EVO 4G LTE bootloader not on full locked down from SPRINT like AT&T ONE X - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

YAYYYY!!!!.. ITS Comfirmed on android Central looks like the bootloader can be easily unlocked in minutes And IS NOT CARRIER restricted on SPRINT
Just another reason in my checklist to be exited about the EVO 4G LTE
http://www.androidcentral.com/evo-4g-lte-bootloader-can-be-unlocked-just-fine

I just saw this as well... that is awesome news thanks for sharing.

I heard it was more of a AT&T thing than a HTC thing. This just confirms it. Despite Sprints speeds and lagging of an LTE network, they are still an awesome carrier.

Sweet! The news about this phone just gets better each day, I can't wait to have one in hand.

I think his point was that samsung faithfuls use the argument that their phones are better because they dont have bootloaders that can be locked. And many were saying how the one-x line was going to be locked and we were going to have a hard time getting s-off. But my question is: does easily unlocked bootloader mean easy s-off or will we have a evo-3d situation on our hands with unlocked bootloaders with s-on due to the 1.50 hboot deal. I know its been downgraded now but that problem plagued many for about a year.

Well....the early adopters will most likely be ok..This is why I always buy launch devices.Dont want to risk getting an upgraded HBOOT

very true, i know it will happen im not worried about it.

Haha yeah, oh the great irony. Poor people who don't know any better (like I used to be) think they're getting some nice upgrade, and later find out they're completely out of luck. Glad to be getting mine next Friday!
This is terrific news, thanks OP!

Well that is good to see. While it's still HTCDev Unlock, it's unlocked just the same. Hoping for Revolutionary to get us but the Bootloader and Security flag to S-off rather than official HTC method but i'll take either.

This is great news. I probably will wait for S-OFF, but it's nice to see Sprint doing what is right. I currently have 5 lines, 3 smartphones, 2 dumb phones, and unlimited talk/text/data for $200 after taxes. And I've been able to upgrade my phone almost once per year. I could not be happier with this company.

If only I had at-least-usable 3G in my area. Forget WiMax and nevermind LTE.

Hopefully there will be some means of getting root without going through htcdev. At least for now. Enough to run TB and modify a few system files.
How is an unlocked bootloader same or different from s-off??

Thanks for sharing dude! I love Sprint, I'm confident that once they get they're LTE out they'll be really seeing some profits; they've been consistently making the right moves, trying to please the customers so I'm proud to be with Sprint for these next two years.

The galaxy nexus may not be top spec phone now however it is not inferior I have it on my other line and I actually enjoy the true google experience. I wish HTC would give us that once it is very nice and if the GN would have been on a device like the one x it would have killed all other phones this year. hell even if jellybean was released later this yr on a phone like one x I think it could almost be a iPhone killer. However with Sammy behind the line n their current design this yr the next nexus I feel won't be pretty

This is why i like Sprint!

I know this might not belong here but with talk of many wanting to switch carriers as a typical topic for those on Sprint and such I figured it couldn't hurt.

Wtf?
Apparently, open bootloaders would allow users to make changes to their phones and use software that "could negatively impact how the phone connects with the network" and "the wireless experience for other customers."

Don't really agree with his point at all to be honest. The number that root are not the majority of users, and even more so the number of ppl that get ppl off Craigslist to do it for them is even more minute and can't be any part of the reason bc they represent such a small %...
Just make it to where in order to provide service u must have stock OS and everything on it. With out that u get no service or have to pay for said service at the least.
Hell they could make money off this crap if u think about it. Push ppl to unlock and try new things and then charge them to get it worked on if they ever bring it in. LOL
Set up an unlocked service fee and be done with it.
I get the argument against it with unlimited internet and ppl using it to tether for free but with tiered plans that doesn't matter really does it?
I'll agree though HTC doesit better than anyone looking at it from a business perspective. I understand samsungs are easier to unlock and such but their partions are completely different from what I understand so it'd take a lot to translate that to another device manufacture...

Is the gs3 defitely coming to AT&T?

