Buzzing Earpice - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Anyone having a buzzing sound in their earpiece? Sounds like the little metallic screen is buzzing away when someone is speaking and the louder the volume as they talk the louder the vibrating noise is. Just wondering is anyone else has the issue.
EDIT:
Just checked again with a phone call and by applying pressure to the area of the earpiece speaker makes the buzzing go away. Now the wife is pissed because this is her mother's day present to shut her up from complaining about her OG Evo..... damn the luck, lots of complaining ahead now.... hahahaha.... oh well....

Not I. I just had one of the clearest sounding phone calls I've ever had on a cell phone.

I do agree though, when I apply pressure it does have a nice sounding call quality. Makes me want to give up my SE4GT.... what a killer screen!

I have made quite a few calls with mine already and they have been clear as can be, I am completely impressed. Is it like that on every call or intermittently? Perhaps if it was just one call, maybe it was the other persons phone and not yours.

Unfortunately each call we tested has been this way. She said it happened all day when she tried it as well. hmmmmm.....

Got my replacement phone today and of course it has a phone speaker that constantly buzzes regardless of volume. Go figure, I can't win with this phone!
Going to take it into a Sprint store tomorrow to see if they can repair it otherwise I am going to demand a new phone since I know they will have them in stock with the Saturday launch.

It's crystal clear... Until you drop signal from the Sprint tower, lol. Not docking the phone. Sprint service has gone down hill over the past few years

On my 3rd 3D and it needs to go back!

First 3D... had major screen tilt, it cut off the top right corner.
Second 3D... camera button didn't work.
Third 3D (current)... the speaker is busted. It crackles, pops, rattles. I can't have the ringer volume set high otherwise it cracks.
WHAT THE HECK! I am so pissed right now, this one was perfection until I got a phone call and heard how horrible the speaker was. The reps at my Sprint store weren't too happy when they did the exchange for my third one. I'm sure they're not going to be happy to see me again tomorrow.

I noticed it from the beginning, but it didn't really bother me until I started reading about it.
The one I have now, the screen is perfect which makes this so screwy.

Best bet is return it reactivate your older phone wait a day start fresh buy another from different store or through telasales.

yea I haven't had one issues with my 3D....I had it since day one....I notice a lot of people complaining about problems....I honestly believe 80% of it comes from user error (remember you cannot use class 2 cards with this device...it's mean to read/write to a faster card starting with class 4's...hence the reason why it comes with a freakin CLASS 4!)
A button that does nothing... a blown speaker... screens that aren't properly installed ARE not user error.
HTC skimped on quality control and people are stuck wasting their time dealing with it.

Didn't say your issues were caused by user error just saying in general. You my friend just have some s*** luck lol
My first one had dust under the camera lens (and I mean *camera*, as in the actual component soldered to the board, not just in the bezel thing) and a broken vibrator motor. It made a grinding, crackling noise, and had been getting weaker. I went to the Sprint store (where I bought it) today to exchange it and it was such an ordeal, the manger had to come over and make a big thing, saying how it was cosmetic and "every vibrator has a unique feel". I insisted I was within my 30 days and wanted an exchange, and she begrudgingly agreed, and then said "You can only exchange it once, are you sure you want to use up your one and only exchange?" No doubt they have that 1x exchange policy because they got tired of getting stuck with HTC's effing CRAP quality control, and now just want the customer to suck it up.
I'm on my second one, and it has a crooked screen.
return it. period. im on my 4th and hoping it stays this way.
there are quality control issues with most manufacturers....look at Samsung and the piece of s*** Epic lol
by and large, most people aren't going to notice a lot of the nit picky **** you guys return stuff for anyways
You should always inspect your phone for a good 20-30 minutes before you leave the store with it, you should be able to notice that kind of stuff, but people are lazy
If there's anything wrong with the phone then they need to replace it. Bottom line. I'm not talking nit picky stuff, but obvious defects. Speaker blown, vibrator defect, etc.
That's bull that they were fighting you on that

[Q] Buzzing ear speaker?

Has anyone had any issues with the ear speaker used in calls? I've noticed that a lot of the time there's a slight buzzing, especially with the higher frequencies. The ring tone when calling out is a prime example. It doesn't happen every time, but most of it. Not sure if it's an inherent floor with the phone or a problem with my handset?
Not yet had it a week, so will return it if it's a handset issue, but if they all do it not sure there's any point.
Also noticed that the trim around the micro usb port is not well secured - pulling out the cable can pull off the trim surround. I've glued it in now, but a poor piece of design by HTC.
All that said, it's a cracking phone, if a little large. Screen is fantastic, and so responsive.

