Samsung wont bloody update! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've waited for months and months for the new ICS update. And now its here I can't bloody get it. I dont feel comfortable doing the update via flashing but rather wait for the official.
When I open samsung kies on my desktop it says that i'm on the latest version!
All my friends have upgraded via Kies or manually through the phone but why is my phone different!
I'm on vodafone contract
please someone shed some light on this.
I have searched these forums but can't seem to find anyone with the same problems.

You have an unbranded handset, ics hasn't been released for unbranded handsets. Being on Vodafone doesn't mean you have a Vodafone branded phone.

In this form this is definitely not true because my unbranded phone with stock rom+no root had already been updated weeks ago to ICS by KIES.
What is said above may still be true for your country, that is what you should check first.

Thank for the link, I think I'll just wait it out
shame really that i'm getting penalised for having a sim free phone.
to harise100.. yes it probably would be easier to download a firmware and just flash. But like is said I don't feel comfortable and I probably would be the only person to brick the Samsung galaxy s2!

Yeah I don't think there is an unbranded UK ICS rom for SG2 just yet.. take the plunge and flash that **** up. You'll never look back!

Once you flash you never go back mate!
Just flashed mine with a custom rom and its a brand new world for me.
Just make sure you do your reading before you do anything so as to avoid any bad surprises.

How long do you guys think jellybean will take?

I am thinking about another 3 days, setting as how I already have a fully functional jellybean running on my xoom (google now with voice is oh so sexy) and I saw where the iconia got it, so surely we will be on this track soon, right?
P.S. I am not trying to start a "dev where is our jellybean?!" Thread, I honestly want to hear your guys' opinions on how long it will take?

This being the market leading device at the moment, I would say it won't take long for the XDA community to come up with something, though for a stock ROM from Samsung (and then the carrier's fooling around with said ROM) your guess is as good as mine.

I hear you. I'm playing it safe for the time being, just kind of watching the development. Probably going to root in a month or so, I'm sure it won't take long. The device with its stock ROM is already ridiculously smooth, butter it up and... well it will be as smooth as butter.

UK Rom

Hi guys. Just picked up my sgs3 yesterday coming from s2.
I got it from t-mobile store. I think it's unbranded. Not seen anything t-mobile related.
I updated firmware via kies yesterday as there was an update available.
Is this the latest firmware for unbranded phones in UK via official channels ?
Also. Are the stock roms on here a massive improvement or are they buggy?
Cheers

If you got it from a t-mobile store, it will be t-mobile branded. Phones from phones4u and carphone warehouse are unbranded
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Thats what I would expect, however there are no T-Mobile apps, no t-mobile logo in boot animation. To clarify when I say T-Mobile store, it was one of those Everything Everywhere T-Mobile/Orange stores, I believe all stores will be that soon?
Lfb is the latest European firmware. Easy to spot because it has a brightness slider in the notification tray.
The firmware has only been released a couple of days now so you might not get it straight away. Plenty of ways to download it here on xda though.

Hmmm ... don't know about that one. They should both be subdirectories of the phone itself ... not drive letters as the phone uses mtp not traditional mass storage.
By the way are you flashing with Odin?

Probably on the same day to mess with Apple.
Not sure about that, surely Samsung need something to entice buyers then a bigger screen
It wasn't lg9, not sure what changed. I had to reset the phone to clear out the clipboard cache causing the cut and paste to not work. The are a lot off people on other boards complaining of the cut and later issue too.
Anyway, the update was about 94MB and I'm still at lg8.

It means their is no update for your phone yet .You can ask your phone provider or Samsung why not .
Join XDA Developers and update to a later stock rom is the answer .

Wrong. They never said August. They said end of 3 quarter. Which means August or September.
But people only hear what they WANT to hear and when someone says August/September they only hear August because that's what they want to be true!
is it region specific ? what region are you in ?

Is it safe to update OTA if I modded some files like unlock/lock sound? Or should I revert everything back to stock before update?
^^ almost same question.
Is it safe to update if i modded files like the standby cell fix and installed Google Now, and rooted the phone ?
Should I be glad?
I reported the cell radio thing to Samsung Sweden and they said a fix would come in a few days.

I got an OTA update message today. I updated but what's new?

I'm just trying to find the new stuff that came with the update.
I got an OTA (over the Air) update message on my galaxy s3.
I updated with KIES and rerooted.
Then i noticed a few thing had changed.
(I posted here asking about it but the thread got a bit hijacked because i named the firmware incorrectly in the title and can't change it)
What are the changes in the new Galaxy S3 Firmware Update? (the update that has happened today 09 august 2012? UK)
so far i found a couple of bits
back forward buttons on browser
holding power key gives a vibrate mute etc option
is there a list of the changes somewhere
also phuoa posted a change i hadn't noticed

This update was released weeks ago for some of us search and you will find the posts about it
you have had this question answered already in the post you previously made.....the update today is a modem change for uk users of carrier unlocked devices, as clearly stated on samfirmware.com....which part of that don't you understand?!
You tell us you got an ota and no other information than that.
What is the firmware version, baseband, kernel etc.
Actually, never mind.....

Been Deployed, need help on root and update

Howdy all. Been a long time since I have been on here. I have been Deployed with the military for a few months. I haven't don't the latest update. In fear of messing my phone up while in some god forsaken country. Lol. I was wanting some advice on what I should do. I wanna keep my root, that's for sure. Any suggestions and help is greatly appreciated.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
Depends on what version you're on and even then that's not much of a big deal if you're already rooted.
You can simply make a backup in recovery and flash a newer rom. If for some reason something goes wrong it's as simple as restoring your backup.
What may get a little tricky is whether or not you need to flash an updated radio. That depends on what version you're on now.
In your shoes, I'd go ahead and make a backup of your current rom, flash a newer rom and then see how that runs. If you don't have service/data then look into flashing a newer radio.

Did you just gain root, or did you unlock the bootloader with casual? If you used casual you can flash a newer rom.

There is a very simple root process for any version of the I605. I have had this kraken since it released and done every update then rooted not too far after. Just do some reading on what build you would prefer. In my opinion I would update to the latest then root but that's just one dude. Best of luck and kcco

I just have root access. I ha e had it since about April or so. I didn't even know the bootloader was unlocked. Sweet. I had the OG Droid and then the Bionic when it came out till this dream came out. I loved having the bootloader unlocked on my OG Droid.
I guess I better start reading up on new ROMs. Lol. Anyone have any preferences. I used liquids on my other phones and a couple others. I tried the slim ROMs and didn't care to much for them.
