New Beginnings: Dev Appreciation Thread - HTC Rezound

I've seen these in other parts of the community...
Given the recent events, I believe the creed going forward should be "show some love".
While I don't feel it's limited to just devs, as members make XDA go in circles also, I do think the devs here need to know they're loved.
That said, I'd like to start by saying thanks to JoelZ, DMeadows, Scott, Con and a non-dev, dev, Marine.
I'm sure I'm forgetting someone but these are the guys that come to mind first...
I have made it a point in my XDA history not to post unless it's necessary or I'm trying to be informative. I generally stay on-topic etc so count this as an exception, lol.
Anyways, guys, you've all been so helpful to me, on a personal level. I've pm'ed a couple of you on various things and you've always been quick and genuinely helpful in your responses and that is awesome.
It's because of you I will be hanging onto my rezound for awhile, as you've made a few months not having CM a little less painful with all of your hard work, friendliness and enthusiasm.
I encourage other users to post their feelings, remarks, comments to their favorite dev(s) and be let them hear how awesome-sauce they are.
Thanks again
Sincerely,
This Guy

To My Fellow Devs!

This is my personal thanks to all the Developers on here. Without you, we wouldn't have the great things we do now. I want you to be reminded that your hard work doesn't go unrecognized, and hopefully you can continue to deal with us, the people, and still provide us with awesome products. If you read this, hit thanks.
Edit: There are so many others who deserve thanks and appreciation. For example, andybones is one of them, who is always helping out those in need. Also, people like us, who like to help others as well, and keep our patience intact when times get tough.
Special Note: Protekk, I'm sorry for the ones who drove you away from the Rezound community. I didn't pay attention to any sort of progress you had going, but I'm sure it was great since you have done a lot as a developer. I doubt you'll ever read this, but if you did, just know a lot of members feel bad as to what happened. Leave your legacy, Protekk.

Don't forget Newt, his ril fix was impressive. Thanks to everyone that helps folks around here. We have a lot of folks new to Modding in this forum. Lets be patient and help one another so we can all get more from and enjoy our device.

One thing I notice is that a Dev will get 20 posts of people praising them for their work, clicking the thanks button, and then one person out of that 20 says something dumb or is unappreciative and that is the one that gets the attention, and the Dev getting irritated about it. I sucks that there are a few unappreciative people out there, but I think the Devs need to weigh that against the huge majority of appreciative and thankful people.
The devs here do great, amazing work and deserve all the thanks they get.

This, exactly.
It's not the community that's bad, it's one or two individuals.

All of these guys are absolutely amazing at what they do. Thanks for the hard work. I appreciate all you guys do to make my phone better.

dont forget about the lurkers like myself. I don't say much, but i always hit thanks on a helpful post or anything i D/L. I don't say very much at all but I would like to thank all of the people out there who make this phone way awesomer than it already is. I'm not gonna drop names, but if youve contributed even in a small way, THANKS! (yes i just used the word awesomer)

I just wanted to bump this to the top so it is easily seen. I have modded multiple devices, and can say that the rezound has been the one with the longest learning curve. Our forum is junked up because we, as a community, have allowed it to happen. Instead of one newb learning, and posting a definitive guide on how to do some of the stuff, or a simple walk thru explanation, we have twice the threads. Before anyone jumps on me to do it, or that is why we need to search, XDA search sucks. I don't know enough to do this. I am still confused about the multiple hboots, and would want someone who knows their stuff, so would you. If you look at our stickies, they are all old. I have been on forums where all of the important info is in the top 2 stickies. Hell, Fattire helped the nook color forum learn how to build cm9 from source. (should check it out, that thread is amazing)So Veterans attacking newbs has got to stop. Newbs attacking Vets, and Dev's has got to stop. Attacking Marcus has got to stop. If we tried helping people instead of wasting all of our time holding them down, we would evolve as a community. I am not harassing, or blaming anyone. Thank you to all of those that blaze the trail ahead of us. Thank you to Nils, Joel,Bored, Newt, DMeadows, Protekk, paulie vicious, Con, and everybody else that has contributed to the Rezound. I may post here again to bump it up because this is one of the most important threads in general.
Edit: also want to thank all of the kernel developers, themers, and newbs.