Ok so I'm sorry to ask this if it's been asked before. Deal is I have the Htc one x but my grace period is almost up. Really like the phone but I miss my Samsung. Thing is when is it supposed to if it does launch for AT&T. If it'll be not intil the late summer early fall then I'll just keep my one x. If it supposed to launch say in June. Then I'll wait for it and return the one x before the 30 days. I'm back to using my iPhone 4 and can't stand it.
AFAIK ATT is GSM so you can just buy one, pop in a sim and you're good to go.
I may be wrong.

Yes, Samsung international phones have typically been compatible with ATT. And as for the AT&T launch, they definitely said june but who knows.
Define defitely first. Then we will be able to answer your questions
Thanks. Guess I'll return the one x and save my upgrade for the gs3. It's odd though if it would be a June release wouldn't AT&T have announced it yet? Don't they usually announce them a few weeks before for preorders and such?
Yes I spelled definitely wrong.
Ya saw that lol. Tried to fix it but couldn't. Going from a 4.7" screen to the iPhones 3.5" it's hard to get back used to typing
If and when att gets the gs3 it will most likely be different in the hardware cause of LTE. It will be the same as the HTC one x has for att. The new s4 chip set.

Yeah not really thinking it'll be anytime soon. I wish I never sold my gs2. I really miss that phone . It's ok. I really like the one x but not as much as I did the gs2. It seems HTC changed how app associations were handled for the US version of the HTC One X to avoid patent issues with apple ( http://www.theverge.com/2012/5/16/3...lte-custom-android-build-apple-patent-linkify). This caused some issues like the inability to view YouTube videos in the app when clicking on a video link in a browser web page (only open in the browser - boo). Samsung is caught up in patent disputes with Apple too so I wouldn't be surprised to see additional software differences from the international version...

AT&T will rape the SGS3 like they do every good phone, they can keep their LTE and their stupid yellow pages and everything else they might think I would want. And to make things even worse of course they will get rid of the physical center button.
Would something like say squaretrade work on this? Also I'm assuming (since I'm not in a hurry) the prices may drop come a month from now right?

Rezound or Inc 4g

I just renewed to a Rezound last week and still have the opportunity to return it within the 14 days. Should I make the switch?
No question. Unless you want/need the Rezounds bigger (and better, yes) display, there is no reason to keep the Rezound. The Inc 4G is better in every other way.
(If you're on unlimited data though, you can't... just throwing that out there)
depends what matters to you...rezound has the better screen, and similar/worse specs in about everything else
rezound already has numerous roms and such and will always have a bigger community, but its being killed off daily by bickering/trolls...a bunch of devs left in the last 2 weeks alone

Well I think the Rez got GSM sms via developers using Sensation XE files and what not. Not sure if that method really could be used with the Incredible 4G as it has an S4 processor with a different implementation of LTE. Does the EVO LTE have GSM, and if have they tried the hack method?

how are we aholes? you came into this forum and said the rezound is a better phone based on "it has gsm"
you didnt like responses to it and got defensive
since you dont seem to be amongst those getting the device, and you dislike those posting here, then dont see the point
So about the original purpose of the thread, which was a fact-based comparison between two phones... and not senseless name-calling of developers...
I'd go ahead and exchange the phone. Even with a smaller developer community than the Rezound, we've already got some quality names on board (nit especially--if you like MIUI, you're guaranteed to have a great maintainer granted that we reach the point where it works on this device), so this phone is definitely future-proof. It's lighter, it's got a better processor, it doesn't seem to be prone to overheating at all, and I vastly prefer the form factor (I checked out the Rezound in the VZW store and was disappointed to find it very blocky). Unless you really need a 4.3" screen or can't wait for a new developer community to grow, the switch just makes sense.

HTC Rezound MAY not be receiving Jellybean....

HTC has confirmed updates to jellybean for HTC phones... on Rodgers, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
This can be taken two ways:
1) No vzw phones are receive it, meaning that the Incredible 4G LTE won't be receiving it too, or
2) They have yet to say about Verizon phones updates.
This is should not be taken as final word since, well, the have actually said. Also, this isn't a very different upgrade, meaning it is similar to Ics and is not as big of an update as gb->ics. Also, this is only our first major update, when phones like the Incredible 2 is receiving ics.

