Prime & "new" iPad - impartial comparison - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I personally have and love my Prime, my dad has always been an iPad user. He bought the newest on launch day, and I spent a bit of time comparing them. The iPad is a great device, but not for everyone. Both are smooth, both work, both have great screens. But, the iPad is...extremely basic in its layout. No widgets, no customization past wallpapers. The Prime has tons of customizability, of course. Apps are another story. Sure, the iPad has great app support, aside from every app not specifically designed looking horribly streched. Realistically though, most apps do have a nice iPad version. The Prime does a great job upscaling apps without a tablet version - that said, the Play Store doesn't have quite as big a selection, even though nearly everything you can think of is present. On the subject of stores, if you don't plan on spending money consistently on apps, the Prime is the best choice. Take for example, iGun Zombie, a game on both the Play and App Stores. Both are exactly the same, though while the App Store sells it for $.99, it is free and ad-supported on the Play Store. This is something to keep in mind if you aren't willing to pay for every app.
As for build quality, both are great. The new iPad is just a bit thicker and heavier. Both screens are great. With the iPad, the "retina" display (which is actually just a term they use for the resolution, it's not special display technology, just Samsung packing in extra pixels) is very nice, but not such a big improvement from the Prime. Both compete well. The cameras are both very good, but obviously not as handy as a more compact shooter. Touch response is very good altogether. Sound quality is acceptable, both took the one-speaker approach - and it shows. Both feel alright in the hand, cases help though.
The most important thing in the end, is just the experience. If you enjoy customizability, the Prime is for you. If you like smooth, straight-forward and easy to use software, the new iPad is a great choice. Preference, preference, preference! Anyone who stumbles across this, stop researching and go to Best Buy. Play with both. Whatever feels nicer to you is the winner.
I'm not going to bother comparing accessories past this, because that has little to do with the devices' performance and experience as tabs. If you are a case-whore, the iPad always wins. For functionality, the Prime's keyboard is a wonder.

I just did a similar thread on this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1558951
I have never owned an Ipad and was walking through walmart yesterday and saw they had the new ones, which surprised me. It was the last one only 16GB so I figured I would at least give it a try. If I don't like it I will take it back, so far the screen is nice but for what I do it doesn't look that much nicer than the Primes screen just my opinion. Its better but not by that much, I don't sit and zoom in and out on every little detail while browsing or whatever and the prime zoom is fine, I think so anyways. I think its kinda an overkill but it does look nice. I didn't see much difference while just on YouTube and general web browsing. Its simple to use it has quite a few nice apps for free, they take a long time to download. I just can't control it like I want to, once the Ipad is unlocked Cidea(SP?) or whatever they call it, can you do overclocking and all that? Custom Kernel? I know you cant change its basic layout but I don't know a lot about the IPAD yet. Whats the benefits of a jail broken IPad?
I think the games are on par I ran a test with a game that is not Tegra optimized for comparison, looked about the same to me. I don't know where IPAD got 5x better graphics maybe on a game they developed? Anyways all that's in the link I got up top.

I'm really glad someone made a IPAD comparison thread.
Thank you.

Sounds more like an android vs ios post. I made those conclusions when my original mytouch ran 1.5.

A question: can one of you folks (or more than one) who have both compare text in the Nook and Kindle reader apps, side-by-side? How much difference does the iPad's screen make in text quality for ebook reading? And, at close-to-print font sizes (for me, that's toward the smaller side of the font size options on both apps).
Thanks!

As someone who owns both a Prime and the new iPad here are my thoughts.
The prime is great with the keyboard dock. I love using it to sit in IRC with or chat with friends. I like the layout and customizability of the home screens.
The iPad is great for web browsing. I find safari far smoother than my prime and general usability of the zoom and gestures to make it faster to navigate around on than the prime.
Both are great devices, each have their ups and downs, though personally I think Asus could have done a far better job. My iPad doesn't reboot every hour or so or lock up.
On a side note about everyone complaining about how the new iPad isn't faster than the iPad 2. I'm going to break it down for those who need it simple. The new iPad is an iPad 2 with an upgraded screen, GPU, and LTE. That is all. There may be more ram for running programs but that's it. Others have said it has a larger battery which is true, however that larger battery doesn't last any longer than the iPad 2's smaller battery did. Sadly, the new iPad is still faster than the prime.

it works great. have you made sure to keep it updated? I can use fullscreen on it with no problems. plays flash video flawlessly also. I believe I had made it fullscreen in portrait mode to take that screenshot. but fullscreen doesn't crash on mines.

I was in Nebraska Funiture last night looking at the prime, and since there is an Apple store near I went and looked at the new ipad. I looked at the ipad 2, new ipad and the prime, and honestly I cant tell the difference between any of them screen wise. Unless my "retinas" are broke (and they could be) if there is a difference it's not drastic. I was told the new ipad had more pixels than my plasma, so I went in thinking it would look better than my plasma, it didn't. I didn't see anything about any of the devices screen that "stopped me in my tracks" They all looked good though. With that said, I just sold my transformer and soon as my funds clear ebay I'll be getting the prime.

I'd love my prime a lot more if it didn't lockup or reboot so much. My iPad doesn't have this problem. Neither does my Galaxy Note. Even though I love the prime, the problems it has, if you have them is a major downfall.

What kind of lockups are you getting? I just got a Prime the other day it updated twice right away and was fine. I then rooted and unlocked it, then flash over clock kernel to 1.7. Been Gaming 9 mm, Shadow Gun THD, and more. Also Splashtop THD works great. I use xScope Browser for web browsing set as desktop and works as nice as my laptop.

Oh, my Gosh! This is so awesome! Thank you so much for this comparison! Tonight, for once, I can sleep soundly. I have been worried so much about the iPad and how it compares to my Prime. Yes!

Cant really have an impartial comparison when you start of by saying you have and love your prime. You didnt really say anything negative about the prime and the pros you had with the ipad you later say its only a minimal advantage to the prime.
Hope the mod closes this thread.

Actually, there's probably comparatively little of that extra RAM available for running programs. A large proportion of it will be taken up by the frame buffer which will be 4 times larger than on the ipad 2.
Also, when you start getting apps with resources optimised for the iPad 3, those resources will also be much larger, and consume more memory when used.

