EVO 4G LTE expandable to 64 GB and more - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I know there are probably threads about this already BUT most people don't know but micro sdhc devices like the EVO 3d and View and EVO 4g LTE are actually fully compatible with Micro sdxc its Microsoft has a patent on the exFAT format used but all Micro sdxc card but all Mico sdxc can be formated to fat32.
Now in real world terms as shown here http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-3d-accessories/162673-picked-up-64gb-micro-sd-card.html

all you have to do is insert a 64 gig Micro sdxc card which is selling right now on newegg for 89.99 free shipping click format and now you have 64 gig of external storage on the EVO LTE... It should also be noted that the maximum storage allowed on FAT32 is 2 Terabytes yes TWO TBs how is that for future proof.
this means for 239.99 we could have 80 GB of storage on the device not mentioning the dropbox 25 GB and box 50 GB accounts either

It's cheaper on bestbuy.com. $80.

nice

nice find

Just placed my order via bestbuy. Its class 6 though. I heard class 6 to class 10 is about the same speed.

Good information.
I kind of feel left out. I don't use all of the 16GB one I currently have installed in my 3D. I guess I need to get around to installing that new bluetooth stereo I bought into my truck. I prefer streaming radio though as a general rule. I don't watch movies on my phone, so that is a wash. I still want one though.

Most of my storage is used by music, then video and images I take.
I have around 26gig of music (I think around 7,000 songs) and only about 2,000 pics.
I'm not a fan of online streaming radios, personally. I listen to a lot of soundtracks from video games and stuff. hehe I might download OCremix.org collections again when I get the 64gb sdcard.
I wish I did have more videos to watch on my devices. Other than streaming netflix, I don't see a point to actually save videos to watch onto your device.

I agree

I have substantially more music than my 16GB card will hold. In the terra-byte range. They are all albumed and cataloged though. I can stream them if I need more access. I really want one of these cards, but just can't justify the purchase.

The Sprint variant of the LTE One X does, the AT&T version does not.
Also a bigger battery, kickstand, and dedicated camera button.
Killing the market as far as One X variants are concerned.
The only question remains how aesthetic the design is relative to the white One X.

I'll wait until someone has done it with the LTEvo.

The only drawback is that it lowers your cards write speed. Right now I'm using a 64GB sandisk class 10 in my Evo 3D but it's only performing at the level of a low Class 4.
It's still +60GB though so I can't complain

xHausx i love your work and I'm glad you got in on this thread dude i am also glad to see you on the evo 4g lte project i feel much better you are on board
class 4 4MB write speeds isn't as high as class 10 but should be more enough for mp3 hd movies and camera picture and video recording the only thing i might be afraid of is partitioning the SD card but with 1 GB ram and 16 GB rom shouldn't be much of a problem right?

They say it's better to reformat it from the recovery, but the ROM itself actually fixed the card for me on mine. It kind of derped out on me for a minute or so but after a couple reboots the sd card came right up.

64 Gb micro SD
yeah, I looked at it, too. SanDisk class 6 micro SDXC. Let me know if you try it how it works for you. I'm using a 16Gb class 10, and it works great. I've seen sketchy things about 32 Gb micros having occasional failed reads, so I'm hesitant to go up, but I would like to be able to move all my music onto a single card, so let me know. Thanks.
Mine gets here tomorrow, I'll post back if its good or not
I've really considered upgrading if it does work well enough. I want to get my entire music collection on my phone without having to worry about storage. And this sounds perfect.

its great just format it in the phone, and you get about 61.2 GB after, and your good the write speed is around 9.5 mb/s and the read is 30-38 mb/s
Just formatted in the phone and came up as 59.46GB transferred all the stuff over now have 37GB available.

Personally 16GB is perfect for me. All my V0 MP3s can fit on that. I don't collect album and only my favorite songs.
personally I listen to flac files and they are frankly huge compared 10 mp3. I have 2 32 gig cards, maybe I should consider an upgrade.
CAUTION
While I do not really intend to go searching for the thread, an early adopter of the 64GB card initially thought it worked, and then it bottoms up pretty quick. Find the thread; but if he is correct DO NOT BUY THIS CARD FOR THE REZOUND.

Not exactly sure if this is the same one that Bestbuy has but I bought the SanDisk 64GB Mobile Ultra MicroSDXC Class 6 Memory Card for my Rezound and haven't had any issues (about a month old now). I formatted it on the computer then the phone. It is very expensive but definitely worth it in the end. Before the 64 I used my 32 GB microSD that came with the Thunderbolt without issue. Up to now I haven't had any adverse effects.

64GB Micro SD card do they work on photon ?

hi, I'm looking to buy a 64GB MicroSDXC card
do they compatible with photon ?
can anybody who have them give some inputs ?
thank you.
No, the Photon only supports microSDHC, and like you said, the 64gb (also, anything over 32gb) is classified as microSDXC.
32gb + 16gb internal should be more than enough anyways, provided you use it wisely.
If you absolutely NEED that amount of space, some users were able to use the Photon as a USB host and attach an external USB flash stick using a special USB-F-MicroUSB-M

I've seen a couple reports that they work fine on the Photon, but more that they don't. And the Droid4 and Bionic are reported to work.

