Quick question about upgrading with Sprint - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

So I've been with Sprint for years. Currently have a unlimited data family plan with 2 lines and like 1000 or 1500 minutes and also get a 25% discount as my girlfriend who has the other line used to work at a company that gave us the discount.
I upgraded my EVO 4G to an EVO LTE 2 years ago at Best Buy and had no problem keeping my same plan with the discount by signing a new 2 year contract.
Question is will I be able to do the same if I upgrade through Best Buy or maybe another place? I don't want to be transferred to their new plans, lose my discount, or pay monthly for a new phone. Would rather pay the $200 or whatever upfront. Please provide me with as many details regarding this as possibe and thanks in advance.

you can keep your same plans, however they will do a check to see if you are still eligible for the employer discount. They will request to send an email to the @domain.com of the place she worked, and then click on the link in the email sent, to re-verify for the discount. If she has a friend still working at the company she have the email sent to them, they can forward it to her and she can simply click on the link. There is no other association or follow up to verify for the discount. I have not worked for MSFT for years but still get my discount because I have a few friends with @Microsoft.com email addresses that I can have sprint send the work discount email confirmation to. They may talk up new plans to you, but you can politely refuse and tell them you want to stick with the same plan.

Thank you for the reply. She worked at a daycare and never had an email account so not sure how we can do that but do I have to go through Best Buy or could I go somewhere else? Even a Sprint store to keep my current plan and pay for the new phone upfront after the discount?

in that case, they might need a form filled out or something - I was assuming a larger corporation, my bad.
you should be able to go anywhere - sprint store, best buy, amazon.com, etc. but you may need to talk to a real person to do the keep the same plan. I have never purchased a phone online from a place like wirefly or amazon yet. Perhaps someone else could chime in on how that works.

I purchased my upgrade from Amazon and was never pressured to change my plan. I could have kept it if I wanted to. I did change to the new "my way" plan however because for my two lines, it was $20 cheaper than my old unlimited data plan which was similar to the OP's.

@op I've been leaning on sprint and tmo the last few days, asking questions, as I'm thinking of finally switching to tmo. That said, if you go to a sprint store , they have the pay monthly plans they're being pushed to sell by corporate. I, too, would prefer to pay a few hundred up front and be done with it....screw increasing my monthly expenses. If you buy online, you don't pay monthly and you keep your plan. Rep told me that even if igo to best buy or target or something, they still have the normal upgrade with contract and without changing plans. They have N5 and HTC One each for only 100, no monthly payment and no plan change.

The only issue with the discount is that if they approve it, part of the clause is another two year contract...as well as that with the new Framily Plan styled contract, the discount is only applied to the data costs of the phone, not the entire plan cost. *smh about that*
So with say a 20% discount and it only being applied to an unlimited plan, you'd save maybe $4-6 a month.

Yeah, but the OP was talking about upgrading and maintaining his current plan, not switching to Framily.
Framily plans may be marginally less expensive than a Family Share plan, but they don't subsidize the cost of upgrade hardware. For about the same cost of a Framily plan over 2 years you can have the standard family plan, discounts net about $20 off instead of 5, and phone upgrades are subsidized. I think he's on the right track.

wanting to get Evo 3D...new to Sprint, a couple of questions

hey guys. my Evo died about two weeks ago. i will tell you they have been two very hard weeks.
i've decided rather than buy another Evo, that i'll suffer with a POS samsung phone from the dark ages and wait for an Evo 3D.
I have a few questions for you guys:
I'm not a Sprint customer nor have I ever been. what's the process to get a Sprint account? if you have mediocre/bad credit, can you still open a new account? Is there a fee you pay in that case? or do they outright deny you an account? if you pay a fee, how much? if i want two phone lines in that account, twice the fee?
regarding the phone, the $199 is an upgrade price? does that mean if i come on to Sprint now that's not the price I get for the phone?
provided all the above goes well and I can open an account AND get two Evo 3Ds...what's the best price I can expect on the unlimited data plans? based on the Sprint website it's $(70 + 10) x 2 = $160? how much are the "taxes, fees, and surcharges" that they convieniently don't include in that price? is there a student plant/discount?
seems expensive! i'm paying $90 for two lines on MetroPCS right now with everything except slow data speeds...
thank you for your answers guys. I really want the Evo 3D, and having crippled the Evo 4G on MetroPCS for nearly a year, I'm really hoping I can let the Evo 3D work like it's meant to!

