[Q] Help! Upgrading Xperia X10 Mini Pro (u20i) to MiniCM9-3.0.1 [5/5/12]ICS 4.0.4/CM9 - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

HI evryone,
I am just a beginner using android for few months... My device is Xperia X10 Mini pro U20i..
I tried to upgrade to MIniCM9 3.0.1 from CM7 (CM7 was working wel, i just wanted to upgrade)..
I downloaded MiniCM9-3.0.1 [5/5/12]ICS 4.0.4/CM9 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1636501
I wiped cache, user data and dalvik cache n tried to install CM9 rom.. It installed successfully, but I received a warning message. 'Should have kernel flashed to atleast ics-nAa 01' like dat...
But when i rebooted, it didnt go beyond d Sony Ericsson logo.. I went back to stock 2.1 using SEUS..
Then I rooted mobile using SuperOneClick 1.6.5 n rooted successfully. But wen i flashed the kernel 'U20_nAa-ics_01_2.6.29.6-nAa-ics-01.ftf' or 'U20_nAa-ics_01_2.6.29.6-nAa-ics-02.ftf' from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1636504, it couldnt flash.. I get an error ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CLASS="SECURITY_CLASS";ERR_DYNAMIC="SIN header verification failed"..
I tried flashing with flashtool 0.2.9.1 and with flashtool 0.7.1.0 but i couldnt get it done..
Can anyone help me with dis? Why do i receive dat error message? How can I upgrade to CM9??
While upgrading to CM7, I never flashed my device. I just rooted it, installed xrecovery n cleared factory data, disk cache, dalvik cache n installed d rom... So, is there any similar way to install CM9 also without using flashtool?
Thanks..

You need a custom kernel for MiniCM9, and the reason you can not flash this kernel is because your bootloader is locked. In the kernel thread there is a link to the tutorial on unlocking your bootloader, but please be careful, it doesn't work for everyone

Thanks for dat...
Is there a way we can install CM9 on U20i without unlocking bootloader?
Also, plz tell, does SEUS work after unlocking bootloader?

No you can't install MiniCM9 on anything other than the nAa-ICS kernel, and for that you need an unlocked bootloader
Yes, seus or pc companion will still work with an unlocked bootloader. the worst that can happen when unlocking the bootloader is that you will lose the ability to use your phone as a phone (disabled radio-capabilities). Check if it still works before flashing a kernel and custom rom, if it doesn't relock the bootloader and stay on stock kernel.

How to relock Bootloader? Link for U20i Stock Kernel..
Oh. Thanks a lot..
How to relock bootloader? I saw in a forum somewhere that there s no way to relock bootloader..
Also I tried to download the stock kernel for U20i from this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225... They have given the link for downloading the stock kernel as http://db.tt/ukt80PBn
But the link doesnt work. I have searched many times but could neither open it nor find alternative link.. Can u plz tell any alternative link for it?
Thanks so much for ur responses..

First of all, you can relock your bootloader using S1Tool (by pressing the restore button), but if it is succesfully unlocked there is no need to relock it at all, unless you need to take it back to the shop for repairs under warranty.
(I can't remember where i got the latest version of S1tool from, i'll search for it later if you need it)
as far as the stock kernel is concerned, just do a repair with pc companion or maybe seus, i usually use pc companion. it won't relock your bootloader but will install a fresh stock kernel and rom. After that you can root, install recovery or cwm whatever you used and restore the backup you hopefully made of your MiniCM7 rom.
Mind you: At this moment Minicm9 is not an upgrade yet in the sense that it will make your phone work better or easier, it's still very early in development and not that easy to get working well, if you need your phone on a day-to-day basis, stick with MiniCM7 for now.

Thanks a lot for that info..
I hav no complaints wid CM7. I just wanted to upgrade to ICS since it is out there.
I'll try unlocking bootloader n cm9. I'll go back to cm7 if it doesnt work or if it isnt suited for day-to-day operations..
Thanks so mch for ur help.. I ve understood a lot.. Thanx again.. :-D
If u find d link for S1tool, kindly post it..
Sent from my U20i using XDA

If you want to run MiniCM7, by nAa, you need to unlock your bootloader and flash the nAa GB kernel (currently at version 13).
If you want to run MiniCM7Pro, you can run it without a custom kernel and without unlocking your bootloader.
They are two different ROMS with almost the same name, i can understand why that can be a bit confusing

MiniCM7Pro
Thank you very much SmG67, for your fast and valuable reply. Am a newbie here and I am trying to learn the things.Your information is really cleared my fear about bricking. I have few doubts to share with you sir,
What is the main difference between minicm7 and minicm7pro ?
If I opt minicm7pro now, then Can I upgrade or install minicm9 later ?
Minicm7pro by Bpaul is not giving any instruction for how to install it. So where can I get the instructions

