How to make the transition? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys my phone came with XWKL1 and I rooted it with chain fire kernel. I am now currently on official MIUI V4 2.3.16 (flashed via CWM over XWKL1) . There seems to be a bit of FC and sometimes phone is unresponsive. Now I would like to know how can I make transition to another 1. ICS ROM
2. GB rom (like checkrom)?
Also I have downloaded XXLPQ Indian version. How different is it from multi csc version?

Andro-id is customized version of gingerbread 2.3.4 and is better than gingerbread. And it also comes pre-rooted and is more flexible than official gingerberead.
Just flash a froyo rom for your region/area phone from http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-s5570.htm and flash it using odin one package option. If you have installed any custom recovery like CWM recovery, doing so will replace the custom recovery with stock recovery.
I think Andro-id 3.2 is better than gingerbread. but, cm7 is even more better than andro-id. THe diffrence however is cm7 looks and is completeley diffrent from gingerbread but andro-id looks similar and has similar functions to gingerbread... CM7 is very much customizable comes prerooted and can be overclocked.

Cwm for gts5570 currently doesn't support rfs so you can't backup froyo via cwm at the moment . But yiy can find froyo firmware for your region samfirmware.com download from there and flash using Odin. Where are you from? If you wanting will give the link to download froyo for your Tom. Also include the info you get when you dial *#1234#* in your dialer ( ie PDA version and baseband)

my question was if I can backup rom stock, because I would try to flash a custom rom (andro-id)... but if something goes wrong, or that rom doesn't like me, how can I go back to the original one?
Try searching for your rom on samfirmware.com . If you are able to find one you can flash it from odin to go back tp stock rom after upgrading to custom rom....

If you don't find try to google for your roms backup ...

Thanks bro U have a thank you from me
I wait for cyanogen final realease because he is still buggy
and one more question .... When i was on cyanogen mod7 for samsung galaxy mini i saw it uses only 50-60mb ram IS THAT REALLY ??!!!!
The ram consumed depend on how many apps and services you install.. May be a clean and fresh boot uses about 60 mb but when you go on installing apps the size increases.

flashing ROM

hello.
i already root my phone with odin and xw kl1.now a want to install Lite'ning Rom but i cant find one with KL1 firmware base.
if i want to change default ROM i have to search a ROM based on my kernel ( in my case XW KL1 ) ?
thanks
Wrong area, your going to get flamed big time... You can flash any base, Doesnt need to be one that matches your current.. Id recommend backing your default base/ROM up tho.
you can flash any ROM it doesn't have to.match.with what your on just make sure you make a backup before flashing if you get stuck just pm me I'll be happy to help and I'm sure devs and users will help you I'm sure I got the help I needed ..try omega ROM 10.4 I think that's on wkl1 ok good luck

4.0.3
If I flash my S2 with 4.0.3 did it keep arabic caracters, i have now Andoid ver 2.3.4 ??
BB version I9100XXKH3
Ver number
Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3
Tks
omega stock and blue black installed.works fine but no battery saving so far.
is there a top 10 of custom ROM regarding battery saving.i'm not interested in high quadrant score.i'm not using the phone for games.
No. There isn't a 'top 10 of custom rom regarding battery saving'.
For the simple reason that everyone uses their phone differently, everyone has their phone setup differently (apps, etc) and no two phones come out of the factory exactly the same. You won't have the same experience as me if you use the same rom/kernel as me (or anyone else).
Try a bunch of roms until you find one that works well for you.

Must flash with ODIN first? GB to ICS

Hey everyone
A little while ago I jumped on the ICS bandwagon and flashed my villainrom 2.5-toting Optus i9100 to WanamLite 8.9, via CWM Recovery.
its been buggy as hell and the phone has turned to garbage ever since, with random freezing, touch input not responding, et cetera.
my question is - should i have flashed to one of the leaked samsung ICS ROMs via ODIN before updating to wanamlite via CWM Recovery?
i remember back in the SGS days, when moving from 2.1/2.2 to 2.3, you had to flash a generic 2.3 ROM via ODIN before you could flash a custom one. flashing a gingerbread darky's ROM over a froyo custom ROM directly using CWM caused all kinds of problems.
now that the official Samsung XXLPQ ICS is out, i want to flash to a pre-rooted version of it with CF-Root kernel (the ones that wanam himself has uploaded). but should i flash via ODIN to an official ICS first, and then root + flash the wanam custom version, just like i had to do when going from 2.2 to 2.3 on my original SGS?

Sorry for the previous post i clicked it while it ways empty by wrong
Just get ur phone into download mode and flash the stock jpq
After that do wipe cache and factory and ull be good to go
isn't the problem with doing that the fact that the bootloader will be upgraded as well, meaning i can't reset the flash counter with my USB jig anymore?
my question is - should i have flashed to one of the leaked samsung ICS ROMs via ODIN before updating to wanamlite via CWM Recovery?
Not really needed .
But this is what i always do with any major upgrade or new custom rom .
titanium backup and nandroid backup
Wipe.format system data cache .
Install stock rom of same version
Root with CWM and Root kernel.
Flash new rom .
result no problems .
jje
Restore backed up apps .