I would base the assumption on the T-Bolt getting ICS. It's supposed to, so I would think if it does, we'd get JB sometime next year (3rd or 4th quaryer if at all).

It is pretty incredible that 4.1 is out, and the Rezound is still officially on 2.3. I would assume, however, that the Rezound will get JB. It's too new not to. This is where HTC is falling apart though--too many models, too many software updates.

problems are more with verizon. HTC has had ICS for the rezound available for awhile now. It seems that verizon is holding it back considering other phones released around that time on other carriers have gotten it.
Once my contract with verizon is done, I'm switching to AT&T
I think we will get it, but what do I know. By the time we do, most of us will probably be fed up and move on. If our devs can get the AOSP stuff fixed up, who cares what HTC/Verizon does at that point though. It's weird how HTC has seemingly fallen. I looked at them as the standard back in my Eris and Inc days. Now I would probably pick most any other manufacturer over them after this phone and the Thunderbolt.

I'm not sure what I will do. Still under contract until next summer and by then, there will be more changes. A lot of family is on verizon and I have 4 lines with unlimited data. I will probably stay put until that ends. AT&T would probably be my first choice with sprint being second. Sprint already has lte live most places I go (San Antonio, Dallas). T-mobile sucks inside buildings and I'm guessing sprint lte being on a higher frequency will as well.

I could have gotten AT&T because I could have gotten any phone on sprint verizon or AT&T free but I chose verizon. Next time, I am going to chose AT&T. Just cuz I'm a kid doesn't mean I have no say
AT&T isn't going to be any kind of magic fix. Their policies are pretty reliably in step with Verizon. You'll see similar changes on AT&T within a year. The problem with HTC updating is everything to do with Verizon being assholes about their bloatware being on the phone. Every button that can be, has to have $ for Verizon attached to it. Hence the big delay with the Nexus and the removal of Google Wallet NFC stuff.
As soon as I'm able, I'm going to be looking at some of the prepaid plans. I should be able to cut my monthly by 20-25% over my "Family" plan now.
i would only switch to tmo or sprint and sprint has ****ty service here so that leave tmo...

I'm 14 and pretty much control our plans because I do know so much about phones, carriers, etc. After I told my dad that we are losing our unlimited he agreed and said that we are canceling our contract and going to t-mobile when we can cause we have good coverage where we live.

I'm thinking of crawling back to tmobile.. My first carrier. I liked magenta. Probably get an unlocked most recent Nexus.

I don't know when I was looking at carriers T-Mobile had some pretty ****ty phones. Guess its gotten a little better. I didn't realize that AT&T had upgraded all/any of their HTC handsets to ICS.
all you suckers can easily leave verizon cuz you're getting ripped off as it is...
unfortunately, i can't. my bill is MAD cheap because i've been with them for 15+ years, so i can't go anywhere else because i'll automatically be paying more.
man my parents have been with them for like 11 years and we pay $180 a month
I think unless you buy google's flagship development device like the nexus, you will be behind at least 1 version of android os no matter what carrier you have. It's a distinguishing selling point for new phones that are out. Personally, I think the rezound kicks every phone's ass that verizon sells aside from the GS3, but verizon wants to keep customers renewing their contracts every 18 months. They get nothing from people if they are keeping their old phones that are being continually updated with new software.
Don't know why carriers are so anxious to sell new phones when they loose money on them. Contracts don't keep customers good service and pricing does.
I pay $104 for just my rezound + insurance

AT&T or Int'l HOX+?