The text quality of the iPad 3 is off the charts, whatever else you do or don't like about it. It's the best reading screen I've ever seen. There is zero pixelation, it's incredibly nice on the eyes. The Prime has a good screen but there is no comparison for text. I don't use the Nook app but I use Kindle on both, it's a retina upgraded app, the text quality is as near perfect as I've seen on an electronic device. Font size is adjustable and great, is there a specific function you want compared? I could throw Nook on them if there's something specific you need to know. Even the Google Book reader has gotten very nice, I'd say the iPad has much better reading apps (surprise) except I love the calibre catalog app on Android. You can recreate it with Stanza on ios but it's not as good.

We already have plenty of these threads - go post in there.

Asus Prime Killer?

Looks like I might not purchase the Prime after all. I was waiting on it but reading all of these nightmares makes me want to wait and see what this bad ass toy has to offer at CES next week.

Looks cool, but without the dock I'm personally not interested.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
For me it is the dock that makes Transformer Prime really worth it. I don't understand anyone who buys Prime without the dock, since it is not better than other high-end tablets in the market and has quality issues that the other high-end tablets do not have. I would buy something like Prime without the dock only if it was actually much better than the competition (higher clocked dual-core processor (quad-core is only really useful for games), 2GB of RAM, working GPS with better WiFi). Right now the Prime's non-existent GPS and weak WiFi alone are reasons enough to consider Galaxy Tab or iPad instead of Prime, especially since the only means of internet connection on Prime is through WiFi as opposed to 3G on its competitors.
So yeah, the only reason Asus has me as a customer is because they give me something others do not. Asus UK seems to understand this rather well too, since they are only offering the device with the dock. It's as if they know it would not sell well otherwise.
are either of the two games shown in the teaser even on android?
also: enjoy waiting until at LEAST march, but probably june for anything that is announced at CES to be available to purchase.
How is a device that we don't know what it looks like, what feature set it has, how many cores it's get, what the additional peripherals are, supposed to be an TP killer?
For goodness sake, the article doesn't even know whether it's going to be on android.
Sorry, you got some wrong sources, this is not about a tablet at all, this ad is for the Razer Switchblade, which is a kind of gaming netbook - you could also deduce this from the link at the end of the video - PCgamingisnotdead . com
It has nothing to do with Android, tablets and the Transformer Prime
It's one quite expensive gaming netbook for 2800$
More info about the device, which is definitely not a Prime killer - search for Razer Blade or Razer Switchblade (I was going to link it, but I'm a new member and apparently I cant )
If it's from Razer, you can bet it's overpriced. Just look at the Blade.
Razer usually makes crap so you can expect some really big stupid bugs in it like most of their stuff. Maybe like a handsfree GPS deathgrip, oh wait!
I'm hoping CES has something about the Google Tablet... I am hoping for something to be announced before the return window for the Prime closes because while I could live without GPS, I can't live without bluetooth which I essentially don't have in my Prime right now.
I bought their Mamba mouse, a decision I regret daily. Runs out of battery in 1 day, takes about 3 hours to get any computer to recognize it in wireless mode. And I paid way too much for it. I am sure the tablet will be a pain in the ass somehow too.
I don't like Razer either, their products usually have a very strange nerdy look, I mean look at their laptops:

That sir, is pure bull****.
It is a great tablet with high end specs. Its even cheaper then the Galaxy Tab 10.1
Galaxy Tab 10.1N 32GB: €535
Asus Transformer Prime 32GB + dock (worth about €150): €599 - €150 = €449
Not to note the better things the Prime has to offer vs. the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (and others) (fast RAM, Tegra 3, awesome display, keyboard).
Also, Asus is very fast with updates (are you aware that Samsung did release Android 3.2 for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 a week ago or so? Asus did that a couple of months back.).
It is just the best tablet today, with or without dock.
That tab OP linked to SUX . lol
it didn't list anything prime can't already do. those games are nothing as prime can handle the same thing since Tegra3. developers been said it'll be easy to port PC games and such to Prime/tegra3 without any loss in quality. they said for the first time they can developement in parallel since no dumbing down has to be done.
Prime would eat that Razr tab alive

Maybe for you. For me it is not the best tablet, I'll be buying it just because it has a dock.
In RAM and processing power it is weaker than iPad 2. It can defeat iPad in some tests, but loses out on others. Everybody says that ICS will change things, but we just do not know if it does. Not yet.
Not having GPS is a drawback in comparison to iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab. Not having 3G is a drawback. Having weak WiFi is a major drawback since it does not have 3G.
If you only use it to play games and watch videos then I agree, it is the best tablet out there. But as a mobile internet device it just does not compete with iPad 2 and Galaxy Tab.

Yeah sure, 1 GB & Quad core 1,3GHz (5 cores) (Prime) vs 512MB & Dual core 1GHz (2 cores) (iPad 2). You know the WiFi iPad 2 doesn't have a GPS either huh? Only 3G versions have a GPS.
WiFi is in line with the iPad 2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 btw.
Check your facts mate.

What's a prime killer? GPS
Like others have said, its not just the tablet itself but the tablet/dock combination that makes Transformer unique and more desirable than other tablets. If Samsung or other manufacturers offer the same then we might have some competition but as it stands right now, TP is in a league of its own and that is why despite its shortcoming has a great demand for.

Prime has far more processing power than ipad2 as far as CPU goes. now if you meant how ipad2 gpu a lil more Power then OK. BUT even that claim has been debunked by developers n reviewers. they said yeah the ipad2 gpu may score better in synthetic benchmark tests BUT real world results will have Tegra3 providing a better looking version of anything ipad2 would have. so your claims there are false also. if you felt so disappointed by Prime, f#&! the dock. go get u ipad2 with their crappy wireless keyboard and only 512mb of ram. with a piss poor front and rear cam. come on now..lol. the prime ain't selling out like crazy for nothing. Prime is here to stay and will continue to hold Crown of Best and Most powerful Android tablet ever created. plus will hold this title for several months as nothing is expected to release anytime soon.
The hype isnr about ipad2 or galxyvtab. the hype is about the Prime. Get used to it. The Prime is the best deal out there for what it offers. plus look at the updated Anadtech article addressing the GPS issue. that's what I'm thinking. instead of griping about it, just get something else. one of those outdated tabs he mentioned. because constantly downing the tablet then saying you still going to get one is a living contridiction. if I was so unsatisfied I wouldn't get one. regardless of keyboard dock. doesn't make sense.