How I downgrade from ICS to Gingerbread 2.3.5?

Good moring everyone.
I would like to downgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.5 after updating from ICS through Kies couple days ago,As Ice Cream Sandwich is a complete failure on S2 there nothing special,Face-unlock: Too long time before the camera opens., it quicker just unlock with your finger, interface is the same, Battery seem to suck more juice only last day even though i got Genuine Samsung Extended Battery Kit for Galaxy S2 - 2000mAh where GB last 3 day plus dodgey lockscreen and etc the only best bit is in Setting. ICS and Samsung deffo need more work to it.
So would like to no how to go back to GB 2.3.5?

Im using the official Stock ICS that came though Kies
ICS Detail
PDA I9100XXLPQ
phone I9100NELP2
CSC I9100H3GLP2
so i like to retrun GB Official Firmware
It can be done.I had a custom XXLPH 4.0.3 ICS rom that I flashed via odin onto my galaxy S2.
I'm going through the same process now, going back to an original orange stock rom.
I downloaded an integrated package via check fus downloader and tried (as read and advised to load into Odin PDA box, check re- partition, have phone in USB debug mode, download mode on phone and flash.
However be careful as I'm finding out the (compressed / encrypted) ENC2 file that I downloaded is invalid so its causing me problems to install.
However to prove a point downgrading is easy, I have a copy of gingerbread 2.3.5 that is already split into various files to fill in the PHONE, PDA, PIT, CSC boxes in Odin.
This flashed over the ICS no problem.
So hopefully when I manage to download an uncorrupted Orange stock rom I'm sure it will work too!

Here's the answer!!
Is deep sleep? You can check with CPU-Spy. If not, remove the battery a few minutes and then returned.
I put 2.3.5 Orange rom back on temporarily, noticed the battery drain rather quick, don't know why anyone bothers downgrading or putting original stock rom back on their phones.
Changed network anyway to different sim package and I put ICS 4.0.3 UK carphone warehouse on the phone, no bloatware and battery doesn't drain now.
I'm going to stick with 4.0.3
Got roms from here:

stock firmware dzkl3
hi guys i have tried to find stock firmware of i9100g dzkl3 2.3.5 gingerbread here but couldn't found, now running stock ICS and i feel so slow with browsing experience and the background data could not be turn off. ICS consume more battery life compare to GB, now my current specs of ICS is dxlp6 thanks guys
i bought a galaxy s2 I9100 well got a virgin contract, turn it on and found it already had ics on not gb, gave it a try and its got lots of little problems, bbc i player and youtube app wont work because flash player wont fire up, wifi keep going on and off, i see that odin flash seem to be the answer but i cant work out the proper uk gb for my phone. just moved on from x8 and that seemed so much easyer, can anyone help pls
Download latest GB ROM for your phone model/country, do full wipe /factory reset and flash GB via Odin.

first time ihave s2 2 months ago..it comes with ICS.im flashing custom ROM ics for 10 time...my problem is i have an mobile banking app that cant work in ICS.
but few days ago i try to downgrade to GB Checkrom...what..this ROM is much better in compatibility of apps, speed, stability, customization than ICS.
So in my opinion..directly flash Checkrom HD v6 from CWM...its really good
sorry for my bad english
a lot of the apps i use only seem to work on my old x8 on gb not ics and now im finding the same problems with galaxy s2, ics hates bbc iplayer doesnt like some of my hd games only thing thats working well is my fpse so i can play the ps1 games. i love the look of ics but it never wants to get on with me, plus only having this phone less than one day i want to give proper GB firmware a go just had trouble wprking out what one works well on a uk virgin network, think i have found a 2.3.4 that should work
Just check sammobile.com site for latest GB ROM released for your region and all should be fine.

[Q] Q's about installing ROM & Kernel on Player 5.0 INTL

Hi. I wont introduce myself as there is no need for that, i'll just say that i have no how to PROPERLY install a ROM and Kernel on an Android. I know how to do it in Symbian S60V5, but that was ages ago.
I have a Galaxy Player 5.0 International, YPG70-EB confused
I already rooted it, but i dont like the TouchWiz 3.0 at all. I installed a custom TW 4.5, its much better but it crashes often. So i got rid of it.
Anyways, what is a Kernel? Do i need to put a custom Kernel? If yes, before the ROM or after the ROM? Do you install the both via ZIP file in
Android System Recovery (3e) ?
I'm sorry for being a total noob, i already tried this once and i hard bricked my Player. Cost me 20 euros to fix it.

Link for custom ROMs
Go to this link. You can find all the custom ROMs as well as stock ones for the Samsung Galaxy Player. Note that the stock based ROMs are simply modified versions of stock firmware, most have alternate launchers installed. The non-stock based ROMs usually have some problems, so if you want a fully working ROM with cool tweaks, use a stock-based one.
