Polaris office on S3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does any one know how to download polaris office on S3 ?
The phone only has the viewer and asks to download the editor. Where and how can I get it ?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA

The phone should have the full Polaris, no?
According to gsmarena.com: "You can view and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents and there's a PDF viewer to boot. Editing on the large 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display is a breeze and covers an almost full set of options - text style, justification, paragraph formatting, bullets, even creating tables (that's a first). If you're editing an Excel file, you get a formula wizard, resize rows/columns, border style, merge cells and so on. Even full-featured PowerPoint presentations are doable."
Are you sure it's just a viewer? I'm going to be a very sad panda if it turns out there's only a viewer on my phone. The inclusion of a full office editing suite was a big selling point for me...

Damn Sure

Oh noes! Catastrophy!
I got my shiny new SGS3 in my hand, and there is no Polaris Office on it, and it's not available in Samsung Apps for me either!

It looks like you can open and edit existing files but you can't access the Polaris Office suite directly to create new files.
That's what it seems like on my gs3 anyway!

It is the viewer-only version. I can't edit files on my SGS3.

See if you can find the Polaris apk on the SGS2 forum and try that .

Has anyone managed to get the full version of Polaris ?

polaris office full
I have tried using the polaris office from the s2 including coying across libpolarisoffice.so and I get an error "this is a model which the library does not support"
hmmm

Have DL the trial version but can't get it to work on the S740 (except for Excel which passes). Apparently, they support the S710 only
Anything else?
I tried on S740 and it worked well.. but the weird thing is i cant seem to install it on the storage card.
That's interesting; how did you do it? Above all, how do you handle the split screen in keyboard mode?
Which version did you use?
The version i used was 3.0010.
What do you mean by splitscreen in keyboard mode ?
When I go to keyboard mode, I get a screen that is split in two

I don't see that.. its working perfectly on my device.
May be there is a difference because my phone is the German language version

With Office Mobile (Word, Excel), you can create new docs, edit...
On pc, create empty word document, copy it to device and open with Word Mobile. Then right soft-key and chose EDIT... If you are done, right soft-key, File-Save As... Write name of doc and save. Thats all.
I know all that, korenisko; and that's not the issue.
The problem is that the functionality of Office Mobile for non-touchscreens is laughable; the most rudimentary functions, such as cut & paste are not possible.

[Q] QuickOffice on the Streak

I am in desperate need of a good efficient Microsoft compatible office program on my Streak. QuickOffice came preinstalled, but I cannot seem to upgrade to the full version (so it only reads pdfs). Also when I press the buy now button on their website, it pulls up marketplace and says it was not found. I have a support ticket open on their site, but so far no useful responses.
Is anyone else having this problem? Or can anyone recommend a program for reading word and excel (and maybe powerpoint)?
Another bizarre thing is that a developer (who I sent a message to saying the Streak does not display their app right) came back saying "due
to it's irregular screen size the graphics for the game don't quite fit". 800x480 is not irregular. Maybe the screen does have a higher resolution which is being scaled down like fards mentioned.
Company in Question: http://www.quickoffice.com/
.
Have you looked at documents to go?
Also I think the screen size is down to the dpi, they are using 160 dpi on the streak, don't think that's too common.
Well i had a good look around the tinternet for you and have to say there is not much out there office wise for the android
Like fards said documents to go is one but it says will not support office 2010 so from what i can see the one we have Quick office seems to be the best
Now i went to the marketplace found the quick office clicked buy now and it took me to the google checkout did you get that far ?
I reckon Quick Office, without copy & paste, is pretty redundant, that's a big & basic hole for a document editor, if it was the only option then I guess it'd still buy it and pray for an update!
Hi Fards, I'm about to purchase documents to go, I didn't know it existed for Android. I need it for creating and editing word and excel documents and then emailing them, do you use it, and are you happy with it for those basic tasks?
Regards,
Matt
Thanks for the feedback. It just seems like QuickOffice is the best solution currently out.
For the time being I may go with Documents To Go, thanks for the suggestion fards
@lufc
I cannot find it in the marketplace. Likewise, when I use my barcode reader from their website it says the app cannot be found. The same happens when I press the buy now button on the web page from my Android phone.
My Dell Streak is running Android 1.6 build 3562
Still no response from QuickOffice support.

