Where did you get your note and did you have issues with the phone? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I've been seeing a lot of people saying they have been having issues with their phones, others saying that they haven't so I thought maybe a little poll to see where you got your phone and if you've had issues with the phone. These are issues with the phone, not the seller, service or anything like that. Maybe this might shed some light on where the phones came from and if it's a batch issue.
**Update** to clarify what I would consider an issue is something that happens just to your device/small pool of devices that you feel was a manufacture error. This would include poorly built batteries giving bad battery life, supper sensitive or non responding screen to S-pen, phone really slow out of the box (talking unbearably slow, HUGE lagg while using it). This could also be the edge crack seen in some notes. this DOESN'T include an issue seen on ALL phones, such as screen pixelated on low res videos, screen not rotating into landscape on the main screen, low quality DAC to play your hip hop through in your car.
I played with my calculator and came up with some very rudimentary figures given the current poll and total votes. I still can't believe only 33 people bought the note who is on this forum, but live and learn I guess.
total count at the time I did this: 33
Had issues: 9 27%
no issues: 24 73%
Bestbuy percentages: had issues 44%, no issues 56%
AT&T online percentages: had issues 25%, no issues 75%
AT&T in store percentages: had issues 12%, no issues 88%
amazon percentages: had issues 00%, no issues 100%
Other percentages: had issues 29%, no issues 71%
Projected safest place to buy phone compared to locations figures AT&T in store at 21.21%, 88% compared to all devices purchased just at AT&T in stores
I know amazon has a 100% no issues according to my calculations, but that's only because there was only one person who bought it from amazon. If we got more people taking the poll we could probably get a more accurate picture painted of this. But this will have to due.

Just to start us off, I got mine at Sam's Club on the day of the release, have had zero problems related to virtually anything.

Got mine at an attempt store close by. No issues. Everything has run perfectly. I I have a white one and also don't have that micro hair cracked everyone complains of

what do you mean by "issues"?

-First note will shut off by it self
-Second note got a hair crack on it
-And now this third ones very hard to type with the pen because the phone will detect the s pen without even touching the screen.

Best Buy. IMO the best phone customer service. Warranty is better than attention no deductible. Got a free case and screen cover put on the professional way. Only problem I had was impatience for Ics flash error then a trip to the best buy for a swap because I was too lazy to Odin back to stock lol. But exchange went smooth
Lesson learned: be patient

Got mine from AT&T Corporate whore, errr, I mean store. Zero issues or flaws that I can find. Then again, I'm not using an electron microscope, like some others do. You can thank the copious threads by other members who complain about every tiny little flaw, then post super close up pictures of a microscopic flaw.

Sorry for the slow reply, work, then honeydo list and then an unrully freshly neutered cat.
What I mean by issues is anything that you would consider a flaw in the manufacturing of the product such as the cracked white bezel, or a bad battery or the infamous black crush. Basically something went wrong while it was being built causing it to not preform up to what it was designed to do.
My intention of this thread was to build a large enough sample size that we could possibly see trends of where potential issues are coming from and basically if it's a crapshoot if new people will get a bad device.
Also I know there's more than 15 people who's bought the note and use this board. This thread isn't for me, or you, but any future purchasers of the note and maybe even help identify to the existing users if they should expect to see issues. So come on, pipe up in the poll and help everyone out

got mine at best buy 4 days after release, had lag issues(bad camera lag) but a factory reset fixed it.

I'm with you. Got my first Note at Best Buy Mobile. I had previously gotten two other phones with BB (EVO 4G & 3D) with zero issues. My original Note had issues, the biggest one being random reboots. Making a very long story short... after visiting THREE different BB trying to get them to honor AT&Ts 30-day hassle free replacement policy and BB giving me a bunch of lip service and excuses as to why they couldn't/wouldn't do it, I finally contacted AT&T and they did a special arrangement to let me go in to an AT&T Store and get a brand new replacement Note. So far it's between virtually flawless. Don't think I'll be using Best Buy ever again.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note™, an AT&T 4G LTE Smartphone using Tapatalk.