Minicm7Pro was a port to the x10mini-pro from early MiniCM7 for the x10-mini, but it got updated to the latest Gingerbread, while still working with the stock kernel, minicm7 was released later and moved to the nAa-custom kernel, which gave it some performance benefits.
If you can unlock your bootloader, you can flash any kernel and rom you like that is available for your phone, but MiniCM7Pro or ArcMini Nxt (which runs on just about any kernel) are good places to start anyway.
for installing MiniCM7Pro you need:
2.1.1.A.0.6 firmware with *4015 baseband (check Settings - About Phone, the baseband should end in 4015)
Rooted phone
ClockWorkMod Recovery
Copy the MiniCM7Pro zip to your sd-card
Boot into CWM (press back-button on the kernel-logo)
Do a backup
Install the ROM
Wipe factory-data/reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache (in CWM advanced)
Wipe Batttery Stats (in CWM advanced)
Reboot and enjoy

MiniCM7Pro
Thank you very much, and I am now looking into how to install it on my device.Because minicm7pro thread is not giving any step by step instruction to install it. I am really appreciating your help. Good day

hi... My x10 mini pro running on Minicm7 pro by paul and stock kernel.I installed it according to your advice and I appreciating your helping words. Now I would like to move to ICS rom and nAa kernel. I have few doubts regarding installation.
1. Do I need to go back to old 2.1 factory ROM before flashing ics and ics nAa kernel ?
2. If yes, How can I install old SE rom ?
3. Can I install MiniCm9 over JB nAa kernel ? because it will reduce my job when am moving to ics to JB rom
Thx

1. No
2. 1 was a no, so no need for that
3. No, it won't work.

For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode
Thank you SmG67....I checked my device with s1tool and found " SEMC SIMLOCK CERTFICATE " then forwarded to flash tool. But I faced an issue and my flashing halted. When I am connecting my phone it will detect and showing INFO : For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode ....then going to charging mode....Dont know whats the reason ? :crying:
For your info : I installed all x10,x8,x10 mini pro ADB drivers, fastboot drivers, Flashmode drivers etc. USB debugging is ON, unknown sources is enable......my flashtool version was 0.6.8.0 .

Our phone is 2010 device so don't worry about the mtp mode thingy
Your lfashing halted because you didn't unlock your bootloader yet.
Connect your phone to flashtool
Choose Únlock bootloader' in the plugins menu
Follow Instructions
Flash the kernel
You should be fine

[Q] Could someone help me for root and rom ?

Hi everyone
I know this site for months and I'm actively looking for rooting and adding a ROM on my X10. But I'm not english (I'm french) so I don't understand all the things on this site, and as far as I know, if something goes wrong, my X10i can be blocked.
So I'm asking for somebody who could lend me a hand (I'm not sure about the expression ) to have root access on my phone, and by the way if it's possible, install a rom (Android 2.2 or 2.3 and stable if possible) on it.
By the way, I'm on 2.1-update1 (dualtouch I suppose) my Baseband version is 2.1.54.
Thank you in advance

Here is a tool that will help you root and do everything for fixing the phone in case you mess up.

Guide to Flashtool:

If you have questions, feel free to keep asking.
Already have a question ^^
In the Flashtool Guide for n00bies, there is that point I suppose I have to follow :
1. ROOT ACCESS
To gain root acces it`s quite easy. Just have to do this:
1. On your phone check "debbuging mode" on Setting > Applications > Development
2. Plug you USB cable
3. Open your flashtool and click on Root box
4. Wait a few seconds and your phone will rebbot
5. Voilà
When I open flashtool, I can't press on the "Root" box. The only one activated is the "Flash" box. I unchecked and checked again the debugging mode. Did I miss something between point 2 and 3 ?
Oh and by the way, for the How To For Noobies, do I have to follow all the points one by one ? Or can I pass all, and immediately go on the "how to root and more ..." point (5th post) ?

Thank you Hemal for your rom
I'll tell you the informations anyways, we never know ... so, Baseband 2.1.54, Kernel 2.6.29, and Android Version 2.2.3 now thanks to Hemal, Achotjan, and others that helped me ^^
By the way, I've got a question, is it possible to have a dualboot or something like this, like Windows and Linux on the computer ?
If you have xRecovery installed you can boot into xRecovery mode....then from there, do a restore or backup.....or load other ROMs.
You could have several different ROMs.
For months I kept the stock ROM, eventually I just removed it and installed another ROM.