Nobody else having this issue? Just about to contact handtec to get a replacement.
I spoke to HTC and they're not aware of it as a generic fault with the product, so hopefully just a faulty handset. Have requested an RMA with handtec to will report back.
I do get a sound when i change song but nothing like that.

On it's way back to handtec today, so hopefully will have a replacement some time next week that doesn't buzz!
Just to update, got a replacement handset today, and no buzzing coming from the earpiece, so happy days!
Have to say, after going back to my HD7 for the weekend, I'm so glad to get the Titan back - it may be a bit on the big side, but it's a fantastic phone.

This may be the same as the "pop" that has been reported on Focus S handsets. It appears to be Mango-related. Not good when plugged into a system with some power, and/or a subwoofer.
Does the sound dc spike (pop), occur if the volume is set below max (i.e, 25/30)?

I haven't had chance to use it often, but it seems like the sound that comes off the speakers when you've maxed out the volume on ordinary phones. It's not ringing but that annoying vibrating sort of noisy feeling when it rings etc.+ it's not all the time though.

How is the LGOG as a phone?

I've read all the goodies on how fast the phone is and what not, but I'm wondering how well it performs as a phone? Does it pull in a signal well? Is it able to make calls where other phones couldn't, or drops calls where other phones would hold? For reference, I'm coming from an Atrix 4G
So far so great

I had read some of the same reviews where they said the phone was less than stellar from a call quality pov on ATT. I've had this a week and all the calls I have made sound perfectly fine. I think it really depends on the signal quality from ATT. The background noise suppression works really well in my car while on bluetooth - my wife really noticed how much easier it was to hear me (coming from a Captivate).

I've had the phone for just over 2 weeks. I too came from the atrix 4G. Call quality is completely standard, nothing to write home about but compared to the atrix I get a much stronger signal in locations where it was previously spotty and I haven't had any dropped calls yet.
Speakerphone on mine is absurdly loud.. to the point of almost being useless indoors. Even at the lowest volume.

Yeah and it gets worse the smaller the room is. Worse is probably a bad word for it. I think it just need a little fine tuning.
Call quality is not great and speaker is not loud enough. I have an iphone 5 and Lumia 920 as well, the Lumia has the best call quality of all the three and Optimus G is the worst.
I dunno call quality is fine on mine. No better or worse then my last couple phones.

I found the same thing when the phone isn't on my desk facing up. I think they did this because the speaker is severely hampered when face up on a flat surface. So to combat this, they upped the volume to compensate.
Coming from a gs2, signal stregnth is not only faster but stronger too. Didn't make any long enough phonecalls to judge audio quality but I know from playing videos that the external speaker is kind of weak

I ended up getting one on Saturday. My experiences are it's been just fine. It holds calls where I'd expect. Things sound fine on my end and haven't really heard any complaints from the person I'm talking to.
I think it works fine, as good or better than the inspire. I'm rooted and unlocked and have used volume plus for years, and at plus 10 its pretty loud. Speakerphone is very loud. I'm impressed with the volume its capable of pushing when it's not constrained by "hearing protection" limitations, although I look forward to aosp so I can figure out how to lower the minimum speaker phone volume and vastly increase the resolution of the phone volume selection

I came from an inspire as well and I feel that this a huge upgrade, not just a better version. My inspire was rooted and running viper Rom and as soon as I got this phone I found myself getting annoyed by how slow the inspire felt. It was there years old so I do give it some credit, but the lgog is just such a great phone all around. I'd get it over any other phone, especially if Amazon still has it listed as 99.99 because any best buy will match it.

Earpiece Distortion on Note 2

During phone calls, I am getting some distortion or slight background hissing sound on the earpiece when volume is set to around medium. Anyone else getting some distortions or annoying slight background sounds like cellular noise???? I can't replicate the issue when I use another phone other than my Note 2. I really like this phone but the earpiece just does not produce clear sounds. There is definitely slight hissing/buzzing that can be heard when using the phone in quiet places.
I have not experienced the hissing/buzzing but calls do not sound as clear compared to my s3.
I haven't had any issues with mine either.

Yup, same thing on mine. It's not bad, but it is noticeable.
Ive head a bit of crackling a couple of times but once I turned down the volume slightly its not there.
I had mine cranked to the max and then pushed the button for even more volume. No distortion.