You could pay anywhere between 0-400 of 500 dollers for a deposit and yes if you came is get the EVO 3d for 199$ also your bill would be like 160 with insurance I know that seems like a lot a month bot compaired to vzw tmo or ATT its cheap for smart phones
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
My guess is most u will prolly pay is 200 for a deposit unless ur credit is really bad
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
As far as bad credit it is a case by case scenario. usually if you have bad credit they put a spending cap on you. So getting 2 3d's might be hard if they do that. If your credit is bad enough they might deny you BUT i have never heard of this happening. The upgrade price is also the new line price so the phone will be $199 with new activation.
As far as a plan i recommend the 129.99 family plan. with the 10 dollar add on for both 3d's it is only $150. Discounts are available but you will have to check with your school / employer for the percentage off they get you. I know if you have a credit union account you can get %10. But like i said you have to check.
Hope this helps.
My credit is pretty bad and I didn't have to pay any thing down. I do have a spending cap of $150, but since it's only me and my bill has been $86, I have no reason to worry about it. I di have to pay the $35 activation fee on my 1st bill.
Fees for me have been about $16 total on the 69.99 plan. I plan on paying about $100 a month when I get the E3D.
The only reason keeping me from switching my phone over to Metro is the really slow data connection. I was playing on a phone on Metro and the data speed was about 1/3 of what I am getting on 3G
If you want to tether off your phone, which I do when I'm not at home, Sprint has unlimited data. This by far keeps me on Sprint more than anything else. No other carrier offers "truly unlimited data".
Don't forget there is a $125.00 credit if you are coming over from another carrier. It is supposed to expire the day before the Evo3d is released but I have read about people that asked Sprint to extend it for them and they did.
Look into that. Im not sure if it's $125 per phone number or per account. Worth calling about.
Edit, here it is:
http://www.sprint.com/landings/portcredit/?ECID=vanity:switchtosprint
Again, it expires 6/23, but call and ask them about it and they more than likely will allow you the credit. It is only one more day.
working at sprint I never saw a deposit over $150
Sprint is extremely Lax on there credit unless they have changed.
unless you have terrible credit you'll most likely need no deposit.
new line/fully eligible upgrade prices are the same
so if its 199 after rebates you pay 199, and a 36$ activation fee that gets put on your first bill.
take a look at trading in your old device and talk to them about the carrier transfer credit.
This was my scenario as well. I don't have the best credit, in fact it's pretty damn ****ty. Today I was approved for 5 lines, no deposit, and no spending limit. And that's just me, no co-signers or anything. I was even given an account number so when I go back on the 24th, I won't have to do the process over. So OP, I'd say you're in good shape.
I started this thread a while back, you might be able to get one of these discounts
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1006791
thanks for the information and definitely thanks for the info on the student discount. both my wife and I qualify (she's a grad student, i'm a law student) and that 23% off brings the price down a lot, much closer to what i'm paying now
I work for Sprint, if you have a mediocre credit score you'll probably pay $50 for deposit then if you have a bad credit score you might pay $100 and it's for each line. You'll get the same discount on phones as what others are getting and you will get a balance limit probably $150 to $200. If you port in to Sprint from a different carrier you will get $125 credit and it is for each line. But you will get it probably after 3 or 4 months after your activation and it will automatically apply on your bill. This promo is up until june 26 only.
The family plan is the way to go. If you want to order online you could do the EPRP plan for $109.99 for 1600 minutes shared and $10 extra per line for smartphones coming out to $129.99. I know the 23% student credits that were mentioned don't discount the $10 fee or any additional lines. On the EPRP family plan the 3rd line and up is $15 vs $20.

