Any way to get an upgrade early?

Hey, guys. Here's a thread that's not about ICS.
So I've been thinking about getting the new EVO because honestly, I'm done with this phone. It's getting old, beaten, and less responsive. I do not want to return this for a refurbished, due to the fact I unlocked my phone using revolutionary and would not like to deal with the new hboot method.
I'm also getting very slow data speeds, even on Wimax, and coverage for me is spotty at best. The airave is a little help, except for the fact, that from time to time it would send the same text message 17 times.
I don't really use much internet, so i wouldn't mind giving up my unlimited for a 2GB data plan on ATT. I messed with the Note and it is AMAZING especially LTE. Point is, does anyone know if I could recieve an upgrade from Sprint early? That way, I would stay with sprint, get the new Evo, and see if Sprints coverage and LTE is actually worth staying for another two years. I've been a Sprint Premiere gold customer since I joined when the original EVO was out, but now that they have gotten rid of it, I don't see the need to pay 100 a month for service that is mediocre at best. I'm willing to pay the ETF to leave for something better.
I know this should be in Q&A but the Evo 3D forums on XDA have been such a mess, I doubt it matters. Thanks for reading guys.

The only thing I could think of is to wait until the new Evo comes out and ours is past end of life and warranty it a few times. Might have to start before the new one comes out so you can get a 90 day warranty on the refurb before yours original warranty is up. I actually thought about this myself.

It's an awesome phone, but as far as flashing ROMs and kernals, Samsung phones are a headache to me.

I thought you can flash roms and kernels through recovery with the note?
Calling Sprint and asking a few times and getting different reps "can" do the trick at times for ya...just be upfront and tell them your thinking of leaving and just want an upgrade earlier...some reps will do it, some wont.
play the roulette game and see what sticks.
Actually if u have 1 year left with your 2 year contract on your line then u can trade in your EVO for 100 dollars to cancel your contract with that and then renew with 2 years and get the new phone like that,my friend works at sprint and he told me to do that when the new EVO comes out..you basically trade in your phone for 100 to cancel out your contract and just renew and get the new EVO cheaper u get me hope it helps

Yeah but you also have to flash a radio for certain roms if you don't have that radio. For example E706 E501, etc.

Eh? I have had both the Galaxy S and S2 and both were an absolute doddle to install roms on or root, pretty much child's play. Simply open Odin when connected to download mode via USB and pick the file to flash, unless the Note is drastically different?

Last year Sprint gave many of us EVO 4G users an early update.
Not sure if that will be the same this year.

And why would they do this? Phone costs over 500 without contract. It cost $200 with contract when it came out. They won't let you cancel unless its a service issue which they can't resolve.

So you are saying you have to give up your phone and pay $100.00 EFT to get out of your contract 1 year early?
The ETF at 12 months is $240.00. So you are saying that Sprint is giving you a $140.00 credit for your Evo 3d?
Edit: Found that Sprint is giving $99.00 for the Evo 3D buyback program (hell, they are still giving $90.00 for the Evo 4G). So you are about $40.00 off the price here.

My friend did the same thing when the 3d came out he was coming from the OG evo. He gave sprint his OG with the buyback program crediting him $100 bucks. Then he renewed his contract for another 2 years picking up the 3d for $100 bucks total with the $100 credit from his OG turn in. Now Im not sure if it was just that time it could be done because Sprint wasnt as popular at that time then it is now since picking up the iphone and the only carrier to have unlimited data. I hope that type of offer remains because I too want to get the new Evo LTE. I started up with Sprint when the 3D came out which was june 24 of last year so when the Evo LTE releases it should be my 1 year mark. Im keeping my fingers crossed.

Just to add, last year I traded in The OG Evo 4G, for $150 and extended my contract another two years to get the Evo 3D for $200, leaving me to only pay $50 for the 3D.
I'm hoping that I can do the same thing this year.
I texted upgrade, to 1311 and got this:
As of 4/1/12, you are eligible to save up to $150 off SRP plus any promotional discounts w/ 2-yr Agreement
Which is a good sign that I can upgrade come LTE time.

So if the evo lte srp is 500-600, you get only 150 off of that? Or 150 off the 200 subsidized price?
Well it does say off of SRP, but I hope I can get it for the sub price.

What # shipment was this into the US by HTC? This can't possibly be their first shipment into the US if their release date was the 18th for the Evo LTE.
If so, I don't know how they would have gotten off into the scheduled launch date anyways.
I was just about to post this. I have yet to go and reserve the new Evo, but was going to do so on Thursday. WTF Apple. Dirty move.
They must already have some in the country. And I bet they're at the sprint stores.

The US availability of the HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE has been delayed due to a standard U.S. Customs review of shipments that is required after an ITC exclusion order. We believe we are in compliance with the ruling and HTC is working closely with Customs to secure approval. The HTC One X and HTC Evo 4G LTE have been received enthusiastically by customers and we appreciate their patience as we work to get these products into their hands as soon as possible.

Upgrade to EVO 4G LTE by buying out contract

My sister wants to get this phone and she is still on the EVO 4G.
I told her she could just buy out her contract if she wants the full discount. It's only $50.00 (she's a few months out).
The Corporate Sprint store said she had to hand in her old EVO 4G to do the Buyout. She wants to keep it and sell it (she already got offered like $130.00 for it).
She called Sprint and she said she had to go to a Store to do it.
I thought you could just call up sprint, payoff contract and then buy and Sprint phone after full discount from any authorized dealer with a 2 year renewel.
And sell your old phone any old time you want.
I bought out of my contract no problem...they never asked for me to return anything back....besides that she paid for her of EVO with her money I would call again and speak to a diffrent service rep....

