Archos 80 G9 Native Xbox Controller Support Problem - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've got an Archos 80 G9 and I have been having problems with native support for My Xbox 360 controller.
My setup includes a micro-usb to usb Female adpater in which I have a Xbox Wireless Reciever (Official version).
I attempted some research and according to the Archos changelog
Xbox gamepads are now supported.
I am able to sync the controller with my tablet and then navigate arround the app shortcuts.
When I boot up Shadowgun I am able to navigate the menus but when I boot up into a level as soon as I touch any control the character begins to spin and the controls are disfunctional except from the left analogue to move and the A button for action. I am also unable to use the keybinding functions.
When I use n64oid the support is "better" I can keybind most of the controles except the d-pad and the right analogue stick - the same keys unbindable/disfunctional in Shadowgun.
I am not sure if USB/BT joystick centre is supported on the Archos 80 G9 but I can not make it work with any applications, the Software picks up the controller and shows the keybindings functioning correctly but I can not use the controller in any apps.
My device is running the Rooted firmware availible from this forum version 4.0.5.
Some more research uncovered that the tablet is perhaps just using a generic driver to control the Xbox controller but I am unsure how to correct this issue.
Thank you in advance

I have to say that personaly i have your same setup, but, i have tried the controller and have had no problems, atleast with the mame emulator... did you format the tab after the upgrade to ics?

Him I'm glad to hear at least someones has had success with the Xbox controller.
In terms of formatting I can't say I did.
Would you reccomened I reinstall everything again?
The proccess I took was:
Paul's root
SDE menu enabled
Remove Pauls root
Load up the custom firmware in recovery
Update
Where in this process should I be formatting? Also are you referring to the 'format device' function in the recovery menus?

Just to check: are all of the buttons in the n64oid bind able? My controller sort of works but as I said the d-pad and left analogue sticks are not bind able and bring up a 'none' under key bindings.
Thanks

I'll try binding keys with the n64droid emulator, and try to see how shadowgun works with it.... what I did was, download the latest ICS firmware from archos, go to the recovery menu (volume + button at start-up) and did a device reformat, after that, when it asked me for the firmware I copied the file i downloaded... after that, if you want root, just download an ICS rooted firmware, copy the file to the internal storage, and from the SDE menù, flash the kernel and initframfs... you don't need to re-enable sde, that will stay there.

Have to say, the right analogue stick doesn't work, or the directional keys... everything else seems to work... will try to find a fix, because indeed it does create problems in games like shadowgun
---------- Post added at 01:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:47 PM ----------
I still recommend that you reformat the device, since ICS runs faster if it's a clean install

I have fond this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1407804&page=2
However when I try to follow the instructions on a virtual terminal I encounter a problem:
This is apparently what I should be doing:
su
cd /system/usr/keylayout/
mount -o remount,rw /system
cp Vendor_045e_Product_028e.kl Vendor_045e_Product_0291.kl
However when I get to mount -o remount,rw /system I am told that 'can't find /system in /proc/mounts' Is there some kind of problem with the root? I tried to make /system RW put it refuses to acknowledge its there.

Interesting find! Will look into this

Any tutorial? how to connect xbox controler to archos g9?

Just purchased Riptide GP
Manged to keybind everything perfectly and plays very well.
Starting to think the problem is not with my archos but with Shadowngun and N64oid.

Seems to be related with some games yes... you might be able to solve the problem with an application that can manage keybinding... still looking into the problem, don't have a lot of time today...

