Got my 4gLTE today. Some things i've noticed - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hey guys I finally got my email to pick up my preorder at bestbuy today.
Everything there went smooth. I had the $50 giftcard put towards the purchase so it came to $161 something. I was able to sell my evo to a friend for $125. So i ended up buying the new evo for about $40 after tax, not too bad.
The 3G service is still horrible here in Rochester Ny. Im starting to miss the 4g on the OG evo. Im hoping they roll out LTE quickly.
Now on to the phone. Some things I notice on the new Evo compared to the OG:
-The ringtone volume is alot quieter than the OG
- Pandora seems to take about 20 seconds or so to buffer the next song if i skip it manually. Anyone else notice this? My sisters iphone4 does it in under 5 both on sprint.
- The screen is amazing. I dont have the warm or cool colors like I have seen some people mention.
-Battery life so far is acceptable. I can tell it will be much better then the OG
-The camera is light years ahead of the OG and in the dark the flash isnt too bright like on the OG where it had the dual LED
I think I am going to enjoy this phone once sprint updates its 3g and rolls out the LTE.
I also bought a zagg screen protector and it protects the screen very well but has a weird texture to it. is this how the zagg are supposed to be?
Thanks everyone. Im looking forward to rooting it soon and putting ROMs on it like I had the OG

Give the screen cover a couple days and it will be as smooth as glass.

Yes the zagg screen protector is like a vinyl, kinda like a orange peel texture

So which one you have? Hot colors?

Honestly I wouldnt even bother with a screen protector. This thing has Gorilla Glass 2 and should be able to stand up to the abuse. My Evo 3d's screen still looks perfect and I never had a screen protector on it since it came out last summer.

ya they're hot as hell!!! lol
no they are natural looking

These things are always up for debate. While I would love to go without one, I build cranes for a living and I constantly have to drill..my pockets are always full of metal shavings..that will most definitely scratch it. Gorilla glass is amazing, but it's still glass. I know there are others with similar circumstances.
Op: I know all the original Zagg screen protectors are that way. They have a terrible orange peel to it and just overall looks like crap IMO..they do have zagg HD out which some people seem to like much better.

Yeah, it's very debatable. Slayer69 scratched his screen somehow a few days after getting it. YouTube videos for scratch tests show no damage after scratching with scissors and keys, but then is full of comments from people saying there screen is scratched from daily use. Better safe than sorry.
OP, I read that a lot of people were having problems with proximity sensor using zagg protector.

Just today I noticed a very faint scratch on the bottom right corner of my screen. It was only noticeable when light hit it just right. Nonetheless, I was disappointed, as I have been very careful with the device since I got it through the Sprint preorder. I keep it in my pocket with nothing else, and I do not think I have any abrasive dirt or particles in there... But something got at it.
Again, it is very faint and you can't see it in most lighting conditions. Makes me wish I had put a screen protector on it from day one.
Fun!

I havent had an issue with the proxemity sensor. It actually works perfect for me.
I did have my network drop on me once today with was kind of annoying but it came back shortly after.
I saw the zagg HD but i figured it was just a marketing scam to make you spend more money.
My biggest annoyance so far is where they positioned the volume rocker. When I go to wake my phone or put it to sleep I am always hitting the volume up or down. If i hit the volume up and the power switch the phone wont go to sleep. and when I listen to pandora or my music im always turning the volume down instead of turning off the screen. Its already hard enough to hit the power switch on this phone with the case I have.

OP , im also in Rochester , unfortuantley , lol. Where did you get yours? Went to the best buy in Greece and they were gone . Going to try again tomorrow, possibly.

Good ol' Rochester lol.
I got mine from the BB in henrietta. Mine was a preorder but when they opened up where they keep the phones, i saw quite a few evo ltes

I'm in Buffalo and I was always envious of the fact Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, and NYC had WiMax and I didn't. Now I'm not so much because in the 2 yrs of my OG EVO and 3D I've never actually been able to use it so I won't miss it. I hear the reason Buffalo never got it was something with the TV signals in Canada, just hope we get LTE eventually.

My data is horrible. I've posted speed test results in a couple threads, I think I have a radio issue with my phone.
As for the Zagg HD, it's 1000x better than the original. there's a slight orange peel still if you hold it on an angle to the light and you're looking for it but it feels great (not sticky and rubbery like the original). One thing I've noticed is that over time it gets smoother and feels better. As you wipe the phone it tends to smooth the protector out on the screen. My biggest problem with them was that they turned yellow over time. I vowed to never buy another Zagg shield but this one I've been quite happy with so far. I am having issues with the p-sensor though in low light. Might be a sensitivity issue that might get sorted out in software, could be a HW issue though. I still might return this though because of the ridiculously poor data speeds, especially considering all I've seen reported by anyone has be at least slightly increased data speeds.

