Credit where credit is due:
As with any open source stuff, some of this work is my own, most of it comes from other sources. So in addition to my own work (mostly in the "mean" category), here's a quick thanks to those of you who contributed knowingly (thank you) and not-so-knowingly via open source 5 finger discount (thank you just the same: your stuff is good and that's why I used it). Sometimes it's not entirely obvious where the source started so if I missed someone, please let me know and I'll add you. Also, I'm careful to only include other work where the author does not specify any usage restrictions or has given approval. If you believe, however, that I've included something that shouldn't be in this ROM, please just PM me.
Thanks: JoelZ9614, aamikam
Installation instructions:
First, the usual disclaimers. I supply the ammo, you use it. ROMS don't kill phones, n00bs do. Use this ROM at your own risk as I won't be responsible for bricks or any other untoward happenings. I spent a lot of time ensuring that the stuff in this ROM is fast, smooth, and compatible. But... it always helps to have some familiarity with flashing ROMs to keep yourself safe.
Before you Install, prepare:
This ROM installs as the full 2.89 base except for the kernel: the default kernel is the 2.17 kernel so that it will boot for everyone
Included 2.17 kernel will work for s-on (HTC unlocked) and any hboot from 1.4 up
If you want 100% 2.89 base, the 2.89 kernel is included in the MeanROM-ICS folder on your SD card
Do not flash the 2.89 kernel unless you've upgraded your hboot to 1.58 s-off or you will get boot loops!
To upgrade to 1.58 hboot, see the OP in this thread and yes, if you're 1.4 s-off you'll stay s-off but with 1.58
If you have any trouble at all, do a super wipe and then install the above firmware and this ROM
Go to "Menu", "Settings", "Power" and UNcheck "Fast Boot". When you reboot or power off the phone, you really want it to reboot/power-off. This can save you a lot of headaches.
How to flash
If you're coming from a non 2.89 base ROM (2.17 or prior), a full wipe is recommended. A factory reset is typically enough, then just flash the ROM via your recovery.
Problems after you flash?:
PLEASE DO NOT REPORT PROBLEMS IN THIS THREAD UNTIL you've done a super-wipe and fresh install to see if that cures it. I know I should really just do like most devs and proclaim REQUIRES FULL WIPE/FRESH INSTALL on every version. That saves me a lot of headaches but I know what a PITA a fresh install can be even with MyBackup or Titanium at your disposal. So it never hurts to try just a flash without a full wipe, but if you run into any HINT of a problem... anything at all... don't report the problem in this thread until you've tried a super-wipe and fresh install first to see if that cures the problem!
Note regarding BOTH of the above options: don't flash tweaks or themes on top unless you KNOW the tweak/theme is compatible with the ICS framework (as of this writing, most are NOT compatible - ask the developer.

Right on!! MeanROM ICS!! Downloading now.

I forgot how quick you were with your updates, haha. I JUST got .2 the way I like it. Can I flash right over it?

MeanROM ICS v0.3 up and running with Leedroid Tweaks for ICS.
Installed superwipe, MeanROM ICS, Leedroid Tweaks, and restored data partition from v0.2. So far, so good.

YES! YES! YES! Thanks Mike

Good deal. Mike, any way you can remove the camera sounds? I tried looking for the .ogg files and could not find them. I can see them in rom toolbox but it will not let me mess with them in that program. Think I might have figured out how to fix it. I'll report back.

Looks good so far gonna update this post in few days with issues (if any). I've always been a fan of MeanRom. Thanks!

Sweet!!!
Thank you so much Mike!!! I had .2, but had to go back to 4.3 because of the crappy signal I have at my house. I hope with the roaming fixed this will be the new daily!!

I was waiting for this

[ROM] eViL's NXSense v.1.26 - (F)The (I)Gravy (N)Train [11/04/10]

This was originally a Quick & Dirty port of udK's Froyo HTC Desire Sense ROM. Please give props to him. This is now based on the Official HTC Desire OTA 2.09x and has been slimmed down to fit on the N1 system partition. Thanks to the devs that made this port successful, Paul for starting it, cyanogen for the camera port & intersectRaven for the FM & BT. Thanks to all the flashers who have relentlessly told me of problems.
*As of 9/8/10, it's pretty much a complete port. Obviously bug fixes will keep going and other tweaks.

Paul's 2.2 Sense Port Is More Complete
Could you work on Paul's 2.2 Sense Port? I notice this one has alot of nasty bugs. Paul has alot done on his...except for usb mount. I've followed your roms ever since the nano sense on the G1. I know you can do a great job and I wouldn't mind donating to a dev that can make a really good sense rom. Paul's 2.2 Alpha Sense
Not too shabby! Aside from the graphical glitches, lack of phone memory, and the swype f/c on boot, this rom shows a lot of promise and runs pretty smooth! Can't wait to see what you do with this!!
Thank you very much!
thanks for your work firstly..but i hope you will recommend us, specific Kernel, Radio image for this Rom to work.
pretty sweet rom, other than the graphical issues. Nice work...only thing that other people haven't mentioned is that the camera, in the photo settings only shows 3mp, it doesn't show the ability for 5mp. Thats about it.

FAQ

Q: What makes this ROM different than all the other ROMs?
A: First and foremost, you will get the best support from the viperROM Team (-viperboy- and Vinchenzop). We personally reply to almost every post and we're always in the thread trying to help out. If you have to wait more than an hour or so for your question to be answered, that is unusual! What else is different??
The inclusion of the OC Daemon for unprecedented battery life and performance
The custom viperControl script that handles the OC daemon, bloat, and removed app management (more to come too!)
A highly tuned system for incredible smoothness

Q: Do I really need to wipe coming from another version of viperROM?
A: I always recommend that and that is how I test my ROMs. You may be not have any issues if you don't wipe, but you might.