The prime + dock is an amazing combination but I completely agree that the tablet on it's own gives nothing that's that special. the galaxy has CM9 now, which everyone who has used it says makes it fly, so I'm sure you won't notice such a huge difference between them, not to mention the difference in speed you are likely to see vs a prime with bad wifi. there are primes with good wifi but many people are having to fight through exchanges to get them. and comparing any android tablet on specs to the iPad is ridiculous since they have different OSs, and so use their specs differently.
I am still waiting for my prime purely because of the dock, and a hope that mine will have no wifi/bluetooth issues.

Razer likes to over-reach at the conceptual stage. Last year they had everybody in ooohs and aaahs at their switchblade concept.
It started as this...
and finally ended as this...
Which was initially supposed to hit the markets pre-christmas at a whopping $2800. Still not out, however, due to hardware delays (specifically the SSD).
I'm not bashing the end result - it's still an incredible looking machine. But it's easy to recognize the gap between their concept piece and end-result. I wouldn't bank your desire for a tablet purchase in the near-future on them. Switchblade went from concept at CES '11 to deviated end-result that still isn't out by the following CES '12.
They are ambitious, and make some nifty peripherals (although not without their share of negative feedback). Largely, they are good at marketing, possibly a little too good at it as the end-results tend to fall a little shy of their blog-hyped press-releases and snazzy concept photography.
Now CES is mere days away, and i might be caught eating my words by mid-July when they magically drop a shiny new tablet on the market . All I'm suggesting is don't take Razer marketing as gospel - it's very much crafted to generate hype - sometimes more than is warranted when the end-result shows up.

7 days with the Transformer Prime

I just wanted to share my experiences with the ASUS Transformer Prime after 7 days of owning one...
So when the Prime was first announced, I immediately decided that was going to the first and only Android tablet I get.
It had the specs. It had the looks. It had the good initial reviews.
Then when the Prime was released in the US, the first rumblings started to come out that the Prime was not as perfect as it seemed.
I was determined not to pay too much attention to the issues that people were having and wait to get mine to make my own mind up.
So on 2nd Feb, bought my Prime. And the first 48 hours were great; the tab had excellent build quality, the OS was nippy and there was the added novelty of the keyboard dock.
Boredom set in; there are not a lot of Android tablet apps out there; the apps that were updated to work with ICS scaled up beautifully, but are still very limited. The few optimised apps I could find were just OK, not great.
Also really dumb things began to irk me within the OS; setting something as simple as wallpaper was hit and miss. Sometimes the display would refuse to show icons or widgets without a reboot.
Then the bottom segment of the display would glitch and flash.
Talking of Flash, once I installed Flash 11 on the Prime, the performance took a bit of a hit; the browser was sluggish and wouldn't render properly;
I also had issues with DLNA; the devices in my house (Xbox, PS3, iPhone, Mac) can all see the folders on my Buffalo NAS with no issues. The Prime refused to see anything but the Music folder.
Bad.
Then we had the hardware issues.
The issue with GPS is well known; no lock whatsoever indoors…Outside, 5 MINS to get a lock on ONE satellite.
I thought "meh, it's not like I'm gonna use it…"
- Wi-fi signal would drop even when I was close to the router and even on a clear channel
- Camera quality for an 8MP camera was not as good as the iPhone 4S
- Light bleed on the right side of the display was bad as well…
- Battery was lasting 6-8hrs max;
It was at this point, I started thinking: This has just cost me £500.
It was something that I had been looking forward for weeks, had saved and sacrificed for… and I'm disappointed with it…
£500 is a lot of money for a device with so many flaws; it felt like a beta product.
It also didn't help that ASUS decided to announce an upgraded model with a fix for the GPS issues and that will probably have a better QA process.
Software-wise, Android has momentum… but it's not there yet.
I wanted to use BBC iPlayer; there is no app for tablets available and you can't even use the website because it's not supported; it's the same with Sky Go.
Both of these services have fully functional iPad apps, by the way.
There just simply are not enough decent quality or killer apps for Android tablet at the moment. Specs mean nothing without content to take advantage of them.
In hindsight, it was probably too early for me to get an Android tablet. As much as I like to tinker, at the same time I need something that is functional and just works.
I returned the Prime today; gutted I had to, but there too many issues and niggles that would have prevented me from justifying spending £500 on something that's not ready for primetime (excuse the pun).

It's not an attack, thank you.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and it's brilliant; I've had no issues with it in nearly a year and it's been rooted and all sorts.
Android is a great platform, but the critical mass is not there for apps yet.
The Prime is a cracking bit of kit; ASUS kinda screwed up by releasing a hyped product with so many issues, then made it worse by announcing an better version within days of the retail launch.
The point was to share experience, not start a flame war. Your post doesn't help.
Just return and it wait for a tablet that works properly. This forum is full of people trying to justify their 600 dollar purchase with blind fanboy logic. Any idiot can see this tablet has severe issues, some of which no software update will ever fix.
So let me save people the time and I will post the responses you are likely to hear.
"Mine works just fine.. sucks for you"
"Must be user error".
"My wifi works great"( manyof these people are clueless on how to even test wifi signal)
And the ever popular "cool story bro"

I actually thik the opposite. IMO, iOS sucks. Apple was never a cloud company and it is still a cloud wannabe. Google has always been a cloud company. Gmail, Docs, Chrome, great stuff. I am quite content with the apps available for Android. I even found QGET for my QNAP, was surprised to see that. More will come.
Good decision imho. It didnt do what you bought it for (what ever that was, not clear to me from your post).
I'm still very happy with it. No issues. Yeah software could (and will) be better. But this thing does everything i need and it does it good. Watching full high quality flash in the browser is a huge plus for me.
One thing though, i never had an ipad - so i guess i dont know how it is when you have dozes of "tablet" apps.
What is different about those compared to apps on android tablets? The layout of them? The features? I really like the idea behind ICS and the unification of apps for phones/tablets. Only problem it was just released^^ Think about the first 6 months the ipad was out.
But still i have a nice looking "tablet" app for everything i need. Great pdf reader&book reader, very nice newspaper app was already installed offering local newspapers. The music app is stunning and feels just so good, Gmail, Polaris office, many very good choices on browsers, video player software and keyboards. Stuff like Titanium Backup? Not even windows has such a good backup system.
The simple and accessible file system android has... I dont know iOS just has absolutely no chance on a tablet compared to android. IMHO. I'm sounding like a fanboy but plz show me why iOS is so much better on a tablet? There must be some really freakin awesome apps^^
[e] just had an important thought:
I think there is a big difference. Jobs once said today its all about apps on mobile devices. People want to use an app for everything instead of using the "internet". At least thats what apple advertises... But for me that isnt true at all. When i read news, i use the browser and if I want to watch starcraft games or TV i use websites for that as well. Google is a total browser company, chrome alone shows that. And i guess thats why ios will never be better for what i'm looking for.
i cant see apple last forever. Android is individuality. iOS is conformity. Now think about what modern society is and how people are today.

