[Q] Wi-Fi issue hardware or software? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently picked up a gs3 and I like it but one thing that is really bothering me is I'm getting constant drop outs on wi-fi and the reception is very low unless I'm standing next to the router.
Other devices do not have any issue at all. I've also noticed when scanning wifi the gs3 doesn't pick up as many routers as other devices do.
I've been reading threads and noticed a member mention going into the service menu and disabling power saving on wi-fi but that has not solved the issue.
I'm wondering whether it's a hardware or software problem. If it was software then surely others would have issues?
I don't really want to exchange the phone incase I get screen issues like the pink tint or blobs people are having.
But obviously if I have a hardware fault then I'll have to get it exchanged as a phone that keeps disconnecting from the wifi is not useful to me.

I also have this problem but it also extends to my 3G connection. Does not connect until I restart my phone, doesn't happen often, but its a pain when it does. I downloaded a WiFi fix from Google play and so far so good not had any problems...this is the only problem I have with this device otherwise its a beast of a phone.

Not sure if your setup is like mine but i had two routers in my home broadcasting the same ssid and channel. I kept facing frequent dropouts until i changed the channel on one of them. It seems the device kept bouncing between the two routers even though i was much closer to one. No more drops once they both broadcast on different channels

i read somewhere in this forum that you have to change the setting of the band of the router to 5ghz.
that fixed the connection dropout of wifi.

I only have one router. But I will try changing channels as maybe there's a lot of congestion on the channel I'm using.

I've read about that on here but I don't think my router has that option.
I'll go into the config and see if it does.
Thanks for all the replies

Just to update the thread, since I started this thread my wifi has been awful the way it keeps disconnecting especially when downloading large files.
I've been googling and had tried lots of different things.
What finally seems to have solved the drop out issue is turning security on my router to wpa instead of wpa2.
No drop outs so far even when downloading large files, but the signal strength is really bad, not sure if I still have a hardware fault or whether the galaxy s3 wifi is just weak.

Hi,
Same problem with mine. weak signal. At home or at work.
I think this an issue (hardware ? software ?).
But I'am surprised that we are alone.

Me too
Same issue here with regular random wifi dropouts at 2 ap's. Radio streams far more reliably over 3g!

Read on another android forum that somebody had been advised by their carrier to return the device. I was hoping lf2 update would sort it but no such luck...

Mines absolutely fine :s.....

i found this thread on xda, i'm hoping it does the trick

If you are using 2 APs with the same SSID and settings, your device can roam seamlessly only if the underlying network is the same network. If the 2 APs connect to different network subnet, it will never be seamless and you will get connection drops.
Your device must receive the same IP and subnet from the same DHCP with same gateway so it will be seamless between 2 APs.

I had issues at work. But not at home.
Today I told it to forget my B/G radio and to connect to the N radio. No disconnects, none..
No changes made to the phone at all..

May not be router
Hi, for what it's worth, my husband and I each have an s3. Mine has no problems at all with wifi anywhere. His drops out at home. I posted more here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28510251#post28510251
We've tried the *#0011# trick and that is a temporary fix, but we need to redo it on a regular basis. The setting is not saving.

[Q] New Lead and Wifi Dropping like crazy

My wifi connection is dropping within seconds of connection. The phone switches to 3g, wifi turns back on and connects again for a few seconds, drops then kicks back onto 3g.
Ive had this issue on multiple roms, so I am relating it to something similar to RezRom and CleanRom or to the leak itself.
Anybody have ANY ideas?
Update: seems that after the firmware update, my router and phone did not like each other. I was able to tweak my router quite a bit and it appears that the dropping connection issue is resolved.

The phone does not have 5GHz abilities, but regular 2.4Ghz N is supported.
Via Rezound using XDA Premium
EDIT: Take that back, however it doesn't see any of my 5Ghz access points here at all.
I have a wireless N router at home with no problems. It is on the 2.4ghz band though. I think.

Ditto. My wi-fi is dropping intermittently. If I toggle it off and back on, it starts working again.
What router tweaks did you do or phone tweaks?