Purchased the 16GB white about a week and half after it came out from an AT&T store and have had no issues with it.

Purchased through at&t online. No issues so far.

AT&T replacement phones! Yes or no!

AT&T warranty replacement phones. Good or bad? I paid full price for my galaxy note. Had it for a month and a half. Still having problems connecting to internet on 4 g it freezes up. Now ATT wants to send me a replacement phone. I told them I do not want a refurbished phone through Assurion. This is not an insurance claim. It's a defective phone. What are the odds of my replacement phone actuay working good or bad? I paid full price for my note though getting a replacement. I am pissed off they will not give me a new phone. Anybody have experience with att replacement phones? They said the phone will not cone from assurion insurance. I'll believe it when I get the box.

I had similar issues with my Skyrocket. Went through 2 in a matter of 2 weeks and it was the update that was being pushed. Refused to take a referb phone because it was not my issue. Not the same as your situation, but still same philosophy. This phone is bad out of the box, and they need to replace it with a new item. This isn't your problem that it's defective, and why take someone else's defective garbage? Just keep talking (calmly) to support and get the local/regional managers involved if necessary. Sometimes, local/regional managers are more accepting and accommodating than corporate phone-jockeys. After the second skyrocket, I was offered any phone (except iPhone) and took the note. Also told NOT to send back skyrocket. So I have 2 great phones that once ICS is done for the skyrocket, it'll be a great unit again.
just my $0.02 worth for what it is.

So should I call back and ask for the head of the warranty dept? Or should I go into a corporate store and let them call and speak to a manager? I really don't want someone else's piece of crap that was already broken and fixed.

Be careful what you ask for. You might just get "old" new one that's been laying around.
On my warrantied Samsung Infuse...it was refurbished..same as new...and it ran MUCH better than my prior Infuse. And it was PERFECT condition and I assume newer parts?
I've been there and could not even tell the difference. My "refurbished" Infuse was perfect and ran better than my original "NEW".
Nothing to sweat over.
I just got mine and it looks brand new but it did say it was seed stock on my invoice

yes it was a white note..My old one's power button was no longer clicking and the bottom half would stick...the new one is great seems just as good as the old one and I'm running FJ's base ICS..I got a 3420 quadrant score
I just got a note replacement yesterday. My old note was a month and a half old and it was having problems charging. I got a refurbished one and it seems to run a lot better than my old one. It was in perfect condition and had the "don't text while driving" screen protector and everything. Even came with the stylus. Now I have two styluses.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
You also have to remember that refurbished doesn't always mean something was wrong with it. It could be that the person returned the phone because they didn't like it and att can't sell as new anymore.
My sister only buys refurbished to save money, and she has had no issues. I had issues with my brand new note and with my atrix last year. It's just a matter of luck. And asurion is not involved with warranty unless the warranty period is over and you have to file an insurance claim.
Edit: like lildoggs said, they also seem to send a stylus. I kept it and they never charged me anything

When people return their phones within the 30 day period and pay the restocking fee...those phones end up being sold as "refurbished" also. So you might get one that is berely used...or "like" new. My brother did that with his sony xperia and it ended up being pretty much brand new condition one. But it says refurbished. Dont quote me on this but most of the time...AT&T sends out great condition refurbished phones. 9 out of 10 people cant tell a refurb from a new phone

Assurion is a really good company. Returned is not bad, in fact a lot of times it can be better than new.
Is 4g and WiFi connection an issue with the note? Thats one of the reasons I am more than likely returning my hoxl.
Are the notes probed to connectivity issues or is this just a typical defective issue?
Sorry for so many questions. I been playing with the note recently and love it.

