[Q] galaxy nexus or galaxy siii or one x? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi every one
I'm going to buy a new phone handsets from the top which I think is better?
In the meantime, I'm android htc hd2.

Easy choice, wait for SGS 3
Skickat från min GT-I9000 via Tapatalk 2

cause of look galaxy nexus
or w8 for s3

Deleted...

If you're really impatient, the one x has a better processor and camera but doesnt look as cool as the galaxy nexus.
If not, just wait for the galaxy 3.

I am waiting for the next Nexus phone... it should be out this year... In the mean time I have a OneX as I hate Samsung Galaxy ( except the Nexus line)

i personally suggest HTC EVO 3D

get a nexus or wait for the next one. if the s3 comes out with gingerbread looking touchwizzz it would be a joke. if it has unadulterated ICS on it and samsung leaves it in peace so you can update on a regular basis and even hope for jellybean, then its an option. still i would get nothing but nexus because its open and friendly to the dev community and you'll get the best out of your phone always and without hassle.

galaxy nexus or s3, though the tegra version of the one x looks pretty sweet

If you don't like to wait, choose Nexus.
But I think it's better to waiting for S3

Wait for the Galaxy SIII Before doing a decision, I'm on the same boat!

If I were you I would have went straight for the One X but if your curious then waiting for the S3 is Also a viable suggestion.

Isn't jellybean OS for tablets only?
Sent from my Legend using xda premium

it is? would be the first time i hear about it. didn't they just incorporate honeycomb, so why would they again separate it. but whatever it is, i mean the next iteration for android.

I heard jelly bean OS would be released for tablets and keylime pie OS released for the phones. May be wrong.

wait for GS3 but only if the screen is better than the GS2, colors are so wrong and flashy, I really dont like it

Nexus for the best software (update) support.
But as of now, i would choose for the One X. Beautiful screen, beautiful hardware and ICS. Best Android phone on the market atm. That is until the GS3 will be released. Details are still unknown and might not be that much better than the One X. Who can tell?
One X would be the choice. Or you can wait till the GS3 gets announced to make a comparison.

Lets hope they don't make that mistake lol.
But from what I have heard/seen it is going be running a more ICS feel to it, so touchwiz will be re-done to fit with ICS.

yeah but thats what i mean. why would they do that. ICS is already ICS so why abusing it and fragmenting android further. why not just slapping bada on the s3 and everythings fine? if they again hack the framework to force hellish touchwizz on it the device will be crippled: no updates (because samsung would have to hack each and every iteration that google hands out), no support, lacking rom culture, no drivers and pale prospects for android-next. i have just made it through all this with my s2, not gonna do it again.

What do you think: this phone or Nexus Prime?

Will we see an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for this phone? With all the magical and sexy hardware optimizations and GPU acceleration? I'm really hyped for the Prime, especially since the iPhone 4S was such a disappointment, but there's one thing I can't leave, and that's HTC Sense. On top of that, Google seems to suddenly like waiting a year and a day to release the source code for Android, so the Cyanogenmod team might not be working on it if there's not source I dammit I want ICS
well google claim they didnt release the source code for honeycomb cause its only for tablets and supposedly ICS source code will be out, time will tell
I don't think we would be recieving a ice cream sandwhich rom , by the time that's released they'll make the Nexus 9 & the Amaze 9 haha , i don't think we'd get it the close of ICS we'd get is a blue framework & launcher .

Google actually claimed Honeycomb's source code "wasn't ready" which was kinda evident in Honeycomb itself. Then they told us Honeycomb sources will come after ICS release. If that's true, then ICS sources won't come until Jellybean, and by then we'll be hyped over Jellybean and still be outdated after upgrading to ICS
#NeverAgain - I'll wait until the Nexus Double Prime, by Googlrola.
Going back to HTC, so Amaze, here I come!

Personally I would skip this phone, I took a closer look at the specs and it's a slightly buffed Sensation w/ MT4GS's cam. and 256 more RAM. The Prime may be a better choice, but it's taking to long to be released.