Wipe Cache Partition
Wipe Dalvick cache
Wipe Battery stat
04. INSTALL COUSTOM ZIP
05.REBOOT
dats all
but AS U KNW INSTALLING ACHOTJAN ROM U NEED TO DO INSTALL UPDATE ZIP..... NOT INSTALL CUSTOM ZIP
GOT IT......
Yeah but if I do a factory reset, etc, I'll lose the old rom, so how to keep both in a dualboot, without deleting everything ?
When you create a backup of the original/stock ROM, copy the file or folder off the phone onto your computer.
I went through rooting and installing a ROM here -
http://androidforums.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10/371128-xrecovery-wont-install.html
I hate to post from another site, but here is what I did:
Alright....I'm going through the steps again to update my phone. Then I am gonna head to a buddies and do his.
Let's see if I can get this right.
I am going to load BlueSparks.
So I goto Blue Sparks and download the zip....unzip the BlueSparks zip and then put it in a folder on the sdcard in /sdcard/xrecovery/backup/Blue_Sparks written exactly like that (or it will give a md5 mismatch)
unzip the contents there (the .img file and stuff)
I then download and install the [TOOL] [UPDATE 22/03/2011] Flashtool BETA version 0.2.9.1 - xda-developers . I run it....click root and flash the phone with Baseband 2.1.67
Then I restart the phone. I make sure debugging is checked and Unknown Sources are checked. I use Adao File Manager and go to /sdcard/xRecovery I run xRecovery0.3.apk and I click Install
Then I open xRecovery from the app menu...I click Install and it brings up a message from SuperUser asking for permission. I click Allow.
That didn't do it.
I reset phone to factory default.
Started x10 Tool....plugged phone back in after reset.....turned debugging back on....and Unknown Sources. I clicked APK Installer and chose the xRecovery0.3.apk and installed that. Then I clicked Root again at the top.
Then I unplugged the phone and restarted.
I tried in x10 Tool again...clicked Ask Root Perm and it prompted me on the phone to access using SuperUser....now in x10 Tool I can click on xRecovery Then went under x10 Tool menu at the top and chose Reboot in xRecovery mode.
Finally in xRecovery. Factory Reset....yes
Wipe Cache Partition
Then under Advanced, Wiped Dalvik and Wiped Battery Stats.
Then in xRecovery I have to chose Restore and point to that folder....then it restores the image.
Reboot after the couple minutes it takes to install.
And that's it. Done....upgraded and ROMd.

[Q] MiniCM7-2.1.6 & nAa-08 Kernel

Hi guys
After unlocking bootloader on my SE Xperia X10 Mini, I flashed nAa-08 kernel and then MiniCM7-2.1.6. During the installation, however, I noticed that the ROM requires nAa-07 kernel, while I flashed nAa-08. All was still fine, but I would like to know if there are any known problems or if I have to flash nAa-07 kernel

it should not have major problems but it would be much safer and faster if you used the same rom kernel with the latest MiniCM7-2.1.7.i bet you it wont let you down.
I used the latest nAa kernel with his latest MiniCM7-2.1.7 and its just off the hook(VERY FAST AND STABLE)- PERFECT !!!

I hope so, at least
Would it be better to reflash nAa-07 kernel for now?

The MiniCM installation guide states to flash the latest nAa kernel.
Newer kernels are usually better than older ones.
I doubt nAa would remove features with new kernel versions.

It's my first time that I try flashing. Moreover, I have SE X10 Mini for less than a month. I wanted to be sure I have done everything right

Exactly. I followed the instructions, but CMW Recovery was unable to find the nAa-07 kernel and suggest me to flash it. That's all.

First of all make sure you have downloaded evrything you need to begin the flashing.
{s1tool, msm7227,LATEST nAa kernel for x10 mini-NOT PRO,LATEST nAa MINICM7,Gapps-gb} THEY ARE ALL LISTED IN THE GUIDE.
1.Bootloader unlock is the forst step but you have to check that your phone can be safely bootloader unlocked. PLEASE HAVE A GOOD READ THROUGH THE GUIDE SO THAT YOU ARE SURE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225
rember to hit the thanks button if i helped you.

