Ultimate Rom - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

For me, the ultimate rom would be the reliability and battery of stock, the USB tether option from stock too but with the CM7 theme engine.
What would your Ultimate Rom be?

A very good balance between battery, performance, looks and customization. I would obviously love stock battery. Performance can be better than stock for sure. I like the way stock roms look, cm7 adw is not so smooth really, cm9 looks cool. And as for customization....some roms have "Power button ends call" enabled by default and it cannot be disabled, I do not like that....small customizations matter a lot.
Waiting for Maclaws AOKP, it will probably have all of the above.

I wasn't talking about CM7 adw. I'm talking about all those different themes you can install for any CM7 rom in general. Not just the launcher.
As for performance, 0 scripts for me. Ram Manager has me covered no matter what rom I'm using . Oh and I NEED apps2SD too.

Ultimate rom Hmmm... Good battery of course
Great customization
Agree zero scripts ram manager is the best
Visual is fine because in the end it's the theme and launcher we use
Barebones I like my own different apps for different purposes
Basically a 10 hour battery with optimal usage no compromises

hmm
cm9 with touchwiz from sgsIII + folders on app drawer
and that it has highly customisable ui

Mine would be one to dominate the world with a single swipe.

A miracle for this phone would be to be able to run Sonic the Hedgehog 4 without lag + be able to last for at least a day with 3G

My ultimate rom are when u enjoy the rom and love the developers who made that
IM NOT SPAMING . IM ASKING THIS IS A FORUM SITE **** U

well for me, as already mentioned, stability and battery from stock,.performance from cm with no scripts, error free kernel and wide range of themes to choose from

my dream rom at the moment would be a stock DDKQ8 rom, with all useless applications removed and some minor tweaks. i tried looking for a barebone ddkq8 rom but could find one :/

stocklitev6 barbones ddkq8

my ultimate rom would be one that
1. works
2. can answer calls
3. has working wifi and bluetooth
4. can manage internal storage space
5. has a battery that lasts more than 5 hours with moderate use
getting seriously pi$$ed off trying to find a rom that just functions properly. have went through a good few at this stage and just want a stable rom that doesnt take ages to load up, that doesnt reboot for no reason and that doesnt freeze and tell me adwlauncher is not working. currently on kangs cooper after going from cooper nightly and from some other CM7.2 before that.

Highly recommend Stocklite V6. Only problem I had was because my SD was corrupted and had problems reading apps from SD so I had to do a full phone wipe and format SD.
You could say this rom is almost my ultimate rom. But its missing the CM7 theme engine :'(
Also, I got 12hrs on 3G the other day 122-806 Smartass V2. Moderate use too.

Stocklitev6 is a great ddkq8 rom no doubt. It's best when it comes to stock. For me battery sucks while using EDGE. 5-6 hours hardly while using internet.

How is that even possible? 3G consumes like 3x as much battery as edge. Unless you're using your phone during the full 5-6 hrs non stop, then yeah. That's explainable.

might give the stocklite6 a go so!

I say bald eagle
I am using it for a long time since its out
Good enough for me
Watching movies on int can hold up to 12 hours

just on stocklite, is it possible to use s2e to move the dalvik cache to the sd card? or can any other app do the same thing?

Yeah dude, it has A2SD. Just download A2SD GUI from the market and you're all set. I promise you won't regret it. Also, delete all other scripts besides A2SD in the ini folder. The dev made a mistake putting those in and he now recommends to remove them which will also result in your booting time decreasing drastically to almost instant.
Install Ram Manager instead and set it to Balance (More Multitasking) and you won't get any lag at all. Well, I don't. That's if you're running on 122-806 Smartass V2 as well just like I am. Then you'll be all set
If you follow what I've said, you won't look for another rom for a LONG time.

What so there isn't enough of a selection of roms or something?

