[Q] is my device rooted nt - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

My nt just updated and i thought rooted devices werent supposed to update and i wnet through all the steps of rooting and im running go launcher

Depending on what method you used, you may not have blocked OTA updates.
You can reroot with the SDcard root method though.

[Q] Rooted Will I Still B Able To Update to 2.1 the Regular Way?

What I mean is that, now I have rooted, will I always have to update to newer versions via this forum or will it update via SE Update service as it would have done before I rooted?
Cheers
Yea 100% sure you will be able to get all updates . rooting doesnt prevent you from getting updates . when your phone will get updates you will just lose the root since new update is being installed and old one is gone.So go ahead and root it

[Q] Rooting after latest OTA firmware update

My NT just updated to the latest firmware so I hve lost all ability to sideload apps.Up untill last night I was downloading and installing apks from the Amazon App store and loving it.My NT was NOT rooted just sideloaded and running Launcher Pro and Button Savior. My question is will rooting my NT after the OTA update restore my ability to install non Nook Store aps?I have found a great thread on rooting the NT using a Mac and wanna give it a try but if this won't give me that ability I'll just leave it be and not void my warranty. My wife gave it to me for Christmas and got the extended warranty so I really don' t want to root it unless it will fully unlock the device.
Thnax everyone.
To root the update, look for the thread about rooting 1.4.1 here in general. Otherwise you'll need to revert to 1.4.0, which I believe requires you to start from scratch.

As I understand it, the 1.4.1 with root involves reverting to 1.4.0, and then rooting, and then upgrading in a special way to 1.4.1, which will avoid losing root.

Doh ... you're right. I forgot about that part.

[Q] Question re root limbo on GT-I9300 post Kies firmware update

Hi, appreciate this is my first post and thus my question will be regarded with a certain amount of skepticism.. am only posting cos I think my issue is unusual and have not been able to find a similar question/answer through my searches on this forum
Basically, the issue is I rooted my Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) a month or so ago, installed clockwork mod and superuser etc,. however I held off flashing a ROM because I figured my OTA jellybean update was imminent and wanted to see what the touchwiz jellybean looked like before installing Cyanogen or another ROM. wasn't sure if the OTA would come thru once I shed the stock ROM
So I waited for weeks for the OTA (am on Orange, now Everything Everywhere, in the UK) and have not received it.. last week I went onto Kies and saw there was a new firmware update, so I updated thru Kies thinking that might be what was needed to receive the OTA JB update. updated the firmware but still no JB update - however, now when I check my root status on Root Checker, or try to use any app that requires root, I'm told that I don't have "proper" root access.
My question is updating the firmware over Kies, did that mess up my root access.. am I now unrooted? (this doesn't seem correct) It seems to me I am in a limbo of sorts - not properly rooted anymore, but not fully unrooted either. I want to root the thing again so I can install cyanogen or supernexus, and I would appreciate advice on what to do - should I do a factory reset and then root again as before, or will this cause issues.. was just gon soldier ahead and do it but aware that this may cause problems if my phone already has files from the previous attempt on there.. for example the SGS3 toolkit V.6.0.0 I'm using says not to proceed with its root operations on a phone "that's already rooted" so am hesitant to proceed. Any advice would be appreciated. cheers
You've lost root with the update, just root again and it's all good.

[Q] Can I upgrade original stock rom to 1.4.3 on Nook Tablet rooted with Zergy?

So I am not entirely clear on this, but I am wondering if I am able to use the B&N provided stock update to 1.4.3 on my Nook Tablet 16GB that was rooted a long time ago using the Zergy simple method.
I got this Nook Tablet the first Christmas they were out and had it rooted by early January using the no frills Zergy method (and the walk through video). This allowed me full root access to the Android 3 OS and disabled OTA updates. I have the 16GB Nook Tablet.
What I want to do is get the latest stock rom, 1.4.3 (which I have already downloaded to my computer), and install it on my Nook. But I don't want to brick it. The device does not have Clockwork on it or any other tools like that. I have been searching around the forum for some clarity on this, but haven't had the best of luck.
Can I just apply the update via the normal install method? Would that brick my device? Would that de-root my device? I realize that their are instructions on how to root that rom, I am just curious.
Do I need to install Clockworkmod or would there be a problem given the method I used to root it in the first place? Do I need to do a full wipe and revert back to stock before installing the update?
I'd suggest that you first try the update process as prescribed by B&N. If that does not work then try restore to stock (e.g., use flash_stock_1.4.2.zip at https://github.com/succulent/acclaim_recovery_sdcard) then retry the update.
You should back up your NT in its current configuration (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37515697&postcount=31) before trying the above.

rot with firmware 34.0.A.1.264

This is my first time trying to root a phone so sorry for noob question
I have build version 34.0.A.1.264 and it says the software it is up to date but I know it's not, Sony website says 34.0.A.2.xxx is available.
So should I try to update my phone or will the .img in the Xperia X root thread work even though it says it is for 34.0.A.1.277 devices ?
Also, will I be able to update OTA without losing root ?
Thank you !
Most OTA updates no longer work with root because they now work on a per-block (instead of per-file) basis, and will not run if any file on any updated partition was changed. You need to unroot and restore the system partition to the exact state it was before rooting, then install the OTA, then reroot. It might be easier to just flash a ROM with the OTA integrated.
