[Q] Animated gifs run terrible - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I filmed my TFP, an ipad 3, a Galaxy S and a Galaxy Nexus running the same animated GIF here:
http://youtu.be/gKgtA8DUH6k
The prime was freshly rebooted and is currently running Virtuous .21 @ 1.6 GHz. What am I doing wrong with this thing? I've tried everything I can think of to get this thing to run smoothly (this isn't limited to animated gifs, its just very apparent with them) Am I really supposed to accept that a 2 year old single core phone can outperform this tablet? Help!

its software, not hardware. Try using a different program to open the gif, what are you using now? (If you say the stock browser im gonna slap you through the computer screen)
Oh, and a link to the gif would be nice.

I don't have any problem with this gif on my transformer prime

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDaEKs-Hqvg&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Same setup rom wise, and apart from a little lag from switching apps, mine runs ok

No problems on my end either. Downloaded the gif. Viewed through QuickPic result smooth as butter. The title of your video...
" Asus Transformer Prime fails at animated gifs. " Is far from the truth.. Not sure how your getting that lag though. Could be what your using to play the gif

found the gif in the youtube video, plays flawlessly on my prime, using quickpix instaed of the default gallery. Running stock .21

From the youtube video I would say your running stock browser and that's the problem.
I tested the gif in a few different browsers and the only one that had problems was also stock for me.

Yes it's the stock browser. It's also the stock browser on the g nexus and the galaxy s which is why I included them in the video.
And sorry for not hiding my disgust and disappointment with this thing in the video title. Thanks for taking the time to reply and for the video.

I know what you mean.
I came from a Nook Color to the Prime and the performance on the Nook was better sometimes lol.
But hopefully the new update will fix this.

Jetflicks app on the Prime??

Has anybody tried Jetflicks on their Prime yet? I have had no luck in any browser I've tried so far (stock, dolphin, opera and firefox). If anyone's had any success, please let me know what browser you used. Also, I'm thinking it might be a problem with the stock video player. Is it possible to change the stock video player?

I have been using Jetflicks on eee pad Transformer TF101. So far it has worked on Dolphin HD for only one of the shows that I watch... no other shows worked for me.
So I launch Jetflicks on Firefox instead. On Firefox, the show gets downloaded (in php format) and when it gets downloaded I pick Rock Player from the popup menu to play the video.
Once again, no other video player worked for me, including MX Player and Mobo Player.
This is the only way I have been able to work on my TF101.
And resolution is not that great on fullscreen mode but I can live with that.
And why is it that Jetflicks has CSI and CSI:Miami but not CSI:NY?
err

Unacceptable stuttering flash video

Ok do you guys get insane stuttering when trying to view these flash videos .http://www.logotv.com/video/episode-4-season-4-queens-behind-bars/1679428/playlist.jhtml#vid=730696
haha my girlfriend and her friends wanted to watch this show so I told them I could connect it to the tv with my hdmi adapter. then I loaded the video and it played back with the most insane amount of lag. I tried it with and without the mhl hdmi adapter. the problem exist either way. the phone itself didnt seem to lag though. because i could scroll smoothly through the webpage. any of the full episodes dont play right. I know it's a show about drag queens. haha but they wanted to watch it and I wanted to show off my new phone. of course that is when i find out these videos all lag. I have gone through two notes and both have had the issue on this website. Can anyone else test this out. sorry about the video content haha.
I experience the same lag on my note... And on wifi....

thank you! What can be causing this. I've tried using the fix for 10FPS video on stock and dolphin browser but it does nothing for this website. does anyone have a theory. The note should be able to handle that video. Especially a over clocked note. It was really embarrassing trying to show the note to a iPhone user haha

Except for the part where iPhone users can't even play Flash in a browser.
Edit: by the way the above video was flawless for me in Opera Mobile full screen mode. Unwatchable in the stock browser.
I think its LOGO`s WEBSITE!.
I have problems sometimes with it Producing Video on my 1080p TV with a 2GB Graphics card that I can play World of warcraft on ultra with 60fps on. SO I think its what logo uses.
same goes for Fox`s Website
Try using the Skyfire browser and see if it runs better. It's what I used for flash when I was on iOS. It will take the load off of your device and put it on their distributed computing network, and just stream you the transcoded video.

Haha true but still not a good way to show off the note. Interesting. I couldn't get it to work in dolphin. Let me try opera. What could cause these browsers to play these videos so poorly.

This must have updated after I tested with opera browser. It is finally watchable. I'm just curious what can cause the stock browser struggle.

Cannot stream from nbc.com

Can you guys stream any nbc.com full episodes? I used to be able to. What format do they use now cause my brothers new ipad can stream. I wonder how many other sites are gonna go this route. I'd hate for this to happen as this is one reason I went with the prime.

Using Overskreen browser works fine. Opera mobile doesn't seem to work. So more then likely a browser issue.