"Off-topic: Should I release my super-light stock ROM? (no, it's not the same with Wolfbreak's and others, it is very light with minimal tweak/modification)"
yes you should.
Nice work man,
Haven't tested extensively, but in the 10 mins or so I've been playing with this ROM on my wife's phone, it's been just as GV is on my Desire - fast, smooth and pleasant to use.
The only bug to report is quiet audio recording using the videocamera but this seems to be present in all X10 ROMs ATM (WB/Ultima/TEAM/Superoxygen/Ewjet), so is certainly not a criticism of this ROM - if that could be fixed though, then this ROM would be perfect (hint hint!!)
A great release, thank you for this
- Works on either locked/unlocked bootloader
Yeah, i have a locked bootloader...so that made me happy.
I loved spaarc original one, and so if this is that with fixes and what not....I will definatley love this one. Only problem so far...is on DoomKernel battery seems to be draining rather fast...will reboot wipe stuff and edit post with update.
EDIT: after reboot and wiping ...seems good again. If not will use default one...cuz rom is fast enough with or without custom kernel.
Nice rom there. always wanted to see malysian chef.. *flashing* will report if got bug.
I just installed your ROM and so far I am happy with it. I have been trying all kinds of ROM this week on both my handset.
Would unlocking the BL allows this to run better?
Is it possible to put a std SEMC camera program?
How much free memory do we really need?
Thx.
Whenever battery percentage changes whole notification bar flickers. This is of course with cyanogenmod statusbar tweaks battery percentage shown.
Phone gets hot when doing things like browsing and playing games. Battery was usually cool with spaarc original cm7 barebones version.
Wifi sometimes never reconnects. Manually have do it through settings.
Are you going to maintain this rom or was this a one time update....I would like for you to continue working on this.....if possible thanks
What happened to your Leaf ROM? Or is that ROM is the one you wanted to release?
Hey, post some screenshot lah !

1. No, it doesn't.
2. No, it's not possible so far.
3. Not much. Shouldn't be any problems since this ROM is smaller than most ROMs out there.

1. Does this notification bar flickering happen in the original GV ROM?
2. I don't get that problem myself, so I can't check.
3. Same as above
4. If I find something I can fix, I will update it.

It is originally for the Wildfire (Leaf r3) but since I switched to the X10, I thought I'd make one. So yes, that's the ROM I wanted to release.
Oh, and, stuff will go slow since I've got my final exam trials going on.
Also, if you guys use DooMKernel, battery will drain fast since deep sleep is not working in the current version.
What do you mean DooMKernel has drainage? You mean unlocked devices would have battery drainage?

Unlocked bootloaders and running a custom kernel are two different things.
Unlocking the bootloader itself won't do anything. It's caused by the custom kernel you were able to install due to the unlocked bootloader.
I have no idea if original gv rom does the flickering unless you are talking about the first one by spaarc, and then the answer is no. Not that I remember. Also seems as if battery drains fast the first 5%....I'm on doomkernel so u can ignore that. Could add torch cuz if I flash it all it does is force close everytime.
Edit: just after posting this comment got wlod. Happened on spaarcs original one as well, same situation.

RE the torch,
If you get the torch.apk and add it to the ROM zip (system\app), then reflash the ROM, the torch works fine, even from the widget button in the notification bar.
RE the battery/WLOD,
Using stock kernel the battery life is really good and no WLOD or even force closes. The ROM runs really smooth
I will hit thanks when at PC. So far so good with your instructions.
Edit. When playing music it stutters sometimes.....annoying. flashed audio fix...better now.
Battery drain on stock seems alright...will give it a couple of days. No wlod so far.
Thought I would make this a new post, to bump this ROM/thread up.
EDIT 2: Okay battery life is now back to being wonderful. On stock kernel. Still quite fast. Audio stuttering can be SORTA fixed with audio lag fix zip by Z. No WLOD so far, probably had WLOD due to being on DoomKernel (never overclocked it though).
-Maybe add torch to ROM, I added it to the ROM zip like wildcardspv said to do...and it works.
-WiFi pain in the butt. Will NOT reconnect to WiFi after disconnected while in deep sleep. I have to manually go in and reconnect.
-Possibly add some extra governors...such as SmartASS v2, InteractiveX.
-Notification bar flickers when battery percentage changes.
-Any use of a live wallpaper slows down ROM alot.
Tried to think of other things. But to be honest...can't. This ROM is actually one of the best ones out there. WiFi is my only BIG gripe...but apart from that kinda perfect.
For the wifi issue, have you set wifi sleep policy to never? (Settings, wireless and networks, wifi settings, menu, advanced, wifi sleep policy, never) - had my wifes set like this and no wifi problem.
She also had the audio stutter and unfortunately its for that reason she's had to come away from this rom for now and gone back to spaarc's superoxygen 2.0.3 which is almost identical but haven't experienced any problems with it at all (using stock kernel).

