External Battery Pack options - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Just saw this on HTCpedia:
http://shop.htcpedia.com/htc-3000-mah-external-battery-bank-charger.html
Seems like HTC is trying to make more money off of making the battery non-removable.

I meant non-removable.

So, lets share what we are/have/will use to keep our phones charged up while on the go!
When I found out that officially, we were getting the non-removable battery, I started hanging out with the One X folks and seeing what they are using and have used. I decided that I didn't need a HUGE battery pack because I do have access to charge at home, in the car, at the office. What I did need was something to fill the gap if I happen to really need power and are not in one of those 3 places.
I decided to get the Anker 5600mAh charger and see how it would work out, supporting my daily use of my Evo 3D. I can say, this thing is AWESOME! Something that was important was charging rate and this charges at 1000mAh output just like the wall charger (*Input is 1.2. A LOT of the chargers on the market are only rated at 800mAh and I didn't want that. There are also a lot that are HUGE but when thinking about how it will be used, I wanted it to be highly portable and reliable.
**Battery pack capacity DOES NOT equal output due to charging loss due to heat and other factors. So the 5600mA pack gives me just about 3 full charges of my 1730mA Evo 3D battery.
I highly, highly recommend this for the value, portability and reliability.
What are you all using??

^^^I like that a lot!!
I've been using Anker batteries in my 3D for a long time now and they work great!! All of their products seem very well made

I'm hoping for a battery glove like the Iphone has.

Think I'm going to buy the same thing. They also make bigger ones, so my only debate is what size to pick. The 5600 seems good because it's small enough and 2 full charges is plenty for an emergency I would think... Either that or the 8400mAh one.

5600 is perfect because it is small and has plenty of juice to save you wherever you are. 2 full charges easy and I'm telling you, it charges as fast (seems like faster) than the wall chargers.

The 5600 pack will only have 3920 usable mah. I'm still thinking which only to get. I seen other brands with excellent reviews as well. They don't have the 5.3v output so you wouldn't loose as much power while charging your phone

Not sure how you came up with that number but I am sure I can charge my 3D nearly 3 full times. I love the speed at which this bad boy charges too. Takes about 2hr and all set. You'll be very happy with this unit.

Double check the review on amazon where the guy reposts what the seller stated. 30% is wasted using the charger leaving 70% usable
Took this from the review
""Sorry to hear that this external battery does not satisfy you. The input from AC or laptop to external batteries is 5v, while the output from external batteries to phones is 5.3v. Boosting from 5v to 5.3v and the external battery itself consumes power (about 30%). Therefore, the actual power that can be used to charge other devices is 70% (5600x70%=3920mah). So, this external battery is supposed to be able to charge a 1700mah battery for two times and a little more."
So after reading that I thought about a bigger one just incase.

Anyone have a battery from "new Trent"

I went ahead and bought this one:
http://www.amazon.com/New-Trent-IMP60D-Thunderbolt-Blackberry/dp/B003690Q42/ref=pd_sim_e_7
Very compact, and the best thing about it is you're able to charge it via USB and not have a bulky wall charger..

I can't say 150% because I didn't ask Trent about "THIS" model but I asked them (I called Trent before committing to a purchase) if they had ANY that did 1A output and they apologized and told me no. I was going to buy the Trent that has been on sale lately but when I saw this vs the Anker, I went with the Anker.

