AT&T or Int'l HOX+? - HTC One X+

So I MAY get the HOX+ when the funds are available. I'm a broke ass college student and I am really interested in getting the phone to help out more around here. However, I'm deciding on what to get. I'm on T-Mobile USA and they are almost done refarming their network in the Chicago market so I can get HSPA+ "4G" on it. T-Mobile should also be rolling out LTE next year as well.
Int'l model - Logically, much more development since it is in multiple countries
AT&T model - Warranty will be easier to do if anything happens and it'll have LTE.
Steer me to the right direction. Please and Thank you.

I don't know how it goes in the US but in Germany LTE is not widely available yet, and also the costs are much higher than with 3G.
I live in the city and would have LTE available here at home and when out and about, but it would be 27€ more per month for 24 month. So, my usage profile would just not make sense. I travel a lot on the high spped train ICE and 98% of the time there is only 2G available anyways, with 3G only in stations along the track when it stops. 3G is more than sufficient when I am out around town.
So, for me LTE is a waste of money (27€ x24month contract=648€ on top of my regular contract)
If the costs are closer to a regular 3G contract in the US I would go with LTE of course, just to have the latest!

I originally was going to go with the Nexus 4 and just had it delivered but I ended up going with the One X+ (AT&T). I was the first to say LTE wasn't needed, but after a few days with the One X+, I don't know if I could go back. It is just so stupid fast, if it is in your area, I would strongly consider the AT&T version just for that...
Plus if I remember right a few forum members pitched in to get Lloir a AT&T One X+ for deving, so there should be some stuff on the way for it.

Even if I got either HOX+, I will be stuck on 2G until T-Mobile changes part of their network.
LTE isn't out yet for T-Mobile so I can't mention on the price structure for it.
What I am really worrying about it warranty. If it's a manufacturer defect, I can send it to HTC in Texas to get it repaired. I'm pushing towards the AT&T model since it is also a bit cheaper by ~$40

You should get the AT&T one. That would be the best for development in general. Especially for you US boys

I am getting the AT&T HOX+ over the weekend. The only difference between the two is LTE, but you have TMobile. If warranty is a big deal for you, get the AT&T.

I guess I must've missed that lol. Didn't know they were pitching in for the AT&T model.

Int'l models are usually more popular since it is widely available. That's why I hope the dev would be good.

Yeah. I was thinking about it. May just get the AT&T model when prices drop and I get more cash. I'm still far away from my goal in buying it lol

I got shut out of the N4 on Google's release day. But I had an S3 (sold it) and have LTE in my area so I picked up the One X+.
I am SO glad I did. It is one awesome device. Super fast and smoother than the S3. Better screen, camera, etc.
It made me realize that once you have access to LTE it makes no sense to revert back to hspa+. Take advantage of the technology as we are paying for the monthly service.
If I was not located in a AT&T LTE area, I would still pull the trigger because they are launching new markets like crazy. I have had LTE for months and they never announced it was available. They light up markets for testing sometimes months before they make it official and users.
Hope this helps.

The AT&T version seems to be the best bet! LTE is widespread

Thanks everyone!
Now, the issue is the money.

I'm considering the same thing too. It looks T-mobile will deploy the LTE on AWS band same as AT&T, so this phone is more "future-proof" than Nexus 4. How do I get it carrier unlocked if i get one from AT&T store though?

Those of us state side need a DEV that has our device. If someone wants to start a "fund raiser" thread to get you an AT&T HOX+ you can count me in for $50.
Edit: I also have a line that is early upgrade eligible so that would be $100 off the device if that helps. If we can get the funds up I have a way I can get this too you Hasoon2000. Just PM me.