Both the ROM s are made by me ,
So it is but natural that both are identical

MIUI 1.12.9 Fascinate/Mesmerize Rom UPDATE..12/13/11

This is a build ported from a vibrant setup, some tweaks that dfgas incorporated into the last few builds, some extra tweaks from here and there, and extended settings built in. It is very smooth and fast after letting it settle in for a bit.
Let me know how it is for you. You can wipe data or just cache and dalvik...I do all 3...enjoy.
Thanks to anyone that has a hand in developing for the fascinate / mesmerize...the list would be too long to write!
-as of 1.12.9...
-#911 issue fixed (thanks sbrissen, dfgas, & anyone else involved)
-modified default transparent lockscreen...live wallpapers show through lockscreen
-new 1.12.9 Fascinate link...
http://db.tt/enasc1vs
-new 1.12.9 Mesmerize link...
http://db.tt/LHY0AeKk
-as of 1.11.25...
-includes Glitch V13 kernel with working 3 button recovery (with updated screenstate scaling fix)
-new option of miui app drawer
-pick setup, then enable, wait a couple seconds for drawer to load up, then swipe down from top of screen slightly lower than status bar to pull down drawer (almost right at bottom edge of status bar)...takes a little getting used to swipe area as it is very small.
-new options of hiding signal bars and headset icons
-new option of appdrawer background color
-new "on the fly" statusbar layout switching (no need to refresh statusbar anymore)
-new options of autostarting appdrawer
-charging animation it top bar fixed
Here is a link to the v6 supercharger thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18703418&postcount=5021
I would suggest installing the latest supercharger script...http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=792186&d=1322022964 and the app script manager...http://market.android.com/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager
Download both, change the supercharger scripts name from .pdf to .txt, install script manager, go into script managers options and turn on browse as root, then navigate to the directory you downloaded the supercharger script to within the app, click on it, select run as root, then run. Follow the scripts prompts, and as a suggestion, I use option 7. This makes the phone fly even faster at all times even with many apps open. I would have incorporated this into the rom, but the developer would rather you visit the thread to get it.
Downloading now. Thanks!
First impressions:
(Background: Wiped all three from "mounts and storage" menu)
Appears to be based off of MIUI Android (UK port of MIUI) as opposed to MIUI.US. Not sure what diffferences (if any) apply other than the bootani and background. Amiright?
Extended settings built-in is quite awesome.
Noticed MiuiCompass wasn't in there (but DSP Manager was...awesome again). Attached in case you don't have the apk and want to add it in the future.
MMS sent over 3G on first try.
I am not sure which market you bundled with it, but I always go in and remove marketUpdater and add back in the old vending.apk. (This isn't a criticism, just something I do that might be good to know in case I have future issues that may be caused by that mod...I know I am probably rare in liking the old market.)
So far so good. Now I just need to grow a pair and figure out how to swap kernels in the zipfile so I can throw Glitch v13RC1 in there; at which point I'll truly have my "Flash one-and-done".
Great work, Rick S. Can't wait for the full list of changes/tweaks! Thanks again.

