slow motion camera - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has the SIII a slow motion camera like the htc one x?

It has alot of functions, but don't think so. Would be cool though!

In the camera filming mode the only options you get are: edit shortcuts, self recording, flash, recording mode (normal or MMS size), exposure value, timer, effects (negative, b&w, sepia), resolution, white balance, outdoor visibility, anti shake, guidelines and video quality.
Hope it helped!

there's some apps but they are not working..

The thing is that the camera itself records just 30 frames per second, that's just over the comfortable zone of smoothness (you need around 60 for a good slow-mo). I don't see how apps could help with this one since the speed of the sensor matters here.

galaxy s3 camera lens has the capability of doing slow motion videos @ lower resolution, wait for the mods.

Just download the Note 2 Camera mod here by HyperX and flash it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691145
It comes with 1/8 speed slow motion (12.5% speed ~ 1 second recorded is 8 seconds video) and it's working for me. Make sure to read the thread first to make sure you got the right software first.
Good luck buddy!

Note 2 has slow motion!
Maybe someone will be good enough to liberate the slow motion from the Note 2 to other platforms ))

[Q] Camera Panorama Mode Resolution

So,
Can anyone tell me if the SGS 2 suffers from crappy panoramic photo resolution like the SGS 1 ?
It's such a nice feature working so well, but capped by resolution....
Cheers!
All camera in the market even dedicated ones doesnt use the full resolution in panorama modes.
Galaxy S2 is the same, low res.
might be best if you want full res to take multiple pis and place them into Photoshop panorama. not the quickest but the best results.
yah, it does indeed save it with poor resolution (go to the camera section of this review, there's a sample panoramic shot). I agree with NIK516, you're better off taking manual pictures and stitching them together in a 3rd party app if you want good quality panoramic shots

Aww Shucks! was really looking forward to some awesome and great mindblowing high res panorama shots. With the processor that Samsung put into this baby, thats not too much to ask, or is it ??
Nice thing about panorama mode (with Samsung Infuse at least) is that it utilizes both the built in compass and accelerometer to align the images correctly. Very nice! I have taken many panoramas by hand and stitched them together with 3rd party software but results are mixed when the camera is hand held.
So I also was bummed to find that this very nice feature in my Infuse is limited to minimum resolution. Hey, I used an app on my old HTC Touch Pro to tweak camera presets and increase resolution. Isn't there something similar for Android??
Maybe someone could make a mod on that feature ?
So it will have a better resolution.. that would be great!
PUSHING!
I really would want to have this feature modded in one of the camera.apk's
PLEASE!
I remember back in my Windows Mobile days there was a registry edit that would allow each image of the panoramic capture to be set to full resolution. Is there a tweak for Android?
Yeah that's the 2nd thing lacking from the SGS2 for me, hd panorama mode and notification led
i see panorama on sgs2 not bad..
Please, someone do something to increase resolution.
It's useless at 400 vertical pixels. The mid-end Samsung Wave have a much higher res for panoramic photos. It's an absurd shame on Galaxy S2!!
Here is a comparision (Wave S8500, Galaxy S2):
Wave (800 pixels):
SG2 (400 pixels):
There is no mod or hack to change the miserable 400 pixels resolution?
+1
Great feature but the resolution is TERRIBLE.

Someone is working to find a solution to this problem and increase Panoramic photo shots?
LPQ ICS 4.0.3 from official KIES update and Panorama shoot still sucks with a ridiculous 368 vertical pixels resolution!!!
They even reduced it from 400 to 368!!! Oh my god...
And still won't save changed prefs on camera quit.
Still nothing to increase ridiculous vertical resolution after almost 1 year? OMG
Apparently still nothing...
hopping for a better resolution
where are the gurus on this? I wish I could learn how to do a MOD.
Just waiting for a change on the resolution, thanks.
Also noticed this on my gs2, but what makes me wonder the most, is that on my dumped old Samsung wave, on bada, I could make high res panorama pics, while this cam and processor is better.. So all we need is a developer who knows bada and Android to make a mod I hope

Is it possible to increase fps in sgs2 video camera at lower resolution?

Hey guys, i take my phone on trips to take snapshots and videos are 2 of the list of reasons, the quality is pretty great when taking videos too but what bugs me is the 30fps limit, it doesnt semm to be 30 at all, its more like 24 or less because everytime i change the angle even slowly the image gets all shaky and blurry (nothing to do with the autofocus) that makes me think its something to do with the low fps limit but in case im not anyone knows how to avoid it?
Also when im taking lower resolution videos like 720p the fps is still 30, is there no way to change it to 60fps at lower resolution?
Thanks in advance!
At the moment its not possible to increase the framerate over 30fps.
I have a Samsung Wave capable of record at [email protected],I miss this capability in the Samsung Galaxy S2, I think it could do it at higher resolution.
If you cant record in stable 30fps in the Galaxy S2 look at this thread:

Meh, many problems with this phone regarding camera, its such a shame it has so much freaking potential... and yet they decided to let it rot with its issues.
I guess ive learned my lesson with samsung, probably will go for Sony next time but i hate the fact that i wont get OLED screen.
Thank you for your reply and for showing me that thread

sorry for my english, but I wanted to present an easy way to ask if some developer to be able to modify the application of room to run the video in slowmotion 240fps just as it does on the iPhone 6 Thanks
No, I should apologize for my jerkass comment. You should ask this question in the General Android Development forums, man.

sorry but I can not find this app on samsung
Good Thread, also interested.
S5 camera doesn't do 240 FPS, it has the same 1/8 slow motion, but it shoots at 120 FPS, and the video output is actually 8 times slower with 15 FPS. with 240 FPS i would be 8 times slower but with 30 FPS for a much smoother motion.
Thanks!