Yeah Thanks, all went well. Bootloader was unlocked, nAa-08 kernel was installed. MiniCM7, too.
I wanna just saying that (maybe) there is a minor bug in CWM Recovery. In fact, it doesn't recognise nAa-08 kernel.
Not so worrying...Please, try to understand me, i'm just a n00b

In that case, there are a few froyo-based roms (srom-froyo, froyobread) that include this particular module, don't know if those links are still working, try to search the x10mini development forum to find them

Do they require unlocking of bootloader .Actually I am afraid of this purpose. Is there any GB rom that can be flashed without unlocking bootloader on stock kernel 2.6.29 Thanks for Help.
You only need to unlock your bootloader if you need a custom kernel.
All the froyo roms run on the stock kernel, so they can be installed without unlocking the bootloader.
GB roms all run on a custom kernel (on the x10Mini), so you need to unlock the bootloader for that.
If you get S1Tool and post the output, i could probably provide you with some guidance on the safety of unlocking

Yeah !! in the output It shows SEMC something with capital R . Actually date is 10w29. Flashtool is big file and I have a slow connection... Smthng else for unlocking bootloader
it should say semc-simlock certificate, and 10w29 is ok too. you can get the manual scripts for unlocking the bootloader in a slightly smaller package, but the point about unlocking the bootloader is to install a custom kernel... you will need flashtool for that... lol.
I would say, try one of the froyo roms if they're still available, i'm pretty sure froyobread with the hotfix can be downloaded and they can be installed on the stock kernel. but then, those are big downloads too on a slow connection

Ok I am starting... Given 30 minutes to my wintage phone,
Thanks for paying attantion..
yupp its done ..XDA rocks B-)
You're welcome
Array. I've unlocked the bootloader and I have xrecovery on my phone. I also have put GB miniCM rom as update.zip on SD card
Now the problem is on GB thread it said that I should have naA kernel on my phone and on naA kernel thread it said that I should have GB custom rom. I have only unlocked the bootloader and still on stock rom and stock kernel.,
once again its ur turn to sort me out of this problem...
:-D
First you flash the nAa kernel using flashtool
Then flash the rom through cwm
Sent from my E10i using xda premium
Bro I have gone one step ahead and have installed cloclwordmod .. now I am flashing the naA kernel... But what after flashing the kernel if I start my phone do I have to first enter in CWM and flash new minicm7 rom or I can use this kernel on my stock rom 2.1
Go into CWM and install MiniCM, stock will not boot on the nAa kernel.

Cant you enter into flashmode????
Question
Need More details:
1)Locked or Unlocked Bootloader?
2)Which stock kernel you flashed? Downloaded from?
3)[If Locked Bootloader] Can you enter xrecovery? If can, make full wipe, clear cache partition, install new ROM via "install custom zip from SDcard.
4)[If Unlocked Bootloader] Try flash some custom Kernel for Unlocked bootloader like DooMKernel, see whether it reach recovery mode or not.
Sincerely,
whitefang
If can, pls kindly hit thanks button as an appreciation

if you want 2.2, all the roms based on 2.2 will work on stock kernel, so you don't need to unlock the bootloader, just hope the download links still work.
If you want 2.3, go to the MiniCM7 thread, the last version to run on stock kernel is 2.0.7, which can still be downloaded from the dev's repository, there is a link in his first post where you can find it.
Any later versions are all based on a custom kernel, so you won't have any luck with those.
Good luck
can u give me the link for 2.2 n also for 2.3.....
& tell me all bugz r removed...........
thanxx for your support....
I posted similar questions the other day on here trying to update my x10 mini pro to 2.3 which I got resolved.
My post towards the bottom tells how I got my phone updated without having to unlock the bootloader and only took about 20 minutes and since installing that rom other roms that don't require an unlocked bootloader are simple to install now and take a matter of minutes to install through cwm recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823973
dude that post is for pro not for mini......
if any dev have link so...plezz give it 2 me i wan't 2.3....full working in my xperia without any bugzz
thanxx 4 your support
Do you have your phone rooted and clockworkmod installed?
If not you will need that done.
Use super1click to root your phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Then install cwmrecovery for x10 mini http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513534
Then you should be able to install roms that don't require an unlocked bootloader using cwm recovery, booting into it by pressing the back key repeatedly when the white sony ericsson logo text comes up. You need to copy rom to your sd card and once in cwm recovery back up your current rom and then install a new rom.
bro.....i wan't 2.3......if dere any link for 2.3...with unlocking bootloader
plezz provide me
i would be thankfull 2 u....

I
Is your phone rooted and do you have clockworkmod recovery installed?
If not you will have to root your phone and install clockworkmod recovery - I had some problems getting clockworkmod recovery installed on my 2.1 stock rom but the link I put in my previous post installed it without any problems.
Once rooted and clockworkmod recovery installed these roms will install through clockworkmod recovery without the need to unlock your bootloader

This is the last version of MiniCM7 (GB 2.3.5) which will still run on stock kernel on the E10i.
There is not much else, but it's fairly bug-free as far as i can tell from personal experience.
I think you can do that by going on your Settings Menu.
can u explain ......