Q: Where are all the cool add-ons?
A: Check post 4 for more information on how to set up and use the viperROM Updater.

Q: What is battery calibration and should I do it?
A: Yes!! If you aren't getting wonderful battery life or you think you can do better, do it! Here is the method I have used even back to my EVO 4G and it has always done well by me: Wipe battery stats (from recovery, or Battery Monitor Widget can do it [Menu > Statistics] and it doesn't matter what percentage you're at when you do so. Let the phone die and then fully charge. Take it off the charger and don't plug it in until it dies again, then fully charge. Your next charge cycle will be much better!
What some people don't understand is that you're not calibrating the battery as you are calibrating the phone. When you wipe and do this procedure, the phone reads where the max and min voltages are so it can report battery stats accurately.

Q: What is the deal with tethering?
A: I would recommend using Sprint Hotspot, it has been unlocked on viperROM so it can be used for free! Wifi Tether is still included but it doesn't seem to work very well for most people. This is an issue with the app, not the ROM. If you do want to try and use it, make sure to enable the Routing Fix in the Settings menu of the app. It has also been said that setting the device configuration to "HTC EVO 4G" helps as well.

Q: What kernel should I use with this ROM?
A: Until HTC releases the source code for the 2.17.161.5 kernel, the stock kernel (comes with rom) is the only one that will not break anything.

Q: Does 3D, 4G, everything work with this ROM?
A: Yes, as long as you don't flash a custom kernel, everything works as it should.

Q: I'm getting less than great battery life, what is the deal?
A: Battery life is affected by many things, such as screen-on time, signal strength, etc. Be sure that you do not have any rogue apps by checking for wakelocks with BetterBatteryStats found Here

Q: Do any themes work with this ROM?
A: The only mods and themes that we can be sure will be compatible with viperROM are the ones that are found within the viperROM Updater app. If there is a theme that you would like to try, make a nandroid and try it. If it doesn't work, restore your nandroid.

Q: My CRT animations don't work...what am I doing wrong?
A: As of the new base from HTC, the line that needs to be added to the build.prop to activate CRT animations causes the phone to not boot. So until an alternative method is found, the CRT animations are not included in any ROM based on the latest OTA update from HTC.

Adjust the OC Daemon
Change schedulers
Adjust voltage (if on a custom kernel)
Manage removed apps
Freeze any app on the phone
Modify lock screen text
Run "fix permissions" (for FC issues)
Adjust the capacitive button brightness
Edit some features in build.prop

OC Daemon
The OC daemon was created by rmk40 of Team Unity. I take no credit for the daemon, only the script I made to make it easier to work with. More information can be found here, but I will sum it up and explain the script below...
This daemon, written in C, completely eliminates the need for SetCPU and other CPU controlling apps. The daemon handles min/max frequencies for both screen on and screen off but it has one more trick up its sleeve... It can change the governor INSTANTLY depending on the screen state. I have tested it and I can tell you that it really does work instantly and I think this is going to be a great battery saver! I have set default values within the ROM as follows: Screen Off - conservative @ 192min/432max and Screen On - ondemand @ 192min/1188max. Using these settings, I get NO lag. Battery life is amazing, over 19+ hours for me with moderate usage!
If you decide that you want to change the settings of the daemon, here is how you do so...
Open up Terminal Emulator
Type "su" (without the quotes and grant it Superuser access if you haven't already)
Type "vc" (without the quotes)
Enter "1" (without the quotes) and you will see all of your options
Click to collapse
All the settings can be edited from there. If you want to verify that this is working, you can run these commands from adb shell:
Current CPU frequency
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq
Current CPU governor
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
Current min CPU Freq (you will see this change when the screen state changes)
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_min_freq
Current max CPU Freq (you will see this change when the screen state changes)
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
The script is pretty good for now and I will eventually incorporate it into a large script exclusive to my ROM. However, here are a few things that you need to know about the script...
You MUST flash a custom kernel to overclock! The ROM includeds the stock kernel that is not capable of overclocking. Well why do you call it the "OC Daemon" then?? Because I didn't make it and that's what they called it AND the daemon is capable of controlling OC. Makes sense to me. If you want to overclock (after flashing a custom kernel, of course), run the script and change the MAX awake to whatever OC you would like.
The phone will boot up and detect if you're using SetCPU or other CPU apps. If you are, the daemon will be DISABLED automatically. If you aren't, the daemon will be enabled.

Using the viperROM Updater App
With the latest release of the ROM, we've included (thanks to tommytomatoe) an app to help keep the rom updated, and give a quick place for our users to find compatible mods and/or themes that we've made. This is the viperROM Updater App. Tommy was kind enough to include instructions, but I'll also add screenshots to help aid, on how to set it up, so you're receiving the latest options for your customization purposes.
First, open the app. This will take you to ROM update/changelog page. Here you can check to see if there is any updates for the ROM, as well as what the most recent changelog is.

Next is the MODS tab. The first time here, it will give you instructions on how to update and manage the update servers. If you followed the instructions correctly, your servers page should show this
Press back (softkeys) and go back to the MODS tab, and press menu, then 'check now'. Your phone should tell you that new updates were found. Press on the dropdown arrow, and you should see all the options available for download.
Updater App FAQs
Q: Where does the updater app download mods to?
A: The app automatically downloads mods/themes/updates to the /sdcard/downloads folder.
Q: After a mod downloads, I get the option to apply it, but it just causes my phone to freeze?
A: The updater app is currently set up to work (full automation) with TWRP 2.0 recovery. If you have ClockworkMod recovery, you can still use the app to download mods, but you'll have to manually reboot into recovery and flash the mod.
Will def be trying this out! Thanks viper

It's plain right now, but people want something to flash. I know how that goes RC1.1 will have:
- New Market
- Optimized Weather (less space)
- Titanium Backup included
Any other suggestions?