I don't understand? 1/1 would be 30fps 1/2 would be 60fps. 1/4 would be 120fps. Last but not least is 1/8 at 240fps. So yes we can record in 240fps.
Click to collapse
1/8 actually means that the video would be 8 times slower than in reality, for example if you film 1 second, when you play it, it would have 8 seconds. and the playback video is at 15 frames per second, 15 x 8 seconds equals with 120 frames shot. the video was 1 second so, 120 frames per second you can record the same 1/8 speed, but after that the video you watch has 15 FPS, it it were 240 FPS the video would had 30 fps.
deadlocked007 said:
Lol I still don't understand what you are saying. The human eye captures 30 fps so reality to us would be 30 fps is it not?
Click to collapse
Uhm... The human eye captures an infinite amount of "frames", its how our brain processes the images perceived by our eyes that changes things up and we can actually see up to about 250-300fps. Which is why looking at a 60hz and a 144hz screen is a completely different experience.
deadlocked007 said:
So then what is the fps for "reality" like you were saying?
Click to collapse
"Reality" would be recording and playing back at the same fps... If you record in 240fps and play back in 240fps, it's going to be normal speed... However, if you record in 240fps and play in 30fps, it will play back in slow motion. There are plenty of apps that will slow down any video taken, however, those apps can not create more data than was recorded by the camera.
Recording at 30fps and playing back at 15fps will be the same slow motion "speed" as recording at 120fps and playing back at 60fps... etc, etc, etc... If you record at 24,000fps and play back at 12,000fps, you are going to see the same "speed" as the 30fps video played at 15fps. The difference is the quality. When you have more fps, you can slow it down further before it begins to look choppy.
The higher the fps, the more you can slow the video before it gets choppy.
The S5 will only record 120fps, record a slo-mo video at 1/4 speed and then record one at 1/8 speed and look at the quality difference. The 1/8 speed video looks a lot less smooth because it is the same fps at the 1/4 speed video, but they have slowed the playback speed on it.

Slow motion is supposed to be this bad?

When I flip my camera to slow motion, the resolution takes a huge hit. I'm not talking about the 720p that Samsung claims it records in. As soon as I press the record button, the resolution drops to totally unacceptable levels (honestly looks like 360p). The resulting video is absolute garbage. Is there something wrong with my phone? Or is this how it's supposed to look? I'm afraid it's the latter, because my wife's S6 looks the same when recording in slow motion.

That just boggles my mind. The slow motion on my first generation Moto X from 2013 honestly looks better than what I'm getting on the S6 Edge. That's crazy. God, I hope Samsung is working on this (for the incredibly rare and almost non-existent times that I use it).
Yes, slow motion is beyond horrible. It's like 240 or 360p upscaled. Really awful.
any fix available?
is there any fix available for the bad quality?
samsung can't fix it
The truth is that samsung is not able to improve slow motion quality on galaxy s6.
Either the chip is too weak or Samsung developers are too bad!
Why put such a feature though it's useless?
That's a shame!

guys!! i freaked out like all of you too but then i found out the reason for "poor" "upscaled" (and whatever you say!) slow mo quality..
by default when u record a slow mo and play it.. it plays at 1/8 speed... thats why u see such poor quality...
Now here's the solution:
1. Record ur slow mo
2. Open the video
3. Hold and press down the highlighted slow mo part i.e between the sliders.. you will see a pop up which shows a rectangular trim box and 1/8.
4. Select 1/8 and you will see 1/2,1/4 and 1/8 options..
5. Now select 1/4 and play the video
Tadaaaa!! now you have epic slow mo video!!
i have samples but i have poor internet speed so if you guys want i can upload it on youtube but it will take some time..

Xiaomi Mi9T/Redmi K20 Photo & Video Thread

Hello,
First of all, we glad that xiaomi produced this completed package phone with budget price.
Lets share our photos and videos experiences using this lovely device.
Currently the downside that I found in video is lack shooting 24fps video and Filmic Pro wont open.
Feel free to share your photos guys
The phone is capable of taking great pictures with the Stock Camera if you have good light conditions like you see in my sample shots. They were taken with the main camera and just point and shoot. No fiddling around in the pro menu. However in low light I would recommend using the Google Camera port. The results are night and day compared to the stock camera and also selfies come out better with the Google camera.

I'm not a huge photographer. I really need the camera only for point and shoot scenarios and for that the cameras in this phone are more than enough. And for low light and selfies I just use Gcam.

That's actually impressive that a phone can capture that much details!! I wonder how it looks with Gcam.
GCam result look better for me, even the Night Mode. Stock cam sometimes abit blur/miss focus, dunno why... but with GCam, the contras is more stunning than the stock.
Pro mode stock app can take longer shutter speed than Moment Pro Camera app that i have.
anyone tries the video? Moment Pro Camera app video still cannot shoot 24fps, Filmic Pro cannot open the app.
Any idea why the phone doesn't support 4k60 Video? Because it can take 1080p240 Video which uses the same bandwidth .
What version and settings of Gcam are you guys using?

The IMX582 doesn't take 4K60 but only 30 frames. If you go full HD then 60 fps is ok. It is the snapdragon 730 that can't and it's the only difference with the pro version (snap 855)

yes, autofocus was or maybe still is broken, especially in 60fps mode - not sure how it is now on stable roms, as am using betas.
4K video are nowhere at 30 fps, more around 20fps.
I can see that EIS is working at 4K res on 9.8.8 beta
Honestly my Pocophone is much better in video recording than Mi9T.
Still photo wise - I have made many nice shots with pocophone in past, not a single one as nice with Mi9T so far...