The current 64GB cards are generally backwards compatible with SDHC in a lot of devices.
http://pocketnow.com/android/how-well-are-android-phones-handling-64gb-sdxc-memory-cards
I have a Sandisk 64 card - haven't tried it in my Photon, but it works fine in my Xoom and Cowon J3 MP3 player (linux).
So, I don't know for sure. (My Photon battery cover plastic clips won't take too many more removals or I'd try it)
I got my mom a 64gb sandisk mobile utra microsd card and its works perfectly. She uses the microsd for music and so far she hasnt had any problems.

the 64GB is the exact one I got her.
Cool - good to know, thanks for the post.
I figured it would work fine in the Photon since it seems to work in about everything else with a SDHC 3.0 compatible slot.
And I got my spare battery cover via eBay today, so may try it soon.

Let me better explain my "No big difference, so I went back" comment. I had a 16Gb SanDisk Class 4, I was happy. I got 32Gb SanDisk Class 6 for $100.00 and I was happy. I got Komputer 32Gb Class 10 for @ the same. When I compared them read/write, depending on what I was reading or writing, the SanDisk was either faster OR not that far behind, so I went back to SanDisk for the realiabilaty. I now have 64Gb SanDisk Class 6 and I'm happy (Kinda of, there is nothing on it? I either use Google or ZumoCast to acces my desktop at home?)
My suggestion, look for stability, look at the reviews where people smarter than I have done extensive testing. Not all chips are alike. Also, look at your needs. If you take a ton of pictures or video, I assume you would need high write speed. If your a gamer, I assume you would need high read speeds? Just me!
Thanks for the further explanation! I'll probably just pick up the class 6. It's getting rave reviews on Amazon.

Yes, this MicroSD Class 10 card actually lives up to it's speed. Look at the 50+ reviews it has. 4/5 star rating.

You know I would be mad at this G. Skill 32GB Micro SD but I got it on sale. Original price of $29.99 and had a promo code on May 13 to get an extra $8 off. Add free two day shipping to that and it's just a sweet deal.
I'm disappointed in speeds but for around $22 it was a steal.
P.S. I know more read/write with an SD card is good, but what for actually? I mean this in all honesty. I have no clue. I can access my songs and apps in less than a second upon touch. Boot time is maybe faster? Someone enlighten me.

It allows you to get stuff done quicker. Burst mode picture will probably be higher quality. The big one for me (and the main reason why I bought a class 10 for the first time) is that it will allow you write to the card faster and ultimately allow you to take a higher resolution video. Might help a little with pictures too in burst mode.
Sorry for going a bit off topic but this is a little of my recent background:
I am a firefighter and I just bought a helmet camera. Since it has 0 internal storage, I am forced to buy an sd card. I was talking to the technology committee (which I am a part of) and they agreed that I should get a class 10 card so I can take high resolution videos of us training and doing actual firefighting. Best part is, I got the station to pay for 2 . After training or whatever, I can take the card out and plug it into my Transformer Prime and I can stream it over the TV.
For the average Joe, a class 10 might not be all that exciting. I haven't gotten one before because I have never felt the need to get one.
I also just got the Gskill card, just no phone to stick it in (grrrrrrr)
Using h2testw on my computer, I got 9.5-10.6 MB/s sequential write speed, and 17ish MB/s read speeds.
Good enough for me.

i believe the card he is referring to is class 10 uhs-1. thats a pretty great deal seeing as i got the class 6 uhs-1 for 40.. i didn't look hard though..
wondering though, card states up to 30MB/s.. is that read time only? will this still well outperform a class 6 uhs-1 for capturing video or does anyone know if both cards are adequate/overkill?
My order is already in packaging. Oh well. I probably would have went with the ADATA anyways since the reviews are generally good.
I bought this card a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier! If you want a true test of the card speed you can not use the phone, use your pc. I recommend using ATTO disk benchmark. I consistently get 11.9 write and 20.1 read. class 10 and then some!

The best Sd card, under say £50 ? pleease. :)

hi guys, so far ive only done a quick e-bay search and came across the (San disk 64GB Mobile Ultra Class 10 UHS-I Micro SD SDXC Memory Card)
Its going for £45. i will go up to £50 if it can beat that. as in better for my HTC EVO 3D, it will be kept standard most likely and used for music, internet and movies. with camera used and camcorder often too.
i stupidly bought/bid/won a no brand 32 GB for £10. it worked fine till about 6 hours later and it doesn't recognise it at all, and its not been switched off or settings messed with. it works with no adaptors in the PC/laptops either.
so its not the phone, must be the card. any ideas ?
cheers
Please excuse the mistakes, i blame this cloudy cider i be drinkin' yarr.
The card your looking at seems nice. At least it's name brand this time.
The 3d officially supports up to 32GB, but people report running the 64GB ones with no issues. I'd get it.
Read, Search, Read again, ... Then Ask with Tapatalk 2
Not sure which SanDisk card you are looking at but this one on amazon.uk seems to be compatible with the Evo 3D based on the second review on the US Amazon site.
I don't know how that compares to your eBay option, but I've heard some horror stories about people getting fake high capacity cards from eBay sellers that actually have much lower capacity, and I generally get what I'm expecting from Amazon.
I've read other places that currently Android doesn't really take advantage of anything higher than a class 6 card, but even if that's true you will be prepared for the future.