No overclocking until a custom kernel is built, otherwise the only way is through script but you would have to redo it every time you reboot.

Should be able to. I could write an init.d script to load in your overclock on boot, but I worry that it may freeze the device since it's loading everything up and you really should clock the phone down before doing the overclock. But I'm sure custom kernels are only a day or two away.

***Bugs***

***To Do/Fix***

-idk, you tell me
-0.5 and milestone 1 are similar and essentially it for eh03....if i happen to get bored and tweak enough stuff that it justifies more than a patch a 0.7 version may be released....but consider milestone 1 a "stable and final" eh03 for those who arent flash addicts
Donations appreciated, but NEVER expected. I'm happy with you just hitting the thanks button

***Before posting questions or comments in the thread, please read all faq's first!!!
FAQ:
Q: Wasn't superclean jt and adryn's rom?
A: Of course. I'm just lazy and couldn't think of anything else to call it, since its not a TSM Rom, and I consider myself to be on good terms with those guys, so I don't think they care.
Q: Will you support this or is this a one time release? (sc):
A: I will support this until everything I aimed to do for it is done. At that point it will just be a nice (i hope) stock + rom, not to be confused with resurrection.
Q: Is EH03 a leak or an ota?:
A: It was previously leaked, but on 12/1/11 it did ota
Q: Can I make suggestions/requests for features to be put in?
A: Of course, but remember its a stockish rom, so I won't go overboard.
Q: My google maps always freezes/locks up, what can I do?
A: This is a major issue for many users across all tw gb roms. Some suggestions are changing memory or kernel settings, or uninstalling google maps and reinstalling from the market.
Q: What kernels work with eh03?
A: The usual suspects.
Q: Ok, but which one do you recommend?
A: Depends on what you want. Stock performance on eh03 is greatly improved and for the first time its *almost* possible imo to run stock and be somewhat happy. I personally use comradesven's kgb kernel series, and enjoy them. It has all the bells and whistles, improves awful tw gb mem management, and doesnt have any serious issues. If you want something a little closer to stock than djp's geewhiz kernels in his rom thread are very reliable and perform well. I know many run imoseyen's lean kernel, but the latest breaks video playback and he splits his time amongst at least 3 phones, and aosp and oem skin kernels and just doesnt have the time to put his all into i500 kernels imo. But again this is just my .02 and not gospel, obviously.
Q: Is there a mez/showcase version?
A: Yes, on rootzwiki.
Q: Can you put adblocking into the rom?
A: Generally speaking I do that in my roms, but since this is meant to be an enhancement to the stock rom, no. Ad block does interfere with a limited # of apps/games, and many people want it undone immediately. Download adfree from the android market and run that to remove apps.
Q: With the 0.5 update, voice to text and navigation is screwed up and fcing help?
A: Wipe data in voice search and/or maps in settings -> manage applications or with tibu
Q: How do I add apps/icons to the dock on touchwiz 3 and 4?
A: open app drawer -> click on soft menu key -> view type -> customizable grid -> soft menu key again -> edit -> drag icon into dock -> soft menu key -> save
Q: I am having issues with the stock gallery locking up/force closing, help?
A: Download quickpic from the market...for whatever reason both eh09 and eh03 (dont know about ei20) have had issues with this even stock.
Q: Umm, I'm having issues and wanted to logcat them, but logcat isnt working?!?!?
A: If you are using eh09 or ei20 kernels with eh03, there are some driver issues that prevent it from working. It seems to be the only drawback from using those kernels afaik.
A2: as of late December, comradesven as a fix for logcat when using ei20/eh09 based kernels with eh03...check his kgb rom thread here
Q: What is the recommended radio?
A: Thats subjective to each phone/location. I have found the EH03 radio works a tad better than ec09 for me, others are the opposite. Some still prefer eb01. When going to a new radio however, I recommend doing a *228 to update your prl...seems to help :shrugs:
Q: How is performance relative to MTD/other touchwiz?
A: Let's face it, MTD is faster...I don't think anyone would debate that. If you are using touchwiz instead of MTD, I would assume you have a reason other than performance though. But compared to eh09 and ei20 I think there is a noticable bump in real world performance, benchmarks aside...and the semi-annoying random screen on moments from ei20 aren't present.
Q: I flashed the aosp lockscreen patch but I'm still getting the puzzle answer screen when I get a call, heh?
A: In settings - > display change from puzzle to glass for unlock screen.
Q: When will this reach *final* status?
A: Probably soon. I've knocked off most of my to-do list and since (again) this is a stock + rom there is not much left to do. I'd imagine that 0.6 or 0.7 will be final unless something comes up or we get a magical new leak.
A2: as of 1/5/12 eh03 has gone to *milestone* status with a final eh03 release. similar to 0.5, but with some differences. if/when vzw or another carrier has another leak/release superclean may make its way to that, assuming its a quality release/leak.
Q: Can you give me a more specific rundown of eh09/ei20/eh03?
A: alright
Eh09: 2.3.4, officially for the uscc mesmerize, cs showcase, and some of the other regional variants, kernel source is out, benchmarks (ugh) 950-1100 quadrant on stock rfs kernel, native google search/apps, power control extra toggle is sound/vibrate not mobile data
ei20: 2.3.5, officially out for uscc mes now (i think) and acg and a few other carriers, kernel source is out, benchmarks about same as eh09, native google search/apps, random screen on moments happen occasionally, power control extra toggle is sound/vibrate not mobile data
eh03: 2.3.5, official verizon rom that was leaked before eventually being an ota, kernel source is now out and being integrated into custom kernel, but eh09/ei20 kernels are compatible, save for the fact they break adb logcat (there is a fix now though), reported benchmarks stock are anywhere from 1450-1700 stock rfs on quadrant, native bing search/apps but not as instrusive as in eclair/froyo, better real world performance than the other 2 imo, power control extra toggle is mobile data, not sound/vibrate
Q: Are you going to make any themes for this?
A: Aside from the mild tw4 icons and and images I put in this rom to clean it up a bit, no. I do still enjoy theming (you may recall I used to put out dozens of themes before getting into roms) but to maintain a rom AND themes for that rom is tough. I tried it on the inc2 but got to be too much, so aside from the theme in the rom, I will not do independent themes.
Q: It seems like no one makes any themes anymore, are there any?
A: Well times have changed. Back in the heyday of this phone, there was 10 or so active themers, plus another 10 people who did 1 off or two themes...and there was basically only one or two roms: superclean and maybe something else...and eventually comrom became the big thing. Now there is a much smaller community and many use aosp, and most themers have either stopped theming, or gotten new phones. That being said, notta has some wonderful themes out for several roms, including this rom, see the thread here.
Q: Is the ota eh03 from 12/1 any different than the leak this was based off of?
A: Essentially they are the exact same thing. A slightly newer vzw navigator is about all (which I dont include in this rom anyway). So there is no need to take the ota to get some magically different rom package.
Q: What is a milestone version of the rom?
A: Just means its essentially final for whatever release version sc is based on. GAPPS removed to keep rom more up to date.