The only problem is that HTC and T-Mobile messed up in getting sufficient supplies to stores, or on line for that matter.
Nothing wrong with the phone, although a few people have had build issues with a particular phone they received, and have had to exchange them.
That rep needs to be fired.
I work for a store and the only problem is that its such a badass phone its hard to keep up with demand
I can sort of confirm this. I was talking to a employee the other day, and he has said that many stores , especially in low volume areas, have had their expected stock reduced to keep up with online demand. Don't know if he's telling the truth, but I heard much of the same - they won't get the same numbers they were expected to have until late next week.
Spoke to a HTC rep. There was an issue acquiring the proper supplies for the front facing camera. It caused the delay and low stocks.
Only 2 stores receieved it in my district in LA with my store not being one of them. My store will be first up to get the S4 on launch date while some other stores won't. There have been weird issues with inventory.

Refurbished phones

What happens if you tell Verizon your s4 is messing up so they send you a refurbished s4 and you don't send your original back and keep both? Will they charge your account? Couldn't someone say they mailed it so it must have gotten lost or stolen in the mail? I'm just wondering out of total curiosity.

I think people are scared of refurbished items because they think they are getting something that is broken. In my opinion the odds of having something wrong with a refurbished product are the same as if not better than one from the factory. They do try to fix the problems and usually go through a more thorough testing process.

Samsung made something along those lines and it never got any real traction. The thing about the iPod touch is that it was successful because of it's coming off of the success of the iPod and when it first released it was an option for people who could not afford an iPhone or were on a different carrier that the iPhone (remember the subsidized iPhone was originally crazy expensive.) The iPod's sales are dropping more and more every day and i think the majority of their sales are for kids that are too young to have a phone. There are a couple of things to consider as well. 1. The age for getting a cell phone is dropping lower and lower. 2. Android tablets can be acquired in the same price range as an iPod touch. I think those 2 things are making the iPod and iPod touch lines rush towards a day when they are no longer produced and it is not really worth it to push a new product in a decaying market segment.
Makes sense. They would have to retail for maybe $125 to$150...not going to get the latest SOC for that...plus there are millions of used phones that can be used this way.

Refurbished phones are a 50/50 shot either the work or don't. I just replaced the same phone(galaxy s relay 4g) for times in a week. Each one had a different problem. Finally after the fourth one being bad they decided to send me a brand new one for replacement. This also happened with a nexus 4 I returned it would not get data at all no matter what, the rep troubleshot it with me and she said I have a rooted phone. I told her I just got it with in a week so they sent me a brand new one to ensure I got a pure stock unaltered device.

While I too want a One over the S4 and have personally had to send at least 3 or 4 different Samsung devices (and I'm talking different products not just different units) in for repair, you will find people who will swear they have had similar issues with having to send in multiple HTC phones. I personally think HTC has better build quality and not just the fact that the One is made out of metal but your mileage may vary.

Sprint Galaxy Note 3 discussion (Info, accessories, colors)

Folks who are getting the Galaxy Note 3 on Sprint who aren't being scared off by the FUD being spread in the triband thread, here's our own discussion topic!
Now that Sprint has officially announced the Galaxy Note 3 launch on October 4, let us discuss! It's kind of strange they haven't set up pre-orders yet. This leads me to believe they probably won't. With a little over a week left until the launch, it appears that those who order online won't be able to get it until October 7th/8th. Also heard rumors that Sprint won't have the pink option or 64GB version available. It sucks but oh well. At least 32GB is the base model this year!
What color are you getting?
Are you getting the Galaxy Gear smartwatch too?
Accessories?
-I'll be getting black, since white has LED light bleed.
-No Galaxy Gear
-I have two bumper cases (clear and white/black) and a crappy S-style tpu kickstand case with a few screen protectors. I'm not sure If I will get the flip cover yet.
Are you guys excited? I sure am!

