[FIRMWARE] ICS/GB Firmware combo's - HTC Rezound

S-OFF DEVICES ONLY
I WILL ONLY SAY THIS ONCE, IF YOU HAVE DATA ISSUES FROM SWITCHING FIRMWARES YOU MUST FLASH THE STOCK RECOVERY AND PERFORM A FACTORY RESET IN HBOOT
DO NOT S-ON THE ENG OR JB HBOOT OR IT WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE
ANYTHING DONE AT THIS POINT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY NOT MINE
So what is this?
Well ill answer that, these are Hboot/Radio/Firmware Combos
What do you do with these?
The purpose of these is avoid performing a full RUU if you would like to upgrade or downgrade firmwares/radios
So why do these include Hboot/radio/firmware files, cant we just flash the radios?
NO, mix and matching all of these has be known to cause data issues. Its best to flash the whole set to prevent data issues
How do you flash these?
Assuming you checked the MD5 sum, just rename these to PH98IMG.zip and place on the root of your external sdcard
New firmware patch huh?
This is simply for those upgrading to ICS firmware on a GB rom Or and ICS rom that had the gingerbread patch flashed over it
Whats the difference between the stock Hboots and the JB/ENG Hboots?
Simply, These Hboots have fastboot commands enabled WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader
I suggest if you use fastboot alot to use these hboots
Thanks to CharliesTheMan i now have a spot on AndroidFileHost
Heres how to tell which file you need
Each file will be named accordingly
[Firmware][Hboot version][JB or Stock hboot][Date of leak if applicable]
So an example would be [GB][2.11][JB]PH98IMG.zip
i suggest you check the MD5 and if you dont know what an MD5 is then you need to research what it is before flashing any of these
Here's the Link: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=3054
Thanks to the JuopunutBear Team for getting us S-off, Jcase for the leaked Hboot

Very very nice. Thank you. Flash this and a GB rom, and it's on old firmware.

superchilpil said:
Since i didnt want to run the gingerbread ruu and mess with nandroiding back to get the eng hboot i made this
This is the eng hboot bundled up with the old firmware, you ust use the old firmware patch to run ics roms after flashing this
just place it on the root of your sd card, rename, and reboot to hboot
It will reboot once during the flash this is normal
DISCLAIMER: IT IS NOT MY FAULT IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE DOING THIS, YOU MUST BE S-OFF AND AS ALWAYS CHECK THE MD5 SUM

This is what I've been running by default after s-off. Has been rock solid. Don't think I'll change for now as many are having issues and/or experimenting. I'll just wait and see what people come up with. Great job in doing this...

This works perfectly and i do think i notice a slight smoother response on most things then before plus the radios like me again. Awesome job

So if we are on ICS, we flash this to get back to GB?

i'm assuming since it's locked but with s-off we need to unlock the bootloader with htc again right? also the patch works but cache still doesnt mount right

This will only downgrade your firmware. Your rom should be left intact. However you will need to flash the GB firmware patch over your rom immediately after doing this or you will have problems. If you want to downgrade android itself, flash a gb rom after doing this or just flash the whole gb ruu

this is the hboot for gb or ics depending on which rom you are using or about to install. the firmware patch is to fix most mounts if using ics roms

Thanks guys. So IF I also run the Firmware patch (For ICS) would it still work for a GB ROM?

The firmware patch also fixes an audio lib that causes constant reboots.

I am on stock rooted 2.01 with all original firmware. If I use both of the files is the OP along with one of the ICS roms will everything work correctly? If not what would I need to do? I would prefer to stay on the GB firmware as I have been getting great service, 3g and 4G speeds.

If your stock then you don't need to flash the hboot file unless you just want the eng hboot, you could just use cons for that
This is meant to downgrade those who upgraded their firmware to the new ics leak
But if you just want to run an ics Rom with the old firmware then just flash the patch in recovery and you should be good

Ok, silly questions, unlocked, s-off now ready to flash

Ok I'm all set now, I got everything flashed, but now I sill have question.
I started with the ENG H boot then I wen to the safer hacked one.
I'm looking for ROMS now and they have a PH98IMG file. Is that the kernel or updated firmware? I wouldn't want to flash different firmware right?
also what about the old firmware patch for ICS roms?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614180
Do I need to be using that as Im still on the GM H boot?
and finally what about mainver errors? since Im s off will that still warn me?
I just want to be careful not to do anything I shouldn't now that most of the safety nets are gone.
Also sorry of my questions are silly, its late at work and I've been starting at this screen all day. Its time to go.
thanks

