My beloved prime after it was catapulted by my 10 month baby across the room (yeah, she's that strong, we call her Yetti behind her back).
Surprisingly enough, the bad mammajamma is still fully functioning (minus the fact that swiping your finger across those cracks will draw blood, the darn thing is razor-sharp).
Think I can RMA? (The prime, not Yetti)
I tried to nandroid-restore it, but it's still cracked, I'll write a *****en email to the dev with a feature request, "Please make option to restore broken screen or else I'll give you 1 star".
oh, and it made my GPS super-awesome now! I can see 4000+ sats now, some of them I can pick right through earth when they are right below me.
Yeah, no, it's a bummer, I wanted to lock my self in the bathroom and weep like a 6 years old girl who's Pony got hit by a truck.

You could always ebay your Yetti ... i often think about the same.
That just hurts me from looking at it. If you can't scrap it for parts do you think a screen protector would prevent your fingers from getting cuts? If your into programing you can turn it into a test tablet for running and tinkering roms/apps.

Well, as luck would have it, I saw a tweet today about being able to go see the transformer prime at select Gamestop locations. There were two in Colorado that were supposed to have them to demo.
I called one of them in Denver, they said they had a display unit and a unit to sale. Well, hop in the car, and now I have an Amethyst Grey 32GB sitting next to me, completely sealed.
I wanted the 64GB version, and I think I will hold for that from Amazon. I'll probably just sell this one on craigslist.
I know I'm very lucky. The first time I've ever had anything like this happen to me.

Stuck it on Craigslist. Some of the people on IRC are saying I should take a dump of the rom before I sell it. However, if I open, I can't return it. Decisions, decisions.
Just called a gamestop about 75 miles away from me & they have the 32gb champagne gold one (purple) but i'm thinking i won't ever hardly ever be looking at the back of the thing anyway lol.My Xoom stays in a gel cover or either the folio at all times..so color really shouldnt be a big deal.

Lucky Mofo. If you don't plan on keeping it, smartest move now would be to put it on eBay. I'm sure you could easily get $800 or more for it. Since it's so rare and not even officially out yet. You should contribute by dumping the rom to developers so we could have a nice headstart on developing. The sooner the better and faster we get custom roms, CWM recovery, n over clocking.

Aftermseeing this thread I called around to local gamestops to see if they had it. They said only the big store ones around here would have it. I found one and they said none in stock yet but they will have it on the 19th. Only thing is he said they only taking pre orders on it so once they come in, they pretty much all will be accounted for. Especially since demand is so high. He said everybody been calling like crazy and going bananas looking for that tablet. I was like I know, it's the first quad core android tablet..LMFAO

There have been some very real quality issues with this device. Particularly with the GPS (which MAY have turned out just to be a software issue, but may not be).
For you to write those issues off by saying that people were trolling is extremely irresponsible.
There has been some direct trolling, but the volume of the negative reviews have been from honest owners.
I appreciate the honest opinions here - it can be tough to fish out the trolls from the honest folk though.
Ah there are simply too many people that are looking for an ipad but buying the Prime, imho... And then there are many people that only look at the small things that arent perfect yet and not at the big picture.
I still have not found a big enough reason to cancel my preorder (ships mid january here) and there are so many people here trying really hard to ***** about this Tablet
On the other hand, if I was getting the TP mainly for GPS navigation in my car i wouldnt do it. But for the things i intend to do with it (surfing&youtube, watching movies, gaming _with a gamepad_ +emulators and text input), there's still nothing better and wont be anytime soon.

I opt'd to cancel my prime order...no gps and poor wifi performance... not for $600 so I canceled the dock and tablet order *sigh* am very disappointed...
I have one that I'm selling for $650 here locally on Craigslist in Eugene OR. I think I'm the only one in Eugene that has it. If I sell it I can buy a dock for my second Prime.

The wifi is fine and there is a GPS. You didnt even receive it, yet you assume that these issues exist in all TFPs, which they don't.

Good thing I'm selling it on Craigslist. Its funny how some people are oblivious to the Prime. One guy laughed at me and sent me a link to what he thought was the same tablet. It was the tf101 lol. Asking me why he should buy mine and not the one he found for $400. So I of course educated him a bit and told him off.