Will Devs Adapt Tnt Lite and VegaN for Dock Ethernet Support

Thanks again to all the Devs that have made our tablet usable. As you know, docks are being imported (I believe you will have one soon) and apparently only the zpad rom supports the ethernet port. Are you going to be able to get this support into the TnT and other custom Roms?
Thanks

Haven't gotten it (yet). Snow probably slowed things down, I expect.
I came home to find the stand at my door. USB works fine with the power adapter and it is slightly weighted to help itself stay still.
Haven't tried to use HDMI. Ethernet would be good for the network folks who want to eventually want to sniff traffic and other such stuff. So +1
Typed this out on a keyboard plugged into the usb of the stand, so handy to just doc and have a keyboard. I am on TNT 2.4 so no mouse
I couldn't get Ethernet to work reliably without a conf change (DNS was borked). I added a fix in 3.1.3 that should correct it, at least as per my tests so far.
HDMI and USB seem to work A-OK OOTB.

roebeet,
For those of us who are running stock, what was the conf change that you needed to do for DNS (assume root and terminal are available)?
Thanks!
Jim
The problematic file is this one:
/system/etc/dhcpcd/dhcpcd.conf
You just need to add this entry, to it:
Code:
interface eth0
# dhcpcd-run-hooks uses these options.
option subnet_mask, routers, domain_name_servers
This seems to tell the device how to assign DNS servers to the interface. This is in TnT Lite 3.1.3+ and also VEGAN b5+.

I can see this file using z4root, but what app do I use for editing it?
Still running stock rom at this point.
*N/m, googled it. Thx!
This is for the n00bs (like me) who want to stay with stock rom for a while and need to do this fix for wired ethernet with the malata dock. I needed it because at my job the wireless is turned off due to sensitive client info.
You need to install three apps:
z4root to root your tab
root explorer to copy a file
astro to edit that file
Turn off wireless.
Root your tab using z4root. The temp root wouldn't work for me, I had to do the permanent root to get the option to mount as rw in root explorer. Ymmv.
Navigate to /system/etc/dhcpcd/dhcpcd.conf with root explorer. Copy that file, navigate back to sdcard2 and paste the file onto your microsd card.
Make a backup copy of that original file somewhere, I put my backup in a folder on my netbook.
Open the file on the sdcard2 with astro, choose file editor and add the lines that roebeet posted above. Make sure you type it exactly, including spaces, etc. Save your changes. Exit astro.
Open root explorer again. Copy the edited file on your sdcard2 and navigate back to /system/etc/dhcpcd/dhcpcd.conf
Make sure you've clicked "mount rw" in the upper left corner of root explorer.
Paste the edited file in that directory. It will overwrite the original file. Click "mount ro".
Exit back to classic home (I shut down my tab at this point).
Connect your gtab to the dock, plug your charger into dock and connect your ethernet cable. Boot your gtab while connected to the dock. You may have to reboot once more but this fix works perfectly.
For some reason stock browser didn't pick up the connection but Maxthon and xScope Pro did. Stock browser may have just needed refreshing or something but it was late and I was tired so didn't bother with it.
Hope this helps someone else get it done a little quicker than I did

Why are you exiting Root Explorer and opening Astro?
Just use Root Explorer to navigate to the directory and:
- change the permissions to r/w
- long press on dhcpcd.conf
- select EDIT FILE and make the addiition
- save it and change the permissions back to r/o
- michael
ohhh... just occured to me that maybe there's a 'lite' or free version of Root Explorer that doesn't include the ability to EDIT files!

Yes, using the free version I didn't see an option to edit.
Added note:
If you upgrade to build 4349, you will have to redo this fix for ethernet support. While VS states the upgrade adds dock support, it apparently is not for the Malata dock w/Ethernet.
This seems to work, as checking the connections using the busybox ifconfig command shows an eth0 connection. But both the browser and my Weather Widget Live Wallpaper can't find an internet connection. The Settings page has no way of telling it to use the LAN connection for internet connectivity.
So, it may "work", but it seems to be useless.
All of my browsers work with this fix. I'm posting from work using the dock now.
Weather widget doesn't work tho.
Hi,
I tried this fix on CM7 but it did not work.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Wish I could help but no idea. Different rom, different kernel. Not sure who the dev is for CM7 but I'd try asking him if possible.
I've used it on stock 3588, 4349, and now Roebeet's Brilliant Corners (already included in this rom). Works on all those with all browsers I've tried so far. However, I cannot d/l from market via ethernet tho I can browse and select, apps are d/l as soon as it picks up a wireless connection.
Some apps work perfectly with it and some insist on a wireless connection.