I immediately noticed the same problem with my Note 2 last night. VZW sent out a replacement today.
Bummer, since the phone isn't rooted yet, it took me a while to set up the phone and install apps...what a pain without Titanium. Also wasted a SGP screen protector. But the earpiece noise was definitely noticeable, especially since my S3 sounds perfect.

Same crackly static/distortion on my earpiece. Looks like ill be calling Verizon as well. Wasted a Zagg on this too.

I'm getting a distortion/buzz as well. Only appears to be when the earpiece is producing sounds (not all the time) which still very noticible and annoying. I stopped on to see if other people were having the same issue because I had my family and gf vet the problem and they said I was "too sensitive" :silly:
Thanks for posting this, will try swapped hardware this week - otherwise device is excellent!

That sounds like it may be a different problem. As I am experience and read from others the distortion or fuzz is from the built-in earpiece of the device. I have tried to replicate the issue with other outputs (speakerphone, BT earpiece, wired earpiece) and none of my other output attempts have had the issues at all.
If you are experiencing distortion through BT connection only I would look to your BT earpiece or surrounding environment (although less likely).

Could someone please elaborate on the hissing? I have an issue with mine where when someone finishes a sentence talking it becomes sort of static-ey. It doesn't happen all the time.

Well, basically what I experienced was when a person spoke you could hear a short of static type noise with each syllable they spoke. It didn't happen all the time and was worse when talking to Verizon customer support, although that may be because the note 2 can sense evil. My third one seems to have done the trick. I have had since Friday and no issues. I can say as someone mentioned already that the call clarity is not as good as the s3, but I don't care as I love the phone enough. This is only when talking on the phone as mentioned as well. Not through an earpiece.
My Note 2 killed your phone.

Coming from another manufacturer and another carrier (Orig Evo, Sprint) can you clarify the "call quality" comments?
I'm fully on-board with the fuzz/hiss/static that happens when the other person is speaking and I'm working to switch mine out and rectify that issue but I've read a number of places that the quality is lesser than the S3 - how so? Hardware specific from S3 to GN2 or a VZW issue?
Thanks,
e
The issue is too much volume coming out of these satellites. They can't handle the maximum output, neither the speaker or the earpiece.
From what I can tell this is not a defect issue but the way it is. Replacing phones, especially this early into the production cycle, would be a waste of time for both parties.

Same issue here. It's like I'm getting muted for a second when talking.
Just throwing this out there, and it might not apply at all, but are you sure your fingers aren't covering up the mic when you're on a call? The Note II that I have has a mic vent right near where I normally place my finger and I was muting myself a lot when I first got the device.
My pinky finger was the culprit.
No mic issue here, but you may want to talk it back to T-Mobile and ask for a replacement

Same here, mine just doesn't work fine in any position, i called t-mo and the rep told me they can't replace it yet as they don't have the "send a replacement" option on the system, i'll go to a store tomorrow to try some luck if not i'll wait a few days and call again.
I've just had complaints while laying down... hold the phone in the exact same position hand-to-head, but laying down I am told I sound far away, standing I sound normal. I made sure not to cover either mic. I never had any such problems with any phone before.
So are any of you covering the hole in the BACK of the phone?? This is a wonderful noise monitoring sensor that will increase or decrease Mic and call volume depending on what it hears. This is mist likely the case for when it is against your shoulder and cheek. I'd check to make sure you're not covering it up.

So i called t-mo and spoke to several reps and they all told me that they don't have the form to send a replacement for this phone yet, i also went to 2 t-mo stores and no luck.I called htc directly and they can't replace the form they can only issue repair tickets which can take 2-3 weeks so no thx, so i just went ahead and unlocked the device and tried several roms and kernels from the international device and no luck, it seems to mic lowers itself when you move the device or something.. so frustrating.

maybe a case would help?
A case may help to lift fingers and other hand parts away from the microphone, as a long-term solution for non-hardware-related problems.
I noticed muffled call quality as well and think it might be a defect. I noticed an issue also when I tried testing out the video quality and recorded a song playing from my stereo system. After recording it, I noticed almost all of the sound was on the left channel, and the right channel was almost non-existent. I uploaded the video to my computer to hear it and noticed the same issue - the left earphone was loud and clear, the right was very quiet.
EDIT: It's definitely an issue with the bottom microphone. When I cover the back speaker, the video's sound is almost gone. When I cover the bottom speaker (right channel), there isn't much of a difference at all.
Have any of you tried making a video recording with audio and also noticed this issue?