Ill upload pics of the device attached to my g1 shortly, but on to the review.
First off
Its on sale at amazon right now, and its worth every penny.
Price: $12.99
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JLL14E/ref=cm_cr_thx_view
Here is a youtube review by someone else:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WBAFsfy_HU
If i remember correctly, its 1700mah, larger than the stock g1 battery so its plenty juice to fully charge your g1 atleast once. As you can see in the video, its not very big, and its suprisingly lightweight, the g1 weighs significantly more than the charger. Hell, the box it came in weighed as much as the charger.
It takes longer to charge the charger than it does my g1, for obvious reasons, but it charges my g1 as fast as when my g1 is plugged into a wall.
Im definately picking up a 2nd one of these, for the price you just cant go wrong.
Does it really hold a full charge for the G1?
I've seen a bunch of these (I think this is the only portable charger Motorola has) here in Spain for 8$ on sale in a bargains bin at the local market, but I always thought it was intended for a much smaller battery, something like 850mah or 900...

i havnt gone a complete charge on it, but earlier today i went from 17% to 85% and it was still blinking green (the charger) showing that it had above 20% battery life left, so i think it might, ill fully drain my g1 saturday morning and see if it really does give it a "full" charge and let you know.
on a side note, the charger, while being cheap in price, does NOT feel cheap in quality
if you look at the picture, the slide in the center has a bar in the center of it going left to right, its a button, you must be slightly pressing on it in order to slide the slider up, and same to retract it, so it wont accidently slide out and damage the usb tip, it actually locks into place forward and back, and the greatest thing, if you watch the video youll see, the g1 seems to have its mini usb port flipped upside down IMO, so does this charger, so it charges facing the front, the odd thing is the bottom of the charger where you plug in a mini usb to charge the charger, is right side up (opposite of top) lol
the texture of the charger feels like a OEM battery cover for a g1, smooth but without the gloss like the front of a g1

no my mustang broke down and i ended up relying on my g1 for most of the day, but i have to say, it was a life savor having it around, ill attempt to do it tonight, i have to go pretty far so ill use the gps and play music to kill the battery and when i get there ill attempt to charge it via the external charger
on stock battery got a full charge with power to spare, im not rocking a 2200mah, its not fully charging it, but its getting about 60% of the way there

1700mah is the one i got for 13 bucks on amazon, i believe its the only one motorola makes, but it defiantely gave me a full charge in about a hour or so (lost track of time)
definately worth the buy, even more worth it for $8 usd
Ok,
I've looked on the net for reviews and photos and nobody seems to answer my question. Is there two ports one for charging the device and one for charging say your G1?
I'm guessing it uses a special AC adapter and does it use the flip out port or is there another?

as seen in the picture, when you slide the center up, the mini usb comes out of the top, its viewable from the top if you look straight down at it, so it just simply slides out to be able to plug into the phone
on the bottom of the charger, is a mini usb port, just like on the g1, it doesnt have a cover, nor does it flip out, its simply there
basically:
use your g1's charger and plug it into bottom of motorola charger, and plug motorola charger into g1 and youll have both charging at the same time in a straight line, watch the video posted in my first post after reading this and it should all make sence
and no, there is no special adapter, nor a special charger, it comes with a charger, but its no different than the charger that came with your g1, and it works when being charged off of a usb 2.0 port on your computer/laptop
@wootroot
Thanks for the clarification. I wanted to watch the YouTube video, but the tech guys at my work do not allow us to view YouTube videos. I planned on watching it when I got home, but figured after a bit of looking around on the net asking a question couldn't hurt and it worked great.
Thanks
yeah no problem, the only reason i suggested to watch the video is incase my description was unclear, i couldnt think of any other way to describe the charger
I did figure out way around the YouTube block. Put
PWN in front of the YouTube domain in the address and you can download the video opposed to stream.
My reasoning for purchasing this is simple. I 4wheel a lot and I no longer have a cigerette lighter in my Jeep because I turned my Cigerette lighter power lead into a feed to power my in cab winch controller.
Now with this I have a power source for my phone beyond the normal battery when I use the GPS.
However I did some looking around beause I'd personally need a longer cord because I couldn't do the device to device thing because I know it would get broke. Found some mini usb to mini usb extensions on the net. Ebay wanted $25 a cable, but you can find them cheaper. I'm guessing shorter the wire less line loss, but we are not talking 10+ feet here. Just 1 to 3 feet.