People SELLING SERO plans? SCAM

I can't believe someone is actually selling the INFO to open a new Sprint SERO account for $190? Really, its easy to get a SERO account for FREE! just google it and your done... jeez and this guy has sold numerous "plans" stealing someones hard earned cash. He seems to want to lure you in thinking that the evo 3d in included but there is a catch.
He then goes on to say that you are just buying access to the site to create your account and you still have to buy your phone plus pay any other fees associated with it.
check out the listing here BUT DONT BUY THIS IM NOT PROMOTING IT
his listing says:
Up for sale is Brand New Sprint Sero Premium Plan with 2-year agreement with sprint. This plan is $40 a month.
You can buy any new phone you'd like from Sprint's website. Even the new HTC EVO 3D!
Remember you pay for the phone separately. This price is just for the plan.

Sprint Employee Referral Offer or something like that. I use to have it a few years back when I had my Touch Pro. It's pretty much just a discounted plan. Kind of hard to keep when you get newer phones because they try to make you switch plans.

The sero plans seem ok, but if you really wanna save some money you gotta get on the wireless advantage club. I pay $40 a month for 500 mins, unlimited data 3g/4g, unlimited texts, tv, gps, etc etc. The base is $20 + $10 for "iconic devices" (basically any decent phone) + $10 for any phone with 4g. But you have to know an actually employee willing to put you on their plan

The lowest non sero plan with unlimited data is $80. If you are like most people and only use small minutes every month, you save $40 a month and the taxes are cheaper.
Keep in mind SERO is dead, and the new plans are EPRP and are ~$20 more than SERO and the only way to get an actual SERO plan is from someone who has one adding you a line, then transferring it to it's own contract, people have been doing this, and charging a premium amount of $150-$200 since 2008.

My girlfriend and I are on a plan where we share 1500 minutes. With 12 days left in the billing cycle, we've racked up a whopping 186 minutes between us. If I could have a shared plan with 300 minutes on it for much less, I'd love that -- email, instant messaging, and texts have pretty much eaten into actual phone calls for me. Neither of us has a land line, btw.

Exactly. I have the advantage 500 min plan and I use MAYBE 150 minutes a month outside of mobile to mobile and free nights and weekends. Not to mention we get yearly upgrades.
Advantage Club is awesome. Being an employee was more awesome though.
I have 2 epics on the $129 plan, less 20% though. That's 1500 minutes w/ free cell calls and nights/weekends, and unlimited everything else as well, which makes it $51.x / per line.

[Q] thinking of upgrading, want to keep sero premium 500 plan

Hi all,
I've got the evo 4g. Thinking about upgrading to the evo lte. But when I go to sprint, it says i need to pick a new plan. I REALLY don't want to pick a new plan since i'd be paying an extra $30/mo for less I currently have the sero premium 500 plan. Base cost is $40/mo but the plan they want me to sign up for is $70/mo and i would get 50 minutes less a month.
Thats not a very enticing deal - get $150 credit for the phone, but agree to a 2 year term and pay an extra $720 over the 2 years for less talk time.
anyone know if there's a way to upgrade phones but keep the same plan? I like sprint but that sort of deal is basically sprint scream 'fk you, we dont want you as a customer'
That Sprint rep definetely didnt know what he was doing. It is 100% possible to upgrade your phone and stay on your Sero-P plan. Its best to call the offical Sero number and order your phone from them. Its clear only a few people in actual sprint stores know how to handle Sero-P plans. I will have to look up the official sero sprint number.
In the mean time, maybe you can call another sprint store and see if they know how to handle sero premium accounts
You need to call the sero accounts #

