click photos during video recording is on? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does any one has any idea whether we can click photos while the video recording is going on in galaxy s2's samsung stock rom ICS - XXLPQ?
if not is there any other in which we can do this?

I think that you can use the "screencast" app..
Sent from my hybrid SII with the power of ParanoidAndroid and Fluxi kernel

if i am to understand the question correctly (which i am not entirely sure of), the op talks about taking photos during video recording with the camera, which would mean, screencast has absolutely nothing to do with it.
also this exact same question was asked earlier today already and there the answer was that lgcamera from the play store could do it and also some custom roms (aokp/aosp) support it. but in general that is a hardware feature best experienced with a device that supports it, like the galaxy nexus or the sgs3.

Galaxsy S i9000 also got this feature with a recent Value-added pack upgrade.

as i said, you can emulate this feature through the right software, just like samsung did with the i9000 or one can do with lgcamera on the i9100, but it is not the real deal. please don't ask me to explain, as i can't, but you can look it up what the differences are between the software version and the hardware version, supported, as stated before, on the galaxy nexus or s3.
apparently, it has something to do with their zero shutter lag or something about the continuous auto focus or whatever. both of those would be hardware features that aid this feature and can of course not be implemented through 3rd party software.
oh, and by the way, i really hope, eventually the s2 will get a value pack as well with some s3 features.

[Q] [Camera S2] Manual shutter speed or Exposure lock (AE lock)?

My hobby is photography and I like doing panorama photos by stitching 5+ normal photos to one panorama. Without manual shutter speed or exposure lock on the camera, I can't do that...
My question is - Is there a way for this on Samsung Galaxy S2?
Sorry but photography on a smartphone camera? Really?
There is a panorama shooting mode in the camera app...

Why be a ****, just ****ing help him. There's a panorama option in the camera app.

AFAIK there is no option for manual shutter control. And for panorama, it's there in the camera settings.

Sorry if I'm being a "****", but I agree with him. Phones are not for this. If your hobby is really photography, you don't do it with a phone, unless you're a hipster, or you can't afford a good camera. Yes, when you need a quick pic, it's okay, but that's not the real thing :/
Also, ICS should have nice panorama feature, let's just wait for it.
Hello again
I have DSLR, but I'm not that much into photography to bring it everywhere with me...
Here is some samples with my old phones (first from Sony Ericsson K770 3,2MP, others from Samsung Omnia 5MP)
I try the panorama on Galaxy S2 (also other panorama programs), but they DON'T have AE lock, and stitching its not good (for example, try do panorama in dark room with one bright window...)
So, is there hope for some software developing on Android, maybe for ICS?
Hello again, just want to say that I found some kind of solution, if someone other than me is interested
Fast Burst Camera app (in beta for now) have some AE lock and I can take photos for panorama, thats GREAT, but the app can take max resolution of 800x600 ...
Also if there is other program... PLEASE let me know about it, I'm interested in paying for it
no need to pay, use fireworks mode,
stock cam app extends shutter speed to 1 second.
here's my sample

Hello again
I've found the perfect camera APP and its called Camera FV-5 !
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.pro&feature=search_result
V1.1 supports AE-L (AutoExposure-Lock), but only for ICS devices. However, it's not working on custom ROM's, that's what the developer of the program say'd to me, when I ask him "why does AE-L not working with me". I'm ont Lite'ning V2.6 ROM (ICS 4.0.3 based).
The developer say'd that this future works only ot original ICS releases (for now), it has to do something with the camera driver/apk (I don't understand that much)
Could I flash from somewhere original ICS base on this ROM, the only thing I want is to work AE-L on my phone

I found out how to lock the focus (it's the last option in the Focus menu), but how do you lock the Aperture?
Also, I tried the Exposure Bracketing and took 7 shots, would anyone recommend a free software to make an HDR picture out of these?

good/expensive equipment might give you clearer pictures with higher pixels but it is also not wrong for anyone (including photographers) to use their smart phones for photography, as the matter of fact capturing photos at the right moment is the most important factor of all.
many of my photographer friends enjoy the photo taking capability with today's smart phones for several reasons: 1. it's very handy because people carry their phone on them all the time. 2. Easy-Quick to use 3.picture quality is good enough in most cases.

Yeah, I've submitted two threads about this (one here, one at Androidcentral) to see if anyone knew where I could get it. Of course, I had my Note earlier than most people so it was a bit premature and the threads got buried. I really want the Video maker app. It looks like iMovie.
Theres a thread about the video app on here already, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1496452 Unfortunately the .apk doesn't work

Funny you say that, you think Samsung is worried about additional legal battles with the litigious Apple if they include this Movie Maker app in the US market (like the physical home button issue)?
I'd appreciate a better understanding of the rationale behind all these differences between the SGNote models.
I'd heard a rumor that this missing Movie Maker app as well as missing screen mode may not run well on the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 hardware hence they were removed but the rumor remains totally uncorroborated..