What they end up doing or you doing after they wouldn't give you cash back for gift cards. It was free gift cards anyways so I would've just pulled the small cash amount out n placed another order. Don't let best buy taint your yearning for the Prime...lol.
Haha, sorry, was getting late and needed to end it quickly. I asked the cashier to go get a manager because he couldn't give me cash for the gift card. Manager came over, I just said that I had been over at customer service for the last hour and a half and that I'd like cash for this gift card because i am no longer going to shop at this store.
I just got so annoyed with the waiting game. Anyone I spoke with had absolutely no idea what i was talking about most of the time. Also, the computer guy that came over to check the Prime, he actually says, "why don't you just get an ipad"? I wanted to slam his head against the counter.

I've always detested BestBuy. They're the "Hot Dog On A Stick" of consumer electronics stores. Too well lit... Too plasticky... Forget about getting anything even remotely obscure there -- too few choices on most things.
'Won't even get started on how borderline criminal Geek Squad is. $25(ish) to "optimize" my e-reader?
Being an IT professional, I advise as many folks as possible to avoid that store and go elsewhere... anywhere...

Actually the main difference was, on that Friday when they wouldn't put a Saturday delivery sticker on for you? They went the extra mile for me, and SENT IT GROUND (after I had paid $29 for overnight shipping 4 weeks earlier), causing it to take another 12 days to reach me in a padded envelope, after riding via Rail from California to North Carolina. The box was quite crushed, though the Prime seemed okay... at first.
oh, and they charged me for the pre-order immediately, even though the policy says "we won't charge until we ship" so I had paid for it almost 6 weeks earlier.
The good news? I got my Prime for free. Yep. BB provided a FULL REFUND. I should be happy yes? Sort of. The Prime ended up RMA'ed, and I am without it once again. The saga continues. It was agreed to send me another one, yesterday, overnight. And yes, I agreed to let them open and test it since I am NOT going to be without it again, but instead of shipping it yesterday - Thursday they forgot... whoops. Now I wait till next week, unless I can get Asus to do a Saturday sticker...This is like the movie groundhog day... it literally never ends.... and I so lived my OG transformer... It's like I am being punished for wanting something more... The Prime I got paused, hung and lagged on virtually everything I did with it. It was cosmetically nice, but never saw a single GPS satellite. Wifi... fair... Light bleed, not terrible, but enough to cause concern, in every way it was ... not much better than my TF101 except in looks, and took a better picture. Not nearly as slick as I had hoped. Looked wonderful with the dock though... Horrible to keep clean. ICS is cool, but again, it lags so often, ... well maybe the nbew one will be better, or enough updates will come along to get things right... sigh

I wouldn't shop at Best Buy, but they are the only place near me that sells the diamond and gold plated HDMI cables to give me better HD. They are worth the $75.

Thanks for posting this. I am glad to know I wasn't alone. That is pretty awesome that they gave you a free one, hopefully you get it soon! My device did work pretty well. Still got hung up every once in a while but I just couldn't spend that kind of money and not have at least the build quality done well and I am not dealing with that many dead pixels. If it were just a couple, that's another story.

Maybe that is why I don't get a great signal with my D-Link dual band gaming router, I didn't buy the solid gold packet protecting ethernet Cables! It has nothing to do with having a three floor residence.
On the other hand, I did work there for three years so I do know how to game the system. Due to the one year ADH I have only had to pay 99 a year to upgrade my laptop to a newer version.

So you bought a new prime with every intention of returning it while your original prime is getting fixed. Maybe you think twice next time or make sure there is a return window.
Considering all the problems with the prime, I am sure you could convince them to tak it back. We were told the same thing about Microcenter, and they took my prime back no questions asked due to all the issues (But in my case we were honestly returning due to the issues)
I'm waiting for the next model - Not worth the cash for a device with issues (Putting foil on the face to improive wifi reconfirmed my decision to wait)