you could also odin the full eh03 file, and then push cwr afterwards as well
or if you use heimdall just dont flash recovery
I'm very surprised at the radio speed test results. Eh 03 was 25% higher on upload speed but way slower on download speed than ec 09. All tests conducted on the same spot in my house within 15min and after 228 option.
Noticed no difference here.

I originally started porting ICS to my beloved nexus one the very same day google released the source back in November. I had very little knowledge and no experience porting android. It took 2 days to sort countless build errors and get it booting, only a few days later i was able to release my first alpha (where absolutely nothing worked) It has come a long way since then, with hundreds of hours invested on my part and undying support from this wonderful commutity, I am pleased to announce: as of 2.1.0p11 this rom is /almost/ stable. However it will remain in alpha/beta (whatever you want to call it) a while longer, but the majority of people will find this usable as a daily driver.
For those of you not following this thread. You may not know my nexus died. As in the NAND finally gave out ((bootloader) rbchk: Total 1191 bad blocks!!). And I was able to get a replacement on ebay for $142.50 USD. Paid for entirely with your donations! Thank you to everyone who donated (i can't appreciate it enough). I look forward to bringing you the latest and greatest Ice Cream Sandwich to your n1's.
I have spent many hours and sleepless nights on this. So if you like it please feel free to hit that donate button above that picture of me.

Short FAQ
Q:Screen wont come back on, the buttons light up but i have no screen?!
A: Try taking out your sdcard. If it works you need to reformat your sdcard and whatever you do dont use clockworkmod!
Q: Im getting lockups and have to pull the battery to restart?
A: Easiest way that seems to do the trick: Goto: Evervolv Toolbox -> Performance -> Processor -> change Min Freq to 384Mhz
A: Or: change the governor from ondemand to smartassv2

You must install blackrose hboot before flashing ICS. Instructions.
BlackRose
You must increase the size of the system partiton to fit ICS to at least 210MB
*4/14* I had previously recommended 210 system but am now changing that back to 220. The size of ICS and mainly Gapps is growing and with 210 system on the a2 release, after gapps there is only 6mb free space. That doesnt give me very much room to grow on and can cause problems with people who have bad blocks on the system partiton.
RECOMMENDED: System 220MB Cache 10MB Data 206MB Download
System 210 Cache 8 Userdata 218 Download
(or make your own with the Blackrose installer).
All past builds will work just fine on either layout 210 and 220
Future builds might not fit on 210 as of a2 it is pushing it.
If you are installing for the first time choose the 220mb system.
Flash:
Code:
fastboot flash hboot hboot_brcrust_220-10-206-ICS.nb0
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot -w
If it flashed correctly: after the 'reboot-bootloader' command you will see TexasICS on the second line (under blackrose)

ATTN: ALL BUILDS HOSTED ON GOO.IM WERE LOST.
Here is the final version: http://ev-dl1.deuweri.com/Perdo/Evervolv-Perdo-2.2.0-Final-passion.zip
GAPPS:
(latest are posted to mongoosehelix twitter page) or dl here 5-20-release (thanks TuSKan for the mirror)
Gapps are NOT included in the rom. Reasons for this is 1) smaller upload for me 2) Gapps seem to be the source of most peoples problems. This way you can flash whatever version or package you want/works best (or even make your own custom gapps package)
A2SD

I put the wrong boot animation in a6.
Here's the correct one : http://d-h.st/Heh
Or the old one if you dont like it: http://d-h.st/nCg
THESE ARE NOT FLASHABLE: push or copy to /system/media/bootanimation.zip with adb or root explorer.
Evervolv-Perdo-2.2.0a5-passion (6/23)
main thing here is camcorder, native omx encoding is working but decoding is still broke so you can record videos but cant play them back. Issues: video is capped at 15fps so it is a little choppy, recorded video is rotated 90 degrees
usb tether support: not native, using the motorola usb app not included (push to /system/app then the toggle in settings will work) i'll probably never include this app in the build since it runs as a service and that bothers me
be sure to check out new options in the evtoolbox (lockscreen and interface) and the new evtips widget

Older Builds
Evervolv-Perdo-2.1.0p14 (3/27)
update to gralloc/hwcomposer (slightly smoother)
enable singlepdp ril feature. (should allow easier apn switching)
omx libs included. native hw assisted video not complete in framework (although youtube hq now utilizes the adsp heap, so that progress)
wifi: eap pwd support
mms: misc updates
kernel rebuild with xz compressed, genlock update
much better multitouch experience (theomy)
camera preview works (kushdeck) barcode scanning (tested w/ google goggles) (panorama, video have issues, also there is a memory leak, leaving the camera app open for 2+min will cause OOM to kill the system server possible causing a reboot)