Compass.apk should be in there, but thanks anyway. Basically if porting from a "stock" setup, roms wont differ very much at all, but another difference is that the reboot options are capitalized. I would love to have glitch v13 in there, but its not publically released yet. I do install it on mine though. All you need is the boot.img and the lib/modules folder...modules need to match boot.img that was built.

I wasn't suggesting you put V13 in there. I was just commenting on my own lack of courage to do it myself more than anything. Thanks for the tip though.
Been installing apps and such basically nonstop since install and listening to music on it. No issues. I did update to Glitch v12RC1 right off the bat as well.
So far, this seems to be about as stable as the 9-16 release which has been my fall-back. I've had the fewest issues with that one. Hopefully this one will be my new 9-16. (Will find out when I get home and see how it handles the wifi/3g handoff that seems to have been causing the most problems on the latest few roms for me)

Looks great Rick...thanks again. I had issues with the other '11' roms so far and was back on the 10.28. And also big.thanks for the easy instructions for installing super charger....I couldn't get then to stick a month ago....no problems this time ( used your suggestion....will tweak later after I settle in) only issue is google+ fc at start up. I don't use it so not a huge deal.....will uninstall and install new......phone is flying.
Edit: Re-install of Google+ did the trick. Can't believe how fast and smooth this phone is running now.
Thanks for the responses. Im going to update some MIUI mods and put links in the op soon...launcher mod and screen transitions are some.

Sorry about that...my gmail seems to work fine though. I used JT's 3 button recovery fix kernel because its probably the most used throughout various roms. It doesnt have bln. You can flash any kernel you like though and it will work fine as long as the kernels allows for it.

GSM and CDMA roms/kernels aren't cross compatible. The phones share a name, that's it, they're pretty different when you get down to the nuts and bolts (or silicon and copper.)

"Hmmm. I just had huge success flashing jt's 3ButtonFix.zip kernel over the 1.11.4, making big improvements in battery and GPS. But this is an upgrade, using the same kernel, even though my current ROM is working fine. Hmmm..." thinks the flash junkie as he tries to pretend he might not go ahead and flash this anyway.
Edit: Of course I flashed it, with the script. Running great. Overnight, battery stays in high 90s.
All I can say is wow!! This is by far the most responsive miui build I've ever used, running the script on setting seven as suggested running glitch v13 ml OC`d to 1440..very smooth, plus have all the reboot options again nicely done, thanks much sir!

I actually ported the MIUIScotland 1.11.9 ICS framework I9000 rom to the fascinate. It seems the only difference are a couple added files within the framework and a few files elsewhere, along with the version number in the build prop. Its not even worth playing with though. There are no noticeable differences anywhere. Waist of time just in case anyone was wondering or has heard of it.

Need help, new with Android and everything

Hi guys, I'm coming from an iOS iPhone 4 device to a Samsung Galaxy S2, So far I'm very satisfied by the performance of the device, the freedom of choice and let's just sum it up, Really happy about the switch.
Anyway can you guys recommend me some Battery saving tips?
What Kernels do you guys use, and that are battery life efficient, and do not sacrifice performance,
I'm running on 4.0.3 Stock ROM
I don't and will not switch from a regular Sammy rom, for certain reasons.
Thank you very much and sorry if I'm OT..
Hi, my first bit of advice is to learn how to flash roms and get your phone rooted!
I'm using a rooted, stock ROM from wanam and I've no complaints.
Once your rooted, the best app I've used for battery saving is called 'autostarts'. It allows you to control when an app starts (for example the google plus app starts after pretty much any event-like connecting a power cord for example).
Using just this app my overnight drain (11 pm to 7 am) went from 16% down to 8%.
The majority of battery monitors I've used just give you the 'feeling' you're saving battery on my experience!