I'm actually having an issue with the signal. Here at work the signal is much worse than my og EVO. I am roaming where I used to have 2-3 bars of sprint before. I tried updating everything but its still the same

Picked mine up at the BB in Victor on Sat.3g in Canandaigua isn't too bad and the WiFi radio is much better than my OG EVO.

I never understood screen protectors... I've had a release day HeroC and never had any screen issues. (Same with ol' wifey)
IMO, screen protectors look okay for a week or two then either come off at the corners or have small circles of non-contact. Either way, I think they aren't necessary and may even decrease touch screen sensitivity.
IMO, they obviously have thought of screen protection in the building of the phones. But I guess if you like the belt-&-suspenders look by all means play on, Playa.
EDIT- we also have two daughters that tinker with the phones with who knows what all over their little hands. Still no screen problems ever.

I'm not looking to get one of the cheap ones. I'll be getting one with the anti-glare that doesn't leave finger prints and what not. I just know it's a little different, and I wonder if it will cause issues. We'll just have to wait and see. Either way, I can use my phone without a screen protector. Been doing it for years, but I'd like to invest in a nice anti-glare cover.

Ghost armor

I was just wondering around and found this: http://www.ghost-armor.com/HTC/717.html
i was actually surprised to see our devices were supported since we dont have otterbox or seidio.
has anyone tried this?
There are a couple references to the product if you search. I wish there was a kiosk in Houston. I would try one if it was installed by someone who has done it dozens of times. I doubt I could get it right on my own and good installation is key to these things looking good.

I have owned Ghost Armor on my old TP2 and my current Dinc.
As far as the back cover goes, I really don't see how much it really protects. Just basically lets you keep the same feel of your phone and look (clear protector) and protects from scratches.
The screen protector, I feel is one of the best available. If you install it correctly you barely know it's there.
As a test I took my Touch Pro 2 and rubbed the screen all over the cement sidewalk, the screen was still the same as when I bought it used. Also makes scratches on your screen disappear. The ghost armor seems to go back to its normal form and it was left almost brand new with faint scratches. I recommend it to anyone.
And, they offer a life time guarantee no matter what. Just pay shipping/install fee.
How do you guys like your Amaze? I'm looking to buy one and switch to t-mobile, as I'm on PagePlus and can get more for the same price.
And as for the price of the "Stick Plastic" It is fairly expensive $20 for the screen, but you can replace it as much as you want. I normally got a new one every 2-3 months just for the heck of it. It doesn't leave your screen with anything sticky either.

Worth the money all the way. When you go to sell the phone a lot of the time the main selling point is the screen. Back cases can always be replaced and cases cover up sides.

I was talking about Ghost Armor. They have kiosks too.
A little late on this one, but I would like to say I am happy with my Ghost Armor.
I was in SF and they have a kiosk at the Serramonte Mall. So I happen to be in town with my new Amaze and I first went looking for Zagg because I had great experience with them. But the 2 locations I called didn't have anything available in stock for the Amaze.
So I was walking the mall and saw Ghost Armor. 15 bux for the front screen protector and 5 bux to install. I figure I would let the guy put it on. He put it on and baked the phone for a little bit and it came out looking fantastic. It feels great and I would recommend them. They also say the material is forever warrantied. And as long as you have most of it left, you can bring it to a kiosk and pay 5 bux and they will install a new piece of armor. And I am going to assume that is pending availability of the product.

do they actually "bake" it? i dont like the sound of that lol
They put it in a type of air circulation box, not really baking it, but speeding up the process of evaporating the water they used to apply the protector.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
it does seem to somewhat "bake" it though. the box circulates air but it also produces a certain amount of warmth, kinda get iffy whenever I have a replacement screen protector applied.
that said, it works far better than zagg (which ive used for all of my previous devices) the only downside is that it produces small visible dents in the screen protector after time, none that inhibit the safety of the device but do take away from the aesthetic of the screen.

Bake was probably the wrong word... They do put it in some sort of box and the phone does come out warm. They do turn the phone off before applying the screen protector. The warmth of the phone from the treatment would be similar how warm a phone gets after some extensive usage.