Honestly if you were to start a donate post many would help you get one for your anti brick noob toolkit that has saved many from bricking their devices. Choosing between this and the Skyrocket

Hello. I have signed a two year contract with AT&T (4gb data yaaay...) and got the HTC Titan since im a WP7 lover, but after a week im not sure i can justify a long term agreement on the platform so im gonna use my 30 day windows to swap it. Since i know ill get bored of iOS its out, so its between the GS2 or the Skyrocket since the Vivid is somewhat laggier and locked bootloader. Im leaning towards this due to the Exynos vs Snapdragon debacle....
Question, Is it worth a contract nowadays or is there a better choice? I wished the Galaxy Nexus arrived before my 30 days was up but its not happening. Please share thoughtz

If you're in a LTE area and don't mind having a higher battery drain due to 4g then go with the Skyrocket. Of the two I think that the GS2 is the better choice but then again I couldn't take advantage of the 4g where I am so the skyrocket would be pointless.
Wow I'm sick of seeing these threads.
Only you can decide what is going to be best for you. If you're in LTE and use the phone for surfing, ect, get the ****rocket. If you play games or watch movies, sgs2 is the way to go.
Do a search and you'll see all the pro/con thread already out there.
Best bet is to go into a store and play with both phones. If you still cant decide after that, then specwise the GS2 is a better phone than the Skyrocket... so let that be the thing to tip the scales.

It is not entirely false. In my area (Northern California), the AT&T corporate stores and authorized dealers no longer carry the original S2, only the Skyrocket. I got mine from a local RadioShack. I guess it is because they are nationwide retailer and have their own stock. The only way to get the S2 from AT&T directly in my area is to buy from their online store.
99 bucks at Costco for an S2 and tax only on 199.99. 117 out the door!

I got my GS2 on monday (I ordered online) I right away noticed a dead pixel. I went into my local ATT store and they didnt have any GS2s in stock. They checked 3 or 4 other stores in the area and none of them had them in stock. The manager told me that they were no longer keeping them in stock because they are now pushing the skyrocket. She told me she thinks they were even asked to send the GS2s back.. So while the phone may not be at end of life ATT has decided to "forget" about the GS2 and push the skyrocket since they are pushing their new LTE network
Just my thoughts/experience on the subject
Sorry for posting another thread on this, I was reading the other topic posted here....
but since the thread was bumped again, let me ask. Does the SGS2 have more dev support than the SR? My main concern is being left behind too soon, and since the GS2 is closest to the OG, i think id get custom and official ICS before SR imo. plus i cant get over the crappy Snapdragon cpu it uses as well since im anal about those things and thats why i basically swore off htc androids because of it.
here is the kicker... i DO live in a LTE area haha, desicions, decisions...

I live in an LTE area (They just launched in NYC) and I chose the GS2 over the skyrocket for a few reasons
1. I had the bigger sprint GS2 and I actually prefer the 4.3 form factor
2. The CPU/GPU is better in the GS2
3. LTE is new and this is their first generation device I'd rather wait until it matures more (in handsets and network) than to jump on it now.
4. There is a lot more dev support for the GS2 and since it's so close to the International version it means we pretty much get whatever they get (just a tad bit after)
Now I did say I preferred the 4.3 form factor and I do, but after using the 4.52 sprint GS2 I kind of got use to it and the 4.3 felt tiny (even though it's really not THAT much smaller) so it took a little adjusting.
I was in the ATT store the other day when I was trying to exchange my GS2 with the dead pixel. I played with a SR and I can say you can definitely see a difference in snappiness when they are side by side. The Gs2 just seems more smooth and fluid. If I didn't have them side by side I prob wouldnt have noticed a difference but you most certainly notice a difference when they are side by side.
In the end for me the reasons to go with the GS2 outnumbered the reasons to go with the SR which the only reason I could think of is that it's LTE

Well, I DID physically go into two local ATT stores this past week, and neither had any s2s nor any accessories for it, in addition to being told by the employee that they were obsolete in their system. Yes, you can get them online through att, but not at the stores around here. Lte has not been launched in my market yet (SF bay area) but there are pockets of cells in testing, so it will be coming at some point.

Return my Note if i already "exchanged" once?