They bumped me from the old sero 500 plan to sero premium, just so I could get the lte. Then they forwarded me to telesales, who were even better, the guy added my wife with the same plan as me. When I called accounts later for some info about porting her number, the lady was all pissed off that they did something they weren't supposed to.
My experience has been that I called a few times, and every time I got a woman with a southern drawl, they wouldn't help me at all and got rather angry about the fact I was still on sero. Everytime I got a guy, they were helpful. Considering you're already on sero premium, you might be able to go straight through telesales for the phone. The only downside of ordering through telesales, is that it's $199 (cheaper elsewhere)- but you have assurances from them that your plan won't get screwed up, so it's worth the extra cost to me.

I didn't call anyone, this was just using their website. But I'll try calling and see what they say.
You got lucky - i had added a 2nd line to my account last year and they wouldn't let me put it on sero - had to get the regular plan.
I'm just going to wait a little while until the phone is out just to see what the reviews are from users and then i'll decide if i should upgrade or not.
I have a similar question.
My buddy is going to let me use a upgrade for this phone and I'm on a indirect-employee plan. Someone mentioned that one of his phones could possibly not be able to be used for 6 months after I upgrade and swap.
I called sprint they said that is not true and I can ESN swap from his account to mine as long as that line has a phone attacthed to it, which it does.
I believe we will be moved to the $50 SERO plan from the $30 if you began there.
+$10 for the "smartphone" premium, and another +$10 for the premium data fee.

This is True- and if you already have the sero premium plan, you will still have to call because the LTE addon is different from the current Data addon on the plan. But from what I've read over on other forums you can keep your Sero plan.

The base SERO plan is $30
Add 10 for premium devices
Add 10 for premium data
You're gonna have to pay $50 a month for this phone - same as the iPhone and all 4g phones available with SERO.
New customer?
You need to already have SERO to have the option to use this device for $50.
I think new customers pay $80 a month for the unlimited plan with this device
I'm on sero premium 500. It's $40 plus $10 for premium data (still trying to figure out what the hell is premium about the data i use). So i pay $50. So i guess i'll keep paying what I have now, assuming i can find someone at sprint willing to let me upgrade and keep my plan.
just called in and ordered the evo lte. Didn't have to do anything to keep my plan - but I guess we'll see once I actually get the phone. I never trust things when they go that easy
Same boat, and I haven't had any problems upgrading. I've had the 4G LTE for about close to a month now.
Once you paid the extra 10 for the 4G premium data for the Evo 4G, nothing needs to change to get the LTE data. They change the name, but the details remain the same.
I'll believe it when it see it - i'm always skeptical when things just seem to work without any hassle
I just got the phone earlier today and tried activating it - wants me to pick a new plan before I can activate. Unfortunately sprint doesn't have 24 hour customer care, so hopefully I'll just call them tomorrow to get the phone activated, cuz I'm definitely not going to switch plans.
fyi - I had to call the employee sales dept, not the normal tele-sales dept to activate the phone and keep this plan.

Mobile Share Value Plans

Not sure if anyone really cares or not but I just knocked $105 off my AT&T Family plan bill with their new Mobile Share Value Plans.
I'm not a sales agent for AT&T, I'm just letting my fellow XDA users know.

This is a real deal if you have a large family plan like i do with 5 lines and all smartphones. I was able to lower my bill to $192 a month from $306 the previous month with one phone call. And even better we are getting 10gigs a month now vs the 6gigs i was on.
I know I'm going to take some heat for spamming the board but if one person saves some money I'll be happy
ok flame away
Not sure if its worth giving up an unlimited data plan for this plan.
Ya, I saw those plans, heck, it's even worth it for just 2 lines and 10Gig, $100+$15+$15=$130. I am paying 70 for my single line and only 2gig of data. I know, everyone will tell me to go to a prepay, but I HAVE to have the microcell so I am stuck.