Andybones!!!!
Just saw your post in the other thread... that sucks, please don't be a stranger, you helped me a lot too... one of 2 XDA people I've ever bothered to Gtalk with, thanks for all you've done sir

Another bump. I have mostly been quiet unless I thought my contributions could help. I think the devs generally get the thanks they deserve, but not always.
Thanks, Scott, Con, antp, graymonkey44, NilsP, Newt, and SO many more. Don't let the negative get to you. There are SO many people here who never post a word who appreciate your work.
And to those of you who take it as your personal responsibility to jump on or flame noobs or anyone, just chill, ok?
I believe we can all be civil to one another and still have fun and teach/learn.
Thanks again to everyone who puts their time in and makes this a better place.

I'm a big fan of many of the Devs here. Some I met in the Incredible forums. All of them are brilliant at what they do. Joel, Newt, bored, Nils, you guys are my personal favorites.
Some devs here are more humble and down-to-earth than others. Some are total head cases! LOL!
Nils is a prime example of a Dev who does amazing work, but doesn't make a spectacle of himself by obnoxiously tooting his own horn. But you can tell by his legion of loyal ROM flashers that his work is top shelf. He is very patient, helpful, and probably the best of the bunch when it comes to troubleshooting and technical support. Obviously, I'm a big fan. He's a class act.
Some folks here can't resist telling us over and over about how great they are, and it can get a little tedious. If your work is good, your 'thanks' meter, positive feedback, and donation balance should reflect that and be ego boost enough. Let the masses tell you how good you are. It'll carry more weight.
If we all tried a little harder to keep it classy and respect each other, this place might attract devs instead of running them off.
Thanks,
BBEgo

A whole lotta thanks son!
I do appreciate all of the Devs for putting real life things on hold to provide us those dope roms on their own time and dime. Words cannot express how grateful we should all be that these guys/gals put up a lot of their time and knowledge for us.
The least we can do is give a "Thanks" and search the Dev thread BEFORE you ask a question because 9/10 it has already been address/answered. Do not make your first post in a thread "When's the next update" or "Can you fix this" or "Why doesn't this work". If we were to do the simple things like that the Devs would be much happier.
Lastly, I would also like to point out there are many of us users who also spend quite a bit of time on this forum to help other users with the bit of knowledge they have. I think those guys/gals also deserve a shout out as well because they also do help make things a slight bit easier for the real deal Developers.
Just sayin

Favor
When I was young, when someone did something for you that they didn't HAVE to do, that was called a "favor". And the one lesson that I learned early in life is that you don't question a favor - you accept it. You say thank you. And just because you got one favor, don't assume you are going to get another one. You aren't "entitled" to anything as the result of a favor, nor does the person that did the favor HAVE to keep doing favors for you. He or she deserves your gratitude, if not a good deal more.
As far as I'm concerned these Devs, Themers, Contributors, Helpers, etc., are doing us, the Users, Flashers, Lurkers, etc., a FAVOR. Accept the favor, thank the person doing the favor, but don't question the favor.
Just sayin'......

Android...open source platform...really?

First things first thanks development gurus for all your amazing efforts. Now that being said and this is actually more of an observation on the "community " as a whole...
The flame wars and the bickering acomplish nothing. There's a saying "together we all accomplish more." So why not source share across the board? It is supposedly an open platform right? Give appropriate dues and together who know what's possible. I don't think anyone is trying to take anyone's lime light. There may have been some inadvertent slips where credit wasn't given. I don't think it was malicious though.
I just wanted to say this because all of this petty back and forth takes away from the development (which is the basis of the community ). And for those just looking for drama seek it elsewhere please. It serves no purpose here.
Respectfully,
Chris
It's a nice thought but the devs are a strange breed and some require all the attention so they can feel good. People like drama and devs are just as bad as teenage girls.

