[Q] thinking of upgrading, want to keep sero premium 500 plan - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hi all,
I've got the evo 4g. Thinking about upgrading to the evo lte. But when I go to sprint, it says i need to pick a new plan. I REALLY don't want to pick a new plan since i'd be paying an extra $30/mo for less I currently have the sero premium 500 plan. Base cost is $40/mo but the plan they want me to sign up for is $70/mo and i would get 50 minutes less a month.
Thats not a very enticing deal - get $150 credit for the phone, but agree to a 2 year term and pay an extra $720 over the 2 years for less talk time.
anyone know if there's a way to upgrade phones but keep the same plan? I like sprint but that sort of deal is basically sprint scream 'fk you, we dont want you as a customer'

That Sprint rep definetely didnt know what he was doing. It is 100% possible to upgrade your phone and stay on your Sero-P plan. Its best to call the offical Sero number and order your phone from them. Its clear only a few people in actual sprint stores know how to handle Sero-P plans. I will have to look up the official sero sprint number.
In the mean time, maybe you can call another sprint store and see if they know how to handle sero premium accounts

You need to call the sero accounts #

They bumped me from the old sero 500 plan to sero premium, just so I could get the lte. Then they forwarded me to telesales, who were even better, the guy added my wife with the same plan as me. When I called accounts later for some info about porting her number, the lady was all pissed off that they did something they weren't supposed to.
My experience has been that I called a few times, and every time I got a woman with a southern drawl, they wouldn't help me at all and got rather angry about the fact I was still on sero. Everytime I got a guy, they were helpful. Considering you're already on sero premium, you might be able to go straight through telesales for the phone. The only downside of ordering through telesales, is that it's $199 (cheaper elsewhere)- but you have assurances from them that your plan won't get screwed up, so it's worth the extra cost to me.

I didn't call anyone, this was just using their website. But I'll try calling and see what they say.
You got lucky - i had added a 2nd line to my account last year and they wouldn't let me put it on sero - had to get the regular plan.
I'm just going to wait a little while until the phone is out just to see what the reviews are from users and then i'll decide if i should upgrade or not.

I have a similar question.
My buddy is going to let me use a upgrade for this phone and I'm on a indirect-employee plan. Someone mentioned that one of his phones could possibly not be able to be used for 6 months after I upgrade and swap.
I called sprint they said that is not true and I can ESN swap from his account to mine as long as that line has a phone attacthed to it, which it does.

I believe we will be moved to the $50 SERO plan from the $30 if you began there.
+$10 for the "smartphone" premium, and another +$10 for the premium data fee.

This is True- and if you already have the sero premium plan, you will still have to call because the LTE addon is different from the current Data addon on the plan. But from what I've read over on other forums you can keep your Sero plan.

Wait - I have to pay another $10 extra on top of the $10 extra i already pay? I looked at the plans as though i were signing up as a new customer and i just see the single $10 additional fee.

The base SERO plan is $30
Add 10 for premium devices
Add 10 for premium data
You're gonna have to pay $50 a month for this phone - same as the iPhone and all 4g phones available with SERO.
New customer?
You need to already have SERO to have the option to use this device for $50.
I think new customers pay $80 a month for the unlimited plan with this device

I'm on sero premium 500. It's $40 plus $10 for premium data (still trying to figure out what the hell is premium about the data i use). So i pay $50. So i guess i'll keep paying what I have now, assuming i can find someone at sprint willing to let me upgrade and keep my plan.

just called in and ordered the evo lte. Didn't have to do anything to keep my plan - but I guess we'll see once I actually get the phone. I never trust things when they go that easy

Same boat, and I haven't had any problems upgrading. I've had the 4G LTE for about close to a month now.
Once you paid the extra 10 for the 4G premium data for the Evo 4G, nothing needs to change to get the LTE data. They change the name, but the details remain the same.

