G935A Root - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Warning this is engboot, meaning its not made to be used on day to day basis you may run into some issues. Hopefully we can fix them as we go!
Also do not update supersu through playstore untill we are for sure that it wont mess anything up
Notice from @Chainfire:

I'm just going to leave this here...
SuperSU-v2.74-2-S7QC.zip
You will need:
- Engineering boot images
- Patched version of Odin3 (only AT&T models ?)
- Extract files, and run root.bat with adb on the path
This version of SuperSU is not officially supported. I recommend against updating the APK from the Play Store, or otherwise updating the binaries, unless someone knowledgable has tried before you and confirmed it worked.
If it breaks, you get to keep all the pieces.

First of all thanks to @Chainfire for helping achieve su and @princecomsy for giving me the odin file and engboot
I take no responsibility for anything that happens to your device, same goes for everyone that helped.
First file you will need is here http://d-h.st/gsDA
This is special Odin to bypass SHA-256 made by Princecosmy
Second file you will need is
G935A http://d-h.st/lQY8
G930A http://d-h.st/aK2A
This is the engboot. Using @billas since its already uploaded.
Basically once you have these two files open up the odin included and place the .tar in the ap section should only take a few seconds to flash.
After you are back up download SuperSU made for our phone from here https://download.chainfire.eu/968/SuperSU/SuperSU-v2.74-2-S7QC.zip
Extract the files to a folder.
Here it may get a bit tricky for some.
Go to your adb install location. Open a command window where your adb files are located.
Change the directory to your supersu folder location from earlier, and run the root.bat from the cmd.
I am not very good at instructions as this is my first time doing anything like this.
For the bounty id prefer if you just donate to https://secure.savethechildren.org/....C01C/Global_Action_Fund/apps/ka/sd/donor.asp
Makes more of a lasting impact then what i could do with any of it.
Again thank you to everyone who helped!
We made it fam!
If you are successful after rooting and can give better instructions please let me know!

Thanks a lot.....you guys are awesome...

Thanks! I'll be trying this for T-Mobile varient. But can someone please mirror the Speedyshare links? I can't download them for some reason. Popup blockers perhaps?

Good job , by the way Br3w3r !

Will this work for the ATT S7 Edge? When you say not to use on day to day basis, do you do root stuff then revert back to regular kernel?

You can use it on a day to day basis. Dont try going back it will remove what you have done. The issues if there are any are minor.
And yes it is for ATT S7 edge.

I have a few questions here.
What exactly is going on with this root process? Is it installing a recovery? Will this trip knox? I assume Samsung Pay won't work anymore? Can we finally used xposed? If so, which version?
How can one revert if we felt the need to?
I feel so sorry for @br3w3r for having to deal with all of the Q&A after all of this hard work. LOL! But seriously, thanks for all of this.

Stock AT&T Gingerbread, we do not have official ICS yet.
Mobile-Odin basically uses all the same files but its already in the .tar so no need to split them up.

Yes you can use KIES for updating, if there ever is one in the phone's lifetime.
This is for the AT&T Galaxy S2 - i777, just making sure you have the same one.
Flashing this on International gs2 i9100 can probably do some horrible things to your phone.

When you open and run mobile Odin it says it never flashes boot loaders. And looking at the screenshots you will not see anything about boot loaders in it either. I have used mobile Odin in the past when flashing i9100 rooms and didn't want the boot loaders. So NO it won't flash boot loaders ever.

[MOD] Google Wallet fix (MUST have custom recovery)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282892
all support will be discussed in this thread.. i originally made this for the t-mobile variant. ATT users were able to push the files of the fix into their phone because they didnt have a custom recovery, and it worked..
It is now confirmed that an ATT user now with a custom recovery has flashed this fix and it is now confirmed working.
I now present this to you guys. Would love to see you guys with wallet working using verizon. feel free to test this, but i STRONGLY reccomend you making a backup, or having a rom saved on your sd card that you can revert to in case any errors come about. Im almost sure this will work successfully if the instructions are followed correctly.
thanks and if you have any questions, ask in my original wallet thread.