You were most likely given bad information. Call again.

No point in calling again. That info is correct. Sprint modified the program. It is no longer being performed thru customer care. It is now being done in the stores and a buyback of the old device IS required. You were told correctly. Customer care can't offer this anymore. It must be done in the stores. This was done to reduce issues from the previous program.

Unless that changed in the last couple of months, its nonsense. Or unless my situation was different. I had three lines on my account and terminated two of them for $50 each over the phone and didn't have to give them a thing.

Couldn't a person just buy some piece of junk on craigs list, activate it on the line and give them that? (moment old blackberry etc) My kid has an epic touch with a crack in the screen that only can be seen with the screen off and they want to give him 40 bucks for it, i don't think so.

You may need to do a little checking yourself. Both my parents and sister did this. 2 paid $50 and my mother payed $100.

A couple of internal docs regarding the new buy-out program were posted on Inside Sprint Now, which of course doesn't exist any more. Yes, starting in the second half of June early buy-outs are only supposed to be done through corp stores and yes, you have to turn in the phone that Sprint gave you in the previous upgrade cycle. The fee depends on the age of the current phone. It is a new program though, so you might still be able to do it the old way by calling customer service and without trading in your current phone, just depends on CSR's knowledge and luck.
Wow, just another reason to leave Sprint I guess. I think that's pretty dumb, as you essentially loose the money you paid for the device. Unless the money you paid to get the device is somehow subtracted from the price you pay to buy out the contract.
yeah this is bs, why would i pay off the rest of the fone just to turn in the fone and buy a new contract.... if sprint keeps this, they are gonna use alot of business....
You people are ridiculous....
How about you wait until your contract is up then? Then you can upgrade and keep your phone. If u want to upgrade early this is how you have to do it. Otherwise don't do it. Simple. Yet another reason to leave sprint? Lol. That sounds silly. Please explain to me how other providers run their buyout programs.

They do buy back the old phone so it's not a bad deal.
I never let a "contract" sway when I do anything.
I think it's ridiculous when folks say I can't do X because they are under contract.
ok so i guess we're pretending that they didn't just take away the premire upgrades. you should be able to buy out the rest of your contract and not have to turn in the phone too, thats not a good deal, say you pay 165 to end your contract and then have to turn in a 500+ plus phone just do get a new one, might as well just pay the etf and keep the phone, u could actually make more money to get a new phone this way.

Just depends on the phone you have.
This is one specific program.. there are others
The push with buyback of the current phone in this specific program is the increased need for phone recycling, which sprint currently leads in.
The crying over contract changes that happened 6 months ago or more is just silly. Premium customers received one last upgrade to be used by end of year.

I've tried. Neither Sprint or Best Buy is willing to match Amazon.com or Wirefly.com's price. Besides, Wirefly.com is out of stock, BestBuy.com is out of stock, and just a few hours ago, Amazon.com couldn't "guarantee" me that it was in stock.
That's quick.
If they had at least 4g service in my area I would have gotten one, may still if the price is right. Then flash it to another carrier, I buy Sprint phones but never use Sprint/Sprint service - 3g service for 90$/mo is an outrage and nuts for me to agree to pay.

[Q] [POLL] Since many of us have now reached upgrade eligibility, what are you going

I'm asking because a post in the EVO LTE group I'm in on Facebook, a user said he went to a Sprint store and they told him he HAD to trade in his EVO to receive the discount. So I'm curious, are you 1) Trading in for minimal credit? 2) Keeping your EVO for a backup? 3) Selling it yourself or somewhere else? Or 4) Giving it to a friend or family member? I hope to get a number of responses so I may prove to the group member that no one is being forced to trade in. Thanks for your participation.

I already sold mine on eBay for four times the buyback credit amount. However, I still have one that has a bad ESN that I use for a WiFi device. It's S-off (facepalm), running the firewater hboot (2.10.5555) and I flash ROMs like a maniac.

Since I'm switching to Verizon, I'll be keeping it for a wifi device.
I've been eligible for an upgrade since last November. Just been waiting for a worthy upgrade. My girl had the one and ahhhhh it's alright. Nothing really to write home about. My friend has had within the last 3-4 months the one, s4, and the nexus 5. He really likes the nexus 5. Almost persuaded me to get it; but, I really think I'm going to wait for the LG g3 and keep this phone for a back up.

I've been eligible for an upgrade since last month, but I don't think anything out there is worth spending it on right now. Probably going to hold on to the Evo until the LG G3/Nexus 6/Moto X2 launch, then upgrade. And I'll hold onto the Evo at that point as a wifi device and media player for biking/running.
Haven't read much about the nexus 6, just maybe. You never know!

Yah know, I have two lines under the Everything Data 450 plan, with an extra 300 minutes tacked-on from a promotion they had awhile ago. I have the Evo LTE, my gf has the OG Evo. She is happy with her's, I am somewhat happy with mine. We're both due for an upgrade. I never upgraded to the One due to lack of SD card expansion. So, the new One has it. But, with all of the development of this phone going on, I'm almost hesitant to upgrade. Phone runs great on Viper's rom, so idk . . .

If I don't mind the another two years of contract, I would just upgrade to the new One (M8) then sell it on ebay, and keep using EVO LTE. For my daily tasks on my phone, I don't see the need of a faster phone then EVO LTE.