I'll believe it when it see it - i'm always skeptical when things just seem to work without any hassle

I just got the phone earlier today and tried activating it - wants me to pick a new plan before I can activate. Unfortunately sprint doesn't have 24 hour customer care, so hopefully I'll just call them tomorrow to get the phone activated, cuz I'm definitely not going to switch plans.

fyi - I had to call the employee sales dept, not the normal tele-sales dept to activate the phone and keep this plan.

Sprint Employee Referral Offer or something like that. I use to have it a few years back when I had my Touch Pro. It's pretty much just a discounted plan. Kind of hard to keep when you get newer phones because they try to make you switch plans.

The sero plans seem ok, but if you really wanna save some money you gotta get on the wireless advantage club. I pay $40 a month for 500 mins, unlimited data 3g/4g, unlimited texts, tv, gps, etc etc. The base is $20 + $10 for "iconic devices" (basically any decent phone) + $10 for any phone with 4g. But you have to know an actually employee willing to put you on their plan

How is 500mins for $40 a good deal? Do they still give you mobile 2 mobile free? If not, how can you use that plan???

The lowest non sero plan with unlimited data is $80. If you are like most people and only use small minutes every month, you save $40 a month and the taxes are cheaper.
Keep in mind SERO is dead, and the new plans are EPRP and are ~$20 more than SERO and the only way to get an actual SERO plan is from someone who has one adding you a line, then transferring it to it's own contract, people have been doing this, and charging a premium amount of $150-$200 since 2008.

My girlfriend and I are on a plan where we share 1500 minutes. With 12 days left in the billing cycle, we've racked up a whopping 186 minutes between us. If I could have a shared plan with 300 minutes on it for much less, I'd love that -- email, instant messaging, and texts have pretty much eaten into actual phone calls for me. Neither of us has a land line, btw.

Exactly. I have the advantage 500 min plan and I use MAYBE 150 minutes a month outside of mobile to mobile and free nights and weekends. Not to mention we get yearly upgrades.
Advantage Club is awesome. Being an employee was more awesome though.
I have 2 epics on the $129 plan, less 20% though. That's 1500 minutes w/ free cell calls and nights/weekends, and unlimited everything else as well, which makes it $51.x / per line.

Want to get an SG2 but...

Ok, so I want the SG2, but keeping my current contract with AT&T proves to be difficult. If I upgrade with AT&T the SG2 is $199. If I upgrade through walmart letstalk.com $159, amazon wireless $149, deals2buy.com the SG2 is$99.
Talk about some great deal right? Only problem I have is that my contract would change. As many of you may or may not know, AT&T in their infinite wisdom removed their text tiering plan. It used to be something like $5 for 200 text a month, $15 for 1000 and $20 for unlimited. Because I don't text much, I went with the $5 for 200 text. I also opted into the $30 for unlimited data. I have been grandfathered into these options, but if I get the phone from an outside agency I would have to switch to AT&T's "awesome" $25 for 2gb data plan and be left almost without a text option unless I pay $20 for unlimited which is the only plan they have now. When I say I don't text much, I mean I'm barely breaking 80 a month and that's me really trying.
Now I don't use that much data mostly because of my current location. According to my data usage chart, I'm only using about 500mb a month. While the $25 for 2gb might seem like a good idea, I'd like to know that when I relocate within the next 6 months, that I won't have to worry about going over in data usage. When I'm in an area that has a good 3G connection, I watch a lot of videos when I have downtime and you can shoot past 2gb in no time.
I'm sure a lot of you are saying drop AT&T and what not, but the truth be told, I've never had any problems with them over the last 4 years. I think their rates are reasonable and I love the roll over option. So me leaving them is not an option anytime soon at least not until they royale screw me.
Are you 100% sure reseller's require you to change you data plan if you upgrade through them? If its true, then I would spend the extra money and go to an official AT&T store and buy one. I wouldn't sacrifice my unlimited data for anything.
I agree, do anything you can to keep that Unlimited Data plan.
Man the money you save up front would probably be negated over the course of the contract. If you dont have the money now just wait a spell, the price will come down of course after a while.
You should really look into your calling habits though. If you not using over 2gigs ever then you could save money there. Also with unlimited texts comes the free cell to cell deal. Thats any carriers cell not just att, which makes a huge difference. Everyone's situation is a bit different. att is actually pretty good about working with you on stuff like this. I have had them eat HUGE bills. I hate att for my own reasons, but this is one area where I have to concede their worth. Good luck to you. The phone really is bad ass, best phone I have had to date and I have had my fair share.
You are not forced to change data plan I upgraded to infuse 4g and kept data. I probably gnna get gs2 in a week or so. I do have the unlimited data btw.