Before anyone RIPS me read and relate to me lol.
I have a question. I am still in my 30 day return window for my Note but i already exchanged once my white for a black. "GF talked me into the white".
I paid the outright price of $650, $688 with tax, wanted to save my upgrade for future devices. I was going to get the international model but the ATT guys or drones whatever you wanna call them. Were telling me that my area "PA" was getting LTE in June. The lines were already almost in blah blah blah. So i figured what the hey id like to try LTE out so i went with the ATT version instead of getting the international Exynos processor.
But with the early summer LTE area release yesterday, PA was not on the list . So basically its pointless at the moment for me to have the LTE version when i could have gotten the international for basically cheaper on Amazon being no tax. I would have no problem keeping the ATT version if i paid $300. But for what i paid it makes absolute sense to get the international, No? I have no problem with HSPA+ speeds and am only on a 3GB Data plan.
Thanks guys.
I figured id ask you guys being asking anybody anything at ATT is like pulling teeth. Or if you guys seen any upsides on keeping my ATT Note instead of getting the international. For the most part i love it aside from some lag here and there.
I would suggest going with the international since it has a wider variety of dev support and since you dont have LTE in your area its pointless having to spend $688 for a phone you cant use to its fullest IMO.
To answer your question, yes, if you are in your 30 days you can return for any reason. It doesn't matter that you exchanged for color.
Where in Pa are you. I live in York (near Harrisburg) and I am looking for a Note. PM me.
Plus you'll get ICS much sooner if that's important to you.

no its not that, its some shenenigans within AT&T's system, an LTE device can't access the internet unless you have their LTE data plan, even the HSPA+ network, I'm guessing it doesn't work the other way around as well, I know from experience how back asswards AT&T's system can be when setting up a phone

I am going to miss this forum you guys are a great bunch, not just phone stuff but personality wise. I can't believe it was cheaper for me to buy the one x , and pay my cancellation fee to T-Mobile, and... and get a better and cheaper plan.
T-Mobile has been really going down hill, with customer service ( YEAH I KNOW I heard ma bell is one of the worst) and I just don't understand why T-Mobile treats new customers better than am OG, like me. To the T-Mobile rep I pm'd here thanks for replying and being cool.
Well.... one x forums here I come. Lol.
Phone should ne in my hands tues. Or wed. Im excited.

Im curious what you asked for from them. I been a customer for 5 years and they just gave me a 250 credit on my bill for the Amaze and this months bill. I've never had a problem with the customer service. Im curious how your paying less with ATT, which I am assuming you jumped to because of the one X
Have fun paying more for service.

Im actually going to be saving a few dollars!
The only thing im losing is my grandfathered unlimited data, .... but I have never exceed 3 gb ever so ... its actually a decent plan.
And I like the rollover minutes thing.
And i do a lot of camping and T-Mobile has ALWAYS been a fail for me. But my friends who not only have iphonies(only saying cuz I thought iphonies had crappy reception) and with AT&T ... almost always have signals.
We will see. T-Mobile is funny..
.when I called and told them to cancel, my acct, and told them I was offered the one s , but said I hate penile displays and the storage was to small
You know what the rep said???
Well, sir, ill tell you what, I can offer the one s practically free for you..
I almost went into rage mode...lmao.
I think what's really happening is this is the age of the downward spiral of customer service. Its not just T-Mobile/AT&T. Its everywhere.

Sorry to hear that. T-Mobile totally stuck their neck out to me last year. I went to Calgary and didn't turn off my data roaming. I even got a text as soon as I hit the border, telling me full well that the data rates are HIGH. I tried my best and minimized it's use. Well, I got home to a $850 bill. After talking to a few people, getting on my knees and begging forgiveness, they took 100% of the charges off.
I thought that was INCREDIBLE customer service. Who else would forgive $850 worth of data roaming charges???????

The one x is such a small upgrade from the amaze what's the point in switching? I think with the amaze having a leak for ics there really seems to be no point in getting another device for very close specs. Just my two cents only device on the horizon worth waiting for would be the galaxy s3

Can you go into a little more detail? I'm not sure what you raged about.
They offered you a phone?
I'm not sure why you experience was so bad.
We've had t-mo for something like 7 years.
I called the loyalty department and asked what they could do for me, and they gave me a $250 credit to cover the cost of the amaze, and dropped our plan price $80/mo