It must be a simple missing setting on the configuration. The file is there and it did not have the ethernet section, it had USB and WiFi.
I'll keep digging.

That's the way the file is on stock rom as well. For some reason VS couldn't fathom anyone ever needing an ethernet connection, apparently.

[Q] gtabcomb 3.3 beta touch sensitivity issue.

Hello there,
I am new to the forum and pardon me if I post the thread in wrong place. I have got viewsonic G tablet and I am running gtabcomb 3.3 beta , bootloader 1.2 v.
Everything is working fine however there are some issue that is really irritating.
1. I have noticed the tablet does not respond to touch sometimes specially when the battery level goes around 70%. rebooting the tablet does not solve the issue. I have tried the touchcaliber app found somewhere on the forum but it seem to solve the issue momentarily.
2. i do not seem to mount my external hard drive or flash drive from the usb port. I tried all different file formats i.e. ntfs, ext3 , ext 4.
Thats all for now.
thanks in advance for any replies.
Take it easy.

You should be able to mount all three filesystem types manually. Automounting, however, only works if the filesystem type is either VFAT (AKA FAT32) or extn. And, if you use an external HDD, it may have to be independently powered--instead of being powered via the USB.
See this thread and this one.
Hello,
Sorry it took little longer to reply,
I could not try your suggestions as I ran into some other problem. apparently I did not have any terminal application. When I tried to install an application from market it is showing me error about purchase can not be made.
Market finds applications for me but does allow me to install. Looks like its broken on my tablet.
So now I need perhaps market fix !! I do not know.
I am literally lost.
Thanks
If you have adb set up, you can use that instead of using a Terminal Emulator:
Code:
C:\> [B]adb shell "echo -n 1 > /sys/devices/platform/tegra_touch/calibration"[/B]
As for Market not working, curse Google, then see this post.
I must thank you a lot. for the first time after 6 months , my tablet runs so smooth with your solution.
I have installed new market from .apk suggested in your post. its working fine as of now.
I am able to mount my usb flash drive in ext4 formatted via a program drive mount however I have some .mpg video files on it that is not displayed. it can see .mp3 file and directories on the drive but no videos.