Yes they do. Once you add the phone to your cart, you have to pick a calling and data plan. While AT&Ts calling plans haven't changed, their data and texting plans have and the resellers websites options have changed to reflect that.

I don't talk on my cell that often that why I like the rollover minutes thing. As for going over 2gb, it can happen because I travel a lot and when I'm not at my remote location, I go over 2gb easily. I don't think saving $5 is feasible just because I'm not consistently going over 2gb every month. Right now I pay $30 for unlimited. If I do go with the 2gb plan, I'll be charged $10 for each gig I go over. With unlimited, I'm covered no matter what the hell happens.

This is true if you do the upgrade through AT&T and not a reseller. AT&T isn't willing to cut me a deal on the phone simply because they don't have to. While I do understand this and I have the money to get the new phone at the price they are offering, it's always good to save a few bucks everynow and again.

While that might be true, I'm not willing to take that chance. Like I said earlier, you are forced to make a choice for a data plan. If making that choice prevents me from switching back to having unlimited, that would be bad. Saving the money on the phone wont' be worth it in the end.
I just did this on Monday. I was on the old $30 unlimited data and the $5 for 200 text plan.
I got mine at Walmart. The rep had to call AT&T to get it activated. They are able to keep the $30 unlimited data but will require you to upgrade your text plan to get it activated.
However, if you immediately call AT&T (611) and talk to a rep, you CAN get your old $5 for 200 text plan back. It will require the rep to ask their supervisor, but they will do it for you.
Went from old AT&T plan from my iPhone 3GS and still have the unlimited and 200 text messages.
Well it sounds like you've got it all figured out then.with all due respect, I don't understand why you even created this thread when you just countered helpful comments and seemed to have answered your own questions.

I just did if you read my post above...
I went to AT&T store and and them if they can give me $50 credit for getting the phone and i must keep my current features unchanged. The sales rep agreed and i walked out the store within 20 min with a phone. i paid $200 plus tax but he credited my account $50 right there.
When I bought my Infuse and kept my $5/200 texting plan and unlimited data - the GSII was bought outright off-contractr so didn't affect my account at all.
AT&T corporate stores are the way to go! They might not have the extreme hardware deals, but their representatives are FAR more competent and honest in my opinion.
I just did ths last night
I just upgraded to the S2 last night at an Att corporate store. The person who was ringinh me up told me the THE SAME THING. I need to change my data plan $30 unlimited and my $5 text plan. I have the same exact services as you do. She kept trying to put it through the system and it kept giving her errors saying that she could give me the data plan but not the text plan. In the end she was able to get it done and I kept everything that i had.
All i can tell you is to tell the rep to try every configuration to see if it goes through. If i remember right she ended up finding the text plan that would work but it was near to the bottom of her list.
It is 100% possible to keep because I was in the same exact situation.
I as well. : /