Yes, Phenomenal kernel is very good :asd:
There are a lot of custom rom based on the stock samsung rom that add useful features. I reccommend this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498017

I've flashed my device with the Medium because for some reason the extreme won't boot up my device, I have a "cation" sign under my Phones name, anyway I noticed some apps appear on my device, "Superuser" and "CWM" That means my phone is rooted?
I recommend you to use the WanamLite ROMs (they are the stock ROMs with very few and essential tweaks, and root access). I'm using Fluxi kernel, but I'm using Paranoid Android, which is NOT a Sammy ROM.
Now, in order to save battery you can undervolt the processor, lock it to never go beyond certain speed (i.e 1GHz), use low brightness, disable automatic sync, use 2G, etc...
Hope I helped, and welcome to the wonderful Android world

Congrats on making the move from an OS that are you are told what you can & can't do to an OS that YOU tell what you want to do.
Always leave data network mode as deactivated unless you need it. Go into Settings>Wifi and click the menu button (soft key to the left of the home button) and click Advanced. Then under the option Wifi on during sleep select Never (or Only while charging). As a few other users stated, use auto brightness. Where you can, use the Application Manager widget on your home screen. If the number goes above 0 then you should click on it and kill the app (and clear the Ram as well for good measure. If you can, also use a static wallpaper instead of a live wallpaper, and also use black or dark colours as much as you can. Also open up your dialler and dial *#9900# and something called Sys Dump opens up. There is an option there called Disable Fast Dormancy. Press it to disable it.
I can't think of anymore at 11:35pm!
As for kernels, stock Samsung is all I use. Lots of people on XDA seem to use Cyanogenmod, CF-Root or Siyah.
Good luck and enjoy your freedom. :victory:
You can't practically do anything to save juice but installing some battery monitoring apps like Better Battery Stats, Watchdog etc. Just monitor what apps are causing Wakelocks or misbehaving, then disable the Sync in them.
And PLEASE DO NOT install any crappy apps, Play Store is full of them.
Oh, Android's biggest juice hogger is those ads, so install AdAway and remove those nonsense ads.
Good Luck.
First thing post in the correct forum. Second asking for whats better for "x" or "y" is not allowed as its relative to each person. So for that I will be locking this thread.

[Q] Xperia Mini Pro gets sluggish after a few days of use. What to do?

Hi,
I have an Xperia Mini Pro running stock 4.1.B.0.587 with MESA kernel 3.5. I have frozen/uninstalled quite a few of the bundled applications and I have replaced the default launcher with Nova Launcher Prime. After a reboot, the phone is quite snappy and fast, no lag when redrawing and everything is working very nicely together. However, after a few hours to a day of use, it gets quite sluggish: slow redraws, animations stutter, apps block/hang for a few seconds etc.
I would like to investigate this further, but I'm not quite sure of how to proceed. One thing that I have seen is that if I go Settings->Apps->Running, after a few hours to a a day of use, there are a few applications or services which say "restarting".
Do you guys have any ideas on what's going on?
Thank you!
One think I would suggest you is to debloat your phone as much as possible and then search for more ways!
Press THANKS if I helped,
Best Regards,
AJ
Hello,
Thank you for replying. I have already done that, there are few applications which I kept from the stock ROM. What else can I do?
Cheers,

No, I'm not using any task killer or other system tuning apps, just the stock ROM without the bloatware. Otherwise, I use "normal", day-to-day apps.

This is not a solution, thank you.
You can try pimp my rom alpha from play store to add some tweaks and scripts to make your phone faster
Sent from my Xperia Mini Pro using xda premium
Yep pimp my Rom is good....also try some awesome tweaks of project fluid by mv_style and also the v6 supercharger, etc...that will make ur Rom faster but you can't anyhow expect very much from the stock Rom but u can always depend on custom roms based on stock if you want...