Although I love Android and my Prime, I completely agree with this statement 100%. That's what I've been telling people when they try to be like oh there's a new model tf-700 coming out, or new Lenovo crap tablet, or Samsung Ipad wannabe tablet, or whatever with higher specs. Higher specs don't mean jack of we don't have the software to fully utilize it. Its no secret that Android tablets are more powerful spec wise than Ipad or ipad2. Thing apple has downpacked is they make the most with what they have. Apps are 100% optimized for the spec on IOS devices. Just like at the beginning here, when people were crying about 1Gb of rAM not being enough to succeed. Well tell that to the sales figures of ipad1 and ipad2. My ipad1 only has 256mb of RAM. Ipad2 only has 512mb of RAM. Yet they own majority of tablet market n sell the most. The software and hardware apple brings mesh very well. I got tired of being locked down to Apples rules and very glad I got my Android tablet. My Prime kills ipad1 or 2 n looks or power or whatever. BUT they still have advantage of having wayyyy more tablet only optimized apps. There's no denying it. App store has a huge section dedicated to just tablet apps only. Makes it easier for people to distinguish between phone n tablet optimized apps.
Like I've always debated before, software is the key to Android success. Not constantly throwing hardware or higher specs at the issue. What good is a 3Ghz speed(example) new Android tablet, if its pushing the same on crap like Joe schmoe is on his cheap android phone? That's all I've been trying to say. ANDROID needs to concentrate more on the OS optimizing and the software or we will always be behind. As far as app quality goes. ANDROID is getting there though. But needs to pick up the pace fast. Especially with windows trying to jump back into the scene. Remember before there was every an android or IOS, Microsoft n windows ruled mobile. Like from my Kaiser(Tilt) n Rhodium(tilt2) days. I remember thinkn those phones were so high tech n could do so much. It was the ending of an era that brought way to IOS n Android. They were fresh n new n had killer features also. Real touch screens. Capacitive. Not that resistive touch screen crap that my old phones had. I even had a Motorola original Razed back in the day. Very high tech for its time. AS we see times are changing. It takes alot more to please people now. Just having higher specs won't do it anymore. ANDROID HAS to come with more than that. We have soon much untapped potential with Android. But like they say, Potential don't mean sh#! If its not put to use properly I have faith n Android believe it will eventually get to where it should be.

I Approve this message great points
Thanks for the responses!
It was a real wretch giving the tablet back; I love the flexibility of Android and it will get there in time...
I might even get the Prime again in a 6-12 months time... which is an ages when it comes to technology
I think its sad that someone leave a honest review gets flamed on lol, wake up and look at all the complaints on the forums the man is correct. And we all know android has potential but if the development is not there now then android is not there . That simple stop crying about how android is better

Yeah...its just so messed up how Asus tainted this Prime launch. Prime is an excellent device when you have a good working one. Like me I wouldn't trade my prime for any other tablet. It works so great for me. SERIOUSLY. BUT I KNOW there are defective ones out there so it messes up the experience for that person. For me this 5 core tegra3 device kicks ass. For others with defective devices, they are really disappointed n I can understand the anger behind it. But not all are that way though. The ones that aren't will always speak up n support it because of how much we enjoy it. Good luck on future tablet.

No, no, no, I was telling him bye (very coolly I thought), I wasn't leaving. I was one of the lucky ones with the prime from 01/27 plus I got a year ADH from BB so if they fix the GPS then I will replace it based on the GPS listed on the box. Besides look at my sig.
Just realized there is a whole cool story bro world out there. Okay to the OP I gonna post one that maybe you haven't seen to cheer you up, I think he is from across the pond. BTW I bought my first OG transfomer in Oct fully 7 months after original release so that should work out for you
Later 2 I sold mine on eBay for a good deal, as I am happy and my customer is happy. I'm waiting about 10 more days for the Samsung Galaxy Note. I'm still interested in where the android technology goes in 2012. If they can't make things stronger this year they may lose their chance to be the 'best other option' with the windows tablets coming out. I believe they will be good as well.

From years on forums discussing mobile devices, here's some etiquette type things I've learned.
1) Android vs. iOS - It's like comparing a diesel car to a hybrid. They both achieve the same result but totally differently. Owners of both will vigorously defend their choice. They don't need to be repeated here, but both Android and iOS have their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Saying iOS is "better" (which is subjective anyway) is a sure way of starting a flame war. Same thing applies in reverse on an Apple forum. Detente is the best anyone can hope for.
2) The "Grand Farewell" - If someone's leaving a device over issues, chances are there's already a thread open on said issues. If saying good-bye to people you don't know who really don't care what device you're leaving for or why is important to you, say it in that thread. Addressing an entire forum's audience on the front page announcing your plans is a bit self-indulgent.
3) The "I Just Got My Device" - Unless there's something unique about your particular unit, no one really cares. Theoretically they should all be the same and thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people preceded you. If you need validation, find another "I Just Got My Device" thread and bump that one with a hearty “Me Too!”
4) "My "X" Device is Better Than This Forum's "Y" Device - It's like going over to someone's house for dinner and calling them ugly. If there's a comparison thread, fine, it's open season. To jump in to a thread discussing the host forum's device and say "I don't have any issues with my ’X’" adds no value and just pisses people off; especially if they’re working through an issue. Chances are the "X" device may not have said issue but has its own which might even be worse. No one needs a “device pissing match” in the middle of an issue thread.
Just something to think about...
Now this is a proper way to share your experience and say farewell. I really appreciate that you did not disrespect the users, and stayed on topic and provided proper, no-rage fueled reasoning. Really sorry that you were not satisfied with your purchase, and it is your every right to switch to another gadget.
Would love to see you back when ICS ages a bit and Prime gets its issues solved. Me on the other hand, I am very happy with the prime.