Evervolv-Perdo-2.1.0p11-passion (2/27)
Phone should not lockup anymore when rotating display. Landscape mode is still strange, status bar is rendered halfway off screen...but only when rotating right...going left its fine.
Moved to cayniarbs stock(ish) kernel with my kgsl commits and ksm/zram backported from 3.0
EVtoolbox: new menu 'performance' control zram(aka compcache) and ksm, both disabled by default. ksm will reduce memory overhead by 10-15mb with minimal cpu usage (0-1%). ive read that ksm likes to have swap (10% zram should be enough) but youll have to experiment and see. also added 'processor' menu (also from cm) to view/control cpu stats.
Apps2sd: support moving /data/data, (run 'a2sd install' again and choose y when asked about appdata) im still wary of how to handle wipes when appdata2sd is active. so ive added two functions to a2sd: 'nodatasd' which removes appdata2sd flag and optionally removes the appdata from sdcard and 'nosysdata' which removes only the system appdata (ie anything starting with com.android) from the sdcard
Browser: i revised hwcomposer. redering is faster < 1 to 2 secs max under heavy scrolling
Camera preview is still broke.
Devhost was broke while i was uploading this so everything is just up on the mirror site.

Evervolv-Perdo-2.1.0p9 (2/16)
whats new:
kernel update: 32bit color (fixes gradient backgrounds)
hwcomposer: rewrote from scratch for qsd8k. (main fix is screen off animation)
statusbar: new toolbox, settings button back to opening settings (swipe to change screens). notifications back to stock behavior. toolbox can even be turned off in evtoolbox
browser: slowed rendering, (fuzzy text takes a few seconds to clear up) is much faster now. (1-2 sec instead of 4-5)
known issues:
reboots: check here for initial workaround
removed omx libs due to build error (just use the ones from p8 if you really want them)
rotation still broke, seems to lockup the most on the home screen.
Code:
kgsl kgsl-3d0: |kgsl_mh_intrcallback| axi write error interrupt
and everything else that was broke in p8
updated bug list thanks mrhohoha

Evervolv-Perdo-2.1.0p8 (2/10)
Going forward with release. Nothing major changed since pre-p8. Still same major issues as outlined >here<. But its working good enough mainly releasing for those itching to try out chrome beta.
Whats new?
Massive kernel upgrade: misc wifi updates, fix ext 2/3 mountisg issues, add in call recording feature, updated kgsl (3d driver) to version 3.3 (cherry-picked partial upgrade to 3.7), other misc updates required for new kgsl driver. source is temporarily at https://github.com/drewis/tiamat-kernel/tree/wip9
Rom: now build with proper ICS OPENGL support (ie 100% hardware accelerated)(well more like 80-90% for now). I still have several issues to sort before hwa is working properly but this is a great start (imo). Screen off animation not working due to hwcomposer issue.
Notes:
This build is much less stable than p7 (or lower) but faster
You must turn off auto rotate in Display Settings or you will experience lockups that require a battery pull. (i know whats causing it but it will be a fairly difficult fix)
kernel build #119 which means i build the kernel 119 times to get this far, and that number is much much lower than the actual number of times i built the kernel before i got it booting and (mostly) working. Just something to think about, in terms of how much work it took to get this far
camera preview dont work but still takes pictures. also does not include rapmv78 newest fixes for panorama and barcode (didn't seem necessary to include them sinc camera preview doesnt work)
Gapps need to be flashed separetly.

Apps2sd: modded scripts.

swap support (if you have a swap partiton on your sdcard)
new help menu run 'a2sd' without arguments to see
Note: all apps2sd info is logged in logcat. Its at the very beginning under the evervolv banner.
USB: native usb mass storage - almost but not working yet (but we're closer)
Note: even though it doest work we now have some annoying usb and adb icons persistent in status bar. sorry i tried to rush the usb fix into this build and didnt feel like taking it out after it didnt work. (we're gonna start porting new usb gadget eventually to fix this)

Init.d support.
Included my homebrew a2sd that just sets /sd-ext/app and app-private on the first boot (assuming you wiped with fastboot (actually i think it works without wiping as well but untested)) all the apps already on /sd-ext will then show up without further involvement. (if you wiped with recovery it probably removed the apps on /sd-ext. You can prevent this by going to advanced and only wiping cache and userdata.)
If you dont want that. remove /system/etc/init.d/05mountext and 10apps2sd then flash dark tremors.
Google TTS should now work (was missing a library)
SuperUser should be working.
Removed some extra fonts (saves like 2mb)
e2fsprogs and bash are actually included in this one.

