Widgets not fitting - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I use weather bug elite 4x1 widget and have tried the met office app too, also 4x1. When you place the widgets they don't center to fill the whole width of the screen.
I'm using touchwiz but other launchers are the same. I'm guessing this is due to the hd resolution of the s3?
Will the application devs need to fix this to be 5x1 etc, or is it something that I can change?
Altering the columns and rows in the various launcher settings make no difference, or resizing the widget.

I have no problem with any widget on Nova launcher. Dunno about stock launcher. I belive the Weather Bug Elite widget is to blame for the odd behaviour. Have you tried other widgets?

Hmm, here's my scenario.
My standard widgets (battery, alarm, music) fit perfectly on the standard TW launcher. But after changing to Apex Launcher, the 3 widgets mentioned above does not fit anymore.
The content of the standard widgets are mis-aligned and cannot see everything. Have tried various settings in Apex launcher but could not resolve.
Anyone have similar issues?

Same here.

Yeah widgets don't fit as good in Apex but it's a small price to pay for what is the best launcher for ICS / Galaxy S3

Beg to differ. They're unusable - see the screenshot in the post above my last one. What use is that music widget?

My issue is that the widgets that displayed fine on my s2 don't on my s3. Met office etc.
Apex or touchwiz, they don't fit fully across the screen, leaving a gap.
If the stock widgets don't fit apex then surely that means they've messed about with standard widget sizes on the s3, or is it just because it's hd resolution?

I'm not having any problem with widgets fitting properly via Nova, all sit centre if that's where I put them, maybe it's just down to TouchWiz?

Apex Widget Size
I can confirm that I am having the same issue with regards to the widget size on Apex 1.2.5.
Its a shame as I would be using it in a heartbeat if this was fixed. I would even treat myself to the pro version as its so tidy.

No problems with nova.
Try resizing or tweaking grid size/margins?

I will try nova out and see if I like it
I still cant get those widgets to behave like they do under TW, even with messing around with all of the margins and the grid size. Its a shame as otherwise I would be using Apex full time

Experiencing the same problem. Apex Launcher Pro v1.2.5.

This worked for me. Since margins are on screen borders, when theyre large apex squeezes widgets while keeping all their sizes and some start overlapping. Making apex margins samller in settings made all widgets fit for me on sgs3. May depend on device though.

[Q] How do you change the icon size in tablet mode?

I've noticed some people taking screenshots while in tablet mode and their icons are either normal or larger
I'm running cm9 at 213dip and I really can't understand how you could possibly change the icon size any larger- although if there was a way it would not only be very beneficial; but extremely convenient
-Thanks

Have a look on your launcher settings, should be able to size them in there
My launcher doesn't have those settings. Is there something in the build prop I could edit?

Doing that would change the size of the entire system... There is more than one launcher

I have not tried Go Launcher EX yet - does it will allow you to resize homescreen icons, not just widgets? I have not seen this option in Apex or Nova. I would also like to see a launcher that vertically centers the icon in the grid square when icon labels are not used so they line up with widgets in the same row, not display them at the top to leave room for the label. Anyone know a launcher that will do this?
I'm stuck on ADW ex just for this reason. You can blow up your icons as big as you want. I haven't found a newer launcher that can do this as well as ADW.

Default weather widget and Nova Launcher

I just love the default weather widget for Samsung Galaxy S3. Problem is that when I change to Nova Launcher, the weather widget is not available from the widget list! What can I do to get the default weather widget in Nova Launcher? Must I switch to Apex or another launcher? :S
The default weather widget is part of Samsung's TouchWiz so when you change launchers you lose it. Going to another launcher other than Touchwiz will still not give you access to that widget.
You might try some of the widget programs like Beautiful Widgets in the market. They might have similar weather widgets. I know on my Rezound I use Beautiful Widgets for my HTC Sense style weather/clock when I run Nova.
Is there any way???? i need the weather widget in my apex launcher...