Its going for £45. i will go up to £50 if it can beat that. as in better for my HTC EVO 3D, it will be kept standard most likely and used for music, internet and movies. with camera used and camcorder often too.
i stupidly bought/bid/won a no brand 32 gb for £10. it worked fine till about 6 hours later and it doesnt recognise it at all, and its not been sitched off o settings messed with. it works with no adaptors in the PC/laptops either.
so its not the phone, must be the card. any ideas ??
cheers

im sure the one you linked is the exact same as on e-bay.
cheers for the help.
using a class 2. 2GB sand disk in at the moment and its fine, not much storage space but it allows me to take 3d pics etc.. and have a few songs on while my 64GB arrives.

Hi yes sandisk or kingston make very good quality sd cards for an affordable price you should also go for class 6 for faster read and write speeds
They should most definitely under 50 euros if you buy online
Sent from me in my cardboard box
Well i made the plunge and got myself one.
yeah the 64GB does work, i just need to format it as it comes as factory formatted exFAT and i need to reform to NTFS.
sorted
Infact the one i have ordered is specific for android so i presume it has an app on the card which means i dont need to format it and change it.
here it is in its ;

I work in a retail store and one thing i noticed is that SD Card prices have gone down. You can Pick up a 32GB class 10 sandisk for £30. Its what i'm using and it's much faster compared to the class 4 8GB i originally got with the phone.

Lets Talk About SDCARDS

So what micro sdcards are people using as i need a new one want 32GB at least. Does it support 64? Preferably an amazon link!
link below, you can go 64gb or 128gb if you like. on 4.4.2 you might have to do the KK SDcard fix, which is simply editing a file in permissions and allowing RW access to the sd card. Might be the same for Lollipop, but I'm not there yet on my phone.
One thing I did find is that I get lag if I stick loads of music on there and use the stock app, so I use rocket player as it handles that better.

I haven't tested it, but I read that it worked fine. It's slightly outside my price point at the moment, once they drop a little buy one.

I think I read somewhere that the G3 actually supported up to 3TB SD cards ! (And yes, I know there's no card that big, but it just means it works ! )
Just get any class 10 sd card.
Just as a PSA, Best Buy is having a pretty good sale on Samsung micro sd cards. I got a 64gb "evo" for $25. Steady write rate, according to us file explorer, on 40mbps.
I can finally explore some 4k recording.
Sdcards for LG G3
In most regions the LG G3 comes with a hearty 32GB of internal storage, leaving nearly 25GB for you to use as you wish. As is often the case, one size never fits everyone — and if you need more than 32GB in your mobile device, you'll have to resort to using an external SD card to expand it. The LG G3's MicroSD card slot supports up to 128GB cards, giving you more room than you'd likely ever be able to fill.
Got my self a great deal on amazon for a 32GB card £13

I can recommend mymemory.co.uk. they aren't scroungers like Amazon and their prices are much better!
Since I'm newly out of iPhone world, and into LG G3, Android and sdcards ... and I already had a problem with bad 32gb (fake chinese) SunDisk sdcard, which could write to it , but every file wouldd in a day or two get corrupted .. When I inserted the old (and slow) 16gb card , it works as it should...
But, could You refer me or explain, what can / can't I put on the card in my LG D858hk, with 4.4.2. Android. What can I do on stock LG Android, and what with rooting ?
Also, recommend some good quality 32gb at least , preferably 64gb ... since I am a massive hoarder of music etc.

Jailbreaking :good:
Just bought a sandisk 32gb reads 48mb/s
Sent from my LG-D850 using XDA Free mobile app
128gb card
I've been using a Sandisk 128GB card for a couple of months now. Currently about half full with music. Reads / writes fine with no discernible real world difference compared to the 16GB card I had previously.
Can't say how it might work with stock, I am Rooted and booted using Cyanogenmod 12 by Manupse. No complaints.

From what I understand, the Samsung Pro cards are great. The one you posted is the last generation one. The current one is rated at up to 90MBps read and up to 50MBps write, and isn't that much more at $59.99.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Class-Adapter-MB-MG64DA-AM/dp/B00IVPU88U
This being said, people tend to prefer the Samsung EVO cards for phone use. They're substantially less expensive ($35.79 shipped):
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Class-Adapter-MB-MP64DA-AM/dp/B00IVPU7AO
The reason people tend to prefer the less expensive EVO cards is their faster 4k random read/write speeds, which is arguably the most important aspect for phone use.
Here's the 64GB Samsung EVO micro SD:
Here's the 64GB Samsung Pro micro SD:
If you're using it in a camera, 4k camcorder, or transferring big files, I can see preferring the Pro. Then again, you can get the very similar PNY Turbo 64GB card (up to 90MBps read) for $27.99 shipped right now, which is less than 1/2 the price.