Anyways I just wanted to share.
yeah and you can get a splitter cable to charge more than one device, ie bluetooth
I bought one of these the day I bought my G1 at a T-Mobile store no less. They were getting rid of them and had them on sale for 15 dollars each. Sadly after 9 months I broke it. I had it plugged in and oops I knocked it off the G1 and the adapter piece bent. It still holds a charge and charges my phone but I want one with a cord so it doesn't happen again. Anyone seen the HTC portable batteries?

Samsung Galaxy Note OEM spare battery charger

No matter how much you try to conserve/sip precious battery power, 1 battery wont be enough for most of us power users. Might i suggest you folks invest in something like Samsung's spare battery charger. I scored one on the bay for $30 bones. Amazon stocks them as well. Now i laugh at trying to be a battery miser all day. With this handy accessory, when i leave for work every day i have 2 batteries charged to 100%.
Being able to charge a spare battery, without it being in the phone is much more efficient. Its very compact when folded down and fits in your pocket with ease. Plus the charger doubles as a stand in portrait or landscape mode and is battery case to boot!
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ETC-CPK1E1GSTA
Here are some quick pics. If i use the charger that came with the note, i can charge both batteries simultaneously, when the charger is holding the phone in landscape mode. Pretty good deal for less than $30

Yes. If you use your existing note's charger, while the note is being held in landscape by the charger, you can charge both batteries simultaneously. As I stated in my first post, buy from Ebay or Amazon for the best price of $30 or less.

I eventually gave in and got this as well with the spare 2500mah battery and I must say I am now completely happy since I'm able to carry two batteries when I need to. I leave one in my car while I'm going around and just switch the batteries off when the other dies and I'm nowhere near a charger.

i have the New Trent iCruiser IMP1000 11000mAh which is an external battery charger AND the extra samsung battery charger plus 3 extra 2500mah batters. the thing with an external battery charger is you will be having that thing plugged into your phone for almost 5-6 hours if you are using the phone while charging. as opposed to about 3 hours if its charged from the charger pack. what ill do is swap out dead battery into the samsung charger, plug that charger into my New Trent via USB cable and leave it charging in my backpack. while that ones charging I put my fresh battery into my note. much more efficient. kinda costly but i prefer to have my phone without a leash all day...
so just to make sure...the actual "dock" does not have a charger connector, but you can put it in landscape mode and plug in a charger into the phone, into the wall, while the spare battery sits in its tray being charged by another separate wall charger?
No, yes and yes. You comprehend correctly.
Ok so I think I am gonna get this since an extended battery just seems way too thick for me to be carrying around. My question is, would it be bad to keep the spare battery in the charger all the time when it is not in use? More than likely I am planning to keep it in there and only take it out when traveling or whenever I need the extra juice. I am planning to just leave it plugged and sitting on my computer desk. Would this hurt the battery in anyway?
Leaving the battery in the charger, while plugged into the wall socket will not hurt the battery. Most lithium ion batteries have built in circuitry that stops the battery from charging, after it has reached a full charge.

Battery Pack Compatibility with Tab 2 7.0?

I currently have an older 1800mA Kensington battery pack which drains the power on my Tab like nobodies business. I've been looking at a replacement, and have read conflicting reports of these working/not working. Anybody have one that can confirm works with the Tab 2 7.0?
And if it does work, are you using the stock cable?

Ouch, that is quite expensive (or least the one I've found on Amazon is)!
But thanks for confirming there is an alternative, and maybe hope for one of the 2 devices I'm looking at.
Trent iCruiser IMP1000 11000mAh specifications page reveals only 1A output at 5V, meaning it may or may not work depends on the room temperature.
As written on the Tab's original charger, the power controller on the tablet can pull out as much as 2A power from a charger. This means that on a charger (either portable or wallmount) that's only rated at 1A, the charger will work at its maximum capacity. It will all comes down to the build quality of the charger, and mostly its heat dissipation capability. If the charger gets too hot, it will cut of its power.
With that being said, you may wan't to stay away from Incredicharge. There's no written spesification nor contact number on the official page. Getting this is gambling based on customer reviews only.
You might wan't to scout some more alternatives, preferably one with a minimum of 2A output. But if it comes down to those two, Trent iCruiser IMP1000 11000mAh is the better bet.
NB : Original cable works fine.
NB : Just reread my reply, i sound like an old man talking to his grandchild Really sorry about that.
Both of these provide 2A output.