I just wish they had made the jump to 8mp camera from the specs ive seen it was 5mp and I hope they dont leave out 1080p recording the nexus s couldnt even do 720p they took it out.

TBH...
I'd say Nexus prime.
Nexus Prime is rumored to have the exy proc with the same GPU as the Ipad2 and Ip4s. ALONG with a 720p screen.
The Amaze has an inferior GPU. Inferior CPU. Inferior Screen.
However... I have no doubt it will look ALOT sexier.
Man... I reeeeealllly want it LOL!

Doesn't that mean no 4G speeds for T-Mobile? I want my 42Mbps speeds
the beauty fo htc products is that ports seem to come very often from newer htc devices...i still have my old hd2 and its amazing..upgraded to sgs4g when it came out, phone is cool, but no ports really and just recently was cwm brought to it..stilll all available ports are just customized samsung unofficial releases. nexus prime, eh if you r with tmobile, and know that 90% chance it isn't coming, then just get the a maze. the amaze will prolly be the best phone tmobile will release for next 6 months. nothing on leaked sheets shows better upcoming phones. i'm about getting phones that will last me a long time as far as technology not being obsolete in a week.. thats why i didn't get sensation. so if the specs on this phone disappoint you, you have problems. get the amaze.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus To The Note?

I've gone from the Dell Streak -> Galaxy Nexus and am now considering going back to a 5"+ screen.
Does anyone have any insight regarding this change? I really love ICS, which is why I'm hesitant to switch, but I miss all that extra screen real estate! Perhaps I'm better served waiting a few more months until devs get their hands on an official Note build of ICS. Thanks for any help you guys can give.
I have both! Ics is way better than gingerbread. But the note is a phenomenal device! There's no other device like it! Ics is supposed to be release for the note but I don't know when exactly.

Basically the same situation I'm in. I had a Nexus S with factory ICS.
I'm basically giving them to the end of March to get ICS out (Not from ATT, I realize that won't happen, but a leak from Samsung or CM9 or something). If they don't, I'll probably trade/sell for a Galaxy Nexus, even though I like the Note's hardware more.

There's literally no aspect of the OS I can think of that wasn't drastically improved in ICS. Literally everything is better. One great example is the absolutely insane way they want you to mount as SD card in GB.
Unplug cable, go to menu > Wireless and networks > USB settings, press connect, plug cable in, Press connect again.
Seriously?
I miss my AOKP on my galaxy nexus I had on verizon, but with the deal I got I couldn't pass up the note. (they accidentally put me on a dumbphone ETF with Verizon and AT&T gave me all 3 of my family plan phones for %50, so the note was only $150) However much I enjoy my note, I miss ICS and the fluidity AOKP brought that android version. I cant wait for a CM9/AOKP/AXIOM/anything ICS Rom.
One of the reasons I like the Nexus is because I can use my T-mobile or my Red Pocket sim. I have the $30 plan with T-mobile and $60 Red Pocket plan...I love my Note..Wish I could have both..

Disagree completely. I just traded my Galaxy Nexus for a Note and couldn't be happier. ICS is great, but still has plenty of kinks to work out. Add to that lots of software needs to be updated and GB on the Note isn't so bad.

Couldn't agree more.
I too came from a device where I was running ICS and have absolutely zero complaints/difficulty reverting back to GB because the trade off is a much better device.
In the end, we're really debating a subjective issue so there's no true right or wrong, but one thing's for sure: If you're going from ICS back to GB, the device itself had better make up the difference in terms of user experience, and the Note's clearly got the goods to bridge this gap. Also, it's only a matter of time before the devs cook up some ICS ROMs that make this discussion moot anyway.

The biggest matter is not the software on this phone, but the physical attributes. After over a week with note, I just cannot get used to the size. Sure, the screen is beautifully massive and makes the Galaxy Nexus look like an iPhone but the Note is just uncomfortable for one handed use (im 6'1" and I CAN use it one handed no problem, its just uncomfortable). My main factors for going back to the Galaxy Nexus were getting my unlimited 4g LTE data plan back (for the fiance too) comfort-ability, and better reception (I literally live across the street from a Verizon tower getting 15-32mpbs download where as the Note on AT&T 4G LTE im at the very edge getting 2mpbs down on a tiered 3GB plan). Ill still certainly be jealous when ICS ROMs come out for the note, but for now ill just stick with AOKP and a spare battery with charger lol.