Ok, so I used root explorer to change the .prop lines then booted into recovery (twrp) and flashed the file listed and that went well.
Now, what permissions do I have to "fix" and how do I do that? I wasn't promoted nor saw an option to do this in TWRP recovery.
I rebooted and installed the wallet app from the play store, opened it, and now it seems to be stuck on "Setting up Wallet, this may take up to 5 minutes" and nothing happens.
What did I do wrong and how do I proceed?
Thanks in advance.

Need an ADB dump from a rooted I-545 ASAP. Details follow...

Good morning/afternoon/evening, all -
I recently hard-bricked my S4 trying to flash. It came up as a QHSUSB_DLOAD in windows device manager. I tried several different approaches to fix the bootloader, but eventually had to send it to a service to try to JTAG it.
He reports it still cannot boot, and has requested - from someone with a ROOTED I545 ON OC1 (do we know anyone like that?) - the following file:
Ok, you need an I545 in OC1 with root access. We need to create a dump of about 128MB. You can do this by using ADB shell and type
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/dump.bin bs=128 count=1000000
This will create a 128mb file on the internal storage of the phone which you can copy back to the computer and send to me.

Take it from someone who worked on this device for a long time. SD Card Debrick does not not work on anything above NC5. We have all tried many times. Looks like beginning with the NK1, SBL1 no longer searches for the SD Card as a bootable device.

Should ask jtag guy to dump imem and pbl while he's in there
... and YES! IT LIVES!!!
Will be OF1 stock - but at least it's not a brick!
I know this is an older post...
I'm trying to find the same I545 OF1 adb dump to use for jtag.
I know the sdcard debrick does not work with OF1, and I already tried injecting the single bootloader partitions that are in the firmware without success.
I'm hoping the dump will solve my issue because of the PGPT, MD5 , MBR or other partitions that may be corrupted.
I am not interested in the efs /MEID..
Thanks!

Sprint 6.0.1 Marshmallow PCA Full restore flashable in odin

Moved to general section here as suggested by @malbert16442
That doesn't work in Odin. It's a recovery zip repackaged as a TAR.

Hi there. Sorry that it did not end up working guys. Its not that I dont know what I am doing, its just that its been pretty hard figuring it out compared to what it used to be. Before, just a few weeks ago, on sprints website, there was a chart that told all of the build numbers and all of the patches that each build had inside of it. Now its gone. All that website is is 2 links to find a new software version or to see what version you are on. So that file posted in the OP here is all I have to base it off of. And when I threw it into odin it seemed to work fine, although I should Have tested it fullly beforehand. I was also in a rush (sort of) becuase my family is going on vacation to another part of the country as this week is April Vacation for the schools in my town. I hope you guys understand why it happened as it did, and for that, I apologise. this is the website im refering to http://support.sprint.com/support/ar...-dvc8080008prd and when I get back to my house I will retry with a linux usb as that seems to be what tutorials point to doing.
It would appear that you don't know what you're doing. The files within a TWRP/CWM flashable zip don't work the same way an Odin flashable TAR does.
You took all of the files from http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s5/general/sprint-gs5-android-6-0-t3336758 & changed it to TAR. You didn't even give @djxn40 credit for his hard work. Instead you decided to give people permission to your "work" which actually did do anything at all.

I do know what i am doing. I was just in a rush and didnt cover everything a normal dev would because i was in a rush. I also did not ask permission of any devs as if you look at the main post "rom developers can use this without permission." But @djxn40 didnt upload it, @highspeedfelon did if you look through the thread, @djxn40 just moved it to the op. And that recovery file is the only file i can base it off, because if you search through sammobile, and the sprint support page, youll see the latest version is still OK4, (on the sprint site it says in the top left it was updated on april 7th 2016 but there is no table showing the build numbers and bug fixes like there used to be.) It was an attempt, and I failed, so I will learn from my mistakes. That is all. The link has been removed from the op of this post. I will do something about it when i get back home later this week as im on vacation with my family (april vacation for the town i live in is this week).