Unl plans are caped at 3 GB... Then u get the slowest speed...
10 GB = $100 + 15 per device
15 GB = $130 + 15 per device
Completely worth it. Now if you do an upgrade after moving to the plan instead of paying 15 for that line you will pay 40... they are trying to cope somehow how T-Mobile works.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I went ahead and jumped on this. I had to give up 1 unlimited (LTE) data plan, which was throttled after 5GBs anyway. I think it's worth it to save $90/month.
We went to the value plan. Only two lines, so no massive savings. Went to from 6 to 10 GB for $10 cheaper
I was under the impression that once you switched to one of these plans, you no longer would get subsidized phone upgrades. Correct? In other words, the next time you want to upgrade you basically are on the AT&T Next setup (full unsubsidized price of phone broken out over x payments)

This is correct. Also, if you have currently been in contract for 6 months, they will allow a switch to AT&T Next. I feel it will not be long before they completely go to this method, especially with T-Mobile and others doing much the same.
Ive held on to my 2 line unlimited everything plan for years, paying about $185 before taxes and fees. I think it makes sense to go for this new plan, which drops the price down to $150 while sharing 10gigs. i've only ever gone over 3gigs in a month two times.

Okay, so if that is the case, it seems like you will only save money if you do not intend to take advantage of subsidized upgrades in the future (assuming still available).

From a purely monetary standpoint, yes - however, when you compare the data that you receive (10 GB vs 4/6GB), you are still saving money if you use that much data. But without taking advantage of the subsidized upgrades, you would most likely even out.

I was under the impression that once you switched to one of these plans, you no longer would get subsidized phone upgrades. Correct? In other words, the next time you want to upgrade you basically are on the AT&T Next setup (full unsubsidized price of phone broken out over x payments)

Do you remember where you heard this? It's the first I've heard about this aspect to the new plans, which means I may regret making the switch.

My understanding from the AT&T rep (and my bill) is that each smartphone in the value plans are now $40 per month with a $25 monthly credit, so net $15.
If I upgrade using a Next plan, the $25 credit remains. (Next = a 0% interest loan to purchase the phone over 20 months.)
If I upgrade using a 2-year subsidy, the $25 credit is removed. (Making for a really expensive upgrade-- 24 * $25 + $200 up front = $800 for an iPhone 5S that I could purchase outright for $650.) Not that I'd purchase a 5S, but just an example of how an already overpriced phone just got even more expensive.
Basically, they really do not want people buying subsidized phones, and that's fine with me. I'd rather purchase the phone I want on my own timing and pay for it outright.
Up until the value plans it made sense to do 2-year upgrades because AT&T was already padding their rate plans with the subsidy cost, whether you upgraded or BYOP you paid for it.
Now, it makes more sense to just BYOP.
Yes you have to stay on the next plan, ability to get a new phone yearly or 18 months, to keep the $15/month. I also saved 50% on my phone bill.

This is good news, I was worried that when i upgraded with NEXT it would go from $15 to $40. I guess I should have read into it a little more, but yeah, my family is saving close to $100 since we switched to the value plan.
Love this plan. Switched to it immediately.
The Next program is basically a phone leasing program. So if you pay $30/month for Next18, that $540 is gone when you trade in for the new one. It would be cheaper buying the phone out right then sell it when you wanted to get a new one.

+1 and you are still dealing with the bloat. Going unlocked from here on out. These value plans are nice. Thanks @t-mobile! ? and AT&T for falling in line..

Upgrades?
I changed to the shared plan two months ago, losing my useless unlimited plan. I moved 5 phones. Two of them were eligible for upgrades at the time, but I was holding them for when I really wanted them. I need one now. I went to the ATT website and checked upgrade-ability. The two phones seem like they have subsidized plans available to them. I can also do the Next plan for any of my phones for the same price. So I can pay zero interest for 20 months, have no plan commitment, and pay in full for my daughter's new iphone over 20 months, or I can pay $199 for the phone, a one-time $36 upgrade fee, and commit for another two years of my shared plan. There is no change to the basic rate.