So I MAY get the HOX+ when the funds are available. I'm a broke ass college student and I am really interested in getting the phone to help out more around here. However, I'm deciding on what to get. I'm on T-Mobile USA and they are almost done refarming their network in the Chicago market so I can get HSPA+ "4G" on it. T-Mobile should also be rolling out LTE next year as well.
Int'l model - Logically, much more development since it is in multiple countries
AT&T model - Warranty will be easier to do if anything happens and it'll have LTE.
Steer me to the right direction. Please and Thank you.
I don't know how it goes in the US but in Germany LTE is not widely available yet, and also the costs are much higher than with 3G.
I live in the city and would have LTE available here at home and when out and about, but it would be 27€ more per month for 24 month. So, my usage profile would just not make sense. I travel a lot on the high spped train ICE and 98% of the time there is only 2G available anyways, with 3G only in stations along the track when it stops. 3G is more than sufficient when I am out around town.
So, for me LTE is a waste of money (27€ x24month contract=648€ on top of my regular contract)
If the costs are closer to a regular 3G contract in the US I would go with LTE of course, just to have the latest!

I originally was going to go with the Nexus 4 and just had it delivered but I ended up going with the One X+ (AT&T). I was the first to say LTE wasn't needed, but after a few days with the One X+, I don't know if I could go back. It is just so stupid fast, if it is in your area, I would strongly consider the AT&T version just for that...
Plus if I remember right a few forum members pitched in to get Lloir a AT&T One X+ for deving, so there should be some stuff on the way for it.

Even if I got either HOX+, I will be stuck on 2G until T-Mobile changes part of their network.
LTE isn't out yet for T-Mobile so I can't mention on the price structure for it.
What I am really worrying about it warranty. If it's a manufacturer defect, I can send it to HTC in Texas to get it repaired. I'm pushing towards the AT&T model since it is also a bit cheaper by ~$40
You should get the AT&T one. That would be the best for development in general. Especially for you US boys

I am getting the AT&T HOX+ over the weekend. The only difference between the two is LTE, but you have TMobile. If warranty is a big deal for you, get the AT&T.

I really wanna try LTE. T-Mobile has a great network so I know LTE will be a killer!
I guess I must've missed that lol. Didn't know they were pitching in for the AT&T model.

Int'l models are usually more popular since it is widely available. That's why I hope the dev would be good.

Yeah. I was thinking about it. May just get the AT&T model when prices drop and I get more cash. I'm still far away from my goal in buying it lol

I got shut out of the N4 on Google's release day. But I had an S3 (sold it) and have LTE in my area so I picked up the One X+.
I am SO glad I did. It is one awesome device. Super fast and smoother than the S3. Better screen, camera, etc.
It made me realize that once you have access to LTE it makes no sense to revert back to hspa+. Take advantage of the technology as we are paying for the monthly service.
If I was not located in a AT&T LTE area, I would still pull the trigger because they are launching new markets like crazy. I have had LTE for months and they never announced it was available. They light up markets for testing sometimes months before they make it official and users.
Hope this helps.
The AT&T version seems to be the best bet! LTE is widespread
Thanks everyone!
Now, the issue is the money.

I'm considering the same thing too. It looks T-mobile will deploy the LTE on AWS band same as AT&T, so this phone is more "future-proof" than Nexus 4. How do I get it carrier unlocked if i get one from AT&T store though?
Those of us state side need a DEV that has our device. If someone wants to start a "fund raiser" thread to get you an AT&T HOX+ you can count me in for $50.
Edit: I also have a line that is early upgrade eligible so that would be $100 off the device if that helps. If we can get the funds up I have a way I can get this too you Hasoon2000. Just PM me.

I'd hate to burst your bubble. I'm not really a ROM dev. I know some basics. If you guys want me to learn and have it as a device to practice on, I wouldn't mind. However, do not expect quick results.

Last time I checked. XDA didn't give out recognised dev titles to people who only knew the basics I think your being a tad modest lol

Honestly if you were to start a donate post many would help you get one for your anti brick noob toolkit that has saved many from bricking their devices. You have contributed greatly to the android community and well deserving of the help, I myself even though not a noob have used it in the past for the convenience of it alone.

It would be selfish if I made that type of thread. If you guys believe in it, you guys can do it for me. I'll just wait to save up money or when the price drops.

I agree with this. The person looking for the device should NEVER start the asking. Nothing but trouble. Seen it before.

I completely agree. That's why I said if people would want to make a thread for me, then I'm fine with it. However, I won't ask people to give me money.