Complete bull****.
I upgraded @ Best Buy, unlimited data remains.
I don't really text at all so I have no texting plan. I refuse to pay extra for something that costs the network infinitely less the a phone call would have.
You will find that many, if not all representatives will feed you that "Need to Upgrade your plan" line of bull.
It is their JOB! The more people they can trick and fool OFF of their unlimited plans, the more money they can make.
DO NOT EVER BELIEVE THEM!!!
My Best Buy store had some cash register issues when I picked up my SGSII. We had to complete the upgrade over the phone, in store. Can't count the number of times the AT&T guys said I had NO existing Data-Plan. I called Foul, as I've been on the Corporate data plan (for office email) from the beginning.
Now if you try to go the order online / nonhuman route, all bets are off.
I upgraded at Walmart IN STORE and had NO ISSUES keeping my unlimited grandfathered in everything plan. I too have the $30 data and $5 unlimited text plan. I did the SAME THING last year with my captivate but I HAD TO do it in store. Walmarts online LETSTALK would not allow me to keep my current grandfathered in plan and they cancelled my order. So I walked into the Walmart store and got it and kept my grandfathered plan. Just before upgrading to the att SGS2 I called and CONFIRMED that I can and will keep my unlimited plan a.d was assured by the retention department that I would. I called after I left the store with SGS2 in hand and again called att to CONFIRM that my plan is still listed as the Personal unlimited plan (grandfathered plan). The att retention department told me that IF the store gave me ANY ISSUES to just get the phone and call them once it was mine. So stick to your guns in it and don't just give it away.

I see my best bet would be to walk into Walmart and get that deal on the phone since I can't be sure things will work out with the other online resellers. It seems that buy making your voices heard it was possible to keep your plans. I think what I'm going to do first is call AT&T up and ask the question "If I upgrade my phone through a reseller, will you allow me to keep my current plan" and see what there response is. After that I'll argue with them about how I've been a customer for some years and because I'm renewing my contract, that's the least they could do for me. I'll be sure to get the sales reps name and ID number if they have one. Hell, I might even use my phone and let them know that I'm recording this call for quality assurance. That way I'll have some hard evidence that I was promised that I could keep my plan by the sales rep. I haven't had a reason to use my in call voice recorder but this seems like the perfect time.
Thanks for your input all, I'll let you know how things go and what deal I ended up getting.

"SERO" in 2012 - still a great deal

So decided to go ahead with an order for the EVO LTE anyway, despite no LTE towers yet live. I'm in Atlanta so may get an LTE signal first, but not holding my breath.
This would be my personal device (I have a corporate-supplied Droid 4 - decent phone/amazing VZW LTE, but saddled with a horrible camera), so I was looking for the lowest ongoing monthly expense I could find. Considered a T-Mob value plan for $50, but their 4G coverage in my neighborhood (3 miles due east of downtown) is abysmal, plus they throttle you after 2GB of any data consumption (EDGE included) and want you to pay $400 and up for the smartphone - all while committing to a 2 year deal. Not much of a bargain.
Enter Sprint SERO. Wow. Called telesales, and so help me it took one hour to get the order (their telesales team is in Estonia or something - the Eastern Eurpoean accents were killing me after a while). But I got the $40+$10 500 min. unlimited everything else plan. Had to pay $200 for the phone, but no activation fee (not a credit - it's never charged).
Used a widely available email address and employee ID#, Russ someone. You can find it on Google.
This is probably old news to many on this board, but to this guy it was so novel I decided to post it!
Happy hunting. After an hour with the Sprint telesales team, I can now say - EVO LTE and SERO - I has it!
Your EPRP plan is not the old-school SERO. Everything Plus Messaging doesn't have the unlimited data of the $40+$10 SERO Premium plan
Sounds like he described the $40 + $10 SERO Premium plan to me. No other plan including EPRP would be described as costing $40 +$10.
People try to act like it is so impossible to get these SERO Premium plans as a new costomer. I have gotten two SERO premium plans within the past year. Once when I convinced my girlfriend to switch from verizon to sprint, and other time I was able to talk sprint in to giving me back my original sero plan after I had been on an Everything data 40 plan for 2 years.