I hear that, and I said somewhere else on this forum that I love the Note "in spite" of its awkwardness and the funny looks/snide comments I get regarding its size, similar to what an owner of a Great Dane probably deals with each time he/she takes it for a walk down the street. lol
For me, it's just that the functionality of the device is so over the top awesome (based on my prior Android experience) that even the clear unweildiness of the device (is that a word!?!) can't scare me away.
But again, to each their own.
I just left the AT&T store with my new Note. I had the Nexus on Verizon. I love ICS, but the note is a really nice device, and I'm enjoying the speed increase on HSPA+ compared to Verizon 3B.C.
I plan on buying a GSM Nexus to have as a backup to my Note.

I come from a Galaxy Nexus and there's 2 major things that I miss :
1. The beautiful number of PPI on the Nexus screen.
2. The notificatiin light.
I also miss ics/AOKP but I'm not in a hurry to root the Note.

[Q] S2 NOW: is it still worth it?

Hey galaxy s2'ers!!
I am the owner of a HTC HD2 that has been my pride and joy for a long time. However recently its mini-USB port and GPS broke/failed on me and I decided to move on.
I'm looking for a phone I can keep for a couple of years and it must have decent camera, battery life and good GPS reception. Games/3D performance tends to be rather secondary to me.
I checked with my carrier and I can get a brand new 16GB Galaxy S2 for about 200€. There is a more or less similar question to this one here in the forum but do tell me what you think: is the GS2 a good buy these days and for this price?
Thank you!

I actually like Nexus' slight curvature on the frontal plane but the lack of expansion ports is a deal breaker..
Thanks for the input guys
But whats the total cost/contract.I only buy new unbranded ones and get a sim deal separately. It works out more but I can put it through my business.
Is your deal the phone and minutes etc for the 200 euros.
If it is then buy as much as you can, stick em on eBay and chuck the sims

You bet, it is! I just bought a SGS2 4 months for now, and I am completely satisfied and overwhelmed with it. It has the best package for an Android phone. Tons of modifications depending on your taste, and a very powerful hardware that can run almost every app & games. The only phone I would consider to replace my SGS2 is non other han its successor.
Reference: I've constantly checked other Android phones to compare, but nothing beats this beast from what I see.
Go for S III, or Nexus or S II,
If you want to fully Customise your device go for SII or SIII
If not, other variants of S II Like S II X or HD LTE SGH - I757M have greater Hardware 1.5 Ghz i think.

You bet I'm still here: thanks for the input guys! I'm having a meeting with my carrier agent - or whatever you call it - to discuss what phone I'll be getting: I share a professional plan with other colleagues so I get to chose a new phone for a low cost from time to time.. hence the 200€ :victory:
don't worry about sgs2, it definitely worth the money since this great phone beat iphone 4s last year. if you are looking for more budget android smartphone, get sgs2 since the price drop a lot since the launch of sgs3. well, if you can afford sgs3, i will recommend it. :good:
i have been using my sgs2 for almost 6 months now, i wanna say that i am more happy to continue to be with my baby. sgs2 get most of the android update, and i just flash a jelly bean ROM.
sgs2 is more easier to root, to customize, to tweak compare to HTC (where you need the whatever S-OFF thing). i almost kill my friend HTC phone by just trying to S-OFF it. stupid bootloader.
conclusion, if you want cheaper, daily use phone, you can go for sgs2. if you want newer phone, get sgs3 or galaxy note 2.:good: just get samsung phone, you get tonnes of tutorials, guides here.

There has been 1 week since I bought my Galaxy S2 and I'm telling you. I love every bit of it. EVERYTHING. The camera, the screen, design, the UI and everything. Having said that, though the reason why I'm in love with it is maybe because my older phone was only a Samsung Galaxy Mini.
i don't know about you, but I think you can't get a better phone with that price (200€). I got mine for €220 and I don't regret any cent spent on it.
worth all that money and much more.
good for you ^^ enjoy every bit of it. like my s2. i am still not bored of it since JB is here for s2 as well ^^

[Q] Is it worth the purchase?

