Bootloader unlock not allowed - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

I have a Neo V which I bought specifically because I thought I would be able to unlock the bootloader and install CM9 but I have gone to unlock the bootloader and it says: "bootloader unlock allowed: no".
Is this normal? Is there a workaround for this? Can I use the testpoint?
I really want to get off the stock firmware since it's ****.

You need setool or omnius to sort it, both are paid services

Well looks like I'm never buying a Sony Ericsson phone again.
Both these services look incredibly dodgy, are there any guides on how to actually use them?

lol, dodgy?
if anything they are not dodgy, at least not setool..
I would advise to find someone with SETool box and do it over the web. There are even user here at XDA, and people are satisfied with their service.

Read first post, he say his phone is locked, sim-locked.

There's nothing dodgy about omnius either it works perfectly, I did mine with it at the last freebie session at easter.
With se tool there is someone remotely connected to help you through.
With omnius your on your own, but it shows you what to do, also read the sticky on unlocking by test point, because both methods require test point.
If you want it unlocked now, pay or just wait am sure there'll be other free periods

Yeah my Samsung Galaxy Spica could run whatever I wanted.
Since you are saying it is a sim lock is this the fault of T-Mobile?
I guess I'm going to have to pay, such a nice phone with such a terrible ROM.

Why you buy then a Sony Ericcson?? And no not a terrible rom, its the standard from Sony, there are enough best roms creators around here, even for locked bl and no its standard by every network, buy you SE simlock free next time, like i do, by me stands: bootloader allowed, YES !! But i keep my bootloader locked, maybe in future i unlock it.

If you want to unlock it give Jinx13 a pm he will do it over the web using setool 2, it's a paid for method, I used his service and it only took a couple of minutes

Yes mine was T-Mobile too, they have chosen to lock it down, if you buy outright it is able to be unlocked without spending.
What do you find so terrible about the stock rom?

I thought the bootloader would be unlockable when I bought it.
The ROM has all kinds of junk I don't want loaded into it, there is a lack of options (maybe I have been spoilt by CyanogenMod) and it does silly things like not playing alarms over speakers when earphones are plugged in and playing notifications over speakers when earphones are plugged in.
Thanks del1701 I will probably get in contact with him.

Nope, just use flashtool to downgrade

LOL! All factory sony NEO V phones bought from them are bootloader unlockable. The reason urs isnt is bcoz it came frm a network provider. They can unlock it for u PROVIDED u PAY for the cost of the phone. I guess u deserve it, thinkng that u can get urs cheap... Next time, try BUYING the phone and not stealing it.

Just for your information, only small number of countries have law that tele operaters NEED to sim-unlock your phone. I'm not going into discussion if that is good law or not.
Next time try thinking a bit before you start accusing someone(for stealing or something else)!

Most contracts add up to the cost of the phone anyway, so it's hardly stealing, like the firms would do it if it wasn't still profitable.

Im sorry but you lost me at "sim-unlocked".
If you read the first post, the OP intentionally wanted to buy an unlockable bootloader phone. Instead, he acquired it through network providers (i assume cheaper than stores). He then complains here that it can't be unlocked. If thats what he wanted in the first place, then why doesnt he purchase one straight from the store, which is bootloader unlockable???
The reason network providers offer those phones cheap is because the client and provider enter into an exclusivity contract, which in return the client uses their services for a certain time frame. If or UNTIL that timeframe has lapsed, then technically the phone is still owned by the network. The simlocking and bootloader locking is merely just an insurance on their part.
Its like "buying" a car but paying in installment... If you chopped it up for parts before settling the amount in FULL, it is in most countries, called STEALING...because its not yours YET to begin with.
Sent from my MT11i using Tapatalk

Can't see mention of using provider for price.
I think he meant he picked this phone knowing it was unlockable, didn't think/know about network subsidy locks.

Da Vinci Unlock?

Hi, anyone here used Da Vinci to unlock their phone?
I snooped around and the cheapest I found was Da Vinci and the one-day unlock says $15. I don't know what they'll charge in Euro; the Da Vinci site quotes Euro but the connected simlock.com quotes only Dollars as far as I could see.
I'm also confused about the method they'll use. (I'm waiting on my bank transfer to go into my Paypal account before I get to unlock). Some areas of the site mention connecting the test point on the phone to the battery connection with a wire/paper clip and other parts of the site say they'll just use a network unlock code.
Don't unlock with codes.. use testpoint instead.. it will unlock your bootloader too
Sent from my WT19i using xda premium
Is there anything wrong with using the network codes?
I'm happy to do the bootloader myself in time. I'm in no rush - I like the SE stock rom for now. If they are late with the 4.0 upgrade then I'll unlock the bootloader...

Hi,
I just got the one day license and unlocked...
everything worked perfectly!
I don't recommend doing this if you don't know much about it. I've done some of this stuff before and was comfortable trying, but you still learn...and you can waste a lot of money if you mess up.
But all went perfectly and Da Vinci are legit guys... Best prices around...