ROMs generally will never have firmware present unless it specifically states otherwise (perhaps somebody will release one after an OTA if there's a new firmware update). Prior to last week, we all had S-ON (well most of us) so all ROMs came with a script that would dump the boot.img (kernel and RAMdisk) into a PH98IMG.zip, then reboot to bootloader so you can flash it.
Use the old firmware patch for ICS ROMs only if you are on HBOOT 2.11 or lower.
I'm not sure about mainver issues... I don't think they matter now... but if you do get that error there's a simple fix thats been around for awhile.
I am on 2.11 so I would need the patch. Is it ok to use even it I'm not on am ics Rom, should I flash it just in case or wait until I need it.
Yeah I was kinda thinking the same thing about the mainver. Not sure either though

The patch is apart of the system so you only flash it when you are going to run a ics Rom based on the ics firmware. You already have the patch files in the Rom you are running if its GB. But when you flash a new Rom the system is wiped which is why you need to flash the patch. I hope I explained that ok.

I understand, its ok. You right though dont know what I was thinking, of course the system gets wiped.
Im debating which ROM to run now. I was going to go with one of the BAMFs, but I also would mind a senseless ROM either.
Is it wrong that I actually kinda like Sense, I just wish it didnt bog the phone at times.
Also I thinking its probably best to say on the 2.11 firmware, that way I can still run GB if I want and go to ICS ROMS too if I want with the patch.
I like sense too especially since this is my first HTC phone so its something different for me. I had Motorola's in the past. I'm on GB firmware with the eng hboot and running ics Clean Rom.
Sent from my HTC Vigor
Well Sense is certainly an upgrade for me from TouchWiz....I miss a few things but overall it is better...
I think you would be happy with CleanROM, extremely fast and reliable ICS build. You would never know it wasn't stock.

You have to be rooted to acquire s-off. Up until this point you had to be unlocked to acquire root. Now, if you are s-off you can root without unlocking. It's a vicious circle! Lol!

If I'm S-ON can I downgrade my firmware?

I'm currently rooted and I'm running team viper 1.03. However, I updated previously to the leaked ICS 5-7 firmware which came with some pretty crappy radios for me. I use to get much higher 4g speeds, and I'd like to return to the gingerbread ones. I saw this thread and I was wondering if it was safe to flash these firmwares here:

Is there any advantage to being on ICS hboot/firmware? I have been flashing roms but I went s-off last night to make the process easier. I suppose I don't mind flashing the GB patch. Thanks for the quick reply

Global RUU!

Alright. So I am still on the original GB firmware. I am running RezRom with Sense 4 (obviously an ICS rom) with the GB firmware patch.
I am also S-Off with JuopunutBear's 2.11 HBOOT.
I am looking to upgrade my firmware to maybe the global version 4.03.605.2 and I had my eye on upgrading my HBOOT.
What prerequisites do I need to have completely done before going about these procedures? I also am a bit confused on the firmware upgrade. The instructions seem pretty simple. I keep thinking I am missing something.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all.
bump for anything?
simple... just flash the OTA Released on Android Police.... Just remove from the zip the hboot/recovery and your good to go.
Your good to go man.

If you're sticking to the same rom you have now, you'll get no benefit from upgrading your firmware/hboot.
I am definitely going to flash a new rom. Probably the OEM one which is recommended with the new firmware. Is the newest hboot 2.24? Or 2.27.

Honestly if there is a new rom you are looking to move to because you like it, just flash the ruu, then flash recovery and install. I wouldn't suggest mixing radio's, hboot versions or you could run into data issues.
thank you guys for the quick replies. I guess I will just flash the RUU and the new recovery and then finally the new rom I want.
If you don't mind me asking...What are your guys' setups? New hboots? S-Off? Roms?

I was having 4g/3g switching issues where data would just drop until I toggled data, and was hoping that something in the new radios would help. I ran the ruu, installed recovery then restored to CleanROM DE. Not optimal, but it works and seems to actually improve some performance along with fixing my switching issues. Once a good senseless rom comes out I will jump on that and hopefully take advantage of the new firmware.

If you are s-off, just keep your bootloader UNLOCKED.
This is what I do.
There will be no need to relock to install leaked RUUs.
Also no need to install customized hboot. I keep the stock hboot that was installed by the RUU.
Custom hboots sounds like additional bricking risks and provide zero practical benefits at this time.
It is true that the custom jbear hboots can do more additional fastboot commands, but no developers are using them - not yet.
S-off and htcdev unlocked let's me fastboot flash kernels and recoveries.

