Xperia S... Poorest battery life in a phone ever. - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Is it just me or is this phone the phone with the worst battery life ever seen on any device.
Seeing gingerbread on this phone is already annoying enough but the battery life is completely useless.
Considering that it has sealed in battery, we're truly stuffed. Can't understand it at all. Don't they test these phones.
I went to bed last night with the battery at 98% and woke up to find it this morning at 63%. Just ridiculous.
And like I said nothing can be done about it,

It's just you
what firmware are you running? how long have you had the phone? If you are at .73 you should have no problems, even at update .67 its not too bad, so it's you... unless you sleep for 2 days .
Also, there's also a battery thread, which isn't even on the second page of this section yet. Or did you make this just to start a whine
thread?
Edit: Actually, its on the second page now, my bad

I'm on stock Rom the battery is pants, however I have used my desire charger, full charge from 40 percent in 15 mins, so it may be pants but it's ok ics should improve things

Did you get out of bed at 5pm? Check your installed apps and you definitely need to read the battery thread to see what every1 is experiencing with the latest firmware etc.

I recall there is a battery thread. Do we need another one?

i tested mine last night.
Over night with WIFI on, Network ON it eat just 9% of battery.
Also you got rapid charge, they give this to us with a reason.

Hope moderators will merge the thread with the other one
I am running .73 firmaware & have no battery problem.. 16-17 hours with heavy use is more than enough when everything is on auto update.. In my sleep time, battery goes down just 3-4%.

.73 Firmware says otherwise

same here after update (.73) it lasted more than 8hrs (heavy usage). 7:00am unplugged and came back home around 7:00pm with 20% left. Standby during sleeping now takes around 3-4% in sleep mode compare to 30-35% on firmware .63 or .62 (i forgot)

4 days here and still 23percent left...

I know battery suck on .67. Even my Arc did better. But don't you cry, be optimistic, the Xperia S in still in development, and still needs to optimized by Sony. And in the future it does! Then post yourself a happy smile ok?

On .73 it's lasting longer than my Arc did, with even more background synch events.

The Xperia Ray had a awesome battery, on that note
Firmware does improve battery, gingerbread did wonders for the X10, but like everyone said the latest firmware does fix the battery, I had to charge midday when I first got my XS because the battery would drop very quick with heavy usage and half a day with moderate use, now it's last all day till bed time, thou it still can be improved.

Battery Life

After I updated to Nordic 2.1 and used v002 optimizer, I noticed I was getting awesome battery life. For the past few days I've used my phone minimally with sim card in, GV on, etc, but with minimal use to see just how good the battery life is now. Before, with 1.6, I was getting 2 days absolute maximum, even with minimal usage. Now I've gotten this: http://imgur.com/xNjaz.jpg (with 10% battery remaining).
Anyone else gotten better or comparable results? Personally, I think this is excellent, especially compared to having to charge nightly with 1.6 when I actually put it to some use. I think I could do some browsing, texting, calling, and stuff and not have to worry that if I forget to charge one night, it would die early on the next day now.

Flashed the Nordic 2.1 rom and ran optimizer v002 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829660).
Ive noticed my battery is better too, I use mine quite heavily, take it off charge about 8am and would top up the charge about 2pm. This last week ive not needed to top up the charge, the other day I got home from work with 71% left, which for me was amazing!
It seems they changed the standby power consumption.

If you are like me that are playing around with root and cusrom rom
If I start playing with it at 14.00 hours my battery goes dead in about 4-5 hours :-(
But for everyday use my sensation hold for Max one day ;-)

Then check what is eating the battery, because that's not normal.

If you can't find what app is causing drain, do a clean fresh install and see how it goes on stock.
If stock goes ok, then your phone(from hardware side) is ok.

Guys, it's because you've probably spent every millisecond that your eye lids were parted from each other playing around with new features, thus using the phone more often now than you probably were prior to the ICS update........ Oh wait, sorry that was an evaluation of my own battery issue.
Strange hearing this. I was more than a month on ICS china leak and battery was great. Now i went back to oficial 2.36 due to waiting for genuine ICS and bat life is terrible. Clean system, no apps installed, no play, just couple of calls and emails, phone didnt last 14 hours. Where is this ics!