I have a need for spreadsheet on the Streak and I compared the lite trial versions of both Documents To Go and QuickOffice. I decided that Documents To Go was much better.
Now that I have it I am blown away by its pdf capabilities whereby it word wraps the text so goodbye to terminable side to side scrolling. Amazing.
Having registered my intention to try it out, DataViz offered me the suite for $9.99 which is cheap enough so that I don’t need to compromise my ethics over it. You could say at that price it is a steal anyway - pun intended.
I use the paid for version of Docs to go and it really is good. I have used the word to go to amend work docs on the move and this week discovered the powerpoint viewer was very useful in outline mode as I could access all the notes straight from that view, which was helpful in my meeting as it also means less scrolling
Tbh I haven't used docs to go since my palm days many many years ago, but I was looking at it just before you posted The question.
I can't stand pirated software, especially when he developers work so hard and charge so little for their android stuff.

Although I am a software conterfitting whore for Windows, I do indeed support Android and their developers apps. Plus at such a minimal cost, it is entirely worth it.
Bad news though, I downloaded the Documents to Go shown in my markerplace and when I opened it to press 'buy key' it brings me to the search result for Documents to Go, but does not show the full version
Looks like a may be installing an illegal version after all... Or maybe after I root my phone to a newer build it will be resolved.

I bought it direct from the website using my full win7 computer. This was in response to an email from DataViz as follows:-
"Thank you for registering our Documents To Go 2.0 "Viewer" for your Android-based device. The free Viewer version allows you to view Microsoft Word and Excel files and attachments on your device.
We are excited to offer you a special price, direct from DataViz only, on our Documents To Go Full version upgrade. "
That mail contained a link and I followed my nose from there.
Maybe best to wait for DataViz to respond to your registration after you download and install the Viewer only version?
QuickOffice updated my support ticket saying they updated the installer and to look again.
Now fully functional, purchased the app with no problems
I got an offer email through today as well do bought it, much prefer the pdf reader to the adobe one. worth the 9.99 usd for that, the amount of emails I get with pdfs in..
I used quick office and docs to go on the iphone, docs to go was better. However all the features are not on the android version and I have found the quick office version better and functionality rich (although far from perfect). The main features that made it better was the google docs integration

I use the purchased ver. of Doc.'s to go on my EVO and just purchased it again for my Streak. I use the PDF viewer a lot. One of the things you can do with the pdf viewer is go to a restaurant's web site, download their nutrition info.. Then next time you wonder how may fat calories the super sized Whopper has, you will have it at your finger tips. You can also make color coded pdf/excell doc's on a pc then email them to your streak. Open them with doc's to go and you are all set.
I discovered today that you can't open encrypted files in QuickOffice, but Docs to go (the full version at least) had no problem with it!
When I say 'encrypted' I use it in the sense that MS office uses it - you put a password on a file and save it.

Quick office will not install
Hey guys. Like it says, I can't get it to install.
I'm running StreakDroid 1.9 and Steve has HD installed as a system app so I upgraded to the full version so I could create documents and it wouldn't install.
So I deleted it from /system/apps/ and bought QuickOffice Pro and couldn't get it to install either....
any ideas?
I've wiped the cache and dalvik cache just in case and that didn't help either

Microsoft Office viewing and editing

Hi All. I know this is more related to Android but after your thoughts on programs to view and edit office documents, in particularly excel.
I've recently looked at Office 365 but unsure how well it works on Android and a 1280x800 screen, also not sure how much data it will suck when hotspotted with my phone.
Polaris office came stock on my galaxy s2 and find that not to be overly feature full, nor are any of the others from my understanding, in particular excel.
Yeh I know the Prime is not a laptop or desktop replacement but I would probably use it for the odd bit of work if it had something better than Polaris Office.
Quickoffice Pro HD or Documents to Go
Both handle office 2010 files
Thanks for the reply.
But I realise there are many that handle office 2010 files, with none that completely stand out are more personal preference, but they aren't exactly fully functional. Polaris is meant to be reasonable but I found it is no where near deep in functionality. For example, I have found Excel is not useful for anything but very basic spreadsheets.
But Office 365 is meant to be fully functional, but cloud based, and searching didn't say how well it worked on an android tablet
One thing I've always found really helpful is Google Documents. You can create, edit and share documents in it.
Write it in Google Docs, edit it on your computer before sending it. As an online college student, it has made my life a whole lot easier. It's free as well so it's worth checking out
**edit**
I forgot to mention that you can create on a phone but download onto a computer where you can add your specific formatting later. This means you don't necessarily have to have a full featured office package on your phone as long as your computer has interwebz and can get to gDocs.
Cheers. I'll give it a go on my galaxy s2 while I wait patiently for the asus prime
I knew about google docs but not really looked at it much.

Also remember that the tablet version of quickoffice pro hd is tablet exclusive and have a different UI and more advanced functions than the phone based quickoffice pro.
As you said, none of the android specific office suites are full featured, but I think that they're getting closer. Also, they do provide functionality that most users would think is complete. It'll be a long time before you see pivot tables and odbc hooks in tablet office suites.
I found this.