As written on the Tab's original charger, the power controller on the tablet can pull out as much as 2A power from a charger. This means that on a charger (either portable or wallmount) that's only rated at 1A, the charger will work at its maximum capacity. Ha! No problem on the "advice", and I can probably guarantee I'm older than you, so I'm the one that feels like the grandfather!
I don't think voltage is a major concern, its more the fact that I've read that some Samsung devices simply won't charge because of the data/info being sent from the battery via the cable. Amazon is full of "This doesn't work", which I take with a grain of salt most of the time, but there are enough references to the Galaxy Tab to make me think there might be something in it here.
Either way, I've left it too late to make a decision this time, so I'll revisit when I get back from my travels. Thanks!
I have an isound 8000 mAh external battery. the owners manual says 2.1A output. I have charged my gTAB 2 7.0 (p3110) and my galaxy s (gt-i9000) both from around 15% battery life to full with one light left on the external battery.

WoW! I did not know it went up to 16000mAh. That thing must be twice the size of the 8000mAh. I paid $49 for mine.

Rechargeable AA batteries used as cellphone battery?

I have some Sanyo Eneloop AA rechargeable batteries here.
1900mAh @ 1.2v.
If I use 3 of these batteries in a series that should equal 5700mAh @ 3.6v, correct?
So I'm thinking that 3 of these batteries should not only make the most powerful battery for the Galaxy Note, but it should also be one of the most reliable and high quality batteries as well (Sanyo Eneloops are VERY nice rechargeable batteries).
I have the extended battery cover from the Tmart 5200mAh battery (cheap battery with incorrect/misleading ratings).
Is there anyway to technically do this?
Thanks! :good:
If you have an extended knowledge of voltage, voltage regulators, circuits and currents, go for it!

I have zero knowledge on this LOL!
I mean I can solder and all...just no electrical knowledge of actually building it.
I was thinking that it would be possible to just run the batteries in series as in:
Phone (+)~~~(+)=Battery A=(-)~~~(+)=Battery B=(-)~~~(+)=Battery C=(-)~~~Phone (-)
Positive from phone to battery A positive...battery A negative to battery B positive...battery B negative to battery C positive...battery C negative to phone negative.

The (+) and (-) of course corrisponding to the batteries and phone plus and negative points.
Just run straight wire's from point A to point B in series...right?
Also how would the 3rd phone lead work? I'm guessing that's the meter or sensor for the battery correct?
I don't know...just a thought...but imagine! It would lead to a class A 5700mAh battery with TRUE ratings and reliable stable batteries that DON'T blow up!
I was totally behind you 100% and was digging this thread .........
....Until you said the batteries WOULDN'T blow up....
/sarcasm
Something someone on another forum:
If you have 3 of those batteries in parallel you are looking at 3x1900mAh @ 1.2v.
If you have 3 of those batteries in series you are looking at 1900mAh @ 3.6v.
You would need 9 batteries (3 in parallel, in series with 2 other identical sets) to get what you wanted originally.
Normally the cellphone batteries have a + - and a T contact. I believe the T contact sends data on charge rate, temperature etc to the phone, and then of course helps with charging also, quite how you would avoid the use of this pin I don't know.
Probably much easier to buy a 3rd party battery that fits the device you want... or one of those USB backup batteries (assuming the device charges from USB)