Keeping it constructive - Sky Go app coming very soon for Android Tablets (End of Feb), iPlayer works like a charm, you have to request the desktop site from the browser, BBCHD videos are smooth as silk.
Looking forward to my flight from the UK to Australia in a couple of weeks with my Prime in tow, portable HDD connected to the USB port on the dock with 300GB of movies, this is my in flight entertainment!!
I have lightbleed, doesn't bother me, GPS is cack also, again it's what you want the tablet for and are willing to put up with - yes it's not perfect, but what is? I had an iPad2 and it kept slipping out of my hands as it was so heavy and the aluminium case was so slippy, had a Galaxy Tab 10.1 but sold it due to Tegra2 being rubbish and not wanting to convert all my movies to a format IT was happy with

seriously why didn't you buy an ipad or any stuff apple sells to people think like you?

This tablet is over hyped ???

I own a samsung galaxy tab 10.1 and also own a ipad 2.
I just bought a Transformer Prime tablet yesterday
...and its so buggy..I can't believe its being touted as the best andriod tab...(my samsung galaxy was better)
I'm an andriod fan...so I really want an andriod tablet that is as snappy and smooth as ipad 2.
in comes Transformer Prime. Everywhere I read how fast it is and how great the screen is and how it's an "ipad kiler".
Is it just me...or does this tablet fall really really short ?
(note: my wifi and gps both work fine...speed tested was 25 mb down ..same as my ipad/galaxy tab)
1. Although its fast to move between home screens, the tablet is noticeably laggy when using MOST apps: i.e: web browsing , youtube , mail.
- browser is slow to touch response, and is sooooo choppy/laggy...its just a total joke compared to ipad 2.
Browsing the web with this tablet is a total joke...I don't see how you guys do it?
My galaxy 10.1 was much smoother in comparison (which itself was a bit laggy)
- youtube works decently well...but the screen turns black when you rotate from landscape to portrait and vice versa...when doing this...there is screen flicker as it hides the rest of the screen ... lol so bad
- screen: super ips? are you kidding me? the colors look sooo faint compared to ipad2 and galaxy tab. The colors are the best on samsung galaxy tab... and worst on prime. And this is supposed to be a great screen? gimme a break...The font sucks...its so small n skinny...hard to read.
- Overall: its very slow! Main lag is web browsing...
- Market: I have no idea why they "updated" market to the new layout..it really sucks..and looks very cheap ..old one was much better imo
So, I'm obv ready to return this thing...but before I do..wanted to know if you all are experiencing these issues...or do i have a bad peice or what???
HI
My TF201 is very fast and smooth. It runs with Android 4.0.
Only the browser crashes sometimes (.15 Update).
My GPS has no signal, but who the hell needs GPS in a Tablet. I have a smartphone, much handier.
Overall, i would buy the TF201 again.

Here is some information for you.
1. Proper IPS screens are CORRECT. Over-colored Samsung screens are not. Better looking does not equal proper looking. When you print any image, it will be closer to your prime than your Samsung.
2. Did you update to the latest version? I never had any browser issues and its much faster than my iPad2 - on top of that, this is Android - put any god damn browser you like on it. Chrome although in beta, works great.
3. Put your tablet in performance mode.
4. Youtube does flikker sometimes, but only when typing in search. I've never had a black screen while rotating or whenever.
Overall, hhis tablet is much smoother than any other tablet - I'm a developer and I have them all - so I'm not just talking.
Somehow it makes me think you are using the prime in power saver mode - because this does make the display extremely ugly and the device laggy.
It must be you. My prime screams. Everything is perfect. The screen is bright. The fonts are pretty. No lag time. Hell even my gps and wifi work.
It has its issues but its a great tablet. Way better then the iFlop/2 or any other Apple product I have ever used, but that's my personal opinion. My browser is buggy so I stopped using it but that's a issue with ICS in my opinion all the ICS devices I have used have the problem. Use Chrome Beta (havent had one crash) or FF if you cant stand crashing. Youtube does that on my Thrive and my Inspire so its the app from my standpoint.
+1 for making sure your not in power save mode.
Also to traxxus I see you agree, you didn't buy this to be a 10" version of a Garmin did you lol.
Also why are you blaming the Prime for the market changing, that was Google's change not ASUS, every device is getting that update.
You probably dont have the same prime as i do^^ But hey you have the GalaxyTab and the Ipad2 why dont you just stick with them if they're better. Sell your prime and chill
Honest question, do you work for apple and were being told to come here and make bad posts about the prime? It just seems so obvious
(dont take me that serious)
another day, another stupid thread

No but car manufacturers dont sue each other either just because their rear mirrors or steering wheels look the same.
The mobile phone/tablet industry often reminds me of babies in a sandbox argueing about who the molds belong to... And so do the users sometimes

Yeah I find this true as well. I for a brief time was looking at a ford mustang ( until I went to a showroom and tried to test drive and and a salesperson told me they don't allow joy rides. Little did that idiot know I make a six figure income and could afford it. I was 22 at the time but you never judge a book by its cover come on!) and yes, while on mustang forums all the camaro people came to the forum and spread their Chevy gospel lol.
So its perfectly normal.
To the op, yes it has some software problems but it is A KILLER tablet. Make sure you are up to date.
The prime is MUCH faster than my droid razr and its got a pimped out version of aokp. Much love for droid theory and crew!

Did you do a factory reset after updating to ICS? It's a known issue that you really need to do a full reset after upgrading. My prime was a nightmare at first, I mean every single program would crash repeatedly, stock browser was one of the worst offenders. I'd gotten the prime and upgraded to ICS immediately before doing anything on the tablet at all. Then I found someone mentioning doing the full reset after upgrading and I tried it and it was a night and day difference. I mean literally I went from a program crash every 5 minutes to once a day if that.
Give that a try before giving up. And if that doesn't fix it, it's probably a bad unit. The prime definitely has some problems and to be honest ICS isn't really a fully mature OS yet imo, but what you're experiencing is not the norm for a properly functioning prime on the latest ICS build.
And for all the people saying troll go home, maybe he asked in a somewhat antagonizing way but he has a legitimate gripe. What do you think is better for primes, androids in general and this guy specifically? Telling him to go away or maybe helping him solve what's obviously a problem with his specific prime and bringing another happy prime owner into the fold?
As a new prime owner, I'm kinda disappointed. Nevermind about the gps.
My main beef is it doesn't feel fast. My stock uk 2.3.4 Galaxy S ii feels a lot faster. I'm thinking large websites heavy graphics, the Prime's is struggling with i/o.

