LED notification questions - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any details on this would be good. Is it going to be similar to g nexus notification led which has to be the best, you can choise different colours etc?

Says RGB LED notification which suggests to me it can produce almost any colour.

That's brilliant, its a small feature but essential inmho. Not much info about this feature so thanks for sharing this.

I have found it kinda surprising that no on has touched on the led notifacations in reviews yet. The question in my mind isn't just is it an umlimited color palatte but also does it work before you pickup the handset? On the N1 you could see across the room that you had an email, text, etc. and this is what I'm hoping for with this phone. It has little point if you have to pick up the phone to light the led.

I didn't know some phones worked like that? I mean that you have to pick the phone up in order for the LED to light up... Which phones work like that? That sounds like a really dumb thing for a phone to do! The point of a notification LED is after all that you should be able to see the notifications without having to pick the phone up to check it, no?

I'm hoping it's like the Blackberrys. I miss BerryBuzz, had the option to set multiple colours to multiple events.

If its anything like nexus galaxy I will happy. Mind you had to root device only then was able to use the different colours.

I agree! Hopefully they would be more inclined to port BeBuzz over to Android once this device is out.

Color Trackball for Eris?

Hey guys, not sure if everyone saw this or not but the N1 just got colored notification on their trackballs was thinking since we got root maybe this will be an option, along with colored notifications. I know its been a mysterious if the Eris can do these but I think it should be able to based on my knowledge on htc products and the LEDs they use. Here is the XDA article:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/trackballcolornotify-1-0beta3-available-for-nexusone/
Thoughts? Confirmations?
It doesn't work, tried it earlier.
I was think more or less someone possibly changing the coding to work for the Eris as I assume they would be different from the N1
Im fairly certain that the erises hardware is only a white led. The Nexus one has a completely different trackball design, with multiple coloured leds inside.
dang I was hoping for an orange trackball light.

i did the same when the article was posted.
no workey
The developer of Handcent told me that the Eris' trackball doesn't support multi-colors.

[Q] Led Notification ?

Do you think that Samsung will put an Notification LED in this phone or will be omitted like in SGS1 ?
This is a very useful and cheap HW addition and should not be missing from any phone.
Nope there's no status LED.
Not really a deal breaker for me. There's still vibrate, and notifcation sounds. Can always just turn the screen on and check messages if you were away from the phone for more than 5 minutes.
don't be so sure that there isn't one... nobody can tell until we the handset in our hands or at least a reviewer that can be asked about it.
i don't care that much about it though. my desire has an led and just flashes for 5min after a missed call. Kinda defeats the purpose if its not flashing all the time until you check it.
true, but id prefer a slight beep, notification led doesnt really do much for me, tho, im fairly sure they would implement it....
You might have discovered this already, but for all those that might stumble upon this thread:
There is a great alternative to a dedicated notification LED: BLN :victory:
BackLightNotification uses your SII's capacitive 'hard' buttons, [MENU] and [BACK], to act as notification LED's whenever the need to notify you appears.
This feature is implemented in a number of kernels; DreamKernel and Siyah I know has them (Check for the option in ExTweaks).

[Q] Flashlights to the beat of the music, possible?

Hello.
The other day I was listening to music and I remembered my old phone, an SE W760 that had lights to the beat of the music.
I thought I could do something for him to take the sound of music through the microphone and move the flash at the same rate.
I'd like to make this possible in our phones, but I have enough of Know-how to do it, I ask your help.
Sorry for my bad English.

Thank you very much!

I prefer my current phone, I'm a fan of android.
And I think it would be a nice feature when staying with friends.
Each person has their own opinion.
I did this with my motorola L6 a few years ago... I'm sure its possible but it serves no purpose really.
Apologies

Im sorry i put you down. im also a fan of android and thats the reason why i jumped from my W705i to this x10 mini pro.
well, it is just odd because you dont have other lights other than the camera light and the LED lights on the top of the phone.
i remember some people used to use the LED's to do a dancing light technique like thing when using the walkman. and it was for some models that supported.
like for the A200 platform we used to change the .xml file values and lights come and go like a wave when in a incoming call, including the display.
Those where like centuries ago after Android came in. looks like i forgot but have memories of it when i think of as im writing.
If anyone have idea about the matter they can help you.
Good day!
It is a good idea with the lights and flashled notifications.
Apology accepted.
It's really old topic but may be somebody still need this
I've developed a music strobe android app, you can see it here:
- Topic on xda
- Music Strobe on Google Play
It cathes the music beat and has a screen and led strobe.

How to Identify the New Galaxy Note7

I'am the only one pissed about this? AOD is ruined for me now! and the status bar will look so stupid with some wallpapers... I wish this is only for US versions...
https://news.samsung.com/global/how-to-identify-the-new-galaxy-note7
it could be worse, its just a icon...
Why are people so pissed about something that hasn't happened yet. if it happens will probably be temporary.
Not to mention in the short term it's a good way to check it for places that's banning it. Like airport's etc

Well that de-escalated quickly!
Smart idea considering the concern with airports, etc.
If it's just a fw anyone can flash it on defected devices unless they manage to check imei when flashing with odin...
Hope they add a toggle switch for that green icon. It's really ugly.