You're probably for the most part right, but I still think my battery life on ICS is less than GB. I managed to use up the entire battery in less than a day, on my first day with ICS. This is something that never happened with GB, even on the first day I got my Maxx. My battery usage doesn't show anything unusual. 60% of it was used by the screen (auto brightness).
NOt sure what builds we are talking about but here are my stats using the baddass battery monitor.
OTA GB (.181) = 2days average battery life
.79 Moto leak = 1 day average battery life
So in reality my battery lif is half what it used to be, with the Android OS using about 20%.
Here's to hoping the ICS OTA update is better than the 4.0.3 .79 build.

I'm on the OTA, and the Android OS is using 10%.
I'm rooted on the .211 leak and noticed a considerable drop in battery life when I first flashed. I did some digging using the 'badass battery' app and found that winamp had been draining my battery for some reason. After uninstalling winamp my battery life immediately returned to normal. I highly suggest getting that app and looking at the 'app sucker' breakdown to see which apps are using the most battery as opposed to androids stock usage breakdown.

Well actually, this is kind of scary. I got off work at 6 am this morning, came up and went to sleep somewhere between 7:30 and 8 am. I woke up around 3 pm and my batter was left charging via usb from the computer with about 80% battery THEN. So I woke up at 3 pm and my battery was COMPLETELY DEAD. I had to plug it up to a power outlet. I understand that, but what I DON'T understand is how in the heck did the battery die in the FIRST place when all it was doing while I slept is being charged from my computer (which I ALWAYS do) and was already at 80% when it was plugged up?

I have the same issue. I fully charge my phone every night. I drive a truck for UPS so I don't look at my phone too often throughout the day. By end of day, I have about 30% battery left and over 70% of it has been consumed by the screen!?
Also, I have noticed the battery takes MUCH longer to charge. Usually, when I had GB, I would get home from work, usually with about 60% battery left. I would plug it in and go take a shower. When I got out, it would be fully charged. About 30 minutes. NOW, I get home with a 30% battery and 30 minutes of charging gets me up to about 45% battery. I don't get it. Is there anyway to go back to GB?
My issue was, I was rooted on GB and I could NOT update to 4.0.4. It would download, get about 1/4 way installed and fail. I unrooted the phone and got the same results. Used rootkeeper etc. So I had to sideload the OEM ICS from Verizon. Nothing but horrible battery life ever since.
Some people are having battery issues, but it's not a universal thing. I'm getting great battery life. I was about a day and a half with moderate use on my Maxx and was down to 60%.
People having these issues, I'd look at all your installed apps and maybe you guys can find a commonality. It's a known issue that Facebook's apps is a battery killer, maybe others are under ICS.
Try epsilon V2.
My battery life is pretty bad. It was bad on stock and still not any better with eclipse. It dies after about 6 hours and I only use it for 5 minutes every hour in that time. I even exit apps before putting it in my pocket. Badass battery and stock battery app both give similar info. The screen accounts for 70% or more even though its only on for a total of 30 minutes in those 6 hours. Charging is also incredibly slow. With gingerbread it would last for 8+ hours and usually only be at 30-40% by then.

[HELP] Battery Issue When Phone Is Turned On After Recharged

Hello! I've been using smartphone for the part two years and I had started with Xperia X8 which doesn't seems have a good battery life and change to Samsung Young. Last month, I decided to go back to Sony and purchased Xperia Ray. I must say it amazed me for it's standard and good battery life, but the past few days I had trouble with it's battery.
Every night before I went to bed, I would often let my Ray charged until the next morning. As usual, I would wake up and go to school with my phone turned off throughout the school session. When I got home, as I turned my phone on, I noticed that my battery has sucked up to 80%, which I am totally aware that I had charged my phone to 100% before, and I charged it when the phone is off.
As for my typical use, I tend to have moderate usage on the internet using the data connection as my phone cannot connect to the WEP wireless in my home. As for game, I could say I spent 2 hours per day. I rarely use my phone for SMS or call. And the phone sometimes gets very warm too.
As for other program that I use, I only have GO Launcher. I also have problem where my display is constantly on 80%> even I had disable most display setting. I will post screenshots later for your better understanding.

