Best ICS ROM? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There are quite a few ICS Preview ROMs out there in the development subforum. But which one is the best by far? Please give me a link.

Roman's IMO, as it is constantly updated, Links are on the Development section.

Agree. The rest are just builds. Romann's is tweaked. Use the milestone 4 (not build 28) cause it changes your tab's MAC address.

i went to the development section and looked for any thread started by roman. i did not find any, can you give what's the thread name itself or a link? i see many kang there but i dunno if that is it.

You click on a build, and find your device name. Ignorance is bliss.

Hi, thanks for the information. I flashed the milestone-4 ROM as instructed. But I was stucked at the initial setup step, where it says 'Turning on Wi-Fi...'. I tried to hit the Skip button. But nothing happened. It seemed that the whole system was stucked. It's been like that for hours. Now what should I do?

For me aokp gave me glitches in the screscreen the 3/25 cm9 nightly build is running way nicer not all the from control ..

I think you can give it a soft reboot to fix it. Hopefully it shouldn't bootloop

boot into CWM, do a factory reset, clear cache.
Then go to the advanced menu and select "fix permissions". That can help a lot of bugs. If that still doesn't work, I would re-download and flash the rom again. I'm running AOKP CM9 milestone 4 on two different devices just fine.

Thank you guys. I did a hard reset and everything was OK after that.

I just flashed the AOKP Build 28 ICS ROM and so far I really like it compared to the Task V14 ROM that I previously had which random reboots.

What is the difference between roman's AOKP and KANG rom from seraphimserapis?

I'm using Kang and would love to know this also.

Best ICS ROM
Dear,
I am completely newbie for this forum, I have Galaxy Tab 10.1 (3g), I flashed with latest Cyanogenmod 4.0.3 and stuck with camera functionality.
I do not know, whether this suggested ROM works with all functionality.
Very sorry if, I posted at wrong place.

For the love of Jesus and all mankind, learn to read before you post.
It clearly says in the OP, CAMERA DOES NOT WORK, has reading become an optional skill now?

ok i get it now. aokp means android open kang project. the poster's name is romanbb and not roman. also, in this thread nothing was said in the op that camera does not work. the op is asking what is the best ics rom. anyways when i got time i will try this aokp. thanks again.

Bast ICS
Thanks for info, and kind support.

I'm running pershoots and get random closes on flaps and a couple other apps. Also the browser will randomly stop loading pages and needs to be closed then reopened to get working again.
It installed very well but reading the aokp thread there seems to be a fair number of problems with installs that are keeping me from trying it. Are those people just dummies who don't bother tp do full wipes or do things randomly go wrong?

Personally I've had my phone for 3 weeks, I have never seen this problem myself. The best way to diagnose this is getting logcats, dmesgs etc...
Or what exact actions are you taking for this to happen.

just open the market, install some apps then go into my apps and open one of your installed apps' page and scroll up and down, rather quickly for about 5-10 secs. then you get the freeze.

Well, ok, I tried that exact same thing, and I had no issues.
OK, while you are doing this on your phone, start a logcat, and get the output of that until it freezes. That is the best way to figure out what the issue is.
Then pastebin it, and report back with the logs

It's the first thing I did was to try compiling/flashing cwm for sgs2. But it seems a bit tricky. Sgs2 has a totally different way of doing things where the recovery, ramdisk and the kernel are all infused together.
I will keep trying anyway, as I would like to port over twrp, as I did for the hd2 community.
I've only had my device for 3 weeks. So give me time, and I will figure it out.

Right, now I know EXACTLY the problem you have. It doesn't only happen with the market.
Basically, if you wait long enough, the phone reboots and comes into a state where the battery icon comes up with yellow triangle exclamation Mark and thermometer. I thought this was my phone hehe.
Maybe worth looking at a different kernel
I will investigate, and see what I can find

[THEME][ICS]MetroUI/Windows 8 by brobot175

Works on Alpha 2!
Currently being worked on for latest nightly.
THIS IS NOT MY WORK. Just sharing something I found. The site says it should work on all tablets running ICS with CWM.
I've yet to try it due to lack of free time with my TP, but I figured maybe someone else could figure out if it works, since I'm busy.

I tried this a couple days back, I believe I'm the person you are referring to by saying it wasnt working on the Touchpad. I asked the dev and he is looking into it.
I'm trying to fix the installer and I will look into it later today.
I also set up my homescreens, but the thing is that the icons don't align properly and they end up looking bad. I tried it in ADW Ex too as the dev says it works best, but it still didn't work.
Doesn't work with the newest nightly.

So this does work...I just installed it on my touchpad and I was running it with no problem. If you go to the dev's website it tells you to flash your rom again, which wont make you loose any apps, and then flash the first package on the website setup. It will flash and work....now the only problem I have is actually putting the widgets on the homescreen. When I try to move them next to each other horizontally, they overlap :/ But the process on the website does work ^_^

Same here,

It's working. You have to re-install the nightly without any addon before you flash the theme.

