Stock AT&T Gingerbread, we do not have official ICS yet.
Mobile-Odin basically uses all the same files but its already in the .tar so no need to split them up.

Yes you can use KIES for updating, if there ever is one in the phone's lifetime.
This is for the AT&T Galaxy S2 - i777, just making sure you have the same one.
Flashing this on International gs2 i9100 can probably do some horrible things to your phone.

When you open and run mobile Odin it says it never flashes boot loaders. And looking at the screenshots you will not see anything about boot loaders in it either. I have used mobile Odin in the past when flashing i9100 rooms and didn't want the boot loaders. So NO it won't flash boot loaders ever.

Not really, which rom/kernel did you come from?
Can you get to stock recovery or download mode?

Ok for what ever reason it just took a really long time to finish. Worked like a charm, other than my lil scare. Thanks OP it went really smooth now that i see what it did. Thanks for the guide.

[Q] Received a phone that was Rooted, and wanting to get factory ROM?

Hi,
I just purchased the i9100 from someone today and I'm pretty sure that it's rooted. I checked the kernal and it is (2.6.35.7-RAGEmod-U1-v1.1b).
Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Also which files would I need? Do I need to use a USB jig?
I have no idea what I'm doing, there is someone on kijiji (local selling/buying site) that says they will flash it back for me for $100, should I just do that?
Thanks everyone!
not sure what you would do, but what i am CERTAIN about is do not pay 100 bucks... just go to the dev section and read up there.. factory reset (turn phone off, hold volume up, power and home keys simultaneously)
Sorry I wasn't being more specific, but what I wanted to do is unroot the phone. When my phone powers on I get a GR check rom boot logo?
My phone seems to be missing a lot of default apps compared to my brothers SGS2.
well theres this program called s-root which can on click unroot your phone. not sure if you need a specific kernel though. ask around in this forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414

Just unrooting the phone should work with SuperOneClick (download to your PC, enable USB debugging on the phone, connect it to the PC and click on the big "unroot" button. If you are running some custom ROM you want to here rid of you will have to flash complete new clean software from Samsung.
But to the missing features: you said you have an older Galaxy S1, oder course there are other (better) apps and a totally new software on the successor, the SGS2.

Yes that's a custom rom, checkrom v5, go to the stock rom thread, pick an upto date rom, ki8 is the newest.
Flash using odin, guide is also in the thread.
That's the only way to remove a custom rom and kernel and restore the removed apps.

You are on a custom rom or a modified stock rom for shure. If you want to get back to stock then you have a thread in the development section that hosts all the stock roms or are links to them at least. Flashing a stock rom will also unroot you phone.
Now as for the flashing part you need to read the stickies search for a youtube video before you do it. You need to understand that flashing has its risks. Although I flashed my phones at least 50 times and never bricked any of them so far you still need to be warned. Its not complicated at all but you need to understand the basic steps. Good luck.

How to root new stock update (UCLL6)

Does anyone know how to root the new official firmware release from AT&T last month? (4.0.4 UCLL6) From the one post in all xda I could find on the topic. (It was as a side note) it was said the only way is to use ExynosAbuse. (They said it like it was easily obtainable knowledge...) So I tried that and got now where, even though it says that it is expoitable. (

It has also been confirmed that this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746181 method works as well.
And if it turns out no root is available for UCLL6, I could resort to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746181this method, correct?
You are the second person that has said the ExynosAbuse rooting method does not work with UCLL6. I'm not aware of any way to root that distribution at this time, so yes, you could install UCLE5 plus root.
My brother had he same issue with his Sprint S2 because the patched the exploit in the latest software release. I showed him the framaroot tool and it worked. It's listed to work on the i9100 but I've never tried it on our devices.

Neither of the exploits worked that were in framaroot worked unfortunately, I guess I am gonna attempt to do the other one I mentioned even though my computer doesn't play nicely with android phones for some reason even after I install the drivers (probably something to do with my brother thinking he knows best and ending random processes in task manager and killing startup processes)
Wish me luck

I need something different to do for a few hours, and I'll be home alone tonight, so I think I will put together a stock plus root package for UCLL6. Don't know if I can get it done before bedtime tonight though. But if not I'll hopefully get to post it sometime tomorrow.

I came across Phil's universal rooting method on the i9100 forums a few weeks ago: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794. In theory, shouldn't it work because it only injects Superuser and Busybox into the proper directory and doesn't touch anything else? I've been meaning to try it out, but I haven't have enough spare time dedicated to flashing back to stock and test it.

It's unknown. We can only speculate. There were many reports of damage from the leaks that led up to the first ICS release, UCLE5, but the UCLE5 kernel itself did not produce very many reports of damage. I only saw two reports that could have been memory damage due to the cap erase bug, and only one of those seemed to be even half way conclusive. So it is possible it was even fixed in that release.
UCLL6 appearantly fixes some of the other kernel problems that were present in UCLC3 such as the sleep of death, so it may very well be a clean kernel, but this can not be verified by the developers on xda without original source, which is not available.
It certainly would be the safest route to use a custom safe kernel. And as a bonus, the custom kernels are likely to perform much better than stock as well.

And also when i clicked stock kernel to download it says Nocturnal M7 stock. so is it not stock HTC/Tmobile kernel?

Yeah, but I don't understand why it's doing it. It did the same to Xsmagical on the first stock tmo too, but no worries I'll have it fixed Today!