All I did was sign up for a brand new EPRP plan online using the Russ. email address. The very next day I called the sero support number and said " I would like to change my plan to the Sero Premium plan. The first rep was about to do it then said it wasn't offered. I said ok and hung up. Less than 2 minutes later I called the same number and said the exact same thing and the rep switch me over to the sero plan in less then 3 minutes.
I gave up my old school sero (was actually F&F 500) $30 a month with sprint2sprint, first incoming min free, pick 3, pick 2, sprint ld promo and n/w at 6 with a 25% discount. My bill was $22.50 a month with a TP2. Gave that up (it was hard) for the evo ED 450 with 25% discount. Had that for a while, then Sero Premium came out. I did get it back with all the same perks except MRC discount and n/w at 6 had to go. Still got everything else, great deal been with Sprint for years. It's not easy to get back or get but yes it can be done. People that say it can't are just trollin and upset that they failed. It was a while ago I got it back, don't remember exactly how I did it but I know it took a lot of effort and multiple attempts. You gotta get lucky with Sprint. So yes it's possible to get SERO but it's also possible to win the lottery. Sometimes people get lucky sometimes you don't that is just how it is. As far as it being easy, it's certainly not easy unless you get lucky. Don't loose sleep over not getting it cause it's tough.

I'm definitely not losing sleep over it since I've had my SERO plan since 2006 (oh the joys of porting my number out of Sprint to an AT&T prepaid phone and then back the next day to avoid changing it) and SERO-P since last year. I was even able to reference my old non-SERO account that I had had since 1999 and make it count for Premier Gold status for my SERO account. Too bad yearly upgrades are gone now.
I was just curious because I've heard about a lot of people being unable to get SERO back after going on EPRP. So I'm assuming your 20% employee discount survived all the recent discount reviews?

No monthly discounts anymore, they let me keep it with ED 450 plan, but it was immediately removed on SeroP. I actually had F&F 500 (same as sero) back in the day which made it easier for discounts to stick. Was a hard plan to give up I remember there being threads how much more the evo was going to cost in the long run vs old sero but in my opinion for how awesome the evo was it was well worth it. I couldn't go back and Sero P is still a great deal.

I wouldnt so much call it all luck. I knew what I wanted and did/said what I thought was needed for sprint to agree. I got my original sero plan placed back on my account all through email conversations. At first they told me they were not putting people on the Old SERO plan at this time. I replied to that email stating why I felt I should get it, based on the fact that I used to have it and they gave it to me.
I actually just upgraded from my $30 sero plan to the $50 one for the evo 4g lte. quite the upgrade from the touch pro 2.
Embarrassingly enough, I stuck with the original HTC Touch from 2006 to 2011. Once SERO P was introduced, I waited until Evo 3D came out, and then upgraded both the plan and the phone. Glad I'm on June upgrade cycle, should be able to snag an LTEvo this Friday.
Are you able to sign up for the EPRP on an existing line, or can you only do it when adding new lines?

New line only, but the old trick of porting your number out and then back in might still work.
Hmm, my phone is going to be a new line, but I'm getting it at Best Buy. Anyone know if they're able to set up an EPRP if I give them the email and employee code?
Sprint stores/call center only I think
This deal won't fly in 3rd party resellers, I think.

You're correct. This won't work. In fact, I'm on SERO P and I can't even get a phone in a corporate store. You should've seen the mess I was in when I pre-ordered my EVO 3D at a corporate store. I was there the morning it was released. As soon as they opened the doors, I got in there and started to get the phone registered, and they're like, "Uh, we can't activate your phone. You'll need to do it through telesales."
I called SERO CS and got a guy that basically took me off my SERO account so they could activate my phone in the store, then put me back on the SERO account after it was activated.
If ANYONE ever tells you that you CAN'T get a SERO P plan right now, they're lying. They've done it, and still can do it. You just have to get the right person. Your first stop should be contacting the SERO CS department. I don't have the number, only because when I do *2 on my phone, it goes right to them because my number is attached to an "employee account."