Evervolv-Perdo-2.0.0p3-ITL41D-passion.zip - 101.1 MB
Merge in surfacetexture mod by rapmv78. No more "unable to dequeue native buffer" errors.
So this is basically a combination of rmcc, TwistedUmbrella, and rapmv78 egl mods.
It seems very smooth and usable therefore; im am releasing two builds one for blackrose(the one i posted), one for stock.
You might get a random offset error but it will still work just fine.
Evervolv Gapps:gapps_evervolv_ICS.zip - 26.0 MB
EV-Alpha2 ics-passion-ev-alpha2.tar.bz2 - 129.5 MB
Stock Evervolv with these additions:
Merged it TwistedUmbrella egl mods
Added gapps, Bexton's UMS with notifications, bash, htop, rsync, other cmdline goodies
Use N1 boot animation
Gallery works, Maps work.
Haven't had a single crash in 1 hour (make that 2 hours) of use so far. I even watched a video on youtube.
Might be the best one yet (let me know).
Proc usage while playing youtube video:
EV-Alpha1 ics-passion-ev-alpha1.tar.bz2 - 127.2 MB
I joined with the Evervolv team.
This is stock evervolv ics (with my passion device directories).
These are build without opengl but with the rmcc egl hacks and the old gralloc.
This is an eng build with strictmode disabled. So all 'extras' that come with eng are included. (except strict mode)
I added gapps. and Bextons usb mass storage app.
Tested sound and gps they work.
Other than that gallery crashes, boot animation is too small, maps won't load.
Pedlars notification widget and CMSettings aren't in this one.
Nothing drastically different from alpha13. Just a different build tree.
Alpha13r1 ics-passion-alpha13r1.tar.bz2 - 134.3 MB
Exactly the same as alpha13 but without opengl enabled.
Difference: Notably slower, but all the apps work and no crashes. This is much more usable than alpha13. Im gonna stop messing with opengl until we get a proper kernel.
Alpha13 ics-passion-alpha13.tar.bz2 - 131.4 MB
In my failure to bring real hardware accelaration; here's a little hack for you.
There is alot of hype floating around about hardware (gpu) acceleration. The truth is nobody with adreno gpu has it. They only have software acceleration. Some have gotten it to work better than others. Personally i have not put very much time into the 'software hacks' being used. Because heavy kernel mods need to be made to get proper gpu acceleration; on this I have spend nearly 40 hours on with no notable progress made. I'd say in total I have spent 200+ hours trying to make this rom work but it really isn't an easy task. This rom is still very unstable and won't ever work properly until we have proper gpu acceleration. For general purpose (ie. Calls, Messaging, Web Browsing, Music) it works fine, please dont expect more from it. Thanks for testing.
Includes latest from CM.
Ril has these options available in build.prop:
ro.telephony.ril.v3=signalstrength,skipbrokendatacall,facilitylock,datacall,icccardstatus
Only one that is enabled is signalstrength. You can try a combination of them an see if it fixes your data issues.
Fixed (from alpha12): Sound, GPS, Mobile signal, Enable opengl (w/ software hack)
Removed DTApps2sd since it won't work without init.d support.
Gallery keeps force closing. Don't know why.
Settings keep crashing. Don't know why.
Alpha12 ics-passion-alpha12.tar.bz2 - 123.0 MB
EDIT: DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS. Looks like sound is broken too. Looks like alpha10 is the best bet sofar. Only downhill from there.
EDIT2: err looks like you can push audio.primary.qsd8k and audio_policy.qsd8k to get sound back. (untested)
EDIT3: I was wondering why system size was so much smaller lol.
DISABLE OPENGL: The HWA hack just sucks too much.
Use N1 stock bootanimation. It's cooler. (Oh, and I don't care what you think)
set config_hspa_data_distinguishable to true (Get an H instead of 3g)(I like it more)
Add some overlay items from crespo
Add some optimization cc flags
There were a couple ril changes to cm, maybe this will fix your data issues?
It seems Gallery will not work unless opengl is enabled (regardless of dalvik heap size)
Add htop, powertop, nano, vim, e2fsprogs (when using adb shell type bash to get them to work)
Remove Maps: So you can install the market version.
GPS is broke. It couldn't get it to build so just copied gps.mahmahi from previous build but that didnt work. I'll sort it out later. If you need gps dont upgrade.
Added Darktremor's Apps2sd modified for native bash support (in xbin). But it is not working. /sd-ext is not being mounted. It wont execute at runtime. The way it is set up. init.rc calls etc/init.local.rc calls bin/sysinit calls xbin/run-parts which calls etc/init.d/05mountsd now for somereason 05mountsd is not installed as executable even though it is executable in my out folder. changing 05mountsd to executable afterward still doesnt work. maybe someone can help me out here. my thought is init.d isn't setup properly. Also i would like to keep sysinit (or run-parts) being called from init.local.rc to keep init.rc and init.mahimahi.rc cleaner.
Alpha11 ics-passion-alpha11.tar.bz2 - 130.0 MB Alpha11 is provided out of courtesy and is not supported my me complains about it will be ignored.

Increase pointer speed to 100 (clicking still doesnt work but hey fast cursor lol)
Update to wpa_supplicant 8 (fixes wifi icon)
Enable OPENGL: Pulled HWA fixes from preludedrew's (evervolv) repo. (NOTE: not real HWA but better)(May exerience significant battery drain)
Update adreno blobs from inc evervolv repo
**W/HardwareRenderer( 1557): Mountain View, we've had a problem here. Switching back to software rendering.**

Alpha9 Link
First taste of CM9
Kernel: Kanged pershoots with netstats ported by me from teamhacksung.
Thanks texasice, great work! Will test now. To clarify, is the partition layout mandatory? I have blackrose and can change it myself, but any rationale on this 220/16/200 layout in particular would be helpful.

Any system partition with 200MB or more will work [But the ramdisk is setup for the sys220/cache16/data200 it should still work with other layouts though]
How is texting speed on this one without HW Accel?

I removed gralloc from this build so it is much faster than alpha8. Texting is fine for my slow fingers
So what is to become of the stock Rom?

this is exciting.
And my N1 lives again. This is awesome.
I sometimes do get frustrated by lack of processor and memory. but I just can't seem to upgrade from my N1. Maybe if I get ICS on my N1 I might not have to.

Thats the idea lol. If i could afford a new phone i would get a a galaxy nexus. But im poor so nexus one gets all my love
Even without hardware accel, alpha 9 feels pretty usable.
Thanks for your efforts - great work!
If do this...does it mean that changing Roms is not as simple as just going into recovery and flashing the ROM? Does it take more steps like changing the partition again?
Reserved Spot for later =D

Simply no. You have a couple options. 1 you can flash the cm7 i built and keep the my new repartitioned hboot. (This is where you need the recovery i provided to flash the cm gapps) 2. You can reflash the 'standard' blackrose hboot and put any rom you want on it. (Without installing my recovery)
Either way blackrose is mandatory. System img is ~192mb so it is too big for stock hboot. So the system partition needs to be grown.
Looks good!
But I will have to wait a little longer to dust off my N1 to try this, because I have a broken power button so I need trackball wake!