Hmm... Battery discharging even when phone is off.... Do one thing. .. Recharge the phone full and remove the battery for couple of hours out of the phone.... Then put the battery back in and see the %... If it's again low , then you might want to replace it with a new one... If it's 98-96% then this means your phone is eating battery even when switched off ( which is not possible ) ... Alternatively you can run battery health test by antutu..

Just read this and thanks for your suggestion. I will check upon this method first. As for the antutu app, I will get the battery tested after your first suggestion. FYI, on other app "Battery Monitor Widget" it stated that my Li-Po are in good state cut there's no harm in trying.
Maybe you should charge your phone up to 100% then wipe your battery stats in cmw.

First charge your battery 100% then enter to CWM and Wipe battery stats.
If it wouldn't solved, just flash and use an another rom.

Well, you are right. The battery and the phone are not the problem. I've charged it to 100% and unplugged its battery for 5 hours and when I plugged it in, it still 100%. But still, the battery indicated that it reached 88% after 25 minutes. It's quite bugging me because I noticed that my usual usage to 90% practically takes 30 minutes. Haven't use antutu yet though as I don't know how it actually worked.
tags23 & bandarigoda123
I don't think that wiping the battery status won't change a thing but it might calibrated its stats. I think I won't be requiring those as when I flashed my phone a week after I bought it, the battery stats are still relatively same.
I'm still open for any suggestion as I still think that my last resort would be factory reset the phone.
Just dial this

[Q] Help:Battery Drop after updated to .402?

So last night i plugged in my z2 to my laptop and download the update 402 via sony pc companion. I left it overnight and this morning when it finished updated, i switched on the phone it was at 99%.
After a few mins i look back, it dropped to 74%!
Has anyone experiencing the same issue? is this normal? is this update bad for the battery?
anyway i did a factory reset, it was still new anyway so not much things on it yet.
ps, i did not lose my X-reality.Its still there
I feel the new Rom takes a bit time to settle.Give it a day or so and then try to troubleshoot.
Sent From My Sony Xperia Z2 D6502 White
Before the update, i got ~6.2 hours SOT per charge.
Now only 4-5 hours.
I'm vastly disappoint son.
Actually one of the things I noticed early on was the biggest battery consumption compared to .55 and .69! I have just remove the device from the charger and with a bit of use, then it goes to 97%!
This is really scaring me! In FW .55 and .69 was very time to see the percentage going down!
See what its like after a weeks use and the battery is properly calibrated.
I bet you will be seeing similar results to the earlier firmware

There is that right?
There is that possibility?
Why older versions did not have this time?
thanks guys for your input. Yeah i think its too early to tell on the battery consumption yet. I will observe it for a week or two and tell again
Most likely when you flash the update, the battery stats reset with other parameters, let it settle for few charges and see if it calibrates.
And check that your phone can enter Deep Sleep (CPU Spy from Play Store or similar). Could be that the update screwed that up.

It would be good to let my battery run out completely and then charge 100% or is not recommended to do this? I know that this type of technology can not do this, but only in this case!
EDIT:
Yesterday I was using the phone and noticed that when the battery reached 60% it took longer to get down the percentage! So I was using the device and the percentage reached 29%, so I put it to charge all night. This morning I noticed a significant improvement, so much that I am using lot and is still at 97%! What leads me to believe that what user said above is true!

It's always like that, any phones after install new ROM(custom or official), it will take couple cycles of recharge to settle down the battery.
Well after 2 days I would say that this firmware drains battery much faster I've gone back to previous firmware version and getting much better battery results so I'll stick with this for now I think