I am so pissed, I have created a petition to ask Samsung to add an option to disable the ugly green icon. Please sign it and I hope we can make a change!
https://www.openpetition.eu/hu/petition/online/samsung-note-7-green-battery-icon
I like the green icon, I have used xposed before to change colors in several icons, so, green batt is fine for me
I wild of loved a blue battery.
Hopefully they will give us the option to change it back. Heck they already give us enough useless feathers, please give us one we could actually benefit from.

It did, my new one has the green icon..
At first I didn't think much of it, but the more I see it, the more I think it's actually pretty hideous.
Btw, I don't know about the themes, haven't really checked that out, I'm using Nova Launcher and it's just green in that.
Please try changing the theme if it's always green in AOD?
Why didn't they patch the bad note 7's with a red battery to identify the bad ones instead? Dumb
The battery stays green no matter what theme you apply.
It wouldn't make sense to make it so easy to change as the whole point is to make it easy to identify a safe product and none safe product, and if it was easy to change no one will believe you have a safe device etc.

Tested or just speculations? For whome I have to prove that device is safe? This is just stupid... Personally AOD is ruined for me, an that green battery icon will annoy me everyday. Was not planing on rooting but now star to think I will need to. Damn Samsung they overdid it... a simple message in about phone would solved all airport problems. Now we will have a ruined status bar and AOD... GOOD JOB SAMMY! The only problem is that there is no phone like N7 atm and I can't move on ?

I am willing to bet when we get the 7.0 update, by that time us Sammy ( and the CPC, Health canada etc) are satisfied the old devices are handed in the battery icon goes back.
Relax, I'm willing to bet $$$ this is a temporary measure.

Tested. I've had my replacement device since 12th September and received the update yesterday.
I've tried three different themes and on all of them the battery remains green.
I don't see what the massive issue is with it. Yes it isn't white like the rest but does it fundamentally change the phone? No.
If you don't like it and it makes such a big difference for you then maybe the device isn't for you.
Yes I woke up this morning to a message that my device had update... and now have the green icon. I mind it less then I thought I would.

Led Notification

Please can someone confirm if the led notification is support all colours (RGB )?
I have seen yellow and green so far when charging, haven't noticed anything else yet.
Why does the ability to have different colors on the notification light mean anything though? That is the last thing I personally care about when considering phones.
I'm not trying to be rude, just curious as to why it is important to your situation.

It's important to me. I use LIghtflow to turn on different colors, some flash at different rates, to notify me of many different things. Allows me to know if I have something that may need my attention w/o having to turn the phone on. Lack of this capability would be the straw that sends me to a different phone.

it does kinda of suck that we can't control it, and have to get a app for it, not saying it's a hassle, but asus, should of had something like this. Hopefully the custom roms that come out for this, will have this included.
I Ann a bit confused about this topic. I may have taken it wrong. I understood it to be that only the 3 Coors were possible, meaning that even with Lightflow I wouldn't be able to present other colors.
If Lightflow will be able to generate different colors, then I'm ok with it.
All colors are pretty much available if my understanding of it is right. If I remember Fom my reading a while back, multiple colors can be the.ed on at a different brightness to make different colors show up on the notification.
My note 4 only had red, green and blue and you could use the app for Samsung phones to make any color you needed.
Sadly Lightflow isn't working for me, so i'm not sure what else to use until something done to change it, if there was some kind notepad that controls all of this, i will change it.

Oooohhh...Lightflow not working. Not good.
However, I might mention that I've had problems with LF at different times with different ROMS, phones etc., and ultimately it was just finding the right settings. You might try emailing the DEVs for input.
There are other apps you can try.
Keep us posted if you get it working.

i did try others ones as well like light manager and led pro. None of them work for this... we need a dev to fix this issue up, but until everything is released from ASUS for the sources, these topics we are creating for now, will have to be halted, until this is done.
[sigh][/sigh]...It seems every phone I'm considering has a major issue, or doesn't meet the specs I want on my next phone.
Because I install so many apps and use a lot of then consistently, I want 6 GB of RAM. Sui that limits my list right there.
I've been down to the Oneplus 3, and the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe. The Oneplus had inaccurate GPS. And note this problem on the Asus.
Both of those issues nix a phone for me.

sorry for double posting, but i did talk to asus support and they told me this on the LED indicator...
Unfortunately I am afraid that currently there isn't a way for you to customize the LED indicator, as it is*a combination of both HW and SW working.
For the unlock*bootloader, ASUS does not actually asssit with unlocking of the Android Bootloader. I must advise that you do so at your own risk, as once the boot loader is unloked it will void your warranty.
But if you insist to do that, we will transfer customers' wishes to the related department for further development.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again for assistance.

I guess not until we find someone that could try to custom a way to change these colors to what we want. More info from Asus, if you want me to ask them anything else about this, let me know.
====
For the LED indicator, there are only 3 colors in zf. *Red green and yellow.*
Yellow = full charge
Green blinking = notification*
Red blinking = low battery
To turn on led notification go to settings>>display>>led on
Apps with notification light settings will not control Zf led lights as it is not allowed by Asus system and all led lights and notification are always set to their default which is indicated above.

Yeah that deal breaker, but the phone isn't bad, and there is still a way to wake the phone up when you get a notification, if you use the app screen notifications, it will light up the phone , showing what message you get. as for the LED , yeah it will suck for now on that, despite how good everything is until they let boot loader go , so we can mod this phone.