I assume you can make CM9 yourself.
Maybe you are the last person to try to use CM9 with blackrose.
Right?
I don't know why you hate blackrose
It's not possible. System apps MUST be on NAND. Period.
Sorry if im a bit rougth but you have to realize that google banned the ICS for N1 due the small system partition. They dont want to upgrade HBOOT because is so dangerous to do via OTA.

Stop spamming.
If you do not want this, then don't use it.
Threatening Devs in dev thread seems very inappropriate.

Credit diestarbucks for pulling and deodexing the stock base
Perpetual thanks to il Duce and Steal25 for ongoing collaborations on various projects!
Thanks banccalif for the graphics!
Want my stuff?:
If you see something in this ROM and I don't reference some other source, I probably coded it myself. If you want it: take it and use it in your ROM, your theme, whatever you like. I just ask that you please credit me. I'm a firm believer in Android and open source so you don't even have to ask. Anything you see here... it's yours for just the price of a simple line crediting me. I always share as I believe that's the way we developers put the power in Android... and one way we can fight "the Apple brainwashing machine".
Below are some pointers on updating your firmware, installing recoveries, modding, etc. before we get to the good stuff (installation and downloads).
How to adjust some parameters like performance-vs-battery, screen on with new SMS, etc.
See post 3 below
CHANGELOG:
See post #2
Problems after you flash?:
PLEASE DO NOT REPORT PROBLEMS IN THIS THREAD UNTIL you've done a full wipe and fresh install to see if that cures it. I know I should really just do like most devs and proclaim REQUIRES FULL WIPE/FRESH INSTALL on every version. That saves me a lot of headaches but I know what a PITA a fresh install can be even with MyBackup or Titanium at your disposal. So it never hurts to try just a flash without a full wipe, but if you run into any HINT of a problem... anything at all... don't report the problem in this thread until you've tried a full wipe and fresh install first to see if that cures the problem!
Note regarding tweaks: don't flash tweaks or themes on top unless you KNOW the tweak/theme is compatible with the JB framework (as of this writing, most are NOT compatible - ask the developer.
Installation - a final note:
First, the usual disclaimers. I supply the ammo, you use it. ROMS don't kill phones, n00bs do. Use this ROM at your own risk as I won't be responsible for bricks or any other untoward happenings. I spent a lot of time ensuring that the stuff in this ROM is fast, smooth, and compatible. But... it always helps to have some familiarity with flashing ROMs to keep yourself safe.
Download links are below, but before flashing any custom ROM, make sure you do it right or you could brick the NFC chip in your phone (and Google Wallet)
Firmware (applies to s-off users)
Note: unlike the ROM itself, firmware is NOT flashed via TWRP recovery. Firmware is flashed via the bootloader by placing PJ75IMG.zip on the root of your /sdcard2 and rebooting into bootloader!
Also: once the bootloader firmware install has completed, don't forget to delete the PJ75IMG.zip file after your phone boots the first time.
READ CAREFULLY TO AVOID BRICKING YOUR DEVICE!
The latest full firmware (radio, etc.) is recommended. Check the firmware by pressing Menu while on your home screen, choose "Settings", "About" (bottom of list), "Software Information", "More". If your baseband is less than 1.12.11.1210, you have old firmware and should update else you could have problems with your data connection, reboots, etc. If you're s-off, you can flash the 3.16 firmware via one of the options here. Please do not use other firmware sources or you may brick your device! Note that both the full 3.16 firmware and the new touch panel firmware are recommended for best performance, but be aware that the new touch panel firmware will only work with 3.16 based ROMs! If you tend to switch between 3.15 and 3.16 ROMs or you like to try AOSP ROMs, stick with the old touch panel firmware and don't flash the touch panel update.
Now to installation of the ROM itself...
s-off installation
Always make a Nandroid backup before installing anything on your phone!
On first install of MeanBean, do a full wipe (at least a factory reset)
Subsequent updates: no wiping necessary BUT...
If you have any trouble at all, do a full wipe and then reinstall
Install using TWRP recovery (again, s-off recommended)
After the first boot on a fresh install, go to "Menu", "Settings", "Power" and UNcheck "Fast Boot". When you reboot or power off the phone, you really want it to reboot/power-off. This can save you a lot of headaches.
s-on installation
Note that with s-on, TWO things must be flashed separately: the ROM ZIP and the kernel inside that ZIP. The built in kernel installer (thanks Haus) will take care of this without any extra work on your part: just flash with TWRP! Follow the instructions below, however, so you'll know what to expect because there are some pauses and an extra reboot involved whenever the kernel in the ROM is updated.
Boot to TWRP recovery (hold vol down and press power for 1 second while you continue holding vol down until you see the bootloader, then choose "recovery")
Always make a Nandroid backup before installing anything on your phone!
On first install of MeanBean, do a full wipe (at least a factory reset)
Subsequent updates: no wiping necessary BUT...
If you have any trouble at all, do a full wipe and then reinstall
In TWRP recovery, choose "Install" and locate the ROM ZIP you downloaded and begin the install.
The installation will usually complete relatively quickly but if a new boot.img is included in the ROM, it may take 5 minutes or longer to flash: please be patient!
When the installation is complete, if you see the word "Look!" in large text, a new boot.img was flashed and you are not done yet! In that case, continue to the next step. If you do NOT see the word "Look!", you can reboot and you are done flashing.
When the word "Look!" appears, simply "reboot system" normally from recovery. Your phone will begin to boot but will reboot during the boot animation and then boot back to recovery. At that point, simply flash the ROM a second time from recovery to complete the install. This process is required for the s-on installer to do its job. Once you install the ROM a second time and reboot, your phone will boot normally.
After the first boot on a fresh install, go to "Menu", "Settings", "Power" and UNcheck "Fast Boot". When you reboot or power off the phone, you really want it to reboot/power-off. This can save you a lot of headaches.
s-on additional notes
If you have a new phone and are starting from scratch, use these instructions to unlock your phone and install TWRP recovery. These instructions work for all current software including the latest 3.16. Follow all steps up through and including step 28, except in step 25, use the latest openrecovery*.img file from here instead of the old 2.1.8 version listed on the page. Once you successfully complete step 28, you can boot to recovery and install MeanBean.
If you've already unlocked via the HTC method above and you already have TWRP recovery installed, use the above instructions but if you have any trouble, here are instructions on how to manually install the ROM and kernel separately.
Have trouble after trying to flash s-on: reread the s-on instructions above and be sure to follow each step. If you have done that and still have trouble, try this info.
Updating your firmware to the 3.16 RUU is another story altogether so I'll leave the firmware/radio updates to other threads.
Note about TWRP recovery: TWRP 2.4.1.0 recommended (required if running the latest touch panel firmware).
... you're gonna break it!
Don't flash any other mods, tweaks, or themes unless they specifically say they are built for (the latest version of) MeanBean or you WILL break features in this ROM and/or cause instability! While this ROM is designed to have the general look/feel of Sense 4+, it is highly customized under the hood and mods, tweaks, or themes not designed specifically for this ROM will cause problems. If you want this ROM to run perfectly without any issues, do not flash anything on top. For OMJ mod pack compatibility, see post 3.

