maybe there was some confusion before about why firmware was not flashing. But it was same firmware so nothing wrong with your phone.

SGP561 Bootloop after upgrade, can't get into TWRP

I did the flashtool route of upgrading to 5.1.1 as I have in the past using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/4-4-4-creating-rooted-update-package-t2933155
It goes through optimizing apps, then reboots, and repeats this process. I can get into the regular recovery menu with the options to reboots and factory reset by holding volume down, but can't seem to get into TWRP from ZXDualRecovery so I can restore the backup that I made.
Any help would be appreciated. Just want my tablet back up and running.
Where did u find 5.1.1 for spg561? Sorry for not having an answer

Care to link me?I can't find it anywhere. My tablet won't pull it and the Verizon update software says it's up to date.
May be best to wait. That update borked my tablet, but Xperifirm is software that you use to download it.
I've used xperitool, tried to ota, used verizon/Sony upgrade tool, got the same email from Sony, and Googled the hell out of this with no results. I'm convinced there is no 5.1.1 update for this tablet and it was confused with the 5.0.2 update going from verizon internal testing to official ota. The z3 phone and this tablet shared the build name. I don't believe it. With that in mind I think you flashed phone firmware and that's why you are bootlooping.

No it's there. Spent some time with the tablet today, got it back up and running, and it's on 5.1.1.

Xperifirm finally showed it on my end. Fails flashing the last part. Tablet boots to a screen that says software update failed. Any suggestions?

OK if your using flashtool to to update then it's likely you are overwriting the custom recovery with the stock one from the ftf so you should flash twrp again after flashing a ota then I would recommend flashing a prerooted firmware from the general section

Did this file end up working for you? I was on the 5.1.1 and then rooted and later ended up bricking my tablet...the only ftf file I can find is the 5.0.2 internal version and the 4.4.4 kit kat. I've tried making ftf files but whatever I get off xperifirm never shows in the available files box when I'm trying to decrypt. Do you by chance have a stock official 5.1.1 ftf file that is ready to flash? I'm going insane here lol I wish I could make my own files
Yes, and for the user above your post that I shared it for.
Anyone get the bootloader unlocked on the sgp561?
Sent from my SGP561 using XDA-Developers mobile app
We still need to make our own flashable.zip and then we can use the ftf above?