[BOTH][MOD by APP] Nebtop - Universal HDMI Webtop hack

UPDATE
I will keep updating issues about Webtop on my website. I won't copy those analysis or finding to here to reduce redundancy and effort....
Demo Video
What is this about?
In short, you can use this to activate Webtop mode and see the virtual pad on the phone with an HDMI cable only.
In long, this is a runtime MOD that can simulate the docking event of the HD dock so that the virtual pad will come up. Together with the hw.whisper trick, the Webtop option can then show up and being selected.
This mean if you set the hw.whisper manually, you could still see the Webtop option. Be sure to set this using root before plugging in the HDMI cable.
To make this ease of use and able to simulate the docking event, an APP has been written to do the runtime MOD for you.
This app requires ROOT privilege.
Why is it called Nebtop?
Well, everything needs a name.
HDMI Cable \ + Nebtop -> \Nebtop -> Webtop
For sure, the phone must have webtop built-in for this to work.
What is the difference of this MOD comparing to the existing system apk MOD?
Fenny's MOD was the first that allows exactly the same result for various Moto phones. That was the first important foundation for further improvement.
The runtime MOD done by Nebtop has the advantage of not changing anything persistently. So in the worst scenario the kernel will panic and cause reboot only.
Also, this MOD is trying to be universal, for different phones and ROMs that supports Webtop. Even it failed for kernel compatibility issues, if it can be done, it will be done.
Tested device
Razr (Tested by me)
Atrix, Atrix 2
Photon
Bionic
Droid 4
Feel free to try it on your Webtop workable device with an HDMI cable! As the least request, please report whether it works for you and what phone and ROM you're using so that I could keep this MOD by APP improved.
Download it here: https://sites.google.com/site/androidnothize/nebtop
Or search Nebtop in Market.
Enjoy!
If you think that it helps you and would like to support my work, you could always find the latest version from market which is a paid version.
Special thanks
Fenny for the first for the Webtop Via HDMI Without a Dock breakthrough.
Turl from the atrix dev team for the hw.whisper trick.
Just tried it out; although I was using the botched CDMA hacked webtop the trackpad display came up but no function; It does show that it is connected to a dock though which is a good step in the right direction.
Do you have the original webtop files available in a zip format to flash through CWM or possibly full ROM for CDMA Verizon?
* reloaded razrx rom; now webtop shows top left only of my screen but still no control from the phone itself
** reset phone; full screen but still no responsive phone pad
*** loaded nitro deodexed; still no response to the phone pad, displays fine but the new display comes up blank as the rest
**** loaded another stock rooted rom 744; no change in phonepad function; phonepad appears and can rotate, extent of function
CDMA Verizon
Kernel 2.6.35.7
EDIT:
Works fantastically on stock outside of the safe strap rom

Yeah I can do that, what files do you need?
Will need the logcat -v time when you loaded Nebtop and see the virtual pad on the phone, that cannot rotate or won't pop keyboard or have no effect when moving.......
Also try those home, back, setting and search keys.
And make sure you have a clean reboot before testing since sometimes webtop can fall into an unstable state as I've tried which will only be cleared after phone reboot.

I am unable to generate a log file for you; I even attempted adb shell within a terminal emulator on the phone; [email protected]_spyder:/# basically saying the device is offline, I reset the adb server a couple times and it didn't help.
What works:
Displays the virtual pad and rotates
What doesn't:
The screen becomes unresponsive, the display which mirrors the phones display is blank, and none of the virtual keys work, including the hard keys such as home, back, etc.
I have reset the phone and used multiple roms for CDMA however I can't seem to get it working. I have fixed permissions, each wipe I do data, cache, format system, and wipe dalvik cache (although it gives me an error about E: SD-ext).
If you have any suggestions to get the ADB service back up and recognizing itself I will gladly get you logcat files.
*Side Note: I know it isn't my PC drivers or my Mac; I attempted to get adb running on all including the terminal inside the phone; all say the device is offline, is it possible it has something to do with safestrap?
I thought once installed SSHDroid, you could use ssh/PuTTY to access the terminal from PC, gather the log and redirect to a file, then finally scp to copy the file back to PC.
Or use another SwiFtp app for file transfer as the default install of SSHDroid failed to initiate the scp for me.

[krn.modules] xpad.ko for XBOX 360 gamepad

As title says, only tested on rooted stock Samsung ROM - built from update3 sources.
Unpack the bz2, then copy the .ko file to your SD card or internal storage. Use a terminal app, SSH or ADB shell to insmod xpad.ko and you're winning.
Seems to emulate a keyboard, works on Snes9xEX at least. Controller LEDs keep flashing - if anyone knows what option to pass to fix that I'd be appreciative.
Your other option is the BT/USB Controller app from the market.

type terminal emulator on market download the one you like then, put the file from here after you extract it of course in a folder you will create and name plugin on your internal sd card and finally type insmod /sdcard/plugin/xpad.ko in the app you downloaded and you're all set!
(you must be rooted i think and if you want to have the plugin running each time you reboot your phone you will need to write this line in a file with no extension and place the file on system/etc/init.d directory supposing you have a root browser file manager ex. root explorer installed!)
This wont pair a xbox 360 wirelessly with the S3 will it?
Are you talking about using the controller via usb?