Hmm...I'm using a nightly build. I'd have to check which one I'm specifically using when I get home, but I got the error during the initial flash. I then re-flashed the CM9 nightly rom....and then the first zip package for the MetroUI setup. I didn't restart or anything...I did the ROM flash and then the zip flash. I'll take some screen shots as soon as I get home today.
won't work on AOKP milestone 4 and cherrykang, works on the cm9 nightly.
edit: i have managed to work it all out. ADW Ex launcher has a few limitations in that it won't align the tiles perfectly, anybody know how to sort that?
I have a video of the cwm failure. I reflash cm9 then immediately flash the metro Ui then It aborts.

follow instructions on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623840&highlight=patch
Let us know how it goes.
*P.S.* You will NOT be bricked, at most you will just get a bootloop. Mostly likely consequence of doing it and the patch not working is that your home button will be the back, and back will be home, and possibly no signal. But all should be fixed if you follow instructions in that patch thread.
Thanks for the input i will give it a shoot tonight and report any issues

[ROM][4.0.4][Smooth]|l|l|l|l|l|l| Aberration 1.3 |l|l|l|l|l|l|l| 08/25/12

(Click on image above to go to the Aberration website)
This is a continuation of my previous ShishirROM series of ROMS that started out on Gingerbread 2.3.4, and have evolved and expanded to today, where the latest version of ShishirROM is based off of XWLPG 4.0.3. Aberration is built completely independent of those and the only resemblance to my old ROMs is the dialer, which was an original creation anyways, but at it's heart, it's the next step. The ROM focuses on speed and smoothness and battery life. It incorporates common-sense fixes and ground-breaking features as well as third-party applications that bring something new to the table every time you use them. The ROM was inspired by the old Samsung gingerbread ROMS -- they were stable, fast, and just worked. This ROM manages to bring the same sort of feel back to the table while maintaining an updated look similar to the Galaxy S3 series of phones, and Android's resident Holo design. The Aberration Settings application is an extension of this ROM that lets you change some deeper settings, such as using Lidroid's beautiful 14 Notification Widget Mod instead of the default themed widgets, as well as provide an easier way for users to update to the latest version of Aberration, no matter which model of the Galaxy S2 they're running. This ROM aims to be the ONE ROM that supports every Galaxy S2 phone, and brings them on par with the super-phones coming out later this year. It's an update away from giving your phone four cores, two gigs of RAM, and a 4.8" SAMOLED HD display.

I built this ROM directly from XXLPM stock, not ported it from another unrelated device, sorry if that was unclear. The Galaxy S2 i777 and Galaxy S2 i9100 are EXTREMELY alike, so alike in fact that about five files hold the changes between them. No actual porting was done.
And I can't provide a link to the original since I made this, and this is the original lol. It's just a Stock Samsung ROM based off of 4.0.4 LPM with a few tweaks and fixes thrown in.
EDIT: Let me try and be more clear: this ROM was built off of XXLPM. It was initially tested on the i777 because that happens to be the device I have, but the development of the ROM was exactly the same for both versions. The i777 and i9100 versions are very different. Different modems, kernels, libs, etc. This ROM truly was built for both devices in mind, therefore it isn't a port.

What he means is that what special features or original features does the rom have in order for it to stay in the original development for example paranoidandroid, it has the capability of changing per app dpi, from phone ui to a tablet ui etc. Jkay framework which can customize almost everything from the lockscreen to the notification bar. Because if it is just a cooked rom with some features that has been gotten from other devs, it should belong to android development. But i may be wrong, maybe you have something special in the settings you mention on the OP. Good luck on your rom bdw.
Cheers!

Then i choosed to reboot. The screen showed the Siyah logo, then the phone gave me a sound... and then nothing. Black screen. I have tried again and again but the same result. Maybe i am doing something wrong.
Thanks
too much bloatware dude.. maybe make a slim version

Wrong section, Should be in Development, not original development. However can you explain the features of this ROM and perhaps a link to the original.

What kind of a rude person are you ? This is no way to post something on a thread
Anybody else facing this issue. Any suggestions for this issue.
For everyone facing the black screen issue, first make sure you're running the i9100 version, and confirm that you wiped data before installing, then try flashing another i9100 kernel before you boot up for the first time. It sounds like the kernel didn't get flashed for some reason. I'll have to do some more digging. If anyone can grab a logcat then i'd appreciate it, although I don't know if the Log service got started after the Siyah screen.
If it still doesn't work, it may not have gotten installed properly. Try going into mounts/storage in CWM and wipe /system, manually do a factory reset/wipe data, and wipe cache as well. That should get everything.
EDIT: If you're getting the sound after boot, that just means the boot animation isn't showing for some reason. Give it five minutes and see if the phone boots up. If so then I'll upload a fix for this when someone confirms that's the issue.

I don't quite understand what you mean by bloatware, since I allowed you to pick if you wanted to install most of it, and I allowed you to remove bloatware post-install anyways. Can you list some apps that you'd want an option to remove?
