[Bootloader Bypass] Kexec for Motorola RAZR by kholk & [mbm] - Motorola Droid RAZR

Welcome to the EternityProject's Motorola RAZR Bootloader Bypass Thread!
What do we have today?
Kexec. After working with a really good developer, [mbm], finally this has become real.
Linux boots Linux. No signature checks.
Yeah, this is the beginning of custom kernels
Oh, remember that this is still a WORK IN PROGRESS!
Known issues (to be solved):
- CPU1 doesn't come up.
- It fails on (some?) CDMA Droid RAZRs
ToDo (by priority):
1. Fix CDMA Droid RAZR problem
2. Fix CPU1
Disclaimer:
The EternityProject and [mbm] aren't responsible of anything you do on your device: if it explodes and kills you, or if it comes to life and becomes something like Terminator, it's YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY.
Plus, prior complaining that it doesn't work, use a STOCK MOTOROLA ROM. Thanks.
Tested on:
651.167.19.XT910.Retail.en.FR
651.167.26.XT910.Retail.en.EU
65.1.40.XT910.MERetail.en.06
651.73.250.XT910.Brasil.en.BR
65.1.40.XT910.AsiaRetail.en.03
65.3.106.XT910S.SKT.en.KR
Installing:
1. Copy the package on your internal memory / MicroSD
2. Boot the bootstrap recovery
3. Install it via that recovery.
Booting with kexec:
Open a terminal emulator or ADB and enter this:
Code:
su
sh /system/bypassme/bypassme.sh
Then wait for 10 seconds to jump over the new kernel. Now your device will vibrate and apparently freeze. Wait a minute and you'll be on the new kernel
You can also set the script above to be automatically executed at boot time or to be a one-tap script with apps like Script Manager.
Video how-to by therazrguy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0o2j543IOMc
In case of freeze:
VOLDN+POWER (press for ~10 seconds) will hardshutdown your device. If it freezes during the kexec boot, retry. Sometimes it can happen.
In case of slow-like-hell device:
Install SetCPU or AnTuTu CPU Master and change your governor from 'mot_hotplug' to 'ondemand'.

Note:
If something is not working, please remove anything that is automatically running at boot, like auto-recovery and the "Set on boot" option of SetCPU or AnTuTu CPU Master.
The EternityProject Team Manager & Main Developer,
--kholk

I will test to fastboot Asia..

That's amazing job you BOTH did !
Questions:
1. Which kernel did you use as base?
2. Could you post it's source to see the diffs?
Thanks a lot!

Congrats! Thanks Kholk and mbm, you guys are the best!
I just have one question.
After this how can I boot into the normal kernel and use both cores if I want to? Is that even possible or are we stuck with only one core till a fix is found?

Hey Aashrey,
I can reboot my Phone and got the Stock Kernel. After running the script it reboots again and there's the Magic
So all under control!

This may be offtopic but still intresting: How did they manage to unlock the bootlooader of Motorola Atrix? If Motorola locks all their bootloaders then how did someone manage to unlock the atrix?

Ooh~ it‘s amazing!

One question:

I installed it 3 times when i had cwm on boot & it failed, i dont know why but seems cwm on boot causes some errors, then i removed that & it worked,
Apply it on your xt910s, you dont miss anything

i hope this gets ported to the CDMA RAZR and then the Droid 4, since their hardware is very similar

For some reason my phone doesn't go to the deep sleep while running the new kernel

Moto leaked a bootloader that could be unlocked... I think the community called it the 'pudding sbf'.

Because perhaps it seems that reboot and reboot again.
Question:
We(XT910S) have not sbf. So, i'm very careful.
Custom kernel is being applied when BP-Tool boot only?
is it possible back to original kernel? (Normal-boot)
thanks.

Yes exacly
BT Tool = custom kernel
when you reboot in normal mod you have your original kernel

[GSM] I can't wait relate NEW Way to bypassing BL Flash SBF of ICS ChinaRetail leak

Dear All
Hi, I am a Chinese using Asia XT910, my English was poor, but I can't wait to tell you the NEW Way to bypassing BL Flash SBF of ICS ChinaRetail leak.
--------Background--------
Phone: GSM Rzar - Asia XT910 - China Retail XT910(GSM/WCDMA)
SBF: EU Retail - Asia Retail - China Retail
My phone Asia XT910 can flash any release-keys SBF of EU and Asia Retail, but can not flash any SBF of China Retail(GB and ICS)
A day a guy found a NEW Way to bypassing BL Flash almost any SBF (he just test the ICS leak and GB of ChinaRetail): http://bbs.mfunz.com/thread-399816-1-1.html
But not perfect with TRUN ON and Reboot phone, MUST select "BP Tools" after reboot.

