8GB NT users DO NOT flash anything unless you're sure it works for that model - READ! - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Hello, due to many bricked devices, specially 8GB Nook tablets i have requested a moderator to sticky this thread as a WARNING.
This way we expect to have less or no bricked devices anymore.

[B]CASE#1:[/B] i like and use B&N apps i was to stick with stock but i wan't be able to use the most features as possible and not figure it out and troubleshoot so many things in the way then for those people i recommend stock 1.4.0 simple than that.
Albert and I have posted modified, rooted stock 1.4.0 ROM's so you simply get into CWM and flash them, period.
But If you are the kind of person and also want to learn how to do it from scratch and modify to your taste then use one of the so many methods posted in development section to root: there are 2 options root by [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354487"]using adb[/URL] and root by using a [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439630&highlight=root"]bootable sdcard[/URL] - PLEASE check [URL="http://www.youtube.com/user/albertcwertz"][B]@albertwertz[/B] video-tutorials[/URL]
Brief history of the creation of the sdcard method: many users were having issues setting up adb and making drivers for nook tablet get recognized by windows so they were not able to root so it is why sdcard method was released. and as users were having issues setting up sdcard aswell was created the "burn this image to your sdcard with [B]win32diskimager[/B], method which still some users have issues and i remember have read of one user that after user that bricked his device using the last method mentioned... Oh well there is always risk!!!

[B]CONs OF SDcard METHOD:[/B] you still have to setup your sdcard, format it with fat32 file system and set first partition to Active or LBA: boot (linux) and if that does work then burn the root image to your sdcard using win32diskimager.
[B]CASE#2:[/B] By the other hand if you are the kind of user that don't use (maybe hate) B&N service/apps then good news [B]ALL THE ROMS[/B]
in development section will work for you
Now if you want to go straight to one of the ROMs in development section
then you simply can [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25786947&postcount=1"]prepare a sdcard to boot into ClockworkMod (CWM)[/URL].
Once you re able to boot into CWM from sdcard you can now go ahead and download
the ROM of your preference, copy it to your internal sdcard (MyNOOK) and flash it in:
CWM >> Install .zip from sdcard >> choose .zip from internal sdcard >>
pick the .zip package of the ROM and flash it, reboot device and VOILA!

There is not much support for 8GB model, infact you are limited to stock 1.4.2+,
CM7 and some CM9 internal for now.
Only those you can intall/flash so far, it is possible that some CM10 work for you too but always
make sure by reading the OP of the ROM or asking in the respective thread if it works for the 8GB model.
If you attempt to flash the following ROMS:
Stock 1.4.0/1.4.1, MIUI, acclaim-update.zip
[CENTER][B][COLOR="Red"]¡¡¡YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE!!![/COLOR][/B][/CENTER]

AND FOR THE LIFE OF YOU...
DO NOT format: rom, boot, bootdata, factory, emmc.
Otherwise you be in troubles with a soft/hard bricked, most likely non bootable device. You might be able to boot from sdcard ONLY.

Can you post another screenshot of the first menu in CWM? And maybe indicate the wipe data/cache is what we mean when we say "wipe" and "install from zip" is where you flash and "backup/restore" is where you...make a backup.

It is the ONLY thing that would clear my NT8 after I bricked it (trying to flash CM7a to internal EMMC). I spent a couple months only being able to boot from SDCard. Now, I am back to stock.
BTW, I can still use my bootable SDCard with CM7a. It works just the same as it did but now, my INTERNAL is also booting to stock.
Unfortunately, his dropbox account is temporarily disabled due to heavy use. But, I am sure it will be re-enabled soon. Perhaps, someone has some storage space to host it?

I'm sorry but that thread is already in development section my OP is not a directory, if I keep adding things it will lose its main meaning. I created this thread mainly as a warning to 8gb NT users and only placed links to couple of must read threads that a noob should read, my FAQ already contain links to all the unbrick threads, I have to update it though I know and I will in these days

Not at present. The only ROM for nt8 that can run on internal memory are veronica ribbon root and cm9a.04.. Check http://raywaldo.com for more.

And the CM7 rom I'm about to post the link to in about 20 minutes
I've made a special effort this time to endure it works on an 8gb, I've been running it on one for a week or two now just to make double sure it worked this time around

OH and I've had MIUI running on it too so it is possible, just not with the standard release that is on there. If I get time maybe I'll release and update for those that want to install miui on an 8gb too

OP still states that CM7 internal will brick a NT8. If you test it you will find this information is incorrect. I bought an NT8 to fix the issue and the beta version installs on an NT8 just fine.

This post is to confirm the following two work booting off a microsd card on the NT 8GB model, and do not require flashing and replacing the stock internal rom.

Both methods are simple. Download rom and Winimager, write rom to a Sandisk class 4 card (as often recommended in the related thread ), insert and boot.
On mine, I must plug in the usb cable to the power adapter or pc powered usb port, then into the nook to initiate boot. Without, it boots to stock internal os.
Both generally work well enough that it's a matter of taste. Just tried out cm10, saw nothing worth migrating to, so still running Team B's older os for web, video, tube and torrents, and ebook and comic reading. Snappy on a 16gb class 4, so no qualms sticking with it.
These two are the easiest for newbs to figure out, so recommended if you're not to sure. You can still store files on the internal storage, too, for more space.

8gb nt question
got tired of the slow mo nook color even though i appreciate all the advances made towards its custom roms and such. But due to this i went ahead and bought a nt8. my dad has one that im not sure if it was 8 or 16 but i installed on emmc cm 10.1.3 and 10.2m1 no problem. even was able to upgrade to the new kernel that ops for 1350 ghz. still works perfect. but when mine arrives am i gonna have this brick problem or has development advances past this issue? like when i get it and do the same thing i did for my dads which worked flawlessly, am i gonna brick it? plz tell me no otherwise i jus bought a brand new nt8 for no apparent reason other than to completely waste a wod of cash.

just checked my dads nt and its an 8g due to its 500mb ram and not 1gb. so from reading this thread its suggested that its a model version problem maybe?