I bought my SGII Epic 4G Touch through them back in 2011. I bought it for the same price as directly from Sprint while convincing them to give me a discount equal to the activation fee (~$36) - essentially to "waive" it. I also accumulated some best buy reward zone points
Best Buy is a fine option when purchasing on contract if you can find a deal. I'd probably look elsewhere for off-contract and full-retail purchases, though.

I have been doing a time analysis of how (email, calendar, social media, video's & gaming, music) and where (location) I use my phone the most etc..
I have come to the conclusion that the places where I happen to use my phone the most and during its most intense use of bandwidth also happens to be the places in which I have access to great wifi signal. I know this isn't how most folks use their phones but its really how I use my phone and when I don't usually have a great signal. I just pop out my mifi and I am having a great signal once again. Is it irritating that Sprint dropped the triband? Yup and Yup. Is it a deal breaker for me to go to a slower and smaller phone? Nope and Nope..
The things that I am more interested in hearing about is
What Dac are they using for the audio processor?
Can I use usb 3 as a digital for my audio amp?
What will the transfer speed be on my USB3 HD which is running a 500gb SSD
Battery life
Has anyone been able to use a 128GB sd card in the unit, and have it recognize all 128GB?
What screen protector works best in direct sunlight.
I wonder how the charging port lines up compared to the Note II. Hoping I can still use my Note II car cradle and charger

The Note 3 for Sprint will be a world phone. Love it!
So after 3 years and 4 months since I've owned Sprint 4g phones, a new tower in the area went live with LTE. Here's to hoping it doesn't take another 3 years for the tower near my home to be upgraded. I'm ready for my Note III....

Damn for real? Best Buy has as reputation for marking up the retail price quite a bit though

just so you know. I havn't had a problem with best buy increasing price for products but if that is the case, they price match with the carriers. they also give you the lower price for pre-orders. for example if you order an item and its fairly certain it will retail for say $50 and then release rolls up and it is $60 they will sell it to you for the $50. you may just have to mention it to the employee checking you out but the managers know whats up.
Can't link to BB price match due to new user =) but google "Best buy price match" and it will be the first link
I have had to mention the PM once and the employee just had to get the manager to sign off on it which he had absolutely no prob doing. took maybe 2 min after I had mentioned it. then the lady behind me did the same thing because she was there for the same product for her son I would assume. Yes all the GN3's have CDMA, GSM, and LTE from what I know of.

I contacted the owner "Corey" from Trim Leather.
And he says he will have a line of cases out within 2 weeks for the Galaxy Note 3.
I know someone who has an Iphone case and the work is pretty awesome.
This will be my case for the GN3.
I have linked his page to the below.

With the new one up program, if i am eligible for a upgrade, do i have to trade in my phone.? Id like to keep it for my daughter. Also what exactly do you pay for when doing this? Any money up front? I appreciate any advice or insight

Cracked screen and other issues

Ok guys, the nightmare came true and I dropped my phone just a couple of days after getting it. Didn't have a case and cracks the top right hand corner of the screen, which doesn't affect it's usability or the touch screen. It's relatively minor but it still totally bothers me.
I also have been having overheating problems and massive battery drain. Despite my efforts to get to the bottom of it, nothing has really worked...
So my question is, do you think I will have a problem getting another handset in the Sprint store since I already dropped it? Anyone know their policy on replacing a damaged phone yet for reasons besides that... I am still within my two weeks of getting this phone and my new plan. Any insight?

In my experience with my local store, they will say that the dropping of the phone lead to the cracking of the screen as well as the internal effects you are having with it. They look for anything to get out of exchanging a handset at my local sprint shop.
I once took them an s3 that was having software issues, even after many factory resets. Instead of going ahead and replacing my device, with Mt insurance, she took the phone apart to look for water damage. The outside indicator was not showing water damage but the inside indicator was. So she said we had to file a claim. I argued with her about it, because that phone had never been dropped in water. Why would the outside indicator not show water damage but the inside show some? Anyway sprint did it right with the issue, but I'm just saying, they look for any reason not to exchange your device at no cost.