I can confirm it works, using the build right now. The flashing process is a bit convoluted, as is the root method, but it's well worth it. 100% functional. Let me know if there's anything you guys are struggling with, I'll try and get a less Engrishy how-to up.

There's a mirror here: http://multiupload.nl/KCY3GHO566
1. Unpack this file to external SD.
2. Flash Retail Asia (Android 2.3.6)
3. Root your device via motofail.
4. Install Connectbot via Google Play and run it. In ssh list choose "local" method. Long tap and choose Android keyboard.
Tap complete and now you're in terminal, input su and set permissions. Input this line as is and hit enter:
cat /dev/block/mmcblk1p18> /sdcard-ext/mmcblk1p18-back
Now we got backup for original 18block file /dev/block/mmcblk1p18
Now change the original one with file from Step1:
cat /sdcard-ext/mmcblk1p18-go> /dev/block/mmcblk1p18
5. Flash china 4.0.4 ICS (maybe you'll have some errors just skip em) via RSD or Fla****.
6. Phone will reboot, go into recovery and wait till radio is flashed, then reboot your device.
7. Hit volumedown+volumeup+power, go into recovery and wipe data/cache, then reboot your device.
8. Once again volumedown+volumeup+power, go into BP Tools, device now will starting, maybe some errors - ignore them.
9. To root your ICS , download this file. Reboot device with volumedown+volumeup+power.
10. run replace.bat
11. run TPSparkyRoot.bat
12. Reboot device with volumedown+volumeup+power.
13. run recover.bat

You don't have to flash AsiaRetail first - I came from en.eu 2.3.6. Would imagine any build is fine.
And ADB and Terminal Emulator do the same job as ConnectBot.

Oh, man, I hope you're right 'cause I've got LATAM device. Have anyone tried this on LATAM devices with Android 2.3.5?
Tell if it works on your latam i try tmr.
Enviado desde mi XT910 usando Tapatalk 2
Given this effectively bypasses the regional restrictions and uses RSD itself to flash a full official 4.0.4 build, I really can't see why the build you're coming from would matter at all (Unless there are differences in the layout or size of the Customer ID block - mmcblk1p18 - in 2.3.5 vs. 2.3.6).
It can't hurt to try it out, since you can always use RSD to get back on a Gingerbread ROM if it doesn't play nicely. Just make sure to back up your own mmcblk1p18 first, and read the instructions as thoroughly as you can - the first time you come across the CustomerID error screen is a bit scary, and rooting it with multiple manual reboots is a real pain in the arse - you have to hold both volume keys and scroll to BP Tools EVERY time you reboot the phone. It's a pain, but fully functional ICS is worth it.
Also includes the new Webtop beta which basically launches the standard ICS tablet UI and scales everything up. And you no longer need a dock hack like Nebtop to launch it without an official webtop accessory, interestingly enough.

Same. About to give it a whirl on Rogers/VIVO flashed RAZR. Wish me luck
By the way, does this ROM contain Smart Actions, Motocast, etc (Motoblur apps)?
I'm a little bit confused with its size (okay, gapps are not included, I know it).

Nice!
A bug?:
When I go to do "something else", click on whatever e.g. ICS keyboard, but then I click cancel and I get "This addon could not be found, please contact the developer"
Why do I get the message "No device is set" when I click on install the stock ROM? How do I set it?
Is this still work in progress or?
Regarding bootloader unlocking, maybe you could work together with quangnhut123 and his program?
It would be nice to have everything automated...
otherwise, keep up the good work! You still have some way to go, but you're getting there

And there's a GUI bug if you look at the pic?

Suggestions:
You might wanna consider writing a quick guide on what every option does?
Or you can make some info appear on mouse hover.