I'm planning to buy my first Android phone and I've chose then Samsung Galaxy S2. But what i'm unsure of, is that after investing a substantial amount of money (its still expensive in my country) will it be good enough to handle updates beyond JB for the coming two years? or will it be outdated soon and should i rather go for the s3? Need help! Thanks
S2 is still very good device!
IMO it is worth to buy it.

You're from India, right? Right now there's about a 12K price difference between the S2 and S3. So I'm assuming price will play a pretty big part in deciding on a phone. The S2 as of now probably has the most support amongst all android phones while the s3 support is comparatively still in a nebulous stage. Having said that, most devs who're working on the S2 now seem to slowly be moving towards the S3..So S3 dev support will only improve with time. The S2 is definitely getting the next iteration of android. But that'll probably be it. So it should be good for the next couple of years at the very least. but beyond that..who knows. Its like comparing the where the s2 is now to the galaxy s.
If your pocket allows it, go with the s3, else the s2 is still right up there with the best IMO.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Its like this. If you want a good phone where you can do anything one can do, and still not be very expensive, go for the S2. You can do everything with that phone. No limitations whatsoever. Good camera, good looking, not so big, and very smooth with enough space for installing apps.
If you want an awesome phone and expensive one, go for the S3, but you would still find everything you do on S3 also in S2. No major differences in there, except the price.
And I am sure with the latest and upcoming Jelly Bean update the S2 will become and even better phone. I really hope that they will also update it with the latest TouchWiz 5 UX Nature interface. If Samsung does that, I will not envy my father for having an S3 at all.
I have both phones in my home and the only major differences between S2 and S3 are on the interface, and the display. S3 has a much much better display and the latest TouchWiz interface is very cool.
Hope I helped in your decision.
Thanks Haxtream, Agonn that really helped. One last question! The HTC One S is from the same category as the S2 right? But in India HTC is lauching it with S3 snapdragon processor overclocked at 1.7ghz instead of the new S4 Krait architecture chip. Its only 3k more than the S2, and since its launched with ICS I'm assuming it will get updates beyond JB.. is it a good option? overclocked processors won't heat up much right?
I can say now in newest google android version we cannot to do customs roms because its some custiminazion center... sorry if my bad english

Can't say I know much about the One-S but what I do know is that the dev support for it is pretty weak. More so if you compare it to the S2's. I'm assuming its mainly coz of HTCs locked boot loader which they're still trying to work around. Might improve in the future, but you never know.
Another thing is with this whole system of using different chipsets in some countries. It leads to a lot of chaos and confusion if you're into flashing custom ROMs and the like. For proof, just look up the number of people who have managed to flash an i9100 rom on their i9100G phone and bricked it. (If you do go the S2 way, be wary of shops trying to pass off an i9100G in an i9100 box.happened to me.)
Finally..I don't know how it is in Kolkata but here there are barely any HTC service centres.so any problem with the phone means you're stuck for ages. Samsungs service centres are a dime a dozen here. Didn't like the way the fellows were behaving in one service centre so next time I had an issue went to another one literally 500mts away.
Will it get support beyond JB? Who knows? These companies are incredibly cagey about releasing info on releases and since it won't be their latest model nor a past flagship (that I guess is the One-X) I wouldn't count on an upgrade..leave alone a quick one.

Now this is turning into an essay so forgive me. But regarding the overclocked processor. Extreme overclocking does equal more heat. But if the company is releasing it that way itself it should be alright.
I know the S4 chip does..not so sure about the S3 chip. Atleast one of them uses the 28nm manufacturing process. AFAIK the i9100 chips' is 45nm. A smaller manufacturing process theoretically atleast, should produce lesser heat even if overclocked.

Hi, if you want long term support for new android go for google nexus, if possible. The first nexus (very old phone) got JB while we are still waiting for SII official JB, and i'm starting to worry if it will ever arrive.
Cheers!

