I am bit confused yesterday when I installed the ClockWorkMod Recovery Touch by Koush, after installing it via the recovery, it was working well but then when I boot again to recovery mode, it returned to the CMW-Based Recovery.
I think the CMW-Based was installed during my first CF-Rooting.
So now, what is the difference between ChainFire's CWM-Based and Koush's CWM Recovery?

Recovery is linked to the kernel, any recovery you flash independently of a kernel will not persist after reboot.
Non-touch one is old recovery and touch one is new with "touch" as the only difference

I know that mate, but it works once during installation then after booting to recovery again, I am still geting the CWM-Based Recovery instead of CWM-Touch Recovery, make sense?
Also, Chainfire published the CWM-based while Koush's owns the CWM-Recovery.
Have you an app CWM that is touch recovery .
But a CWM and rooted kernel that is an older CWM recovery .

Yes it is the older CWM, I want to replace it with the Touch version, but it will only work once. After installing and reboot again to recovery mode, I am still getting the old CWM.

Hi everybody,
I am using CM9 Nightly build 05/26/2012 on my Galaxy S II (which I flashed from an existing CM7.2 installation). Everything works quite well except for one thing:
Every time I try to update Clockworkmod Recovery, it works once, and then after one more reboot in recovery mod, everything reverts to "CWM-based recovery 5.5.0.4".
Here are the steps I follow:
1) I open Rom Manager and go to "Flash ClockworkMod Touch". The download starts, Rom Manager gets superuser access, and it tells me that everything is OK.
2) If I reboot in Recovery Mod at this point, I am still with CWM-based Recovery 5.5.0.4, and it tells me that it fails to seek /cache/update.zip
3) Still in CWM-based Recovery 5.5.0.4, I go to Install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from internal sdcard -> "/update.zip" (which Rom Manager has put here), and install it.
4) It seems to work: ClockworkMod Recovery Touch v5.8.1.5 shows up (with full touch capabilities).
5) If I reboot to recovery, then I get CWM-based Recovery 5.5.0.4 back, as in the beginning...
How is this possible? I would really appreciate if someone could tell me if I am doing something wrong! Note also that the same happens if I download CWM Recovery from the official website (either the "regular" v4.0.1.5 or the "touch" v5.8.1.5) and manually flash it with my CWM-based Recovery. It shows up correctly once, and then the next time CWM-based Recovery 5.5.0.4 is back!

Recovery is linked to the kernel. Until you flash a kernel which has the version of recovery you want, it will never "stick".

Ok, here's what I have installed - OUDhs CWM Touch Req0very v1.0.3.5 (typing from the actual screen presentation)
I want to install CWM 6.0.4.4. It comes in a .img format. I have the current RomManager apk installed.
Rom Manager says it flashed the 6.0.4.4 version but when I reboot into recovery I still see the OUDhs recovery.
How do I get the 6.0.4.4 installed properly? Odin wants to download from somewhere and I haven't figured out where.

I'll save you a ton of headaches - below is zip file of CWM Touch 6.0.4.4 lokified. Can't remember what thread I got it from, but works perfectly - just flash like normal zip. :good:
I have a rooted MDK Verizon S4 with SuperSU installed. I had been trying to use Rom Manager to install clockworkmod recovery and every time, it comes back with the message that it has been successfully installed. When I try to boot into recovery, it wouldn't work. I finally installed GooManager and went ahead and installed TWRP. Now I am able to boot into TWRP with no issues, but when I try to overwrite and install clockworkmod recovery from within Rom Manager, it again comes back with the message that it has been successfully installed, but it still boots into TWRP.
I understand that I can use TWRP to switch over to a different rom, but I am just befuddled as to why I am not able to install clockworkmod. Can you guys please help me understand what I am doing wrong?

You can either ODIN the CWM edition you want (for example Philz Touch Recovery - http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/jfltevzw) - get the md5 file of course for ODIN. You can also try to flash the zip file of Philz Touch Recovery from your SDCard (same site - http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/jfltevzw) through TWRP. Reboot into recovery and see what happens.

Thanks. When I was trying to install CWM within Rom Manger, I ended up paying for the touch upgrade, hence my desire to try and install CWM form within Rom Manager... It's just a bit frustrating that I can't figure out what's going on..
tried Rom Manager but could not get it to work
went to clockworkmod homepage
and my tablet am not in the list
does it mean its not supported?
is there any other way to install cwm recovery other than rom manager?
or install custom rom without cwm recovery?
If it's not listed on the homepage then no image file will have being created for you to flash.
Some of the developers know how to edit the Philz touch recovery 6 for the newer kernels.
Would that recovery work for you?

so would i able to install any custom rom without cwm recovery?
Well you normally need a custom recovery like CWM, TWRP or Philz touch recovery 6 to install a custom rom, yes.
Is it ok to flash twrp over cwm or do i need to remove cwm first. Hi i have been searching for this particular topic and found no definite answer. I am currently trying to flash blisspop rom on my phone and it says to use the latest twrp recovery. The problem is I have cwm installed on my phone. So my question is ok to flash twrp over cwm or set my default recovery to twrp
@onedaynerd: simply replace CWM with TWRP 2.8.6.1 by Odin. Ashame TWRP can't read/restore CWM-backups.

As far as I know, there will/can be only one recovery. Any recovery can be overwritten by the other. Just flash the new recovery and it automatically replaces the old one.
Example, If you are currently having CWM then boot into CWM recovery and flash the TWRP recovery zip file and reboot the device. Check the recovery by booting into recovery again. Now you will find TWRP as your recovery. CWM will be gone.
