UK Rom - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. Just picked up my sgs3 yesterday coming from s2.
I got it from t-mobile store. I think it's unbranded. Not seen anything t-mobile related.
I updated firmware via kies yesterday as there was an update available.
Is this the latest firmware for unbranded phones in UK via official channels ?
Also. Are the stock roms on here a massive improvement or are they buggy?
Cheers

If you got it from a t-mobile store, it will be t-mobile branded. Phones from phones4u and carphone warehouse are unbranded
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Thats what I would expect, however there are no T-Mobile apps, no t-mobile logo in boot animation. To clarify when I say T-Mobile store, it was one of those Everything Everywhere T-Mobile/Orange stores, I believe all stores will be that soon?

Lfb is the latest European firmware. Easy to spot because it has a brightness slider in the notification tray.
The firmware has only been released a couple of days now so you might not get it straight away. Plenty of ways to download it here on xda though.

Also picked mine from t-mobile with no visible branding but it turned out to use a t-mobile branded firmware. Type *#1234# and tell us what your CSC is.

I got mine from tmobile store as well, you are right, it seems unbranded, i thk network didn't have time to brand the firmware, however the firmware you have is for tmuk (tmobile uk). Tell you what i did mate, rooted mine then went to samfirmware and downloaded and installed the latest uk unbranded firmware which i believe was listed under btmobile. Good luck, ta
P.s i am new at this, correct me if i m wrong

No it's not the latest Samsung update but it's the latest from tmobile/orange, they are about a month behind the latest Samsung release.
As said about flash the latest official rom from Samsung and you will always be instantly upto date.

Cheers for the clarification guys. Gonna flash the latest rom shortly, to confirm is this : I9300XXBLFB ?

Restart the computer, also make sure you are using the usb lead which came with the phone. My laptop flat out refuses to acknowledge the phone if I use the wrong lead.

Hmmm ... don't know about that one. They should both be subdirectories of the phone itself ... not drive letters as the phone uses mtp not traditional mass storage.
By the way are you flashing with Odin?

Just flashed the latest stock via odin and voila card and phone have appeared, not sure maybe a bug on previous rom, either way, im happy now, thanks for responding.

This should be in question forum
Guys this should be in the Q&A threat, not in general...

I'm not sure what you are getting at mate. This is in q&a.
Not that it matters the thread is done. Thanks for your useful contribution.

Samsung wont bloody update!

I've waited for months and months for the new ICS update. And now its here I can't bloody get it. I dont feel comfortable doing the update via flashing but rather wait for the official.
When I open samsung kies on my desktop it says that i'm on the latest version!
All my friends have upgraded via Kies or manually through the phone but why is my phone different!
I'm on vodafone contract
please someone shed some light on this.
I have searched these forums but can't seem to find anyone with the same problems.

You have an unbranded handset, ics hasn't been released for unbranded handsets. Being on Vodafone doesn't mean you have a Vodafone branded phone.

In this form this is definitely not true because my unbranded phone with stock rom+no root had already been updated weeks ago to ICS by KIES.
What is said above may still be true for your country, that is what you should check first.

Thank for the link, I think I'll just wait it out
shame really that i'm getting penalised for having a sim free phone.
to harise100.. yes it probably would be easier to download a firmware and just flash. But like is said I don't feel comfortable and I probably would be the only person to brick the Samsung galaxy s2!

Yeah I don't think there is an unbranded UK ICS rom for SG2 just yet.. take the plunge and flash that **** up. You'll never look back!
Once you flash you never go back mate!
Just flashed mine with a custom rom and its a brand new world for me.
Just make sure you do your reading before you do anything so as to avoid any bad surprises.

I got an OTA update message today. I updated but what's new?