Nexus gets all the latest updates because it is mainly a Google designed product made by Samsung and Google doesn't have other phones to update as far as I am concerned, I so it's easier for them to only update one device than it is for Samsung who have hundreds of devices to work on updating.
It's not because the S2 is inferior to Nexus cause it has probably even better specs and a much better camera, 8MP, while Nexus only has a 5MP camera.
If you are okay with using custom made Roms than you should definitely choose the Samsung Galaxy S2. There are some truly amazing custom ROM's out there in which you'll be able to run Jelly Bean very good and overclock/underclock your phone to up to 1600MhZ and still have not so much overheating problems.
As for HTC one S, and I don't really know much about it. A friend of mine has a HTC one X and he likes it veryI much. Ive had that phone in hand and it was good amazing screen but too expensive. I would suggest you to get the S2 until a much better phone comes out and you make the money to buy it. Cheers.

Argh! Nexus One (the first nexus) has been abandoned by Google. It did not get official JB update.

One last question, This will be my first android phone, So lets say I won't be flashing new roms' on the ONE S with the s3 chip, will simple rooting be also a problem?
IMO just getting root access on any phone should be pretty simple, the best place to get that answer would be the One S forum dude.. people who have and use the phone will be best placed to tell you how easy or difficult it is. Unless someone here has that phone as well or has rooted it for someone else, you wouldn't get a firsthand opinion (for want of a better term)

Whats your thoughts on upgrading?

I was meant to upgrade last year, but held off to wait on the sgs4 (passed on the sgs3, stuck with my trusty sgs2). But was a little let down from what I've seen so far, from the photos it looks like a sgs3 (not a fan) but maybe in person it will be nice. So I tempted to jump ship for the htc one, started reading xda (As you do) and see posts saying the sgs4 might not get such great support from the usual suspects...that aint good.
So, if your reading this then you aint upgraded for similar reason no doubt...whats the plan? I mean, yeah I want those crazy specs, removable sd/battery...but stock roms and broken custom roms? Im seriously tempted on the htc one, however its a bit of a double edged sword, looks awesome, drop that **** and its ****ed. My sgs2 barely has a scratch.
Whats your thoughts sgs2 owners, Im still on ICS and not kept uptodate with the goings on here. I dont doubt there are awesome devs here, but if the major players dont take an intrest in the sgs4/exynos...its it doomed?
Do you wan't it just because you like to have last piece of tech and don't use even 5% of it..or you need it for better productivity in bussiness?
If first then i don't see a need for upgrade..
Dont get me wrong, I love gadgets, but i botched a screen replacement on my old hd2 (which is now my bros) so if I cant repair I will get a new one and give the sgs2 to my bro (sad to see the hd2 go tho). Anyway, Im more intrested on your thoughts if you were going to buy a new phone sgs4 or htc one? Like I said, Im not as into the whole modding thing as I used to (still like to flash custom roms tho), will the big guns not supporting the sgs4 make much diff? I would of thought so, but maybe there is talk on here?
Well i don't think i will get a new phone, but if it happenes it will definitely be either HTC One or Nexus 5..no need to give Samy money anymore..they have gone the Apple road

Yup, it seems they try to much and forget the core aspects. Just saw this, not sure how true...maybe the uk will get the qualcomm after alll (still not sure if that will make a difference with CM)
http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2013/03/samsung-galaxy-s4-quad-core-only-confirmed-for-the-uk/
What are the rest of your guys thoughts on the sgs4 vs htc one? I hate the thought of touchwiz for 18months, I would much rather vanilla android...but not sure about the htc one.
How about a nexus 4? I'm gonna check when Google i/o is. Should give a good idea of when the next nexus is out.