K I'm thinking of updating radios and hboot now my radios are 1xxxxxxx and 1xxxxx my hboot though is 2.27 which if I'm not mistaken is the newest one? I know I have asked about this before but if I update will it brick if I am already on the newest hboot or will it not matter? I just want to make sure I know what I'm doing.
I understand that's how I do it but is it safe to if I'm already on 2.27 hboot. I'm sorry stang I'm just confused and is just something I remember being a problem from the incredible days.

I could be wrong but I believe the procedure involves downloading the RUU, opening the zip with an archive manager and just remove everything out of the RUU you do not want to update and then just close the zip, rename it and flash it in hboot. Don't try that until we can get a better answer though. Lets move this question over to the support thread.

So if you download the RUU and open it up with an archive manger like 7Zip you can see a bunch of files:

I think your supposed to remove everything but android-info.txt and radio.img and just close the zip, rename it to PH98IMG.zip and flash in HBOOT. I'd rather you not do this though until someone gives us a better answer as I rarely mess with radios and such. Things are quite a bit different than what they were on the Incredible.
Right on

I have installed a few different JB roms on my rezound and recently after installing this rom my notification drawer is not responding correctly. wWhen pulling down the drawer it stops at the date and the button for the quick settings and it just stays there and the hardware buttons are then unresponsive. Is this a known issue? I searched but didn't find any mention. It does this on any JB rom/kernel I have tried.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Hmm, yea that is definitely not normal and isn't a known bug, with this Rom at least. I'm assuming your Rezound is on the very latest firmware and you have followed the install instructions perfectly right? Are you using other kernels with this rom and thats what causing the problem, or does it do it on the stock kernel as well?
EDIT: Also does the bug continue if a different launcher is used like Apex, Nova, Launcher Pro or ADW EX?
I am s-off I am going to do an ruu and see if it is fixed. I have tried multiple Roms including yours ,shrike's, and Neo's, each with the kernel the ROM comes with. I had shrike's pacman for a while and it never had this issue.
Hboot-2.27.00 I'm sorry but where do I find the firmware info? Or does the hboot suffice?
Settings / About phone / Baseband version. Also I asked about the launcher. Does using a different one fix the problem?

The baseband version is 2.22.10.0801r, 2.22.10.0803r
I installed apex and it acts the same.

The only other reports I can find related to your issue were caused by defected screens on certain devices. The cause is slight screen lift at the top. The effect would be the Status bar could not be dropped down, could only sometimes be dropped down, or could be dropped down most of the time with a minor issue getting the shade to pull down ever so often. I'd suggest RUUing back to stock and if the issue is still there, send the phone in for repair or replacement.
Stang did you ever get a response or more info on me updating the baseband

I'm upgrading my firmware and radios as I'm still on a 1.x radio for some reason, and I'm downloading the RUU, checking the MD5 both on my SDcard and it matches, rename it to " PH98IMG.zip", I boot into Hboot and it checks the file for 30-45 seconds, then never asks me to upgrade? Any ideas?
Currently on Hboot 2.21.000 and radio 1.22.10.0310r/1.22.10.0300r. I am S-on but unlocked. Waiting to do this RUU, then S-off, then flash this rom.

Same thing is happening to me hollis, and I think it's because you're S-on. I saw a blurb somewhere that said to do the RUU you have to either be on the stock ROM or be S-off already.
I'm still S-on too. I looked into the JuopunutBear S-off procedure and it said a prerequisite was also that I be on the stock ROM 1st. So, do I have to somehow get my Rezound back to stock and off of the ViperRez ROM I'm on now, then do JuopunutBear, then do the RUU, then do a new recovery, then do CM10?

Figured it out, you have to relock your bootloader to install RUUs. Just installed the RUU... S-OFF next, then install CM 10.1

Using the bootloader I ran the RUU. It fixed the problem with the notification drawer. I tried your ROM and Neo's and there doesn't seem to be any problems.
Thank you very much for having this thread!

Ah that is good to see. Very happy it worked for you
okay, i can't seem to get the RUU to actually update and install for some reason, i dloaded it, checked the MD5 and renamed it. all it will do is recognize it, check it. and then stops there anyone able to point me to an instruction set (already tried and Dloaded Wildstang's)