[Q] To Switch or Not Switch Plans When Buying LG G3

Greetings All!
Okay, after some hesitation I'm planning to upgrade from my much-loved GS3 to the LG G3.
Currently I'm on the Everything Data 450 plan ($69.99) plus the smartphone fee ($10). I never use all my minutes, not even close, since all mobile to mobile and mobile to VOIP calls are included and free. I only talk to one person that I know of who still uses a traditional landline. My corporate discount saves me about $10 a month as it applies to the $69.99 portion of my bill.
Unlimited, My Way, is $50 for unlimited talk and text plus $30 for unlimited data. Just a penny more, but I have verified that my corporate discount would only apply to the $30 portion of the bill so I would be paying several dollars more a month.
Ergo, I'm planning on keeping my old plan. I see no advantage to switching. Am I missing out on something here?
Many thanks in advance.
Cheers, Henri
I had a similar experience a few days ago. Wanted to get my gf the G3 on the easy pay. I was told to use easy pay I would have to switch to the new plans. The salesman says "it costs the same". But me being a mathematician, lol, quickly figured it was going to cost me $275 before taxes, for 4 line and a tablet. Where my bill on traditional account is about $240 with taxes and fees.
I have 5 lines on the ED1500 plan and I get a 23% corp discount. I worked out I'd pay an extra $60 or so a month switching to the Framily plan even if I could get an extra 2 people to get me to the 7 member threshold for maximum discount. Framily is a crock compared to the old plans if you have more than 2 lines.

Made the unfortunate mistake of signing up on framily and ez pay. Hasty decision as I wanted the phone and got talked into the plan under the guise that it was cheaper. Got home. Did the math and it was about 40-50 more per month compared to old plan. Spent 4 hours in best buy returning the phones and reversing the plan only to leave with no devices as my available upgrade was no longer available. Now back on an s3. Upgrade is now activated again, just need to go back and rebuy the phone. Looking forward to getting the g3 back. This s3 just doesn't cut it anymore.
They talked me into the framily plan its me and two others my bill is about the same. I wanted a new phone (g3) but it would cost like 100 a month. They said they could add people to my plan or what ever to lower my bill i waited one week now pay 69 a month for my line with unlimited and insurance. Its awesome just ask them to add people to your plan

If you'll forgive my anonymity, a large, well known bank. Previously, I had the same discount through Nortel Networks but the company went bankrupt and no longer exists.

Yeah, I just don't see the benefit. I have 5 lines. My brother pays me monthly and my sister direct deposits 1/2 the amount of her bill bi-weekly directly to my bank account so I really only pay for my S.O., my daughter and myself which ends up being $197 and change. Upgrading every year would be nice, but I finally have a phone where I don't think I'll need to do that. Also, Framily does away with free navigation. I knoe Google Maps is free, but I have not always had good experiences with it.
Happy to have the g3 back and all parts of original plan back in action!

In my case... Let me let you know. I have the Framily Plan. In the group that the Store Sales Representative create for me are now 10 persons with my 5 lines. (He add to it other 5 unknown ppl) I only pay $25 bucks per line + taxes... I have 2 LG G3, 2 HTC M8 and 1 Nexus 5. My UPS Corporate 25% discount on the account only works when I buy accessories because all the lines just have 1GB of data. I don't see the fact of have unlimited when everyone here all day is connected to Wi-Fi in work or home so..
What I want to say is I HAVE NO EASY PAY installments... This is the trick.
I had an old plan, (all without contract since June) this week I renew all the contracts with new devices and then the Rep changed me to the new Framily plan.
I was supposed to be charged for $15 bucks until I can renovate or something like that on all the lines but the rep says for some reasons (maybe because changes were made at the same time) the system would not charge me. Now I have my phones without payment and are mines. You should try this.

I use UPS and get 23 or 25% can't remember.
Don't forget the biggest difference between the old plans and framily is that you no longer get subsidized devices.