Is screen protector needed?

Hey all,
just wondering. Is screen protector needed for this phone? I got the Diztronic case from amazon, been with it about a month and a half. It comes with its own screen protector which I used from day 1.
It has some bubbles on the sides, barely noticeable, but I'm wondering if screen protector is really needed on this phone?
My old galaxy S 4g (t959v) had the same gorilla glass, never used screen protector and almost a year and a half later is still is intact, with some minor scratches that are only visible when phone is pointed towards the sun or a very bright light.
What I hate about these protectors is that you get to much fingerprints on it and it's hard to get off, even while using the provided cleaning cloth. It's like oil that won't get off easily. I remember my old sgs4g, it was easy to clean and fingerprints weren't as bad. Also, screen seems brighter. Don't know if this phone minimum brightness level is lower, but the sgs4g looks a LOT brighter on lowest brightness setting than this phone, which I hope is because of ROM and not because of screen protector. Though this should mean better battery life for me while indoors i guess.
What you guys think?

I have used a protector on all my phones. Its not essential to use one but I think its worth because you eventually will get at least a small scratch on the device through normal usage and scratches are visible when you hold the screen(when it is off) under light. And I dont think that a screen guard would be a disturbing cause for the user experience unless its a low quality one. And it just saves the screen which might also help in getting you a higher resale value because your screen isn't scratched at all.
Well, I don't really like cases and protectors. I think they ruin the look and feel of the device, regardless of the type of case and how much they protect. I like my devices naked.

I had the captivate and I used it without a screen protector for almost a year without it getting any noticeable scratches. Then I got the S2 and within 2 weeks there was about a 1/2 inch scratch on the front, and I was incredibly careful with it. I would recommend using one.

I've got the casemate pop case. Was bundled with a car charger when I got my GS2 for no additional cost (upgrade cost with case and charger was the same without the bundle anywhere else).
My case is black/gray, but the only one I could find is white/gray except from AT&T's site. Though it is only 20 bucks from AT&T.
Couldn't be happier. Gives the phone a more rugged feel and has helped the phone survive a few falls from about 4 feet straight to parking lots, thanks to my 1yr old, without any damage to the phone. The case has some minor scratches and a couple scrapes. The screen protector has taken all of the damage as well leaving my screen flawless.
It literally looks as of I just took it out of the box minus some lint. Might not be the best case, but is doing the job it was designed to do..and it was free!

Screen protectors are a preference. Though, some of them are known to degrade screen quality. I'm always afraid that my nails will scratch the screen so I always have em. The day I got my phone the first thing I did was get a case and a screen protector. Still going strong and as an added bonus, it covers up the at&t and Samsung logos on the front.

There is nothing better than a nice juicy burger and a......... brunet.
I enjoy the peace of mind, so I always get a quality screen protector for any touch device I own. If you spend a few bucks, you can get one that's not too sticky, goes on with no bubbles and is scratch resistant (which IMO are the three drawbacks of using screen protectors, especially cheap ones).
I've been using zaggs for just shy of a year now. If/how it differs from others, I couldn't say, but I can say it works, phenomenonly. On top of that, what prompted me to go with zagg, is their lifetime warranty (never pay for another one) and if you take the 10-15 minutes to register your purchase, and device online, it insures your screen. User damage, or not, regardless of at&t's verdict, your screen is covered for replacement. Just my two cents

It is actually very sturdily built. I got a door slammed on my hand (which was holding the phone) and I dropped it onto asphalt from a height of about 6 feet. It landed almost completely flat with the glass facing down. Just bad luck on my part. I ordered a case for it, but it hadn't arrived yet. The back of the phone is covered in a silicone that is very grippy. I will say the glass on the front is EXTREMELY slick. It curves to the edges so there is no plastic or metal of any sort on the front panel. Its solid glass. When I set it on top of my closed laptop while face down it will gradually slide off even though the incline is just a few degrees away from perpendicular. I don't consider this to be an issue with build quality whatsoever. The only reason I consider it strange is because there is a notification light on the back, but I dont trust it to sit facedown anywhere due to fears that it will slide off just about any surface that isnt 110% flat. It feels better under my thumbs than any other phone I have ever had and the screen seems to resist getting covered in fingerprint smears. Its very stylish and looks gorgeous, just something to be aware of.

Don't bother returning it to stock if its going back to Asurion... They don't know the difference nor do they care.