Thank you for the suggestion, I'll try it one of these days. Any other ideas, guys?
Use Android Assistant (18 features) and clean the cache. Do it often, ICS really generates a lot of cache compared to GB.
Though the best thing to do would be to flash a GB rom if you want your phone to be really smooth :good:
Simply restarting the phone will do the job!
Restart it once every (two) day(s).
or
Change the minfree and ADJ settings.
EDiT: check your vfs_cache_pressure value
If it's low, set a higher setting. MESA kernel sets it to 30, which is quite low and causes lags at the end of the day.
You can try to raise it to default stock 100 and see if that helps
Code:
echo "200" > /proc/sys/vm/vfs_cache_pressure;
Flash a custom ROM. Usually they last longer without lag then stock ROM.
Also another solution is, you can try my X-PLODE tweaks. I think it should really boost your phone since it's on stock ROM.
Based on my experience after flashing almost EVERY available ROM and kernel on my st15i, I can suggest:
1. Use a memory manager like Smart RAM, Autokiller Memory Optimizer etc.
2. Use a cache cleaner app and set it to clear cache once or twice a day.
3. Use an app like SystemCleanup (free) and delete any system app you don't use or like.
4. You can send apps like your custom browser (I strongly suggest Nova) or GPS app to /system/app/ via SystemCleanup.
5. Flash custom kernel (I strongly suggest LuPuS or MESA Hybrid).
6. Find a light and fast custom ROM that suits your needs and flash it.
7. Enjoy. The power of Android is in your hands !
Thank you, everyone, for taking the time and answering me.

Thats some pretty awesome stats even for a stock GB
And Now I present to you gentlemen then infamous flatline which I have been searching for
Overnight discharge 0%
App which I think made it possible.
Greenify
And various In ROM tweaks.
One whole week of full charge to full discharge. Combined with the app mentioned & tweaks in ROM I could achieve a flatline(meaning 0% discharge) when the screen was off. But the problem is when the screen came back on battery dropped 1% every 15-20 Mins(with net turned on)
Stock ICS rom .431 with a LOT of mods
Starting: 100%
Daily use with most of time wi-fi on and some Youtube use.
I achieved my perfect ROM

Sure!
Well i did a lot of things but those which concern battery use were:
-After some trying other roms i noticed that .431 had better battery use and a lot of mods so i choose this one to make my perfect rom.
-Removed all bloatware and even some non bloatware system apps that i dont use (taken from several threads like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614761
, I experimented freezing some apps that i thought werent necessary but i didn t want to delete, like clockserivice.apk or even semcalendar.apk
-Installed New xperia JB 4.2 Adreno libs for our little arm cpu.
-Ive tried Greenify but it doesnt seem to work for me.(but my mini pro doesnt need it , its super fast)
-Most recently ive frozen SystemUI service "LoadAverageService" Which seems to take some unecessary RAM Use. (i havent had any problem)
-I've searched for those apps that are light , fast and RAM friendly (Nova launcher, quickpic, whatsapp+ , google keyboard, etc)
(replaced sony camera app with JB camera sony camera had some thumbnail bug)
-I dont use Facebook app everytime i install it my phone slows down.
-Moved most of apps to sd via ext partition ( Link2sd) ive only left in internal those one that i really need to be responsive like the app launcher
Also fixed most problems with .431 rom like the LED and some other things i really cant remember ( ive had this rom for so much time , that level of satisfaction i have)
In things not related to battery:
-Installed Stock AOSP FUll Black SystemUI (I love the JB UI) (modded by me to have a clock) from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840580.
-JB 4.3 Font
-JB animation

Thanks I will try it to .587 on my mini. About the link2Sd, does it lessen the memory card life when used.
How did youdisable the LoadAverageService? Titanium backup?

As far as i know yes it does but i personally dont think it will be that much to not use link2sd.
With this app

Under system apps > systemui > uncheck loadaverageservice

I tried the disable service app, and disable the loadaverageservice, but with the extent that the disableservices app is having 12mb on the ram. Is it still worthy to use it?
And I also see that google services app has many running services, is there any safe to disable?

This is the thread where i got the trick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2372363 maybe you can look for more opinions , for me its worth it as it doesnt affect any functionality in my sk17
About disabling google services , do some research (or crazy experiments  ) about what does it do every running service you would like to stop. I still dont have knowledge enough to recommend mingling with that services and i totally wouldnt recommend it.
cheers friend