+1 i love tmobile.. great plans, great customer support (even though im on prepaid i get good support). they are the best gsm you can get in the US imo. id rather have verizon but i dont have the money, and they dont really have that great of phones.
Yeah today I called in for something on my account and when the rep said if there was anything I was unhappy about I just said I sometimes get one bar to none of service at home which in reality I get 1-2 bars. They quickly transferred me to the signal booster program and even gave me 250 credit. So now I should be getting full bars within the next couple days and not make a payment for at least two months! Also isn't the warranty program through t-mobile cheaper in replacing phones, and the add on features as well.
After the att break up t-mobile is actually going back up in the competition and they are starting by improving customer service. It's sad you left right at the turning point specially for a phone that is not that much better than the amaze. I wish you luck.

[Q] AT&T or T-Mobile for the One?

Which carrier should I choose if I want to get the most out of the One, using two lines, taking into question data limits and speeds, and monthly billing of course. My fiance wants to get phones for the two of us and her contract will be up in March with AT&T, should she stay on AT&T and add my onto a shared plan or should we just take our business to T-Mobile?
Ask people you know in your area if they have tmobile and how is it.
Depends if your having any issues with ATT. If not then stay.
Because tmobile customer support <

I'm in Buffalo, New York, I just moved here so I don't know too many people yet, my biggest eyebrow raiser is that T-Mobile has unlimited data for $160~ and AT&T only has a shared plan with 4GB for $140~. I'm just wondering about the speeds between the two, even then, it can't be thaaat bad can it?cI'm really looking into T-Mobile, but if the service is ****...no dice.

If you can afford it, stay with att if your getting good signal and speeds.
If you want you can do tmobile prepaid for 30 bucks a month as another option, as a trial
100 minutes, texts unlimited i think, and 5 gb of data for 30 bucks.

It seems like AT&T has way better 4G LTE coverage than T-Mobile in the area, so I think we'll just share 4GB and hope for the best, if anything we can upgrade if we reallly need to, and we'll be on Wi-Fi a lot of the time I'm sure anyways, thanks for the replies

LOL, that's a little too much for our taste, she pays $75~ on AT&T for her non-Smartphone so she wants it to be about the same if not less for each line when we upgrade.
I for one can vouch that AT&T has superior service compared to T-Mobile. T-Mobile has bad coverage even with 3G. My girlfriend uses T-Mobile and she doesn't get LTE anywhere around here, and a unreasonable (about 10%, and that's in a suburban area, not country) amount of the time she can't send texts because of bad reception. Lots of dropped calls as well from her compared to extremely few compared to my friends who have AT&T.
T mobile will have its 4g lte network rolled out by the end of the year... their pre paid plans are the best...can't beat $70 a month unlimited everything!!!

I tried T-Mobile with my N4. Their network is pretty good if you spend almost all of your time in a decent sized urban area. But if you travel on the road at all or you live in an AT&T LTE coverage area, it isn't even remotely close in coverage - AT&T is worth the extra money. Once you go outside a certain distance from a city, it's as if T-Mobile never existed. They're cheap for a reason!
oh yeah dont forget the ATT version is getting blocked from some of the extra HTC features http://htcsource.com/2013/02/htc-ge...source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter#prettyPhoto

That blows. Might be worth getting the unlocked version and forgoing LTE................. :-\
also from what i heard HTC is giving away free 2 year 25GB dropbox accounts with the HTC ONE but AT&T has opted out once again so if you get the ATT version you wont get that feature either.....https://www.dropbox.com/help/249/en

You can't ask people who are in different parts of the world which carrier to pick.. that all depends on; Where you live, your budget, and how much of data/talk you use.
AT&T works great in some places where T-Mobile don't. If you get great coverage with ATT far as data and talk then i suggest staying with ATT
T-Mobile won't have LTE till later this year, and when they do it will be in a small amount of cities.. most likely major cities first.. LTE > HSPA+
AT&T has the 2nd largest LTE coverage and still improving it.
I suggest sticking with AT&T if you get great coverage and haven't had any problems. If its not broken don't fix it.
If you want a budget choice you can always get Straight Talk. you'll have the choice between which network you want to use under them
Lol where all you live that's you're saying T-Mobile has no coverage? I live in Los Angeles and I get reception everywhere I go. I even get reception high up in the mountains at big bear. Only place I don't get great reception is when I'm at my job, which is a warehouse with like 2 feet of concrete walls and steel everywhere. I get better reception than anyone on att that I know. Don't get me started with sprint. My coworker has the evo lte and he never sees lte service.