The ones who act like little girls are the noobs that need spoon-feeding and don't get it, and the old bats who don't understand the process, like you
I'll admit, when I release a new update of ZenEXP-Eris and people enjoy it, it makes me feel good, but I don't do it to get my rocks off, pal.

Agreed. I haven't even been here that long and I've seen it go down hill ever since we got root and a lot of ROMs started coming out. Can't we just go back to the way it was and all get along?

Appreciation fund for developers

Changing to my appreciation/donation fund. I know I'm new here, and want to contribute where I can. That being said I want to contribute to the Developer(s) that get the phone root for us. In appreciation.
I know I could wait for HTC (if they) unlock it. But let's face it, we want it now and who knows if/when HTC will come through.
Again this is to express appreciation to the dev's. And duce this will buy you a few gallons of haagen dazs
If I'm out of line here then a mod can delete this, otherwise I'll start by and will keep a tally updated:
w9sig - 25.00

Anyways, Bounties always help drive developers to root things faster, Sounds cool to me.
1: Wrong section (this itself isn't development)
2: Bounties suck. Give someone a few bucks for helping you out if they're working on it. Don't hold money over their heads and tell them they can only have it if they drop their lives to give the public something that they're working on in their spare time.
Personally I think bounties just tend to start fights about who contributed what... hard to pay a bounty when 3 or 5 or 10 people contributed.
That said... I won't stop you from trying...

My reasoning is the same as what Haus said. If you offer a bounty, people stop sharing information and try to get it done first and quickest because they know that only the person that gives the answer will get the money.
Example:
If I were to offer $500 to the first person to answer 50 specific questions... Do you think anyone would answer a post that said "Hey what's the answer to number 7?" Everyone would want to keep to themselves and not help anyone else.
Obviously this is different, but that's a more extreme idea to get the point out there.
If you feel like someone is working hard, or has worked hard... Donate a few dollars to them to give them something for their time. I really don't like the idea of bounties because it then puts pressure on people to keep going and ignore other things, as only one person will get the big bounty (if people actually even pay what they said they would).
Holy... I think I just saw Stericson. This phone is bringing people from everywhere!

Of course I'm not opposed to giving some loot to those that deserve it though. I need to talk to the wife to decide how much I can give up to Haus (and probably others, he isn't the only one I've taken notice of) for his work. I'm sure we'll get root soon, so I'm not worried about forking over some money now to let him know I appreciate the hard work.
I'm pretty sure we didn't need a bounty for this phone to get rooted.

To all the devs here on XDA

I want to publicly thank all of you here on XDA (and some I know are on sdx as well) for your contribution to the rest of us users who lack the talent and downright genius to do what you do. Although some of us are sharp, and know a little bit, you are the 1% of us who have the ability take that idea and design and morph it into a theme or self operating system.
Thank you again. And thank you for being teachers as well! I have learned more in the past 6 months about computers and electronics and Linux than I have in my life being around them.

I also want to thank the devs (whether or not most of them were under my wing at one point or another). You ALL make my phone a ton of fun. I've learned a ton of cool stuff from the devs and users here at xda.

I rarely post but I just wanted to agree with the subject of this thread and the posts in it so far. I've learned so much about Android, adb, etc. since I got my first Evo a little over a year ago. Being able to mod and flash our phones is something I'm sure a lot of us, I know I do, take for granted at times, but is something that wouldn't be available to most without the great Devs here. So I just wanted to say Thanks for making my phones better each and every day.