Hey, noticed you also posted in this thread, so...
What did you unlock? "Xperia X10 Mini", or "Xperia Mini" ?
Also, the bootloader was unlocked automatically or you needed something else? Do you know if the bootloader unlock is available for the "X10 mini"
Could you post a link to the unlocking software? I know it needs credits but to check it out first.
http://simlock.com/
It says Dolllars but I put Euro into my Paypal account, 15 Dollars meant about 11.50 Euro, that's 30 Euro cheaper than anywhere else I've found.
I have the Xperia Mini 2011 but I'm sure they do the 2010 Xperia X10 Mini too.
I don't know what the procedure will be with the X10 Mini, I suspect it may be simpler than what I had to do. I had to take a sticker off the back of my phone, and connect a paperclip from the bottom of the battery connecter to something called a 'testpoint'. I think it's to blur the phone's lock status, then you connect the phone to the computer and the program re-writes your lock status. It completes in about 1 minute and it's done!

[Q] Currently unlockable bootloaders

For us with currently unlockable bootloaders (branded phones), will removing the sim-lock give us the option to unlock the bootloader?
No
That was a definitive answer. Strange, cause I know people with unlockable bootloaders in their Arcs and Rays have managed to unlock them.

Slightly worried about getting the phone from Rogers here. Hopefully the Sony store will have a working unit so I can enter the command into the dialer to see if I can easily unlock it or not.

Currently there is no way to root without unlocking the bootloader, it will probably come at some point, but not now .
There is no drawback to unlocking your bootloader though, as they will still probably accept your device for warranty, unless you fry your phone with overclocking and such.
But yea, branded phones cant be unlocked at this moment, or well, they haven't figured it out yet. So if you are branded you can't even unlock your bootloader...yet . Give it time, everything will be figured out in time .

I am under the impression that selling it in the Canadian Sony store means it will not be branded for any carrier, since they'll be offering the phone unlocked. Probably even if they offer it on contract with a carrier like Rogers, it would still be unlocked, but just subsidized with your contract plan.
edit: They did say that the phone is exclusively with the Sony Store in Canada, so you can't get it straight from Rogers anyways, so no worries!
If there is brand in rogers, I am pretty sure they will lock the bootloader just like they did in xperia arc

Bought mine from the sony store locked to rogers. I can confirm that the bootloader are in fact locked. Bought mine at launch early tuesday morning.(12th)
They currently only sell XpS's locked to rogers. They unfortunately don't sell the unbranded version(/unlocked). They were also surprised by this fact apparently.
BTW the rogers bloatware that came with the device is annoying as hell. If you're going to buy on frim the Sony store in canada. Debranding would be the first thing I would suggest to do. Seeing as rooting or custom roming is out of the question.

Have to admit that i'm a little disappointed i got my phone as soon as it was released on my neywork.
That was before the information came to light, that branded fw's have their bootloaders locked.
Had i known that BEFORE i took the plunge, i would have upgraded via a third party mobile phone shop.
I am even more disappointed to see custom roms and tweaks coming out, only to find myself unable to go anywhere near them. Grrrr!
I have de-branded my Xps but i still have the bloat-crap on it. Which is now filling the ten whole spaces in my main menu.
I have been checking on here everyday hoping for a root solution and also on the omnius and setool sites but still i am without a solution :-( and my biggest concern of all is...
As most the devs and rom chefs have unlocked bootloaders, that means hardly anyone (if anyone) will be working on a solution. Double :-(

I hear you bro
Don't worry, it will come
I have faith in this community that something will be figured out. A few weeks ago it wasn't even possible to flash custom kernels and such, and they managed to figure it out. Now that things are flowing nicely, the rom developers have started working on making things again, and maybe there's more things being looked into in terms of rooting.
I've been here since my X1 and the community hasn't let me down yet, I'm confident they will find a way to get a root, and probably (given the speed even a tester CM9 came out) before ICS.
I guess you might have wait for those paid software like setool .... It will be like the same case like xperia arc. Rogers or any branded phone do not allow bootloader unlock.

Got the code from Orange and phone unlocked to any network now.

Talk about double bonus
Too bad the phone is going to Sony on Monday for the yellow screen issue.

Interesting... I'm a bit skeptical though...

Yeah, I can't take the plunge and use this phone as my daily driver. Not with Timescape (or whatever you call the Sony UI). I want to be able to use AOSP apps. What I hate is when the UI elements creep over when you're using an app (stuff like checkboxes) and it just makes the overall experience feel inconsistant.
I have since buying the phone debranded it and flashed the singpore rom, and it does a good job at eliminating bloatware, but I want to go in deeper and install CM9 whenever that's ready.
The phone does have what looks like the test point connections, I wanted to mess around with them but I didn't have the proper screws to remove the battery cover. Anyone know what the size of the screws are so I can get a screwdriver that fits?

