Under Android sync, what's the difference between Google Photos and Picasa Web Albums - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I upload photo's from my computer to Picasa Web using Picasa, where they are stored in my Google Plus space.
Under my account sync settings in Android, along with Gmail and Contacts and all that, I've got "Sync Google Photos" and "Sync Picasa Web Albums".
What's the difference between these two choices?

I was wondering the same thing too.

I believe this quote/link should help half of your question.
Android 4.0 devices have a system setting that allows you to Sync Google Photos.
This setting enables syncing of your Google Photos from your web albums to your device's Gallery app. As a result, if you have a large number of photos in your web albums that have been uploaded through Picasa Web Albums or Google+, you may notice a high amount of battery or data usage during this sync.
This setting also enables or disables sync for Instant Uploads to Google+. However, to enable Instant Upload, you must enable Sync Google Photos as well as enable Instant Upload within the Google+ app.

In Picasa you can upload photos at the original size, with Google+ it will resize & compress it whether you want it or not. Not what I want

Good Photo Syncing App?

So I'm coming from an iPhone. I've always liked how iTunes kept my photos synced on my iPhone so that I could pull it out and show people some new shots and what not. Is there any way to do this with Android?
Keep your photos on picasa, then under accounts and sync make sure sync photos is checked...
All of your picasa albums will then show up in your gallery...so you don't need an app, Google does this natively.

Deleting instant upload photos, without deleting from albums

Hello,
I've had my instant upload on in my HTC incredible S since long time. In the beginning I was going to Picasa web and moving instant upload photos to relevant albums.
Later I realized that if I do this, this photos don't show up in picasa instant upload anymore, but they still show up in google+ -> Photos -> Instant upload.
After this, lets say at the date X, I started doing the arrangements in google+. Since then I simply add photos to albums from google+, then delete them from the instant upload folder in picasa. Like this they don't show up in google+ instant upload, but they stay in the albums.
However, the photos from before the date X are both in my google+ instant upload and in the albums. I can't delete them from google+, otherwise they are deleted from albums, I can't delete them from picasaweb, because they don't show in picasaweb.
I know that I'm just being obsessive in keeping my instant upload clean, but is there a way to remove them from instant upload, but not from albums?

[Q] Hig-res contact pictures

I noticed that the picture on my contacts are very low resolution and appear pixelated. Is there any way too fix it?
Thanks
Are you using Google to sync contacts? If so try a picture from the phones memory and see if that helps.. Btw I sync with Google but no problems. Are you using full screen caller pics?

I have this same issue, only with me it happens with 4 contacts (2 pairs of folks with the same names) and their photos appear small and pixelated whilst others are larger, crisper and sharp.
I cant seem to figure out why this happens - cant be an issue with the matching names conflicting in the contacts database??

@gc1984
Are you using Facebook to sync your contacts photos? If so:
-go into the app>app settings>scroll near the bottom and un-check sync contact photos.
-exit the app
-go to settings and scroll down to the accounts section, add a new account
-Choose xperia with Facebook (by default this should sync hi-res contact photos and calendar (you can turn either or both on/off)
Using the facebook app account to sync contact photos will provide low-res. Using xperia with facebook will provide hi-res.

I currently have both accounts for this set up. For the majority of my contacts, the images are ok but i cannot shake the feeling these 4 instances are due to my contacts having the same name. But cant figure that out.
I have stopped my Facebook App Sync now so will try and refresh and see what happens with the Xperia Facebook account still active and see how i get on.

When I had both accounts syncing contacts (Facebook and Xperia with Facebook) some contacts would show the hi-res and some the low-res. When I edited the contact photo I could see both the hi-res and low-res available.
Once I disabled the Facebook account contact sync and kept the Xperia with Facebook contacts syncing, and waited a few minutes, only the Hi-Res photos were showing.

No you shouldn't have to, but give it some time to refresh, especially if you have a lot of contacts. I noticed with mine that while it was downloading images, if I went to a contact that still had a low-res photo and went into the contacts details, a few seconds later the image would update to high-res.

Managed to get to WiFi last night after stopping the Facebook App Sync and the issue still remained. I even sync'ed the Xperia Facebook once again and the issue remained.
I then decided to remove my Facebook account from my phone and recommence the process of adding Xperia Facebook account. However this did not allow all my contacts to be sync'ed from Facebook, so I had to resort to using both the Xperia Facebook and Facebook app running.
I then went through all my contacts and what you described above occurred - the blurred images became sharper when viewing the contacts. it was just a case of going through my list and allowing them to become Hi-res and the problem was solved.
A bit long winded but I am happy this worked for me. Still no real idea why it occurred in the first place and also why it only happened to contacts with the same names....very strange indeed!
Thanks for the help!!

You are quite welcome, and I'm glad it worked out, though the process was sluggish. In the end it's worth it because the hi-res contact photos look a world better.
Thanks for reporting back for others.
Worked for me too! Thanks
Hello, I had problems with this too, and I finally used HaxSync, but after I removed facebook app

sync photos to different google accounts?

Hi there,
It it possible to sync different photos to different google accounts? For example, for some of my photos, when I take them, I'd like them to back up to my personal google account. Some photos are for work, and I would let them to sync to my work google account. Some photos are for a side business, and I would like those photos to go to that business account.
I was thinking maybe making multiple users on my phone? That seems excessive.
Alternatively, is there a way to have pictures sync directly into a google photos album, and if so, is there an easy way to switch the sync album on the fly? If so, I could just use a single google account and have a "personal" album, a "work" album, and a "side business" album.