When T-Mobile suppose to drop this beast
Hey AT&T and T-Mobile Americans... do you guys know if it might be possible to change the LTE frequencies of the One?
I'm going to get the European version, but I might spend 1-2 semesters studying in the US at some point in the future, where I will probably still have the One.
So it would be pretty sweet if I could flash another radio (or even do something easier) and use LTE in America as well.

Maybe the t-mobile one will have LTE on band 4 and 17, thier galaxy s3 LTE just passed through FFC and it has both band 4 and band 17... And if you root and flash custom rom wouldnt that take away the restrictions?

Expected to fall between the weeks of the 15th and the 22nd. Assuming from HTC terms and conditions regarding their 100 cash back that I read from their site, to be able to qualify for the cash back, the device must be purchased before the 31st of march.
But this is just my assumptions. And I hope I'm right because I can't wait any longer!

[Q] Moving From Sprint, Some Questions About Unlocked 32GB One

Hey guys,
I've been searching around the forums for a couple hours now and while there are some vague and half answers to my questions I really just wanted to get a definite yes or no on a few things.
I'm moving from an HTC One on Sprint because of Sprint's terrible data speeds. I'm definitely getting the HTC One on T-mobile, but I'm deciding between T-mobile's own HTC One or the unlocked 32GB version directly from HTC because I don't want even what little bloat the T-mobile version comes with, I want updates directly from HTC, and I travel to Europe at least once a year so I want to be able to take my phone with me and I know that T-mobile can be wishy washy about unlocking this phone before 40 days even if you've bought it outright. I know I can buy a code from eBay, but why pay another cent or take another step?
I'm in a refarmed LTE area so the lack of the 1700Mhz band shouldn't be a problem, right?
So my question is, given my situation (need for an unlocked phone, living in a refarmed/LTE area) will I really see any drawbacks using this phone in my day to day over getting the T-mobile version, flashing the ROM from the Unlocked/Dev version and paying to have it unlocked?
Thanks for your help!
I just got my HTC One a week ago, so I might not be the best person to answer you, but somethings better than nothing right? lol
Anyway. For what its worth, I have the T-mo HTC One and the bloat really isnt that bad. Sure, you cant uninstall it, but the Sense 5.0 launcher lets you hide apps from the drawer and the T-mo apps dont stay on as running services if you turn them off.
Besides the Apps, theres no hint of this HTC One being on T-Mobile.
And I think you might miss out on WiFi Calling with T-mo if you get the Dev version of the HTC One. I'm definitely not sure about this, but its the only downside I can see besides the different bands, which someone else can comment on.

I have had an unlocked 32gb on Tmobile since mid April and I'm loving it, if you're in a refarmed area dont worry, where I live (SoCal) it's entirely refarmed and Ive been getting good HSPA+ the whole time, and as of a few days ago LTE as well. I would just go for the unlocked, especially since you'll be traveling.

Wifi calling is a software thing not hardware, you can flash parts of a tmobile rom to get it if you really want it on an unlocked/dev edition

I live in the Rancho/Fontana area, but I go to CPP so I regularly commute between the LA and San Bernardino areas, I'd say a good 85% or so of the areas I go to are refarmed, and of those about 40% of them already have LTE; I gotta give props to Tmobile, I've enjoyed their service so far and for only 30 a month it's been great.

I have the developer edtion and switched from Sprint to T-Mobile. Best thing I did speeds are 10 x faster. I'm in a reframed area. If you're in a reframed area definitely go for it.

I would get the T-Mobile version. There are only a few TMO apps, and having the AWS available is a good thing, especially when traveling. TMO will unlock your phone for you, so unless you are leaving for Europe within 40 days, it should not be a problem. Actually, I've read posts from folks who got their unlock code immediately, provided they paid for the entire phone.