Yep, you only get the 'Calendar' widget.
The touchwiz widget apks are system apps. If some brilliant mind could pull them from system/app and (somehow) convert them to installable user apps, we would be able to use them with any launcher.
I'm not sure if this is even feasible...any takers;-)

Partially true…
On my Galaxy Tab P5100 with stock 4.1.2 and Nova launcher, the Accuweather widget was working flawleslly. It is a case, that it is partly a part of the system, because when pressed, it opens a full screen application...
Now, on 4.2.2 Nova can't pick it up anymore

That is inaccurate.
On my Galaxy Tab S2 the built-in Weather app used to provide both of its widgets to Nova Launcher without any problems: both the wide "clock & weather" widget and the small "weather only" widget were available in Nova. I had that classic Samsung's widget it on my screen in Nova for several years now. However, in my case just recently (around the beginning of November, I think) the wide "clock & weather" widget suddenly became unavailable in Nova Launcher.
The small "weather only" widget is still available in Nova Launcher though. When I switch to TouchWiz, I see two widgets under the built-in Weather app. But in Nova I see only one - the small one. This is a recent change.
I have no idea why "clock & weather" disappeared in Nova, but "widget is part of Samsung's TouchWiz" and "touchwiz widget apks are system apps" theories obvioulsy don't hold any water. Anyone?

[Q] S Planner replacements?

Ok so the s planner widget is great, but it doesnt work on Nova launcher, what apps could make a good replacement for it for non tw launchers?

Even with the stock launcher I prefer the Pure Grid Calendar widget. Very customizable, themable, but mostly I like when you touch a day, it shows the appointments as a list rather than the timetable. So everything is visible immediately rather than scrolling down to later in the day.

Scrolling Launcher Widget?

Someone has got to have made this but I can't seem to find it. I'm using a "hubs" layout (one screen for social media, one for productivity etc) and I'd like to essentially have a horizontally scrollable launcher widget on each screen with apps that make sense for that hub.
Currently using simi folder widget which is cool, but I'd prefer the launcher bar that is activated by clicking on the folder to live in a widget right on the home screen.
Could anybody point me to a widget app like this? I'm pretty sure I saw a video where someone had this but didn't see details on what they were using. Thanks!
Edit: sorry if this would have been better posted in themes and apps. Please move if necessary.

If I'm understanding you then what you're looking for is a dock that can display icons that are specific to the current page? Something close would be Nova launcher which provides a scrollable dock. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it!

Thanks, I'm currently using Apex and I really like it. I don't want just 1 dock (no matter how many pages on it you can scroll through). I want a different set of apps in a horizontally scrolling launcher bar widget. Then I could put an instance of this widget on each of my homescreens with different apps in each one. Then when I swipe from my "Office" homescreen to my "Photo" or "Video" homescreens this "launcher" widget has the appropriate apps for that hub. Hopefully that makes sense.
Like I said, simi folder widget is pretty good for this kind of setup, but I thought there might be a better solution out there.

Nova launcher widgets padding issue

Hey Guys/Girls,
There's a topic on what im about to ask here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2480256 however no-one has replied, hoping s4 mini users may be a bit more helpful .
Basically, I'm using Nova launcher and for the life of me can't get my widgets to look like they do in Touchwiz, is there any way to reduce the padding on the widgets?
I've seen someone saying that this is the reason they don't use Nova but Apex instead, can anyone confirm this?
With the screenshots, the one on the left is using Nova launcher and the one on the right stock Touchwiz.
Any help would be grweatly appreciated .
Cheers.

Do you mean in my screenshot? I know as this is a size option with the Yahoo weather widget and i don't want the 4x2 widget. As you could see though, it looks much nicer in the Samsung Touchwiz than in Nova launcher (looks much more elongated).
I've set the number of rows and columns the same as Touchwiz as well as seting the height margin to non and width margin to small but that hasnt helped.
Cheers.

Looks the same on my s4 mini... It's not elongated unless you manually resize it. Have a look at the attached screenshot, please. Tell me if that's what you mean.

LOL. Yeah, I'm using the default everything in Nova Launcher. Nova Launcher is version 2.3.
BUT
The Yahoo Weather widget is a 2x2, default size. The BBC News widget is a 3x3 RESIZED into a 2x2 to fit into the top right corner. Like in the attachment.

Wow, complete amateur hour moment for me haha, realized that stock Touchwiz grid is 4x4. Changed this in Nova and now lines up better however there still seems to be quite a bit alot of padding above and below the alarm widget (small i know but annoys me ). Going to swith to Apex launcher and see what that looks like.
Anyway, thanks for replying arsradu :good:
Cheers.