The exact same thing happened to me when I had a two-month old GS2 and I brought it into a Sprint store and asked what my options were. The nice lady behind the counter said that while technically she shouldn't help me she would be willing to swap out phones gratis. The only catch was that the new phone would be refurbished. So I went home and backed up everything and performed a factory reset. And when I returned I was able to swap out phones hassle-free. She even correctly guessed upon examination that my phone was rooted and didn't care. The refurbished phone looked brand new; the only way to tell it was refurbished was the internal flag which I checked out of curiosity. I kept the battery from the original phone; otherwise it was truly a fabulous experience.
That all said, I have a feeling that this was a rather unique set of circumstances and I really don't know what they'll say about a two-week old LG G3. I strongly suspect you're going to have more trouble than I did.
Best of luck!

im assuming you dont have insurance? idk about you guys but with framily plan i pay 50 bucks a month with unlimited and insurance. good deal. anyway YEA the same thing happened to me with my evo 3d i dropped it and my phone went crazy i couldnt mount it and it was rooted they swapped it out in the store anyway. I hear a lot of stories about bad experiences so i feel lucky to have a good store to go to. But its sure worth a try. are you doing the easy pay? a lot of times they will fix the screen for free if you are.
Sprint has always been good to me about fixing/replacing devices. I cracked my screen on a Galaxy Nexus, I took it in to the local store and they told me to come back in an hour. When i came back i was treated to a brand new screen at no additional cost. I'm just speaking for myself of course, im not saying they WONT charge you, but their customer service in my experience is very good.

I've had similar good experiences with a Sprint authorized repair center in my area but after they closed and I had to deal with a corporate store the service level dropped to what many others describe as horrible.
I guess it depends on where you end up taking the phone but I would try and stay away from corporate locations...

It's funny that this is the case, because I find the same thing here in my area. While I was with Big Red, you NEVER wanted to go anywhere but a corporate store because you would get horrible service (in THIS area), with Sprint is the absolute exact opposite, I will never go into a corporate store unless I am specifically instructed that I have to for whatever I am trying to get done. The customer service is at least here, horrible in comparison. I am actually stressin myself because my phone has started (of course on the 14th day!) to lock up every hour or so and I can't use the screen. It requires a battery pull. Everyday this phone starts to worry me a little more.

I didn't have mine on, but its a different way android handles applications on the phone. Will be the "standard" once all the bugs are worked out.
Also dropped my two-week old G3 and cracked it. LG opened an RA but no details on costs - alluded that maybe it would be free but nothing firm. :/
The ubreakifix teardown doesn't get to the screen, nor does the YouTube teardown I found. I'll assume the glass and digitizer are adhered together though; which I don't want to mess with.

Will you keep us updated? I want to know how it goes... Especially if the fix is easy and/or LG is willing to do it for free... Some reports are saying repairs are going to be very simple because of the design, but nothing spoke of the screen.
Also, where did you go to open an RA with LG? Do they give you a quote prior to working on it? I'm interested to see what I can do...
LG quoted me $154 to repair the screen. I'm not ready to take that plunge although it's in line with what I'm seeing for similar device repairs.
You can open an RA request from their support section at LG.com - I chatted with someone who opened it for me.
Just picked up my LG G3 yesterday, got 3 cases coming that should be here tomorrow (Thurs) & can't wait, phone fell out of my shirt pocket twice now but luckily I was bent over a clean basket of laundry lol. But I've been reading sprint is going to drop their prices, I got mine at bestbuy & hopefully if my bill drops by $10 I'll go ahead & get the insurance for $10 a month.
I've had very good luck at my local Sprint store. They've replaced are some questionably broken phones for $50.
As far as the screen cracking goes, I just bought an $8 iCarez tempered glass screen protector off of Amazon and it seems great so far. Easy to install and allegedly very impact resistant. I'm not willing to test out this claim quite yet ?