Had the phone face down after having recently rejected a call, my dad and I heard a tiny sound but didn't think much of it. Later when I picked it up I was in utter shock to find the screen had cracked. The phone is only 1 month or so old and HAS NEVER EVER been dropped.
I gave AT&T a call knowing I'd get no where...and yes, I got no where. So I called HTC and they were super nice. However, they pretty much told me that while screen defects are possible, it's next to never that it's ruled as such by the technician. I sent it in anyway to see what happens.
I really don't have any other options at the moment to getting it repaired as I could not find a single place that sells HOX+ parts. Some have reported HOX parts being cross compatible, but I'm not going to take the phone apart (and risk damaging it) on a "maybe".
In sum, I'm heartbroken and pissed.
And to rub salt into the wound, I'm having to use my wife's old iPhone 3GS in the meantime :crying:

I'd cry if I had to use an iPhone. Sorry to hear about your phone. I think the one x and + both share the same dimensions so maybe a one x screen will work but the leds will be white not 100% about compatibility so maybe check with HTC
These phones are actually really easy to tear apart! Don't be scared

I would hope that a technician could tell the difference between a defect and impact damage. If it were dropped, there would be some kind of impact mark somwhere, especially considering how hard Gorilla Glass 2 is supposed to be to break. Fingers crossed for you.
Don't feel bad. I just sent mine back to HTC as well. All layers of the screen destroyed but surprisingly the phone still worked so I'm looking at a new digitizer and lcd. I miss her

Still no word from HTC. I'm basically torn between forking over $200+ for the repairs if they're not going to repair it under warranty and just selling it as is on eBay. I figure I can get $300, then use the money toward a Nexus 4. It's going to kill me not having LTE, 64GB storage, sharp screen, nor the sexiness that is the HOX+, but I can't spend $200 after just recently spending $250 to buy it. I don't know. Confused

They quoted me at 120 shipped to replace the lcd and digitizer. Your repairs should be much cheaper if all they are replacing is the digitizer.

Yeah, that's like taking your Mercedes in for service and having them give you a Yugo as a loaner.
Well that's definitely encouraging. I can certainly handle that I read elsewhere it was >$200, but I'll take $120 to get my baby back.

Tell me about it. Aside from the fact I want to bash it against the wall because I can't do half the things I'm used to (I miss Swype SORELY, among everything else), subconsciously I find myself concealing it cause I feel embarrassed for using it.

HTC/Futuretel in Canada quoted me $430 for screen + digitizer. I smashed it a few weeks ago, you can find my thread in the q&a section.
I found a company in Vancouver that will do it for $135 so we'll see how that repair goes.

My status changed to "In Repair" today. Not sure if that means they're going ahead and repairing it under warranty or that they're looking at and will contact me soon with estimate. Wait and see I guess. Keeping my fingers crossed.
It does not mean that. Mine said the same thing the first day and it was explained to me that it means they are taking it apart to diagnosis the extent of condition. My final cost was 200. They claimed they needed to replace the casing as well... I didn't argue it and paid up. You can dispute the charges though.

You're absolutely right. An hour later they sent me a quote with the same thing, $200 for the screen and casing. I called them up and asked as to why the casing needed replacing when only the screen was cracked. They escalated it and someone is going to contact me back. I don't have a problem paying to replace the screen (which I hoped to be around $120), but why should I pay an extra $80 for a casing that was in pristine condition.

I totally agree with you. My case was pristine as well. Hard to tell from the pics though but there was no damage done to it. I'm guessing the destroyed it taking the screen out.

Just got off the phone with HTC again. They said the 200 does not include the case. That is being thrown in because they probably damaged it when removing the internals. 200 only includes replacing the screen.

After reading your post I just said fuuuuuuuunk it and just went online and approved the repairs and paid for them. I have zero hope that any good is gonna come out of this and I don't want to wait another week (was told up to 10 days) for them to review my case only to come back and tell me they won't cover them. Thought about putting the $200 toward a Nexus 4 (or whatever I got from the selling the HOX+ as is), but I really love my HOX+, even if I miss the Nexus experience.

Am sorry to hear about your screen. Don't wanna go off topic but stick to the HOX+. I have the nexus 4 as well and it's a good phone and all but the camera and audio experience is awful. If you use your phone with a headset from time to time or take pics the Nexus 4 is ridiculous, I mean really bad.

Got my phone back yesterday from HTC and was surprised to find out that they actually sent me a brand new one instead of repairing my original one. This actually makes me feel a whole lot better about dropping $200.
I'll give :good: for HTC for their quick turnaround and the nice packaging the phone came in.
All in all, I'm just glad to have my [new] HOX+ back.