I'd decided to wait at least until after MWC next week before deciding on any SGNote-upgrade..otherwise I'd try that "TrimApp.apk" & report back to the forum how well the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Video Maker works on the AT&T Galaxy Note I717..
I would LOVE to adjust the display settings, the colors need to come way down. Most people love that colors POP but being oversaturated is such a turn off for me. I didnt even know you could adjust on any phone
I WANT THIS FEATURE!
It could have been an issue with the different processor/GPU in the LTE version versus the International. Maybe they could get the apps to play nice with their own internals but couldn't get them to work right with Qualcomm's?

I agree. Some colors, like the cnn.com red header seem over saturated and neon.
But I still love my Note. Setting up my old iPhone4 for my daughter as an iPod and the screen was soooo small. I felt like a toy. No way I could go back.

Disappointing, that Video maker app for the SGNote added an easy mobile way for some mediated / augmented reality post video editing with the S-Pen.. another reason to get the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000 if you can live without LTE & can afford paying the unsubsidized but contractless price.
Please let us know if anyone gets it working on AT&T Galaxy Note I717 .. -Thnx

Well the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000 has it now, not sure if the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 will get ever get it.
When I checked out the SGNote in an AT&T store on its release date the Samsung rep was there & I asked him where screen mode & the Video Maker app were & he sadly did not know what I was talking about but I was hoping XDA could get it working from the N7000 but perhaps it's incompatible with the I717 hardware.
I told him I was going to wait at least until after MWC before deciding on my upgrade & I mentioned Samsung should also announce the Galaxy Note 10.1 there which he acknowledged but said he will not get to play with the 10.1 until he is there next week & he said he's had the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 for over a month.
I'd started a thread back in December regarding SAMOLED's unnatural colors vs IPS' more natural colors & while I of course would also like to have screen mode options like I do on my Samsung TVs , it didn't seem to bother me on the SGNote higher res screen like it does on lower res SAMOLED but I'll have to check it out again.
I'm eager to hear about MWC news & the Samsung Galaxy III & even curious about what Ubuntu will present as many Android devices could more easily become full desktop functional PCs when wanted as well.
I just tried to install the VideoEditor apk on my rooted note and the installation failed... I hope someone finds a way to install it on our Notes...
Samsung confirms its absence is due to chipset incompatabilites:

Can anyone recommend a comparable app?

[Q] Can we take pictures while recording video???

I've read that the original Galaxy S & Galaxy Tab have received "Value Update", to their firmware. This means that they aren't going to receive ICS, but gained ICS features. Both can now take pictures while recording video, so my questions is why can't we yet. Or am I not doing the correct thing by pressing the screen while recording video??? I don't think it is good practice on Samsung's part to allow this feature on older hardware, but not their more powerful dual-core devices....unless it's just not possible due to our camera hardware.
Anyone have any insight on this?
no not in sgs2, yup the value added pack for sgs1 has it...
I knew that already......my question is why???

[Q] Camera and custom ROMs

Let's face it, the Galaxy S3 has a SWEET camera, only rivaled by the One X and iPhone 5. From what I understand, this has a lot to do with the software Samsung has in place to control the camera. Similarly, this is why many people have complained about the Nexus cameras. Google hasn't exactly invested too much time in the camera software.
I would like to install a custom ROM, but I am concerned that in doing so, the camera will be adversely affected because I would lose Samsung's camera software. Is this the case? Or are there any custom ROMs that utilize Samsung's camera software?
Most of the custom stock based roms are just that Samsung based .

Excellent! So, I've been looking at the Android Revolution HD 16.0 ROM. I'd like to know what people's opinion is regarding this ROM.
Reading the thread might be a better idea I used it like 2 months ago (v11 if I recall correctly) and it was excellent. Might have improved since then, so reading the thread will give you more info, feedback, etc.

Question Any gimbal working with Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra?

I wanted to buy DJI OSMO Mobile 6, but it seems that it lacks support even for S22 Ultra, so I suppose they will never make it work with S23 Ultra.
So what else can I buy?

See, it depends on what you really need, I actually am using that currently for my s23 ultra, but only because I just needed something with stabilisation and something to hold my phone for still shots. It's sad the hardware doesn't work directly with the camera app, they have their own which is pretty lackluster, however all the features worked related to their product in their app.

Can you specify what 'all the features worked related to their product in their app' means? I thought that S23 Ultra is not supported at all?
Is it possible to shoot 4k 60fps stabilized video?
Also is it possible to shoot photo (not video) panorama handheld?
Can you please post some video on which is visible how stable the phone is?
Thanks.
You misunderstood me, the features that they advertise do work, but most of it is because it's all done with their tripod + app. That's also the problem however, since their app is pretty lackluster, yes it'll do everything they said it can, but you have no control or options, for example I can use only 1080p 60fps recording. What I'm trying to say is that it can do all the stuff they say but you're only limited to what they offer in their app (Device support, yes it'll support any phone theoretically, however the options are limited to the support of the device), which isn't a lot, and you lose out all the stuff from the stock camera app. However if you just need a tripod that stabilises then it does that regardless of any further interaction, works out of box since it all happens on the tripod itself, however you'll need the app anyway to update the firmware of the tripod. I'll show you some photos from in the app when I get home from work.

Exactly what I did, bought it from there, decided that it fulfills the basic necessities and kept it, like you said you can always return it. In terms of stabilisation itself it's actually not too bad in my opinion, however this is my first one ever so I can't say anything more besides that. And yeah I will.
