No Mods or Anything: Booting Problem. - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've tried to search my problem but I have yet to find a similar scenario. You see, my atrix has never been rooted, unlocked or anything. I've only ever downloaded apps for the market and thats as far as it ever has gone.
Just Yesterday, I tried turning my phone on. After 10 min of waiting at the Moto Boot Symbol (no exaggeration), my phone finally shows my lock screen. But heres the problem: I cant interact with the lockscreen! And, if I hit standby and go back, the screen just stays off! One other thing. I cant see my wallpaper from the lockscreen (perhaps thats some tell tale sign of some bug?).
I would really appreciate any help I can get. Honestly, I just want my pictures back from the phone. Is there a way of accessing my phone files without getting to the springboard? Worst case, I can send this device in for warranty repair. I just want my family photos back.
Somebody. Anybody. Please help

Hi Jev,
If you're willing to void your warranty (though, some people have gotten repair work after doing this anyway) you can do the following:
-unlock your bootloader
-install a custom recovery that lets you mount your USB from within recovery.
Obviously the end goal is to mount your phone's internal storage so that your photos can be preserved, but I can think of no way to do this with a stock phone, as you are only able to access standard functions and if you can't boot, you're out of luck.
Before you consider the above, make sure you've tried getting USB access while at the lockscreen. I can't remember if stock will go straight to USB storage mode or not. It's worth a shot. If that fails, your last option is my original suggestion. I would not advise sending the phone in, as they may factory reset your phone, potentially LOSING those precious photos.
If you choose to go forth, follow these directions WORD FOR WORD, up until the section titled "installing a custom rom."
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
Note: Once you've recovered those photos and voided your warranty, you might as well enjoy a nicer phone! If you like stock (motoBlur), I'd recommend giving NottachTrich4G a try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567241
If you like being involved with your phone, and have no particular attachment to Motorola's provided apps and restrictions, try out Neutrino rom (CM7): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398819
If feel bad for you, as your family photos are obviously important to you and you didn't do anything stupid (as far as we know ). I will send you a personal message with my email if you need any additional help. This will likely be the last time I look at this post so please, don't hesitate to email me.

ROM update

Hi guys
Little help needed.. I've had the phone since Aug 09. Had loads of problems with it, but have now decided after nearly a year to update phone as I've lost all notification lights, the charging light, etc. etc. It's not a great phone at the moment!
Donwloaded latest ROM from the HTC site, plugged in phone, and it wouldn't work. Something about the abl, or acb? Wouldn't connect properly when searching etc.
Anyway round it, Tried disconnecting from net, but figure it needs the connection. But didn't work either way.
Is the latest Orange update the one to go for? Does it help the lousy signal, the frozen text messages?
When it says you lose all data, can someone clarify that for me please? Numbers, Sim card info, Phone numbers info, Pics, Music, Email set ups? etc. etc.?
Thanks
Which ROM have you tried?
If you haven't tried it yet, try the VillainROM 12 I think its pretty stable.
Hi, its the latest one for Orange on the HTC forum, but that's not the problem.
It's the fact I can't get the programme to take. It's that ab thing that keeps stopping me and the ROM just exits..
If your ROM is rooted then you shouldn't install the HTC official updates, instead look at the developers forum here and try ROMs from there. For example VillainROM 12 and many others are based on the latest official HTC update.
If your ROM is not rooted, I am not sure what the problem is. Assuming you don't want to root it, maybe you can get support either from HTC or from the shop you bought it at.
Have you got the latest HTC Sync installed?
Hi
Thanks for your replies.
No, not rooted, not anything, since I got it 12 months ago. Other than plugging into pc to transfer pics which always worked. HTC sync? Not aware of?
Never updated Rom ever, but its given me so much grief over the last year, I get maybe 2 web pages and then it freezes for ages and the green line sits for 10 mins before another page. Is that the nature of this phone? Would an update make a difference to that problem?
I downloaded few apps the other night and removed them and now all lights notifications and charging lights don't work. Typing is so laggy and painful to do. Texts won't scroll for minutes...
I just can't understand how everyone says this phone is so great?
I know its a year old now but its always been like this.
Any help much appreciated.
Install HTC Sync and you're problems should go away, though you may need to boot into fastboot and install the driver for that too for the update to work. I can describe that if necessary.
Thanks again ...
Fastboot? Lost me on that one
What does the Rom update erase?
Will try this tomorrow and see if I can get sync on there
You lose everything, but considering the problems you're having this may not be a bad thing. You can backup certain data without root access (such as texts i believe) but that is about it. Check out SMS Backup & Recovery for that. HTC Sync will do contacts (though you should really be using Google contacts by now rather than phone or sim).
Having said that you should lose nothing on your SD card, but I would format that after putting the new system on just in case (so backup to computer etc).
I'll explain fastboot if it's needed. Post back detailed error messages if you get any after installing HTC Sync.
Thank you for your help. I will attempt that when I'm at home, can't do at work.
Forgot to ask, have many others had the phone switching itself off problem? It still does this, and only when you remove battery will it switch on again. No idea why, but you can press every button and nothing doing till battery is removed. Love to know what causes that...
I'm a great ad for this phone huh.