If he doesn't know how to give credit you appear to not be able to read an entire thread before flaming his attempt. I don't see you trying to further development. Your attitude doesn't help anything. I appreciate anyone attempting to help keep the device moving forward. Did he rush? Sure. Does it deserve being flamed? Not really. Take a nap or a Prozac and come back with a better attitude. Jesus.
Why does it even matter who uploaded the update.zip its a free download? I don't care who uses that update.zip or what they use it for.
Mates, why are you arguing? I have Android 6.0.1 Official. So, it is proof this exists. But this, isnt it.

This should work (please let me know if it does not. Also should not trip knox but Im guessing most people who are viewing this already have anyway . Simply Download on your PC, put your device into download mode (power off phone and hold volume down, home button and power button and let go when you see the download mode icon) and place the file in the AP slot in Odin.
LINK HERE: file doesnt work in odin, explanation in reply below. will fix in a few days when i get back. I apologize.
Rom Devs feel free to use this for whatever without asking permission.

No mate, I do not have root.

[ROOT DISCUSSION] Snapdragon Note 8 models

So far I have permissive selinux and dm-verity is disabled. We CAN have root if we can get odin to accept a custom system img. I need some samsung modders to PM me so we can figure something out. Our phones have secure download so I cant get a custom system image installed but once we get that we have root.
Also this seems to add VoLTE support to my sprint model(calling+ i believe sprint calls it)

EDIT2: Added proof of permissive.
Gotta be some strong minded people here to help us out!!

Good to see you here me2151,
With your dirtysanta, the whole v20 lines were able to achieve root!
Hope you get the support from other devs and achieve the root for the note 8, too!
Cheers ??
Let the fun Begin! Can't help until I get my n8.... But this is gonna be worth it!

Indeed, glad to see you on the Note side! Even with everyone telling you there was no way to get root on the V20, you certainly proved them wrong with style. ?

Good stuff, I'll be watching this thread closely and wish you good luck in your efforts!
I figure avoiding any updates would be a good idea until root is found, correct? In case they update bootloader and that patches whatever bugs would be used to get root.
Thank you for trying to get root on the snapdragon Note 8!

At the moment its possible to use Odin on stock files to revert the firmware so updates (should) be fine.
I'd offer to be a tester for you. Very familiar with ODIN, ADB/Fastboot etc. It does not seem you need testers so I won't PM you.
Good luck and I'm sure with all the great minds here, you'll get it. Good initial progress.
Better make a bounty thead

I would avoid trying to
Port the S8 Snapdragon root method altogether... It limits battery capacity to 80%. Need to find a better permanent solution
We need leaks.

Not trying to port their method but yes. Battery is still limited. Best bet would be a debug bl leak like note7.
Has anyone started a bounty yet? And if so can i get a link to it please

if you need help I'm here,
Would the S8+ root work on the note 8? They're so similar that I would think so unless it has something to do with the RAM.
Edit: never mind. I just seen that it was already being discussed.

It should work. We just need to find someone with access to the files. Currently have my Snapdragon Galaxy s8 rooted with sampwn and while 80% limit does suck. The advantages of having root and xposed are well worth it imo.

Sampwn is the easy way of doing things. it required access to a VERY special eng firmware. The access I have currently is part of what they have. Theirs had the su binary preinstalled into system that allowed them to do sampwn. Mine doesnt. But... At this time i literally only need to remount system to read write and we win.
I honestly have not been working on it because I am in FL and we were just hit with a hurricane. I now have my power back though so I am going to start back up on gaining access to system. Once again anyone who can work on exploits please PM me.

First off hope you and your fam are okay. I'm in Houston and just went through the same 2 weeks ago but Florida looks alot worse.... I'm glad we have someone like you looking into this. I followed the gs8 thread daily and I remember reading that they also had trouble getting system to mount but eventually they got it. Maybe we can have one of those devs swing by here and lead you in the right direction. With the announcement of the new iPhone our Note 8 look better then ever lol and root would be a cherry on top. Please keep up the good fight!

I got most of my info from them. Thats how im so far. The way they were able to mount system was because of the Firmware they were using i believe

Oh I see. Awesome! Glad they are helping out. So your trying to get system to mount to install SU binary that came preinstalled with their firmware? Is a firmware like theirs available for our Notes to just get SU and then maybe revert back to a more stable firmware with flash fire?