No, no snotty "iSheep" comment from me. I fully believe that people are the same regardless of whatever toys they buy. But this illustrates the power of marketing in influencing consumer behavior. Heck, people buy bottled water!
Who else but Apple can get people to line up days in advance for its toy launches? The other day, my 6-yr old niece came up to me and said she wants an iPad for her birthday. Shut yo mouth, girl, where did you learn that nasty 4-letter word! 10 Hail Marys for you! And no ice cream either!
Then, thinking about it, if I were to get a tablet for little tyke, an iPad would be tops on the list right now. It's a great learning tool. And $400 one-time payment for an instant babysitter is not bad.
This is what Android has to face up against. It's not just a tech thing. Kudos to Apple marketers.
Then again, I take heart in realizing that all tech co's have their wax-wane cycles. Back in the day, it was the Sony Walkman that can do no wrong. Public tastes can change quickly.
The competition is great. Let's hope Goog will rise up to the challenge. I want my $199 Nexus tab. And my $499 Win8 tab.
Kind of ironic that earlier today I read a thread where you were quoting mods about xda rules/stances/etc yet here you are creating a thread that has NOTHING to do with a prime in the PRIME forums......
And some people have no clue why they'd need a new android tab either... I mean, some ppl buy new things just because they're new. That's not just the case for apple.
>And some people have no clue why they'd need a new android tab either... I mean, some ppl buy new things just because they're new. That's not just the case for apple.
When was the last time you see people get in line for a Dell or HP or anything Android...for days in advance?
For that matter, I'm hard pressed to think of any consumer product that had caused such anticipation, where even the act of waiting in line has become an "experience."
Beanies Babies? No...no lines, IIRC. Can anyone think of an equivalent example?
So, yes, it is really just the case for Apple, at least from my limited recollection.

Justin Beiber?
Totally agree. What apple does best is marketing. Go watch some apple documentary from the 80ies on YouTube. There's one dude talking about the goals of apple and i quote:
"We want to convert people"
Guess they succeeded.
If they didn't do so much in marketing, I don't think they would be like they are now. I've said this before to people, but I just feel like the i"product" owners are brain washed by Apples Marketing techniques. Sure the iPhone and iPad and whatever have "cool" features here and there, but I'm sure if I would get bored of it.
Maybe if i STARTED with an iOS device, I would look at things differently, but since I started with an Android OS device as my real smartphone. I can't really see myself using an iOs device.
Apple people are just ignorant to the better options or f*cked up people.
I asked my co-worker why the skin on her phone had a hole on the back (was to show the Apple logo), and said it was to "advertise". Haha
They really love to show them off like they have something magical.
Anyone seen that samsung commercial where their is a huge lineup in front of a apple store and someone show up with a galaxy s2 and the guy say:
"I'm creative, I can't have a Samsung. "...
I think that is pretty much it.
The irony is that up you can't customize a iphone whitout a jailbreak and even then it is very limited...

I think its mainly just a social standpoint piece. People want others to see them with an Apple device. Some see so many going crazy over Apple products an assume that they are superior products, because they simply don't know better. Others I believe buy them for what they are, easy to use, anyone can figure it out, modern electronic devices.
My younger sister has an iPod touch (never any apps on it, just music. Any mp3 can do that), an iPad 2(very very few apps), an is getting an iPhone when her contract is up. She currently has an Android phone. I looked at it the other day an asked why she had less than 10 apps an only 1 home screen setup on a phone she's had almost 2 years. Get reply was that she isn't in to that kinda stuff. What!!?? LOL. Yet all you can talk about is wanting an iPhone an using your iPad!!!??? If all you care about is texting an placing calls, then get a Jitterbug!!! Its just a social status for her. She is 24 too.
I bought an iPod Touch 4th Gen shortly after they came out. I love having access to Apple's Appstore. They have some great apps an games that I thoroughly enjoy. I would never have an iPhone as my primary phone, Android is so so much better an so much more fun. I do have an iPhone 4 that I got from a friend. I never activated it, just use it as a second iPod basically. I've jailbroke it, customized it some, used the Cydia apps, and I just don't see how so many people love those devices. It is so much slower than my Evo 3D even before root an overclocking. Evo 3D camera sucks, my Evo 4G was better, but its better then the iPhone camera.
Apple devices get boring quick!! I feel they have 3 owner categories: social status buyers, those who don't know better, an those who want a dumbed down an easy to use smart device.....

I agree. I think for majority of iPhone 4 and Ipad owners its more of a social status thing. its like having designer clothing and wearing Jordan sneakers. people go crazy over it just so they show it off and be like hey, look at me. I'm cool too...lol. iPhone and Ipad are really good devices. But not superior like most tend to believe. Apple is just a marketing genius and their app store had a headstart. ill give apple credit for making tablets popular or making them mainstream. they didn't create the market but made it popular instead.
I'd tend to think most apple device owners like to keep up with the Jones's. if you know what i mean.

I think it's interesting how you put this: it's a "great learning tool" and an "instant babysitter." No offense meant anywhere here--I'm a parent, and I know how blissful a few minutes of peace can be.
However, I don't think tablets and smartphones and such are "great learning tools." I think they reinforce the notion that kids have today that learning has to be entertainment. I'm of an age where I remember learning math, vocab, grammar, science, etc., etc., the hard, boring way--and I'm convinced that I learned more and better skills that way. Later in life, today's kids aren't going to be entertained every second in their jobs, which is why I think so many young people today don't perform well.
I'd say that a tablet for a kid makes for a decent toy, and can definitely provide a better form of entertainment than TV. But I would never call it a "great learning tool." And, if I were to get my son a tablet, it would be an Android tablet--at least that way he can learn to explore a device and devise ways to make it fit his needs, even how to dig into something and modify it, like rooting and such (which is why I think a $149 Nexus tablet would be EXCELLENT).

Here's what I think: Apple seems to be eating into their profit margins with the iPad. This will only get worse as lower-priced (and higher-quality) Android tablets continue to hit the market. Since it's such a huge portion of their overall profits that have been driving their stock price, any reduction will have an impact going forward.
I think a $149 (or even $199) Google Nexus tablet of any decent quality and marketed well could be a killer. They WILL eat into Apple's market share, and Apple will be forced to either come out with a lower-priced iPad (thus destroying their place at the top and validating lower-cost products), and/or continue to eat into their margins.
Bottom line: I think we could see Apple's stock price drop considerably over the next few years. And as that happens, they'll stop getting all of the attention from the media. The same cycle of hype driving stock price driving hype driving stock price could reverse pretty quickly. All that depends on Google doing some smart things, of course, and there's absolutely no guarantee that they will.