What about your stock browser or ice+? I cant get neither to work.
Funny, I figured stock browser using request desktop site settings would work but I just tried it and no go, which is unusual. Even HBOGO works that way. Also tried Firefox and same thing on nbc. Not available for device.
I tried it on the Boat browser. The stream plays with sound and audio when the show starts then 15 seconds into it the video stops but the sound continues. If I switch screen size then I get video again for another 15 seconds. It is like they are injecting something into the stream that is messing everything up.
From what my brother tells me nbc.com uses quicktime on the iPad or quicktime can interpret the video or something to that effect.
Just for grins I checked abc and cbs and they both play just fine. I have User Agent set to desktop.
works also on Dolphin HD but does not on stock browser. Says "It's not currently available for this device."

That's interesting I didn't think it would work on dolphin and not stock. I'll give it a try

Rubbish flash video playback.

I am having issues with flash videos that are.embedded on webpages. It does play back but with maby skipped frames which make its more or less unwatchable.
I cant seem to find any kind of setting to help with this. Tried on various sites and my own wifi or friends. I am running stock GB with Peershot overclock to 1.4Ghz on demand.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
GB??? Omg!!! I'd like to see that!
Just jocking mate... have you tried different browsers? And is flash enabled in the browser settings?
Sent from my amazing 10.1 galaxy tab
Lol sorry i meant Honeycomb. Spent too much time in the Galaxy Note forum.
I have tried tge stock browser, Dolphin browser and Opera but they all seem to be about the same. Flash must be enabked otherwise I would guess that I would have no play back at all. If i load the same pages ob my Note they play smooth and fine just the Tab that seems to struggle.

Good launchers and web browsers for the TF300T?

Well I've been trying to find good tablet launcher but all I can find decent is Nova launcher. Any recommendations? Stock lags a bit when multitasking so looking for something efficient ^_^ and thanks in advance . Hopefully this would be useful to other noob members like myself.
I'm also looking for a good browser that don't force close and flash videos can fullscreen, so far the only browser that lets me fullscreen flash videos is stock but it lags sometimes and annoys me
I'm not rooted just FYI I'll be waiting for fully stable CM releases later on ^_^
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using XDA Premium HD
I like nova launcher the best, although apex is popular among Galaxy Nexus devs for some reason. But both have the same features like ADW themes, folders and whatnot.
I'm now using the go launcher hd, it's completely free and it's much, much smoother than the stock launcher.
I have never use nova/apex, what's the major difference between go launcher and nova/apex??
I haven't used go launcher hd but Apex and Nova are like an enhanced stock ICS launcher.

Yup I'm using Nova.. Apex lags when on power saving mode... lol kinda dissapointed my g2x tegra 2 under clocked to 750mhz doesnt lag with apex.. then again custom rom/kernel
Im a bit skeptical on current unlock/roms available ill wait till they get polished to have as daily use ,I dont like to keep updating and changing roms so often.
I'm also looking for a good browser that dont force close and flash videos can fullscreen, so far the only browser that lets me fullscreen flash videos is stock but it lags sometimes and annoys me.
Didnt feel like making new thread for this. Changed thread name also and edited first post

I've been using ICS Browser+ the last couple weeks for my browser. Happy with it. Like a modified version of stock browser. Feel it has more customization, more stable and I get fewer wait/force close notifications. Flash works fine with it.
I'm pretty happy with go launcher HD , but haven't tried anything else besides stock.
Dolphin will do flash.

Dolphin was my first choice and it did not do fullscreen flash videos but gota say I'm impressed with icsbrowser+ it simply works and its fast most stable i have seen yet for my tablet
I recommend overskreen it is 2$ but what it does is really nice and worth it for every tablet , it stays on top of any screen or app etc and u can resize it how you want its prety fast toobut it wont handle flash vids fullscreen when needed. Sure most of these browsers will fix that common problem eventually.

I honestly just use the stock launcher. I have nova and adw installed but don't really like them. Adw is too much and nova is ok but the ASUS widgets don't look right. That opinion will probably change for me later on. For the browser I really like how chrome shares of everything with my laptop. Thought about giving browser + a look though cause I do like the stock browser. Ics did a good job with everything almost to where the second launchers and browsers aren't really necessary like they were in the 2.2 days.

I agree after the build.prop mod the stock browser is the best and most stable. As far as the launcher nova and apex for some reason when running on powersaving both launchers kinda lag

I've been running with just the stock launcher really, haven't looked into alternative launchers yet.
Been using Dolphin HD for a while since I wanted LastPass integration, but before I did a factory reset (unrelated issues) it'd crash a lot with the latest version, hopefully that was just a random issue. It's fairly good otherwise and LP support through a plugin is very nice.

Dolphin cant handle fullscreen on latest firmware and my stock browser is actually being way faster than any other browser.. I'm honestly astonished by how its performing after the build.prop change. Only browsers that can handle fullscreen right now is stock and ics browser+ ( based on stock)

If you searh the development section you will find it. But be wary as this can brick ur tablet if done wrong, I assure you u will haveno problems if follow steps correctly and keep backup easiest way to do it is after ur rooted , read the thread and understand how it works before u modify anything