Well said. And ditto with learning so much since my og Evo. The nook color taught me a few tricks also.
Rootyourdroid.net. My nephews blog.
Your post is excellent. Behind the scenes of any mod, rom and theme is began with a idea to make it different and or better. And the developers are volunteers that help all of us out. They contribute knowledge that when applied let's us get s-off, root, better roms, better performing devices. Countless of hours go to any one single item they put out..and in some instances...many man years, all mostly for free. Time spent away from friends, family job, and other obligation in lives. Some are good, some are bad but all deserve a big THANK YOU.
Good post. It brightens up the forums a little bit.
good post man.. it is important that we continue to show love to the community, this place has turned into such crapfest recently.. and its good to see people posting positive material; devs, chefs and themers need to know that we appreciate their work so that they will continue to press on.. its hard to find the passion to make something when everywhere you turn is some douchebag talking crap about what he doesnt even know..
and many thanks to all of the people who have helped me in my time here, to help me accomplish the things that i can do today.. i wouldnt have thought i would be able to do half of the things that i can do now.. back in my heroC days learning about kernels from decad3nce and s0be, rom building from aosp, and themeing from thoughtlesskyle.. and many many others.. thanks a ton, and heres to a better community.. *cheers*

Who pissed off Mike d?

Who is the culprit here? Someone must have said something. Man up and apologize to him immediately. He's one of the best themers/ modders on this site and it will be so sad without him. my theory is that it's not an individual or a few but the community. everyone was ranting and raving and showing impatience for his upcoming themes. when the time came to release he was underwhelmed from the thanks/donations afterwards. I could be wrong but that's my guess

Sure, they are optional, but people start getting demanding and the money helps put up with the idiots. I think the enjoyment starts to go away.
I always donate to those whose work I consistently use. But then I also buy apps.
There's a reason why devs want to dev for iphone even though there are more android phones out there. Android users tend to be cheapskates who would rather steal an app than pay for it.
cant blame the community . this one is the same as others. i know someone who was working on bamf rezound in the beginning said hed stop cause of the "community" and he did . we're not THAT bad, but quitting cause of that is kinda lame- though i do understand in away .

Yes you do, thank you!
And yes the second part of that statement tends to be true. Users forget that Dev's are people with real lives and real responsibilities and that Android Dev'ing, for the most, of us is just a hobby like collecting Stamps or baseball cards. They seem to think that because we make cool things we are some giant company with the resources of many when in fact we are only one person trying to bring some fun to your device. But anyways.. You know that already and I am grateful for your support!
I don't know about the iPhone thing though. I couldn't deal with it if I had to. I love Android. Never really liked Apple. Hahaha

honestly, I would still be on wp7 if verizon had one with lte and a bigger screen. Really enjoyed my hd7. Spent more time using my phone. Tinkering with it is fun, but didn't miss it jumping from winmo to wp7. Used to build my own roms back then, but haven't had the time to really dive into what makes android tick.
Ok I'll fess up. It was silverxbv2 who did it.
Hahaha

An Apology to the 4G LTE Community

So, let's be honest. I'm not exactly the most popular person on this specific forum.
A lot of you know me for my rather-- well, let's put it kindly, firm opinions when it comes to Apple being discussed here.
That being said, an apology to quite a few of you is in order. Let's face it, all niceties aside, I've made quite a few posts that make me sound like an almighty dickhead, and I admit it, I went overboard. What started out as me being quite protective of the developers on XDA who gives us all we flash kind of gave me a bit of an ego, and I've been quite rude to people who don't really deserve it.
The truth is simple; I love Android. The only reason I'm on this forum is because I love Android. While I may disagree with other users' opinions on Apple, I really should be going about expressing those opinions in a much more constructive way, because reading through my own posts, I can see where I've used phrases or figures of speech that the situation really didn't call for. I've used profanity in many posts even though XDA very much does not allow it.
I've had a specific way of posting for quite some time, and I'd like to change that. I mean, we're all here because of a common interest, right? I'd like to enjoy the company of people who have found happiness in the same things I have. It's really not in my place to tell any of you what to think or what opinions you have, and for that, I am truly sorry for attacking any of you.
I'd like to make this clear; no moderators or staff members asked me to make this post. This isn't the result of two infractions which I've received (which I admit, I deserved). This apology is because I want to remain a part of this community and the way I treat some of you is just not acceptable. In my line of work (in real life), if I talked to any one in the same way which I've talked to some of you, I would be instantly fired.
So here's my resolution. I'd like to make a promise to approach situations with a far, far more respectful and professional manner. I'd like to live up to my Recognized Developer name (as well as put out a few things which I've slowly been working on). Right now, I don't feel deserving of my title, and I want to change how I act to reflect that fact I'd like to keep it.
So in the future, you can expect me to mellow down quite a bit. You can expect me to remain as polite as possible, and to make my posts as informative and as useful as they can possibly be. You can expect me to not be condescending, and you can expect all these things because you shouldn't expect anything less than that from me.
In short; I've been a jackass. Solution: stop being a jackass. :good:
Thanks for reading this.
Sounds like a good solution to me! lol, welcome back from the world of the insane.