Latest 3.09 (mirror)
After flashing the ROM, flash /sdcard/MeanBean/stickysettings.zip to set your favorite options. You can flash stickysettings.zip after flashing the ROM: no need to reboot first.
Note: if you have any stability problems, flash /sdcard/MeanBean/stickysettings.zip and choose "Stock" kernel to turn overclocking and kernel mods off (see post 3)

[U]Installation notes:[/U]
You must do a full wipe/clean install for this release.
Aroma Installer for all ROM settings!
Flash stickysettings.zip in /sdcard/MeanBean to choose ROM settings such as overclocking, button layouts, haptic feedback settings, button brightness and much more. When you choose your settings in the Aroma installer, they will stick and survive dirty ROM updates, so you only have to flash stickysettings.zip when you want to change options! There is no longer any need to create or edit the ROM settings in /data/MeanBean.opt because the stickysettings.zip Aroma installer now builds that file for you based on your selections!
Overclocking: The ROM installs with the stock kernel with no mods (no OC, governors, zRAM, and Xbox controller support). To enable these options, flash the stickysettings.zip Aroma installer and choose "Modified" on the kernel options. This will open up kernel options and you can select what you like. The recommended settings for a modified kernel are the defaults. If you have trouble with reboots, apps closing, or other "random" problems, your phone probably can't run the current overclocking setting. Just flash the sticky settings, reduce the OC setting, reboot, and run an AnTuTu benchmark. If the AnTuTu benchmark closes when you run it (disappears), you are still running too fast: just keep backing off the OC setting until your phone (AnTuTu) is stable. Note that choosing "Max" for the voltage will typically let you run higher levels of OC.
WiFi Tether: If you have problems with WiFi Tether, run it once and choose "Auto" configuration in the settings. Then reboot and it should fix the problems. Also, try using "open" (no security): a few people have reported problems using security (WEP, WPA) on Jelly Bean with this app.
New user customizable white (no kill) list sticky settings
New task killer white list (updated for v1.7 and up):
To customize the white list (no kill list), first flash "whitelist-template.zip" from your /sdcard/MeanBean folder. This will create the /data/MeanBean.wl file. The /data/MeanBean.wl file is a simple text file containing one process per line. To find the process name of a running process or app so you'll know what to put in the list, use System Tuner from the market and click on the task manager button in System Tuner. Then tap on the process/app name and the process name will be shown in the details for that app. You can then enter (all or part of) that process name in the /data/MeanBean.wl file. Wild cards are OK but be careful: for example, you can enter just "handcent" (without quotes) instead of entering the entire "com.handcent.nextsms" process name.
White list notes:
After flashing whitelist-template.zip, you'll notice the top 7 slots are the default ones for MeanBean: these can be deleted/changed!
16 slots are available: to keep things clean, always leave all 16 lines in the MeanBean.wl file, including the ones that say <empty>
Each line in the file should contain only (all or part of) a process name or <empty> trailing entries: no comment lines allowed!
The list will terminate on the first <empty> entry, so don't leave <empty> entries in the middle of the list
For the last (16th) entry to work, you must leave the carriage return at the end (so that there's an empty 17th line)
The /data/MeanBean.wl file does not need to be marked with execute permissions: the whitelist-template.zip file will set perms as needed
Recommend editing the file with ES File Explorer (in root mode) or Root Explorer so as not to corrupt the file format
Process names are case sensitive like must Unix type commands: so make sure you get case correct in process names

Hello all, just a quick question from a noob -
I am s-off on hboot 1.19 - will this rom include the radio/firmware or does that have to be installed separately from one of the links that's provided in another thread.
Thanks,
Thanks Mikey! "Bean" waiting for this one!
Sweet! Thanks for busting this out so fast Mike. Can't wait to try this out.
Sent from the future, without LTE!
New question. Will it be possible to put back the Sweep Gestures in JB? I really started to like that feature that you added in ICS? Sorry if it was asked in the ICS thread.

No, not until HTC releases kernel source. But I've got some ideas that might work in the mean time (for a future release). As for MeanBean 0.1, it's in the pipe. ETA 30 minutes!