Apple made a mistake going with a hi res screen, making a heavier and thicker tablet. On a 9.7" tablet, the better screen is not that noticeable. I saw the thing at the store. basically an overkill. Heavier and thicker is a big step backward. Apple wasted a year and an upgrade. I'm not gonna upgrade my wife's ipad2. I'm so tired of columnists praising the new ipad. I hope there are more article like this on cnet , speaking the truth (that the better screen isn't that different).
Threads like these are sad.

Maybe they just want a tablet which works out of the box? And they think "Well, the $100 doesn't matter to me if I get a better screen and newer iPad". Android is great for people who want to change things on their tablet, but not for people who just want it to work.

Sure, you will not notice the screen is better but will notice it is a full 0,6 mm thicker and 50 grams heavier.. I mean come on, the first minute you will notice it is heavier (not even it is thinker) and then it isn't noticeable anymore.

there's actually more and more of those articles popping up. that people actually can't even tell the difference between the two displays side by side.
plus I did a little test of sorts last night. using opera browser I was looking at the font. I have good vision so it all looks clear to me. then I zoomed it up to the Max. the font still looks very clear and no jagged edges or anything. plus I can't see any pixels or whatever.
IMO, this shot looks clean as a mofo. so for me, the higher screen resolution is a bonus, but by far is needed. I came from an ipad1 resolution to the Prime 1280x800 resolution. now that's a bigger difference in clarity and why I think Prime has a great display itself.

I'm pretty sure it took me a week to find a sprint store with my Evo 3D. Sure, there weren't massive lines but for how hard it was to get one, sure seemed that way.
Also, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and XBox 360 all had massive lines. Apple isn't the only one. I remember seeing on the news that people were getting get shot for a Wii. Don't think I've heard of someone being shot for an iPad/iPhone.

Had the Nexus 10 and sold it. Here is why...

Hello,
How are you?
I decided I'd share my story and give my insights about the Nexus 10. First a little background...
I have been an OSX user for some years. From Macbook, to Macbook Pro, to iMac, I have long ditched windows for my personal computing needs.
In the gadget front, I have always been an android user. Despite having thought about getting an iPad on some occasions, or even an iPhone, I never actually pulled the trigger.
Since my first smartphone, I have always used android phones, from 2.1, to froyo, to Ginger Bread, ICS and now Jelly bean.
After having several phones I settled for the galaxy nexus. I really like Google Web Services and the way they all just work with android and sync flawlessly.
I also love the Nexus pure android and timely updates.
Because I was so happy with my phone, when the nexus 7 came out, I bought a 16gb wifi unit. It was not my first android tablet. About a year ago I bought an HTC Flyer that a few months later I gave to my wife. At the time I had a Galaxy note and didn't use the tablet that much... But anyway...
I liked the Nexus 7. It is fast, good size, good portability. The device is not ideal for web browsing, but because of it's screen size, it is great to use phone apps to do things, like ebay app, paypal app, tapatalk, and such...
Then, after the confusion of the 13 November nexus 4 and nexus 10 launches, I ended up not getting any. Last week, I was finally able to order a Nexus 10 from the playstore and it was delivered this monday morning...
Unboxed it:

Beautiful device. Great specs. It was light, well built and with a good feel.
Loved the screen... Beautiful piece of kit.
The front facing speakers were great...
It ran fast as hell... Synced everything with my nexus 7 and galaxy nexus beautifully!
It was a dream of a device... Until I actually started using it...
There were not too many apps for the bigger and higher res screen...
But that is ok. It is not like I use apps for facebook, ebay or forums on my laptop or desktop... I just use the web browser...
So, went and used it on the nexus 10... And that was the disappointment...
The 16:10 screen which becomes 16:9 when in use thanks to the soft buttons is horrible.
Text is crisp as hell, and I see no pixels, but I also see no content...
The tablet is just to short in height to use in landscape mode. I have to scroll and scroll and scroll to use any site... The way the sites scale on chrome, even fully zoomed out, just don't allow enough content on screen...
So, portrait, no problem...
Well, terrible...
It felt like holding a wooden board... The tablet is just too long and becomes too top heavy to use comfortably in portrait... Also, because the screen is narrow, the web sites don't look natural...
After trying to like the Nexus 10, I just couldn't...
Ended up selling it yesterday. Thanks to the high demand and low supply, I still made a tiny profit with it.
And today I ordered an Ipad 4.
I just realised that at the end of the day, it is not specs, or GPU or CPU or Ram or PPI that make a device...
When a company thinks about usability and ergonomics of a device, that just shows in the way it becomes natural and comfortable to use said device.
I just didn't find the Nexus 10 comfortable or natural for what I wanted to use it for, and that was web browsing mainly.
Maybe that will change in the future when android gets really multi tasking with resizable windows. Thanks maybe the 16:10 will be a plus.
But in the current state of tablet operating systems, for me the 4:3 is more natural and better.
So, this is my experience. I must thought I'd share.
At the end of the day this is just my impressions and my opinions and my feelings towards tablets. I am not an apple fanboy or android fanboy. I am a big nerd and a fan of technology.
It is how you feel about what you use and how what you use gets what you need done that matters. In the end of the day, tablets, phones, laptops, are either tools or toys or a bit of both, but they are not what's most important.
Best regards.

If you're looking for an Android device with a 4:3 aspect ratio, consider buying a Nook HD+. It's probably the lightest small tablet around, and hopefully they'll port CM to it soon.
Well having a tablet, you need buttons. Most go with onscreen buttons, otherwise those cheap brands with buttons that break in a couple clicks.

Too each their own I suppose. To me the aspect ratio seems like a silly reason to sell it. I too dislike the wasted real-estate of the nav buttons, but with Android you have the choice to get rid of them.

That is always debatable.
As is the usefulness of my topic. It might not be useful to you, it might me to someone else.

Yet, in here seems android has fanboys like apple is said to have...

I am not an apple fanboy, nor an android fanboy.
I own an imac, a lenovo windows laptop, a nexus 7 and a galaxy nexus. If I could afford it I would also have a Lumia 920, a surface tablet, a Macbook retina, and so on.
Because I like technology and I like to try out technology to find the one that suits me best.
I don't need to buy and sell nexus 10s to make a living... If I needed, I would not have bought one, but 20...