Should I just flash this instead of that TWRP backup you gave me in order to get my phone back to stock? Or will I be left with the same issues?
Hi,
Wondering if we need a corresponding firmware.zip for 1.27.531.x if we want to truly get back to stock after the 2.24.x update comes out for us on T-mobile?
I was thinking once the 2.24.x update hits us we're going to get a firmware update that could prevent us from getting back to stock 1.27.531.x for warranty purposes. Or if you just don't like 4.2.2 and you like 4.1.2 better.
I know we can flash the stock nandroid backup, but I'm thinking that stock nandroid based on 1.27.531.x won't work on a 2.24 firmware and updated hboot?
Or am I completely off and that nandroid would restore an updated firmware and hboot back to to 1.27.531.x?
(Man, really showing my noobish behavior today!)

If u jumped the gun and upgraded Ur firmware and used the 4.2.2 then u'll need to run an ruu or flash the correct fw.

Thanks.
Since we don't have an RUU from T-Mobile, do you have or recommend a 4.1.2 firmware for T-mobile users to go back to that would work with your stock 1.27.531.x roms?

Having trouble flashing

I keep getting installation aborted when trying to flash a new ROM on my cousin's phone. Even when I flashed that I couldn't flash anything else that's the only one that worked no biggie I got a custom one in there figured I had bad downloads. Yesterday I tried flashing AOKP, CM10.1, Avatar 4.3, and AOKP 4.3 and nothing they all had installation aborted. I could post a pic I took with my S4 but it won't let me attach it it just waits for a response. I have done this several times with my S4, Atrix 2, Thrill, and Inspire so I have rooted and flashed different phones not new to this but never seen this happen before. I would search but I'm on my phone and searching sucks with this for some reason. Thanks in advance

my guess is Shayne, he may be downloading from phone, but using the wrong browser. therefore getting the abortion
Update your recovery to TWRP 2.6.
Phone is an AT&T I717 hence why I posted in this forum, using CWM, yes I'm downloading from WiFi with a laptop using Chrome, and the only ROM that worked was Slim 4.2.2. I flashed that one several months ago but my cousin is having freezing and rebooting problems why I was going to flash something else.

Its very easy . . . just download the zip from their site and flash it with CWR. It will replace CWR.
Use TWRP to make a backup of your current system and efs, then wipe system and data, then any rom you flash will be a clean installation. You don't have to mess with the modem.

Yeah I used to have TWRP on my Inspire didn't think it would be a big deal just using CWM to flash my cousin's phone. She doesn't know how to do any of this but she wanted a cleaner OS and hated all the bloat and saw how I had 4.2.2 on a way older phone. Any idea why CWM is failing just curious?

well, excuse me for trying to help. you would not be the first nor the last to try and flash file for wrong device. when someone has worked with multiple devices, it increases the possibilities of mixing up these files
all my questions were valid due to the lack of information and punctuation in your original post. nobody said you were inexperienced. accidents happen and I hate for anyone to all victim.
now that your picture uploaded, I see "status 7" update your recovery. which ever one you are going to use, it needs updating
good luck and I hope everything gets fixed

Sorry if I seemed to be rude but I wasn't I was just trying to help I guess that is hard to notice when you can't convey tone due to only seeing letters. I appreciate the help and yes I know my grammar was horrible in the OP I was using my phone and in a hurry was just trying to post it up before I got busy and forgot to do it.
Why did CWR fail?
Like Captemo said, its outdated. Since 4.1 (JB) roms hit, you get a status 7 error, installation aborted.
Whats the big difference between twrp 2.5 and 2.6 lol 2.5 works just fine ...people were having issues with newer versions and 4.3 ....i say why fix something that isn't broken but people will argue with that. So whats the difference

G935A Root

Warning this is engboot, meaning its not made to be used on day to day basis you may run into some issues. Hopefully we can fix them as we go!
Also do not update supersu through playstore untill we are for sure that it wont mess anything up
Notice from @Chainfire:

SuperSU-v2.74-2-S7QC.zip
You will need:
- Engineering boot images
- Patched version of Odin3 (only AT&T models ?)
- Extract files, and run root.bat with adb on the path
This version of SuperSU is not officially supported. I recommend against updating the APK from the Play Store, or otherwise updating the binaries, unless someone knowledgable has tried before you and confirmed it worked.
If it breaks, you get to keep all the pieces.

First of all thanks to @Chainfire for helping achieve su and @princecomsy for giving me the odin file and engboot
I take no responsibility for anything that happens to your device, same goes for everyone that helped.
First file you will need is here http://d-h.st/gsDA
This is special Odin to bypass SHA-256 made by Princecosmy
Second file you will need is
G935A http://d-h.st/lQY8
G930A http://d-h.st/aK2A
This is the engboot. Using @billas since its already uploaded.
Basically once you have these two files open up the odin included and place the .tar in the ap section should only take a few seconds to flash.
After you are back up download SuperSU made for our phone from here https://download.chainfire.eu/968/SuperSU/SuperSU-v2.74-2-S7QC.zip
Extract the files to a folder.
Here it may get a bit tricky for some.
Go to your adb install location. Open a command window where your adb files are located.
Change the directory to your supersu folder location from earlier, and run the root.bat from the cmd.
I am not very good at instructions as this is my first time doing anything like this.
For the bounty id prefer if you just donate to https://secure.savethechildren.org/....C01C/Global_Action_Fund/apps/ka/sd/donor.asp

Again thank you to everyone who helped!

You can use it on a day to day basis. Dont try going back it will remove what you have done. The issues if there are any are minor.
And yes it is for ATT S7 edge.
I have a few questions here.
What exactly is going on with this root process? Is it installing a recovery? Will this trip knox? I assume Samsung Pay won't work anymore? Can we finally used xposed? If so, which version?
How can one revert if we felt the need to?
I feel so sorry for @br3w3r for having to deal with all of the Q&A after all of this hard work. LOL! But seriously, thanks for all of this.