Hi everyone, I wrote this simple little program to help with flashing kernels on S-ON HTC devices. The program is pretty simple and contains all of the needed files to flash your boot.img and push the necessary kernel modules, either while the phone is booted into Android or if you are stuck in a bootloop and can only get into the bootloader. The program is configured to flash a near-stock boot.img from the 2.13 base (only added init.d support) and the kernel modules for the kernel. In theory, you can replace the boot.img and modules from other kernels and flash through this program as well (more info in 3rd post)

Info
How it works:
This program flashes whatever boot.img is placed in the "files" folder and moves whatever modules are in the "files\modules" to /system/lib/modules on your phone.
Click to collapse
How to use:
Use the main menu to flash your boot.img to your phone. For most people, this will be the option they need to use. If you cannot boot (bootloop) then you need to get into the bootloader by pressing and holding power and volume down. This may take 10-15 seconds and you may see the bottom LEDs flashing in the process. In this case, please use the advanced menu to flash the boot.img (this way removes the adb steps to automatically boot into recovery, since you can't use adb if you're in a bootloop)
Click to collapse
Flashing a different kernel than what is included with the program:
If you want to use this program to flash a different kernel than the stock 2.13.651.1 kernel, place the custom kernel boot.img in the "files" folder and also take the new modules for the kernel you want to flash, delete all the files in the "modules" folder, and put the new modules into the "modules" folder.

I'll test it out and report back.
---------- Post added at 04:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:14 PM ----------
Usage instructions:
Open the zip file and extract the boot-img-flasher.exe and the files directory somewhere on your computer.
Boot your phone into bootloader/fastboot.
In the 'files' directory (example: C:\Flasher\Files) put the boot.img from your selected kernel.
In the modules directory (C:\Flasher\Files) put whatever modules come with your kernel.
Run boot-img-flasher.exe
Select option 1 (if flashing the stock kernel it comes with). Phone will reboot into bootloader and flash the kernel. Follow the directions.
Viper needs to make a few changes so it's not quite ready for prime time yet, but it should work. I'd wait for the next version, but if you're impatient, light it up and give it a shot

Thanks Steve, as always.
If you need to use this right away, boot into bootloader the go into the advanced menu and flash from there. You may see an Adb error when its rebooting, I will fix all this in about an hour or so.

A. Boot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset. Your prayers have beey answered

A. This is not an error with the tool or recovery, its just.. a nexus thing...
Flash it a few more times and eventually it will stick!

A. No. it downloads the file once and detects that its already there the second time.
Q. Is this tool worth my time?
A. Who would think a 10 minute toolkit could hit the portal?

Yes!
also people reading the article on the portal, the tool does not use fast flash commands, it uses the dd method for those flashes, when i add kernel flashing and backing up your device as .img files then i will be adding fastboot flash commands, so yes, the flashes occur when your device is booted!
Can I ask what version of TWRP is installed, is it the latest?

i am almost finished updating the tool i will include it in the next update!! but you could more then likely find them in the general section!
ok cheers, no problem. Will wait for the new version to be up, no rush. Thanks for your commitment to provide a tool for us noobs/lazy people!
Would you recommend running your tool before first boot?
Just a few questions: when there is <waiting for device> for 5 minutes, that seems like my drivers are wrong? It was possible to unlock, but not to install a recovery, so i am trying to update my drivers...
And can i run the tool and select unlock, install recovery and root even when my device is already unlocked?

I take it that you mean Lock, my Kit doesn't relock. Are you S-OFF? That is required to Lock your bootloader. What superuser app are you using?

Squabbi has no recovery, lock, Font Theming, device info get, etc.... It also has a GUI, which in reality, is a MINUS. Unless he is just using the gui to launch a bat, then it is a VERY inefficiant and risky way of doing things, that's why I nixed my GUI tools (it bricked my Nexus 5, luckily I saved it).

Hey there Kwongger.
like you said its really incomplete. Which is true... No batch files are used in mine.
" that's why I nixed my GUI tools " Just wondering what's 'nixed'? Is it a typo? Last one, was it my Nexus 5 toolkit that bricked your phone? (I'm really sorry. :'( ). This was posted with no harm or aggression in any way.

not trying to act the role of N00b, but, when you get a chance, can you post either a step by step directions list, or, even a video on how to use this?
I haven't tried it yet, but I assume you just plug your phone into a windows pc, and if you have the proper drivers installed, the program starts up when you click on it..
thanks!

nixed- put an end to; canceled.
Yes. It was your kit that bricked it :/ and then I tried to fix it with a kit I made, which fixed it, and then bricked it.
Tools like that are inefficient. They can't natively run the commands, so the open a sort of "emulated" command prompt to execute them. That is where we run into issues. I think GUI kits are GREAT minus that.