Welp I shattered my screen. I have insurance for it and my new one is already on the way. I am going to return it to the stock rom, but was wondering if there is a way to remove TWRP and get the stock secure kernel back. I know it will still say tampered/relocked but does anybody think there will be any issues when they get this one back?

You will be fine. If you have insurance, breaking your screen is not any different than bricking your device
Battery Life...
This phone has poor battery life...there is no use of 1080p display when u can't...even hold that power for more than barely one day....

So you're saying the battery gets you through the day, but it has bad battery life? And you posting this in a radom thread, away from peoples screen shots of 20 hours and 5 hours of screen on time. I would say that you are a troll that doesn't even own the phone, but I think most likely you're a robot from Samsung or Apple sent to spam the DNa forums. Now, if I could only figure out what you're advertising...other than ignorance and misinformation ...

...I think everyone forgot how horrible the feature phones used to be before smartphones boomed. My old LG Chocolate ran only for twelve hours...WHILE SCREEN OFF.

[Q] Setting Button inoperable

My settings button no longer works, no matter where I am in my phone or what app I'm using. I'm not rooted, yet.
I did search and couldn't much on this issue, it might be human error, but am looking for some input.
I ordered a new screen protector, recommended from another member, and directions say to use "soapy" water to install it. I ordered two of these for dirt cheap (I know I know, you get what you pay for), and tried the 1st one with no water. Looked like crap. #2 I used very minimal water, maybe 5 drops, with a towel near the edges of the screen to absorb excess as i squeegeed it out, keeping it away from the what I thought were sensitive areas like the speaker. Honestly, not much water was used, even so that not much got absorbed when I squeegeed. My phone has been exposed to more rain water than this lol.
I tried restarting it, again, and same condition remains.
Phone is currently off in some rice, in the event it is water damage. Hopefully these phones aren't that sad that a few drops of water will damage them.
Could this be unrelated to the water? Would the water have found it's way through the sides, between the front screen and the side walls?
Thanks for any input guys.
What do you mean "Settings" button? Do you mean like the Menu cap key, or something within the OS?
I have a Zagg InvisibleShield on my phone, and I ****ing SOAKED my phone putting it on (like seriously I had to let is sit and evaporate for a couple minutes afterward lol). No issues whatsoever.

The softkey (I think that's what it's called) in the lower right hand corner of the phone, next to the home button.
After sitting a bag-o-rice from the night, it's back to working. Still has me concerned what caused it, but I don't think I'll be using the same product.
How's the Zagg?

I also use wet-mount screen protectors. Zaggs and armor shields. Both are good, zagg is a little better but I think armor shield is a better value (usually significantly cheaper). I've pretty much soaked a bunch of devices when installing them and never had a hardware issue from it. Probably 6 phones and 4 tablets between me and my wife.

The solution that comes with zagg is non conductive, according to the kid at best buy who installed mine. Just found this recommended to leave device off for 24 hrs after install.

I'll look into the Zagg if they're better. I went for value on the last one, and even though I had what appears to be a coincidence with the button, the finished product of that brand wasn't very good. Hard to clean the soapy residue off even with my selection of cleaners.

I got the Zagg HD , it has smoother texture and doesn't give the orange peel look when viewed at an angle.

Ok, is the HD the clearest? Taking the screen protector I got from AT&T off reminded me me how awesome the screen is, and equally how crappy the protector they sold me is.

As far as other brands I don't know which is best, but the HD is much nicer than the standard Zagg from my old phone.

+1, first Zagg HD I've had is on my LGOG right now. From what I've read, all the wet mount screen protectors use a mild soap solution as the wetting agent. I've interchanged Zagg and armor shield solutions and screen protectors with no issues. The longest I've waited after an install to power on was about an hour, and now have no qualms about powering back up immediately after paper toweling the phone off then finish drying with the microfiber cloth.

I love the Zagg for everything but the screen. It's got an odd, orange-peel/pleather like texture that is super grippy. Because of this, It's PERFECT for the back and sides (Full Coverage costs the same as front+ back only), as it adds a texture that I can actually hold on to, but I don't like it on the screen, because it grips and makes the screen slightly less smooth. I have a RealLook on the front right now, but I didn't notice that the person i had put it on (I'm awful at it) got like 2 bits of dust in the very middle of it, so Im gonna switch it out for something else when I get paid again lol.

I had the microfiber handy, maybe I turned it on too quickly. I didnt't wait very long, can't say I'm the most patient person in the world, lol.