A corporate store SHOULD be able to do it if they are walked through it by Employee Care / Telesales. I guess I'll test out this theory on Friday. I bought an Evo 3D on release day last year, so my upgrade isn't available until June 1. An Employee Care supervisors wasn't willing to move it up, but suggested I go to a corporate store and invoke some arcane rule about being able to get the upgrade 2 weeks early if my current phone has "technical issues", which apparently don't even have to be very specific.

Yeah, I called them today, too. They told me the same thing, but told me I could try and call on Friday because the Supervisors should be able to do it if I'm only 2 weeks out. So I can wait. I think I want to go to the store and see it before I actually buy it.
I got my EVO 3D on launch day, so I'm in the same boat.

[Q] Why did my Sprint bill drop to $40/mo from EVO 4G LTE upgrade? "SERO Premium 500"

[Q] Why did my Sprint bill drop to $40/mo from EVO 4G LTE upgrade? "SERO Premium 500"
A long time ago I had a SERO (Sprint Employee Referral Option) but Sprint killed SERO when 4G WiMAX phones were released so you had to upgrade to a Simply Everything Plus plan which was more expensive.
So I was paying $59 for an "Simply Everything Plus 500" plan, which I thought was a great deal, but today I went and bought the new EVO 4G LTE and to my surprise the rep said my bill was being reduced to $40 a month for the same features of that plan!
I think this is insane that I get a better phone with unlimited LTE and it costs only $40 a month now, which is $20 cheaper a month than my old WiMAX phone bill.
Anyone know why this happened? I don't know why Sprint wouldn't want more money from me, not that I am complaining!

you got extremely lucky there bud. I was in your position too and still ahve the everything plus plan b/c of the whole SERO thing when the evo4g came out....
The SERO Premium plans came out in the fall after the 4G was released as a response to the complaints about the plan changes and such with the $10 fee and all...so those that waited got to join those.
This is the first I've herd of someone being able to move from the everything plus to the SERO Premium plan though....musta been a real real real nice rep there....that or one that is completely slow and doesn't know anything. lol
Jealous beyond jealous, that is awesome.

So I take it this isn't the norm for "Simply Everything Plus 500" users?
The Sprint rep acted like the computer system was making him set the account up this way to activate the new EVO
There is actually a thread on slickdeals.net about the SERO plans, and one of the few things that still works (but only occasionally) to get a new SERO plan is to sign up for a new Everything Plus plan than get it converted to SERO Premium 500.

Really? Can you direct me to the link? I'm searching over there, but I can't seem to find the post that specifically talks about what you just mentioned.
I just signed up on the Everything Plus plan and would love to try and get this plan. THanks for any help you can offer!
edit: Nevermind, after lots of reading and digging, I've pieced together what I'm going to do. Thanks for the heads up!

SERO-P works just fine with the new EVO. The rep just has to take the WiMAX code off and put in the LTE one. My store had to call a help center to get the new code. It will stay at the 40+10 plan too.

Ok, nice. I just ordered my Evo Lte 10 min ago. Got a bit of run around from dialing *2. They said i had to upgrade to an "everything plus" plan because they no long had Sero plans. Fould a number on the slick deals link. Called 888 882 4030 and ordered a LTE EVO as well as change my plan over. Went from Sero 500 /$30 a month to Sero premium 500 $40 + $10 data charge. Thanks again

I've had nothing but good experiences with Sprint and now they reduced my monthly bill like $20 without me asking when I get a new phone so I am going to stick with them for sure
Same plan I got, yea you got super lucky. Took me almost a year to get my Sero Plan back from Simply Everything. I did get it back though, people that say it can't be done are just trolling it can be done it's just very hard. I don't even remember how I did it but it took many many attempts as with Sprint getting something you want just takes the right rep.
My old plan on my TP2 was was $30 a month fair & flex (sero variant) with 25% MRC plus free pcs2pcs (those plans didn't have any mobile anytime)
I attached a screen shot, I also got pick 5 added to my account someone after this bill date which I still have today. Pick 5 was a little more important then cause pcs2pcs was Sprint only not any network. It was hard to give up even with TEP it was like $32 a month after taxes. I'm still pretty happy with SeroP it's a more than fair price. I got to keep all my free perks like First Incoming Min free even today I still have that only perk I had to give up was free n/w at 6 is now gone but doesn't matter I never come close to using 500 anytime min anyway.