The iPad is terrible for viewing media with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.
It is also terrible for listening to music with a mono back-facing speaker compared to the front facing stereo on the Nexus 10.
Web sites with a lot of wide detail can be viewed on the Nexus 10 in landscape without zooming.
Web sites with little wide detail can be viewed in portait allowing more to be seen without scrolling.
So the Nexus 10 can be used in which ever way is best for Web sites.
Apple have already realised how much better the 16:9 format is and changed the iPhone 5 and it won't be long before the iPad follows too.

On stock, this is a slight problem. On a custom ROM though, can just expand desktop and hide both bars for the full display.

He dont like change and what he meant is that he is comfortable with the vga screen rather than using the hd because he likes it that way. Well enough its just you who like the outdated 4:3. As far as full screen scaled apps are not there. You have to wait a little for that the full hd screens just came out. Devs need time to scale theur apps. U didnt like the form factor well then stick with ur nexus 7. 10 inch is for those who are replacing their PC with a tablet.
In the end not every device is for everyone. Ppl with money just buy everything thinkingit will be productive. Next time consider ur use and then buy a device.

FYI - HD is anything over 720p (or 1080p depending on what you think), the ipad 4 isn't VGA. oh. and VGA is not a quality of screen, it's an output method, that can output more than 1080p funnily enough. (ok, lets assume that you mean 640x480 anyways, but the ipad still isn't that)
i find that saying 4:3 is outdated is a little silly, as it does allow you to use it in multiple orientations more easily than a 16:10 (but yeah, 16:10 is nice too for other reasons)
you can't replace a PC with a tablet. (well, not completely)
I don't get people complaining of landscape mode for web browsing. I have yet to own a tablet and can't wait to use the screen size in landscape mode for web browsing, it is going to be a dream.
But this is coming from a guy who never owned a tablet and browses the web on a 4" Ipod 5 in landscape mode.
I am looking forward to the aspect ratio of this tablet. How big do you need?
I just got my nexus 10. Which Google delayed shipping to me because they ran out of stock on the 8 GB phone (mind you I ordered on day 1 too) oh and they put a bumper in lieu of my actual phone and Google csr tier II is terrible. So not only did I have to wait 2 weeks to get my tablet which they still had plenty of stock they ************ forgot the phone which caused the delay in the first place. †************* great.
So now onto my experience with the tablet. It doesn't feel as smooth as the nexus 4. Video playback is amazing though. The text is not as smooth or crops as compared to the iPad 3 in my house. The book readers are terrible ... I am sorry but iBooks is actually much easier to use and in a twist of irony you can also use manually place your own ebooks into I books but you can't with Google's default reader. I also hate this keyboard which I plan to change.
Sent from my nexus 10 for which I have mixed feelings about and perhaps I'm A TAD BIT colored by my extreme hatred over this Google play fiasco.

lol yes VGA stands for Video Graphics Adapter... i think a fair statement would be for working 4:3 is preferred and when playing 16:10 ... keep in mind tho it wasnt so long ago ALL tvs were 4:3 and now its the opposite most tvs are 16:9 etc.. this is off topic but when i play css on my 52" tv i have to play it in 4:3 ( 640x480 ) because the orientation gets out of whack so to speak if i go to 1600x1200 yeah its time for an HDMI video card. but anyways... the reason i replied was the last statement it made me think about it since i have a tablet and a wireless keyboard and mouse to go with it... to use them i cannot be charging at the same time so i guess you are right portability wise... nice thought tho. if i could get a good news reader on it ( dont see any reason why not just havent looked into it yet) and use my powered hub so the hdd, keyboard, and mouse dont kill the battery on the N7 i cannot see why not ? as far as flash games i am kind of tired of those anyways.. and to replace CSS all i need is a good FPS. i already found a great one ( free) that showcases what the GPU is capable of. just need to get it working with the wiimote and im good.

Mr. I never expected that ur so dumb that u wont get the humor out of the vga thing. Plus vga never support more than 720 p.
Ur criticizing because u are among those who can bear change. Tablets have almost replaced the PCs atleast for a majority now dont say that u use a visual studio or other compilers for programming or maya and other graphic work. For that sort defintely a tablet is useless.

Are you joking about the keyboard? iOS keyboard is a POS with letters that always show in upper case even when caps lock is off. They place language setting where it's easily changed by accident instead of properly separating it in settings menu. It doesn't have native swype and voice dictation is weaker.

Well no ****, it goes without saying that voice dictation is weaker on the iOS.
The rest really is just a matter of preference.
I find the nexus 10 keyboard to be unnecessarily cluttered.
I think the iOS keyboard works a lot better on mobile devices.
I also prefer the nexus 4 keyboard over the tablet because it's simpler and intuitive.
I don't use swype typing with two fingers is much faster for me. I've also heard that this native swype is a pos compared to the real swype.
You don't like it, you can probably change it that's the android way.
Well the book readers at still pretty helpless.
I don't get why there's so much... disapproval over the OP's decision. Buying and using a device should probably be personally enjoyable, or else you would of wasted your money right? He listed his reasons why he didn't like the Nexus 10, and purchased an iPad 4, so what? Did he spend your money? Does his decision affect you in any way? Did a car barrel roll for miles across the world killing thousands because of this decision?
Also, I think there is no "master" device or OS. Different people have different tastes and do different things, there is no 1-device/OS-fits-all, and that is a fact

Firstly, your humour was pretty poor, if that.
Secondly, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA "Today, the VGA analog interface is used for high definition video including 1080p and higher."
(W-W-W-W-WIKIPEDIA'D)
Thirdly, while tablets are pretty damn useful at what they do, they aren't nearly powerful enough to take over PCs (hell, they can't even do multi-windowed stuff) so if all you do is browse the web and email your buddies, then sure you can have a tablet replace a PC.
but... "Tablets have almost replaced the PCs atleast for a majority" is an incredibly short sighted and relatively stupid statement.
have fun storing terabytes of data on your tablet.
(p.s. is it really that difficult to structure a decent sentence with decent grammar?)

1. Proving a point using Wikipedia is... well there's a reason why Wikipedia isn't highly-regarded for 100% factual information
2. You'd be surprised how hard English might be when it's not your native language (not sure if the person's native language is or isn't language, just stating this overall)