Looks like it works pretty well... I don't have or use it but I figure you could try it out and see if it does the trick.

The ultimate Office App

Does anyone of you use your Transformer Pad for writing documents? I would do so if I would find a good office app. But unfortionally I can't find one. When I'm at home I use CloudOn, because it's nearly the same as Microsoft Office and does not mess up my documents. The problem is that I want to use my Transformer for writing when I'm in school. But I don't have a wifi connection there. Therefore I search for the ultimate Office App which works without internet and does not mess up my Office 2010 documents. Any recommendations?
Hi, have you tried Polaris Office? It does word, excel & powerpoint
here is a thread with download link

Cloud on? Is it for Linux?

I tried it out but it does not seem to install. Can't flash the. zip. Maybe there is a problem with the other version which comes provided with CleanRom 3.1? Is there also version 4.0 out there for our Pad?
Edit: OK, same problem as with any other app i`ve tried. Polaris does not seem to stick to my custom font layout. I like to keep my text very compact which seems to be the problem. If I open up my documents with Polaris they are larger (one or more pages longer). So I need an office alternative which is as close to Microsoft Office as possible.
Cloud On is a cloud based office solution but does only work with cloud services (eg. Drop box,Google drive, box, etc.) I highly recommend it when you need to work at home
Is there an alternative to Polaris?
Ok tried to install lastest Polaris Office v4.0.3212.13, would not install. then tried v4.0.3210.07, it installed but kepts force closing.
I running Energy Rom by NRGZ28.
The only alternative I have tried is Kingsoft Office from the play store, seems pretty good and is free.
Kingsoft Office doesn't do the job for me either :/ No advanced settings for fonts or any other fonts. I also tried OfficeSuite Pro. But same result here. All of the apps are not capable to align my text correctly. I think I'll need to wait for the official Microsoft Office or the new Polaris.
Btw. I found my problem. It seems like all the apps don't support the settings of Office 2010 which I have currently in use. However, if I save my files in the older format (Word 97 - 2003) all apps seem to work just fine. But I go with Polaris for now Thanks again ;D:fingers-crossed:
EDIT: I was WRONG! All of them screw up... I just didn't notice that when I either save it in the new or the old format my text is simply wrong. My testdocument is 6 Pages long. But all of the apps align it to 7.
Any ideas on how to fix that? Maybe the different resolutions of my desktop and the tablet are the problem...
Mabye Microsoft Office on your tab
Hi, just thought of a way to maybe get MS Office running on android tab.
There are Linux Installer apps on the play store which allow you to install linux distro's on android, you could then install MS Office on linux using something like 'playonlinux' or 'wine'. Not sure if this would work but will give it a go over the weekend and let you know. If anyone has already tried this can you tell how it went.

AW: The ultimate Office App
The best office suite for Android is made by Softmaker. The word processor is called Ofice2012:textmaker and is a port from the Softmaker office for Windows and Linux. There is also an app for spreadsheets and a presentation app. In comparison to polarised office you get a well designed office suite with good import filters for MS docx or xlsx files.
For a comparison between different android office apps go to Softmaker website. We (can't paste URL)
It was well reviewed by the German Computer magazine C't.
However, I this quality comes with a price tag. You pay around €28 for the whole package. Money well invested

Is there an Office Suite for Tablet that lets you open multiple documents at once?

I am looking for an office suite app for android tablet that lets you open multiple documents at once, with tabs, so that I can switch between them.
I thought Kingsoft Office is supposed to do that because I read a review from PCWorld, and it said just like desktop version, it can switch between open documents with tabs. BUT I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DO IT. I think the review is false. I have been trying to figure out how to open multiple documents with Kingsoft for HOURS, and can't figure out. I have a Galaxy tab 10.1 original with ICS.
So if I'm correct and Kingsoft does not have this feature, do you guys know any office suite app that lets you open multiple docs at once? Doesn't have to be free. I just need a decent one that have this feature. I only need it for viewing docs anyway.
Thanks a lot for your help!

I did that but i cant find a way to open multiple docs and switch between them by tab interface. PCWorld review speifically says that they are impressed by tge feature just like on desktop, but i have no idea what theyre talking about..
The link for the review below
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2555..._document_editing_to_your_mobile_devices.html
And quoting the section im talking about
" I'm particularly impressed by Kingsoft Office's interface. Like the desktop version, it employs tabs for easy switching between multiple open documents. And it just plain looks nice (see below), especially on a tablet, which is where an app like this makes the most sense."
If kingsoft doesnt actually offer this feature, im interested in other office app as well..