[Q] Galaxy S3 boof loop.

So, just want to say; I have pulled the battery out and left it out and such, can enter recovery and download mode.
The problem occured today when my friend had ahold of my phone and was checking out my apps and saw "Root Browser" and I said it browses all my files. I guess he wanted to see if he could find any form of porn on my phone. Any who, he fiddle farted around, foumd a document that was 157MB or 175MB and was like hey do you want to delete this? (my phone kept saying I only had 200mb freespace left and a bunch of files were taking up like 11GB idk how.) and I told him sure to get free space and he didn't say what the name was. He later told me it was firmware that he had deleted. But before I had any idea it was deleted I powered my phone off for about an hour or two and went to class. I turned it on, and it would vibrate ~3 seconds, say Galaxy S3 and then boot loop again, and won't go any farther. Is there any way to put firmware back on my phone with odin or anything? Because my parents have no idea my phone is rooted, so I really want to avoid contacting Verizon and trying to get a new phone. Also I want to try and keep all files. I could factory reset, but with common sense it's telling me that will delete every photo, text, contaxf etc.

Stuck in the Setup-Wizard on a stock device...

Hello,
Even though I found a lot of similiar problems and possible solutions for them,
none seemed to be suitable for my case.
My Phone:
Motorola Moto G2 with Android(either 4.4.4 or 6.0 sorry i dont know)
with SD-Card as internal storage
no root and with the stock bootloader locked
I will begin to describe my problem:
After accidentally tapping on a android app (the android head as icon - probably the setup wizard -) on my normally functioning phone, I got thrown into the setup sequence of the android setup-wizard, which is
unfortunately bugged and keeps crashing and restarting(-setup wizard has stopped-) no matter what. Any other action like using the home button(which disappeared) or access the dropdown menu is not possible and restarting or rebooting the phone wont solve the problem. The phone always starts in this setup-wizard.
So there are multiple Solutions to be found, but each of them either requires to have a rooted device or unlocked Bootloader or if not, factory reset the phone in order to install the above mentioned.
The thing is that I kinda gave up in getting my phone to work again since the only thing I seriously dont want to lose is the data, which im not able to extract anymore because I cant setup a ADB without access to settings or unlocked bootloader. And I am a big big dummy because I never did any backup on this device.
What really bugs me is that the phone still seems to function just fine(for example it still makes noises when I (probably) receive a message ) but its impossible to leave that damn setup-wizard.
I apologize for any dumb stuff or typos I just wrote, which are probably the result of a lot of exhaustion and despair.
I hope anyone can suggest a way to get to my data or even solve the problem.
Thanks in advance!

I don't have this device but, the following area of the forum is specific to your device.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014
With that guidance...
You should be able to obtain some member guidance within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device as well.

UNLESS asked to do so, PLEASE don't PM me regarding support. Sent using The ClaRetoX Forum App on my SM-G900V device.
OK, fixed it thank god
I will write down my solution in case that anyone faces the same problem and isnt
able to use advanced root/bootloader methods.
My Hero was a little "glitch" in the wizard, where you could partially leave it by
establishing a new network and write done something random to mark it and then
press share. afterwards you can try different applications which are shown to somehow reach the settings which is your golden goal. Gmail worked for me but it was really a back and forth till I somehow ended up in the playstore and then opened the settings application(if its not in the playstore try to open a launcher like Nova launcher or Google Now). If you managed to reach that point its nearly done.
just find the setup-wizard in your applications (systemapps) and give it ALL the rights it needs(should be phone and contacts). I have stopped him additionally but I dont think that added up anything. After that is done just hold the power button till its off and after the restart the setup wizard should be able to detect ur google account and finish his job.
Thank god there are glitches out there.
But as far as I found out alot of glitches get patched sooner or later so...yea:silly:

Regain access to old data of mine

//Sorry for double posting. This same text is in the S7 section aswell, but i think it will get more attention here
Hey Guys
Im in a bit of a situation here
It sounds a bit odd, but when making up my electronic stuff, i dug out my old Galaxy S7 and several other phones and i got a bit nostalgic about those times and what i did back then.
So i started charging them up and scrolling to the photos and messages of that time. (im not the type of guy who has everything synced, i mostly start from scratch on a new phone).
However on this device, i was not able to figure out the PIN Code nor the Google Account i was using back then.
So i am now trying to get access to this data by working around the pin code or something like that.
I thought that with the ADB shell i could do this and i found some hints on google about it. However as it looks, you need to have USB debugging enabled to get the shell access. Which of course i haven't and i cannot set as i am not able to get into the system the usual way.
There is no custom recovery or similar flashed on the device. Stock. I might even have wiped it back then but just curious And searching solutions for problems like that is in my nature.
So does anyone know a way how to get there?
I am not interested about the os or something, just my old personal data.
Is unlocking through odin still a thing? and can i get a custom recovery on the device that way WITHOUT loosing the data on the phone? so through that recovery i cloud get a shell to bypass the lockscreen?
Or is there just no solution to that?
I found that there is some SD Card installable flashes to bypass the lockscreen, but here i would first have to buy an SD Card. Since this is just a project i dont want to waste money. Do you guys know if this works for sure? I mean, can i even install this tool without a custom recovery? I have the menu option to apply updates from sd card in the standard recovery, just not sure if this does the trick.
Any other approach?
And yeah, i would probably find it out one day by just trying the codes, but it locks you for 60 minutes after every try now, so this would take ages ^^
no clues?

Remove / Reset PIN on Rooted Device?

Hey folks,
OK, I'm just a little bit out of my depth here, so here it goes!
This probably sounds dodgy, but it is what it is: my daughter's phone (rooted HTC Desire 816) appears to have been "hacked" by someone at her school - whether its a prank gone wrong or she's a victim of bullying, we don't know and now we're dealing with the fallout.
By hacked what I mean is that the person or persons have somehow managed to find out my daughter's PIN and have then used it to gain access to her phone. Once in, they have turned off the custom lock screen installed (Hi Locker) and turned on the default lock screen and set a PIN which we don't know. Obviously, we're trying to get back into it without wiping it and don't know how to except for trying all 10,000 combinations!
So yeah, does anyone know how I might be able to go about getting back into the phone quicker than trying all 10,000 combos of PINs!?
Like I said, it is a rooted device; I was the one who initially set the phone up for my daughter. So its running TWRP and through TWRP I've been able to do an 'ADB Pull' request and dump the contents of external_sd and sdcard to my laptop so that at least that much data is preserved. I've also backed up the mmssms.db so that hopefully I can restore these databases if needs be. My daughter would like to not have to wipe the phone as she can't remember what other data (if any) might be lost if we do and I said I would try all other avenues before it gets to that.
Anyhow, I thought I would reach out to the community to find out if there is some way that I might be able to disable the lock screen or at least initiate some sort of backup process from the lock screen that would enable us to reset the lock screen. If not: such is life. But, if there is something that could be done, well, that would just be absolutely fantastic.
Thanks in advance folks for your responses and time.
Kind regard,
Dodgy Bob.
Hi folks,
After a bunch of further digging through random blogs and YouTube videos and whatever else, I happened across this site which pointed out a couple of different tricks that hadn't popped up on other sites I had come across. These were:
Safe Mode Option; and
adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key
Safe Mode Option didn't work for me, because it wasn't the 3rd party lock screen app that was the issue.
However, the gesture.key option did work for me, albeit with a couple of tweaks! Gesture.key wasn't present because the phone is running a newer version of Android, v6.0 (I had forgotten this!), so I had 2 gatekeeper files and 3 db files -and- rather than deleting them, I added .orig to the file names. Once I had done this, I rebooted back into System from Recovery and ta-da, I was back into the phone!
Big thanks to @Helloworld294 for this post here which I found after searching more due to reading this page.
It's all worked out in the end.
Kind regards,
Dodgy Bob