Just incredible. I have been fairly drama free but some of my old teammates at Android Creative Syndicate (where I was a Site admin) are pretty mad with me too cause I have also done some wrong things in dealing with my exit from that Site and starting my own. Takes a man to admit when he was wrong and you have inspired me tonight to find some people and make amends. I'm being totally serious to this inspired me. It's huge and I appreciate it. Ty much

LS take some balls for a person in your position on this Site to post a public apology. No one's perfect man. You've given a lot to the community. I'm sure I. Due time, the people who don't know ow you will see that dedication. Good job man.

You never offended me but apology accepted. Takes a real man with some stones to do what you did. Good on ya.

Indeed you are correct sir. Infact Ive made a new pretty awesome friend through these forums. Infact we went disc golfing the other day. Had a great time with someone that has similar interests as I. I look forward to hanging out with him again and look forward to meeting more of you fine people on here. The world is a POS and its nice to be a part of a community that bonds together through similar struggles and endevors. Though its gonna suck in 8 - 12 months when people start jumping ship to the next phone. Until then LETS ROCK THIS MOTHER FATHER!
I'm not sure wth happened, but I still have a ton of respect for you LS, for doing this. As long as I've been here, I have Iseen, and even myself partook in some heated/uncalled for "debates" on XDA but never have I seen anybody sincerely apologize for their mistakes on this forum. I honestly feel that the way we treat people online in mostly anonymous situations like forums shows a lot about our true personalities and morals even when regarding reality...We just tend to bring out the parts online that we're afraid to act on and do because we know how we'd be perceived in reality.
Much respect man.
Good thing i read the last sentence first

Iv learned something lately in dealing w/a really wonderful humanbeing who's addiction makes her not such a nice person....Think long n hard b4 you let what comes outta yer mouth. You dnt knw what the other persons been through n that could really hurt em more than you possibly know. No matter how much ppl get under your skin or say what you perceive as ignorant....speak to em as a wise man/teacher. Maybe they have no idea and could learn from your teachings something positive to pass along to others

I have to say I enjoy reading your debates like Kao and the other poster (sorry, on ltevo app, afraid I will lose typed info if I look).
When u feel u need to challenge fact or opinion for that matter then please do. I come here to learn about the things u may take for granted as a dev.
Disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing makes u a ****. Disagreeing on principle makes u a respectable ****. Or somewhere along those lines.
The line needs to be drawn somewhere I suppose. Don't lose sight of questioning what u should though. This country is going to the ****ter bc we as a whole have allowed it to happen.
Well, I better end this here before I end up being the **** of your apology thread for starting a debate on China being our daddy.

It takes a better man to ignore and oversee stupid childish comments in any forum or in public. Sounds like you have become the better man. Much respect.
via eVo.
Ive been a follower of yours since the Heroc forum liquid. Ive nevrr known you to throw out anything that wasnt deserved. That being said, It takes a pretty big man to throw out an apology of actions like you did here. You have always had my respect and for this that respect has grown that much more. Thanks for the example you have set here sir. Later ,,,,,,