Well, it was a good idea, but ultimately just not possible...oh well!
how about using a battery that is already at 3.7v? I.e. trustfire etc. etc.
i wouldnt want to carry around that extra bulk tho. they already have external charging packs that you could use and not run the risk or messing up your precious. and not to mention your face and or hands
Why not use 4 battery's at 4.8v connected through USB as a rechargeable booster pack.
External Power Backup For Smart Phones & more
There are a gazillion external battery backups for smart phones so that you do not have to mess around with wiring batteries together.
If you want a USB/AC powered electronic charger and external battery backup (power bank) offering up to 11.200 mah then see this one I found on eBay - the Fujicell 500F. You can charge and power any I-Phone4, I-POD, Android (SAMSUNG, MOTOROLA, NOKIA, BLACKBERRY) Tablet and it can quadruple your talk time. All for $14.97 and free shipping on eBay and I think also on Amazon
I am sold, but you decide for yourself.

Now THERES an idea! Thanks! Will definitely have to look further into this one but what about batteries like these:
http://www.amazon.com/Ultrafire-18650-3000mah-Rechargeable-Battery/dp/B006QQ27BW
3.7v 3000mAh batteries...total of 6000mAh (2 pack)...something that is not only larger than anything for the Note, but also incredibly cheap.
Also if they are a standard size (i.e. AA) then it would be possible to fit at least 3 of this in the Note...so a 9000mAh battery? ****ing awesome.
Anyone know how the size of these compare to a AA battery? Here is a picture of some AA's in the Note (yes I know I would have to create stuff to hold battery in it and what not, its just comparison!).

Plenty of room on the top...probably need to leave some on the side for the (possible) electronics needed for the "T contact" Liggywuh talks about above.
Thoughts??? Could it be possible to maybe build a 9000mAh phone battery???
That would be awesome.

No externals. The point of this was to find a better, more reliable, TRUE high mAh battery.
External power packs are cumbersome and bulk and just more stuff to carry around. I just wanted a better INTERNAL battery.
Love the idea .....
I'll be watching this thread with great interest ..g

The "T" contact is for a temperature sensor.
Just in case you're under the impression that this is going to be an "it just works" solution, you will never be able to charge this in the phone. If you try, the cell charge levels will unbalance, and in short order, you will be overcharging one cell and overdepleting another. This is what makes lithium batteries violently catch fire. The cellphone's charge circuitry is designed to charge a single cell of a very specific chemistry.
Long story short, this is a bad idea. Just get one of those micro-USB battery extenders.

My response:
Possibly make a separate charger in the battery cover? There's plenty of room in the battery cover. See here for some pictures.
Are you 100% sure in your response? There are many extended battery options for the Note including some like the cheap 5000mAh batteries that are a couple of separate batteries in series, so I'm not entirely convinced of your statement.
How are other batteries technically doing the same thing and yet have no issues with charging and what not?

Like I said, not an entirely convincing argument.
AND TO MAKE A CLEAR POINT! I DO NOT WANT EXTERNAL CHARGERS...I KNOW THEY EXIST AND IF THAT IS WHAT I WAS TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH I'D SIMPLY BUY ONE!
I WANT A LARGER CAPACITY INTERNAL BATTERY!
if you want to stick with an internal and dont want cumbersome then why not use 6 1200 mah aaa batterys for 7200 mah. 1.2v each. 3 wired in seires then parrallel to other 3 will give you same 3.6v as your 3 aa. and they fit better slightly thinner.
build a car batery for the Note that would be awsome with a back pack to carry on the back

Just saying.
Besides, what's wrong with some of the large capacity replacement batteries? I've seen up to 5000mAh (realistically less, but yeah, it fits without kludgery).
that bag phone is "SEXY".....LOL......sorry

I'm torn on this thread. There's a part of me that thinks your crazy for trying this, but the other part of me, the part that's been begging me to tear open my note and mod it, wants you to succeed. Have you ran any tests to see if the 3 AA batteries actually power your note? Also instead of soldering the batteries together, why not go to your local radio shack and pick up a battery holder? Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Cells-Battery...354724900&sr=8-3&keywords=battery+holder+aa+3
Should only be like $5 at radio shack.