I'm just trying to find the new stuff that came with the update.
I got an OTA (over the Air) update message on my galaxy s3.
I updated with KIES and rerooted.
Then i noticed a few thing had changed.
(I posted here asking about it but the thread got a bit hijacked because i named the firmware incorrectly in the title and can't change it)
What are the changes in the new Galaxy S3 Firmware Update? (the update that has happened today 09 august 2012? UK)
so far i found a couple of bits
back forward buttons on browser
holding power key gives a vibrate mute etc option
is there a list of the changes somewhere
also phuoa posted a change i hadn't noticed

This update was released weeks ago for some of us search and you will find the posts about it
you have had this question answered already in the post you previously made.....the update today is a modem change for uk users of carrier unlocked devices, as clearly stated on samfirmware.com....which part of that don't you understand?!
You tell us you got an ota and no other information than that.
What is the firmware version, baseband, kernel etc.
Actually, never mind.....

what are the best search terms for information on the changes this update has?
The OTA update was a modem update only to LH1 for the international S3. This update was to fix battery issues.

[Q] Verizon model firmware issues with used phone

I appreciate all of your assistance in advance... I have searched and can't find any topics on this issues yet.

Can I root and then upload a standard Firmware to the phone? I can't take this phone back to Verizon since I didn't buy it from them. Everything on the phone works just fine, but i keep getting this to pop up over and over
which is tied to this (demo main button that give me no option to forceclose or uninstall)
and VZW demo in lower right

I will look up odin (or if you have a link to it that would be awesome!!) .. to be honest I rooted my old Bionic when I first got it almost 2 years ago, but I haven't done a ROM swap before.
When I do a Rom file does that also update the firmware?
Found the Odin link

Does anyone have any experiences yet? My KitKat update was not very good, until I did a factory reset. Now, it is the most incredibly reliable, fast, good battery phone ever. I am hoping this update doesn't mess that up, as it's my primary work phone.
It keeps prompting me to update, but I am waiting to see how it goes. Can't resist much longer...

That says certification. What am I missing?

I got it this morning 5-17-2014 by manually checking for an update. It requires a wifi connection to download. Seems smoother, but as to battery life it seems about the same.

That's bizarre my wife indeed just got it but the page says certification. Oh well, can't complain!

Wrong version download
Hey there! So I have a rooted SIM unlocked phone (HTC One M7) with the standard T-Mobile OS but for some reason the updater keeps downloading the Sense 6.0 Developer Edition instead of the T-Mobile edition. Does anyone have the OTA ZIP file handy that I could download to manually update? It should be 5.14.531.1 (instead of 5.14.531.11 that my phone keeps downloading).
Thanks!

That's so weird? The reason I posted was because the software page for me says complete. Anyways, glad your wife got it!

I believe you have the correct version. The Developer Edition version is 5.11.1540.9!

Does this mean firmware? If you have the firmware I would LOVE it... What is the radio version, btw?

No, I mean a custom ROM based from the T-Mobile US official Sense 6 release. I'm having trouble getting a good dump though. ADB keeps skipping files while pulling from recovery. Any idea why this happens? I've never had it happen before. Radio is 4T.27.3218.14.

Can't wait for this. Thanks! :good:
Ok, I have one really stupid question... Is that update for all T-Mobile branded phones, or just in the USA?? Because my phone is branded to T-Mobile Deutschland and I'm wondering when will I get the update.

Thank you! You're absolutely right, I just had to make some changes on my end to let it install an OTA. I am having another issue though and I'm not sure how to fix it. It's telling me that the SoundHound_freemium.apk is missing and the installation fails (when installing from stock recovery). Any idea why that is?
Almost perfect
The only thing now missing from the HTC One M8 apart from the huge bezzel at the bottom (which I do not want) is the double tap to open. I've tried knockr and it does work but burns through your battery because of a limitation on the hardware. I must say the HTC One M7 with sense 6.0 is way better looking now than the M8 now that the black background on the dock has become transparent. Why couldn't they have made the M8 this way and kept the capacitive? Oh well, here's hoping for the M9.
I got the update this morning. So far I like it. It finally got me interested in my home screens and widgets I've been completely ignoring them until now.
Has anyone else's "auto sleep" display timeout stopped working?