My S2 contract is up next month and before its release I always planned to upgrade to an S4, however since the S4 launch I have decided to go for the HTC One.
I think the S2 , especially with jelly bean is still a great device but I will pass it on to my son to replace his rubbish galaxy ace, the S3 I think will be Samsungs peak device, the S4 seems to be more of the same, meh, no real innovations on the hardware side but lots of new and gimmicky touchwizz features. I feel as already mentioned by an earlier poster, that this feels a little Apple like...... buy our phone because it's a Samsung and because lots of other people buy it..... rather than....buy it because it's a great phone...
There are, to varying degrees, innovations on BlackBerry z10 (The hub and gestures), Nokia Lumia 920 , (baked in funtionality, low light camera and the live tiles of WP8) and The HTC One (gorgeous design, Zoe, Blinkfeed, ultra pixel camera) all that interest me as an enthusiast/nerd that the S4 just doesn't seem to have.
The Z10 looks great but it's to early in its life for me to spend 2 years without so many essential apps that may or may not arrive on the device. Android has really matured with jelly bean and so for me it is the HTC One

Seriously S IV probably dosent need any custom ROM. It rocks as it is , stock. We on the S II need and want all this custom ROMs / kernels because we want that extra power and smoothness. No need to worry about developers not suporting it , in my opinion.
Now if you have money to spend buy the octo core one and be sure that at least two years you wont think about another upgrade.

if you are ok with your ver now, dont do it.
I'm of a similar opinion, S2 running well but if I can get a deal I'll upgrade. Torn between S4 and xperia Z. S2 was my first smart phone and I do like TW but I hear Sony is more developer friendly and I like the choice and freedom of flashing custom ROMs. Both phones will meet my performance requirements so will come down to cost eventually.

I would say buy nexus 4. But, if you like Sammy based roms, you can go with Samsung s4. Im using sammy rom on s2 and i would never again flash aosp/cm based roms only because of screwed drivers. Cudos to devs to what did they do but.. True project butter is still better. I would buy s4 only because i dont mind using sammy based roms, like neatrom lite. And snapdragon version of s4 might have better support because they push their sources out i think. Wait until May to see nexus 5, then decide.

Go with s4, xperia z has really low specs for that kind of device. And not that good display, its like washed out, also UI is not smooth, it stutters a lot. Better buy nexus 4 instead of xperia z.

Shamesung: no way. Not again... Sony, Moto xphone, nexus... Or apple. Will see what is the best for me in the following months.
Decisions decisions, next nexus also deserves serious consideration. Just not a fan of the black and white Google stock look.

You mean black and blue. you can flash or apply themes to make it like sammy for example. Thats why nexus is great. If i find great opportunity to buy n4 till May, i will, and if not, ill wait to see what nexus 5 will have. But right now, from devices on market, i would choose between nexus4 and s4. Htc one is good too, but that huge speaker grills on front? I mean come in, like some kid played with design. Also i saw 1080p video sample on youtube. It stutters like hell. Sure, it has great audio and its the best in low light capturing, but.. i personally dont need phone to shoot at night or in the dark. so, its s4 or nexus4.

I agree, I'll probably sign up for a 30 day sim only rolling contract and run my S2 until prices stabilise and all phones are released and fully reviewed.

I haven't made my mind up yet but it's going to be a toss up between the Xperia Z, BB Z10, HTC One or the next Nexus 5.
Specs and power are a consideration but....
Xperia Z because I miss reading a book in the bath! Possible development support and good noises coming from Sony but the same could be said for Samsung a few years back.
BB Z10 as the OS intrigues me.
HTC One for its beautiful design, BOM and form factor.
Nexus 5 for the custom appeal and all round Googleness. Strayed from the Nexus line with the S2 so might go back.
Not considering the S4 at the moment as it looks more like a S3 upgrade than revolution. Samsung played it safe, almost using the Apple model of next model releases and I don't like the end result. To paraphrase a song, "here is the new phone, same as the old phone".
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Even the best phone is only the best for 6 to 9 months before its superseded. I am even starting to consider the S3 as it's price is bound to drop once S4 arrives.

My SII is now used by my wife, and I got an III last year
The SII is still attractive and running well - I went away from stock rom to CM10.1 latest nightlies. It is running perfectly and has now an up to date Android OS - Good value for the money I think

Good to know thank you, is the development scene active over on the S3 forum? Just had a quick browse through and there is a decent selection of custom ROMs available.