Well, it's not working with speedmod kernel too, same respond as siyah. I did try to flash fully rooted stock kernel by ficeto, and it worked great (yeah, the controller lights kept blinkin' like crazy ). Spent some times spraying bullet in Dead Trigger on it Nice work, dude!:good:
Hi all is there a tutorial on how to cross compile and create modules with source?
I remember doing this with my Tab 10.1, and you have to insmod another module called "ff-memless.ko" (get it from droidbasement.com(creditsershoot)) BEFORE you insmod xpad.ko. I ordered my otg cable yesterday from DX for my SGS3 so i wont bother testing it today. Hope it works!
EDIT: WARNING: doing these modifications can/will damage your device. If I'm not mistaken, kernel modules are made specificly for devices/kernels/rom's. I'll await hardcore dev input on this before testing, with perhaps a "spoonfed" step-by-step guide for noobs, like myself, with all/correct files attached and more info on wich kernels/roms are supported. Make a nandroid backup just in case if you're itching to test
hey man, nice thread here, but unfortunately your plugin just wont work on my kernel (3.0.31).
Could you please provide the xpad.ko file for my kernel or just tell me how to compile correctly?
I've searched a lot but hadnt much luck on finding good results -.-
Stock rom rooted, not working here, buddy !
Even with Boeffla kernel not working.
For Perseus 26.1. The LED works fine. If you set the parameter triggers_to_buttons to 1, LT will take the place of LB and RT the place of RB and vice versa.
Someone please continue this i really would love to play with my xbox 360 controller. Im on stock rooted jellybean it says exec format error?

[Q] CM11 on 101G9

Ok, I've had a search and can't find what I'm looking for so maybe someone here can help.
Just installed CM11 on my 101G9, all seems to be ok, BUT I have an aversion to the "cellphone" layout instead of the more "classic" Archos button, status bar, etc, layout.
How do I change things so it's more like the "normal" Archos layout which is easier on my fat fingers (which have trouble getting the status bars at the top of the screen to drop when necessary)?

Hello, i done the same things, and i have too cellphone option ! but most of all, camera doesn't work ! i'm using Archos 101 G9 250 go !
Bugs or not?
I have tried the ROM. It's great! But I have some problems:
- Accelerator, x and y reversed. No way to play a game like Need for Speed.
- / System is ro, can't be remounted to rw. Is there no rw kernel?
Does anyone have these problems too?

Problem with Android Debug Monitor
Hi,
I'd like to post in the thread in the development forum, but I can't because I have too few posts.
My problem is that ADB works without any problem, but the Android Debug Monitor just doesn't work. Stangely, it shows the tablet in the list, but without a name. I already tried to get it to work on linux, but I have the same problem there, either. Is it my or the tablet's fault? I'll attach a screenshot that shows the problem.
By the way, is it normal that there are lots of "ERROR opening temp sensor: No such file or directory" errors in the logcat?

Shame on me... Thanks a lot. The remount-option of my file-manger doesn't work. (Maybe KitKat restrictions). This way is ok. So I'll generate a symbolic link and Adaway works again. Thanks!
And what about this:
- Accelerator, x and y reversed. No way to play a game like Need for Speed.
Does anyone have an idea?

Problem solved:
Switching from CM11 11_05_2014-21_19_00 to build 06_06_2014-21_46_36.
Now it works. Including the camera.
Hardware accelerated video player
Did anybody try stock archos videoplayer with its (paid) hardware decoder on CM11?
I use this device on regular basis as a video player for my children, and there are lots of cartoons that non-hardware-accelerated player does not play.
What bothers me:
1) I suspect that the android 3.0 player with the hardware supprot will not run on 4.* CM. But may be I'm mistaken since there is 4.0.4-based stock rom.
2) The ac3 plugin was sold as an aos-file - what is it and how can I install it in the CM?
So, if anybody tested this and has postive/negative feedback, please share it?