Transformer Prime AC charger safe? My stock one is not good...

Hi!
I noticed my phone takes a long time to charge and some times when using it while charging I will get a message about the phone being discharging as the power supplied was not enough or something along those lines.
I downloaded the battery status widget and noticed that at best, the charger goes to about 850 but for that I have to keep moving it as it seems some where inside the ac adapter and the USA adapter plug connected to it, something is going wrong.
I tried the original Sony usb cable and a different one as well.
Either way, when I move the AC Adapter parts connected to the wall, the charge changes and go crazy on the Batter Status widget , sometimes even shows like not even plugged any more :/
So I thought about trying my Transformer prime charger or I can try ordering another one that you guys may recommend.
Thanks!
Here is a pic of the specs on that adapter.
Or maybe I can use a Samsung one like this?
Samsung Charger 2A
Although the above seems to be a fake...so maybe just go with a sony one?
Sony

Looks like your Asus charger is 1.2A (1200mAh), so it's not the beefiest one out there. I'm not sure what the Sony one is, but i think it's 1.5A. Mine outputs around 800 - 1300mAh on the magnetic charger, and it uses around 2 hours to charge it from 0-100%. I usually charge it when i go to bed, but i'm always using it when it's charging in the dock, like wathcing YouTube videos and TV shows. I have never gotten a notification that says it's being discharged while i charge.
Does it get hot when it charges? (spoiler: it shouldn't do that)
I would buy a new - genuine, Sony charger. The thing is, if you buy or use a different charger and your battery goes to ****s, you can wave goodbye to your warranty. Also, since the battery isn't replacable you should treat it like your own son.
But let me summon @hamdogg for you. He knows a lot more about batteries than i do. I guess he'll show up in a minute or 12 hours. Hard to tell But he's on his way.

hahahahah, you see that Asus charger confuses me because it says but then below it also says Output 5V=2A or 15V=1.2 I dont want to fry my phone!
So you get from 800 to 1300 using the Dk30?
Also, what is the model of your Sony charger. I want to try finding one with USA plug already so maybe that Sony one is the best option for me even though I would like to start going with Magnetic charger myself OR charging an external battery (if I get one) to avoid using the USB port too much.
I got the DK30 bundled with the phone. The charger model is EP880 and it outputs 1500mAh. It only says Sony on the dock itself.

Got ya. Well I decided to get the DK30 even though now I am having second thoughts since some user seems to be having luck just using the magnetic adapters and connecting any usb cable to that adapter instead..but oh well, I guess I will get the DK30 and see how it works out for me.
Still trying to decide on that 4500mAh case/battery too!

amps are fine no matter what the range. So 1.5 right up to 4.0 amps will not damage your device.
Volts on the other hand can damage your device. Don't go above 6v.
You should be able to get 5.v and 2.0 amps out of a wall charger, if not then its not been made properly, or not efficiently
[I have a 2.1amp unit and it suits me fine]
The difference is that your device will pull what ever I can up to a maximum, It look like the ultra can only pull 2200 (give or take) out of a charging unit, so any wall charger that states its over 2.5 amps will be a waste.
-So don't pay extra for anything above 2.2amps thinking you'll get faster charging. You wont.

I got a free 5000mhz solar charger unit sent to me to review. I'll make a video for my channel shortly about this unit. Think it retails for $15 USD. Look pretty good, just need to test it on my ultra in a few days.
The thing with battery packs, is that it needs to be 200% larger than the internal battery. So if your Ultra battery is flat, then it charges off the 5000mhz battery pack, that would mean to it wont fully charge the ultra. It will get to 2500mha, and the battery pack will get down to 2500mhz, and then it wont be able to transfer charge. (Unless you can give charge to pack)
So my solar pack can charge my device to 75%, and then continue to charge it while the solar panel charges the pack..
Does that make sense??
There we go