If you could have done the test point process, I'm sure it would already be posted here. It's quite possible there will be some type of testpoint exploit in the future.. But as of now not the case. I wouldnt suggest messing around inside your phone unless your ready to void your warrenty and at least somewhat know what your doing.
Who knows you could be some secret dev-ninja-genius. ...but then again your asking about screwdriver sizes instead of just eyeballing it like most people would do, so I very much doubt that bro.
Just my 2 cents.

I know you were just trying to be mindfull of what happens to my phone and stuff, but if I "eyeballed" the size what good would it do if I don't have a small enough bit to fit the screw? I was able to remove the frearson screws but am missing the torx.
A test point method is still possible (maybe) but the reason that there are no posts about it is that the software used (Omnius, SEtools, etc) is not yet compatible with the XS.
Im toooo interested too, my phone has bootloader blocked for my phone company, so I cant get root or do anything
Im waiting, I hope too much they find a solution soon !

no I didn't try any other, sent several mails and made some registrations but didn't buy from them (some replied simply that they couldn't do it), I searched and even posted a thread to ask if people found a sure site, but without any luck. Then I found this thread and in it there are several sites/ebay sellers that were reported working for the ION with SEcodes the latest, so I wrote them an email because I wanted other codes as well (got response in less than 5 min) they told me to wait about a week and I got them six days later. Was worried because I read the whole site and their return policy wasn't clear. It turned out that my order was number 30 something so i hoped it wasn't a scam and my hopes came through
I read that the method with the sever even unlocked some bootloaders, which is a big plus and was cheaper but no luck with that.
as advice if you worry to much and have a camera or a phone that could make a good video, you could record the first time you enter the code (IMEI and service menu visible) so if it doesn't work you shouldn't need to do it again for proof if they want video and decrease the number of the counter

Bootloader unlock

I see from reading the XDA news articles that Verizon is now allowing the Sony Xperia Play to be unlocked now that is is a discontinued phone. I wonder if there's a chance that Big Red MIGHT allow our phones (and other disco'd phones) to be unlocked.
I don't know if they will go for this but it's worth a shot.
I doubt it. I dont even thing the phone is discontinued yet. I believe I still saw it in the Verizon store last weekend.
EDIT: Although, I dont see it on their website anymore.

severely doubt it they have no reason to when they can make so much money off of new phones. why bother doing anything for old and discontinued phones the only reason that verizon would allow a phone to have an unlockable boot loader is that they cant make money off it and the device manufacturer has bugged the hell out of them to let it happen.
So, there's ANYTHING you can do with the phone once the bootloader is on?
I'm from Venezuela (sorry for the crappy english, trying my best here) and I buy a Unlock Droid x2, and trying up upgrading the Android to something more newer than 2.3.4 the bootloader lock. I was using it for a few days in WIFI with Whatsapp, Skype and Line. Now I can't find ANYTHING on how to bypass that lock.
I just lost my money? In a country with a monetary barricade like this, it's kinda a downer know I just waste 180 bucks just because I try (and fail) upgrade my phone.
I was reading around and find sites that will give you and "unlock" number based on you MEID, is that even work? I'll pay to have my phone unlock, if come to that, but I want to know I can at least do something!
I must add; I just want to be able to enter to the google play, install whatsapp, etc. I DONT WANT ANOTHER CDMA NETWORK ON THE PHONE.
I buy the phone with those opcions; I don't care if I cant send normal txt msjs, if I can at least use the phone!
all you can do in bootloader is flash .sbf recovery files
which model do you have, label under battery says MB870?

[Q]Selling or Unlocking bootloader

Hey guys, so I'm a bit disappointed with my Xperia U's speed and small screen and the enormous RAM eating (friends Galaxy Y has more free than mine).
I have few questions I want an answer.
1. Is there any phone with big screen (4 inch +), dual-core processor with pretty good development here in XDA which I can afford for ~250$ (max 300$)
2. Is selling Xperia U for 180$ a reasonable price? I used it for 3 months, not a single scratch, looks perfectly new + some random stuff added that I don't need, like original Sony headphones (not the ones that come with phone).
3. Does unlocking bootloader and having a custom kernel have big impact on performance? Like could I play games like Real Racing 3 without any lagging on custom kernel? Because on locked bootloader stock kernel and custom ROM I'm lagging a lot.
4. Will we have jelly bean ports? I've been said multiple times that we're getting a port after releasing to P or Go? So it will be most likely only Unlocked Bootloader right?
5. What would you do if I were me? Sell and buy something else or unlock the bootloader?
~Thanks
I would wait definitely as jb for p is out today

So give this a try first
It's about when selling I can sell with warranty from the internet shop I bought. If I unlock I have hardware, but not software warranty.

Meh, I'm going to stick with Xperia U, actually, I don't need top of the line with big screen as I checked myself, I use my phone A LOT with one hand, and with 4 incher it's pretty hard. I'm going to unlock the bootloader on holidays.