Quick question about upgrading with Sprint

So I've been with Sprint for years. Currently have a unlimited data family plan with 2 lines and like 1000 or 1500 minutes and also get a 25% discount as my girlfriend who has the other line used to work at a company that gave us the discount.
I upgraded my EVO 4G to an EVO LTE 2 years ago at Best Buy and had no problem keeping my same plan with the discount by signing a new 2 year contract.
Question is will I be able to do the same if I upgrade through Best Buy or maybe another place? I don't want to be transferred to their new plans, lose my discount, or pay monthly for a new phone. Would rather pay the $200 or whatever upfront. Please provide me with as many details regarding this as possibe and thanks in advance.

you can keep your same plans, however they will do a check to see if you are still eligible for the employer discount. They will request to send an email to the @domain.com of the place she worked, and then click on the link in the email sent, to re-verify for the discount. If she has a friend still working at the company she have the email sent to them, they can forward it to her and she can simply click on the link. There is no other association or follow up to verify for the discount. I have not worked for MSFT for years but still get my discount because I have a few friends with @Microsoft.com email addresses that I can have sprint send the work discount email confirmation to. They may talk up new plans to you, but you can politely refuse and tell them you want to stick with the same plan.
Thank you for the reply. She worked at a daycare and never had an email account so not sure how we can do that but do I have to go through Best Buy or could I go somewhere else? Even a Sprint store to keep my current plan and pay for the new phone upfront after the discount?

in that case, they might need a form filled out or something - I was assuming a larger corporation, my bad.
you should be able to go anywhere - sprint store, best buy, amazon.com, etc. but you may need to talk to a real person to do the keep the same plan. I have never purchased a phone online from a place like wirefly or amazon yet. Perhaps someone else could chime in on how that works.

I purchased my upgrade from Amazon and was never pressured to change my plan. I could have kept it if I wanted to. I did change to the new "my way" plan however because for my two lines, it was $20 cheaper than my old unlimited data plan which was similar to the OP's.

@op I've been leaning on sprint and tmo the last few days, asking questions, as I'm thinking of finally switching to tmo. That said, if you go to a sprint store , they have the pay monthly plans they're being pushed to sell by corporate. I, too, would prefer to pay a few hundred up front and be done with it....screw increasing my monthly expenses. If you buy online, you don't pay monthly and you keep your plan. Rep told me that even if igo to best buy or target or something, they still have the normal upgrade with contract and without changing plans. They have N5 and HTC One each for only 100, no monthly payment and no plan change.

Sprint Discount Program
You can always go to this address and see you are available for a discount either through your own employer or your girlfriend's current employer.

Sprint offers a lot of discounts to a lot of companies, especially entities like public universities or state employees.

The only issue with the discount is that if they approve it, part of the clause is another two year contract...as well as that with the new Framily Plan styled contract, the discount is only applied to the data costs of the phone, not the entire plan cost. *smh about that*
So with say a 20% discount and it only being applied to an unlimited plan, you'd save maybe $4-6 a month.
Yeah, but the OP was talking about upgrading and maintaining his current plan, not switching to Framily.
Framily plans may be marginally less expensive than a Family Share plan, but they don't subsidize the cost of upgrade hardware. For about the same cost of a Framily plan over 2 years you can have the standard family plan, discounts net about $20 off instead of 5, and phone upgrades are subsidized. I think he's on the right track.