I'm having the same problem. However, mine doesn't drop out within seconds, it'll probably be good for a couple hours then I'll notice it's trying to sync with my Exchange server for a while, and will eventually time out and then I lose all internet connectivity until I turn wifi off and back on again. This happens on multiple wifi networks, including wireless-N and non wireless-N.
I do also see that the 3g icon will come and go every few seconds when connected to wifi. Anyone know if this is just a bug with the new ICS leak or is there some kind of fix floating around?

I am unlocked and rooted but I am running the stock ROM and mine does exactly what yours is doing. I don't actually know if this happens outside of my house since I'm generally using 3/4G then.
I have a thread on this in the question section but no answers yet.

This is true. The rezound does seem to have 5ghz capability. However my POS netgear doesnt get the same distance on 5ghz as 2.4ghz.
As far as what I did was actually reset my router and update firmware. This seems to have fixed the issue for now. I only started having this issue with the updated leak and it was happening on all roms and even stock. Reinstalling a ROM would fix it for about 2 to 3 minutes then it was back to switching between both data and wifi.
My phone burned up the battery in a matter of an hour and half as it was constantly going from wifi to 3g.
My phone does the same thing!! I think it happpened when I flashed the new leak zip without re locking vootkoader. In hoping that official ics will fix it

Just curious if anyone found a solid solution to the Wifi problem that we seem to be experiencing with the new leak? I tried the suggestion of disabling auto wifi in the dock mode but that didn't seem to fix it for me. I guess I'm just trying to see if this is widespread, or if it's only affecting certain people in different scenarios. It doesn't seem to be getting as much attention as the overheating/battery life issues that others are reporting.
So far I've tried connecting to multiple networks with different security types (open, wpa, wpa2, wep) all seem to the have the same result of showing that wifi is connected, works for a couple of hours, then will lose wifi connectivity, even though the wifi indicator is showing that it's connected. I've done everything i can think of other than re-flashing the ICS leak. I've also never unlocked my phone, just installed the update per the original instructions on Android Police.

[Almost SOLVED] WiFi connect/disconnect

Update, I've had my phone replaced by Samsung tech in Plano TX, that doesn't help, but updating my router to the Apr 2012 eko dd-wrt did make some differences. Also the ota update from att has a new modem apk and that also chg'd the phone functionality. One thing that I have seen is that the phone reports the wifi network signal as being lower than before, and the output signal is slightly higher. I find that I have to occasionally turn the wifi on and off to reset it.
Short list of fixes and things to try:
1 update routers firmware
2 no dual encryption
3 some routers with 300 or greater Mbps settings need to be toned down to 150 or less
4 phone likes mixed protocol network over N only.
5 turn off phone power save
6 un check the carrier hot spot notify.
7 un check open wifi notify
8 pick a single band 2.4 or 5ghz. Note that updates with this can temporarily lock in to that frequency and not allow changes.
9. Dial *#0011# menu button, wifi and turn off the power save setting. This has to be done on every boot, and may cancel the display timeout.
10 On 5Ghz don't use DFS channels
Incorrect since people who have installed some roms and cm 10 are saying that they don't have any problems: I am almost certain now, that the wifi disconnect/connect issue is hardware incompatibility.
I have Linksys wrt-610 v2 -- which has problems
I have Netgear WHR3500L which has problems
I have Linksys wrt-54GL v1.1 which has NO problems (had to dig this out of storage)
If YOURS works or YOURS doesn't work pls visit this thread and post your info so we can find out what routers do and don't: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1752356

I've posted this and then the mod's moved the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722363&goto=newpost to the Sprint version of the forum.
Here's a recap since the guy has a sprint phone and won't recognize my issue there.
Here's the issue I've been having. I'm in a very active 2.4 wifi neighborhood. Even though I had the advanced wifi set to 'Always on' it kept disconnecting (and instantly reconnecting) to my network. The phone is scanning the neighborhood almost every 15 seconds. It's simply WPA-2 with just AES (and I'm not changing to TKIP)
This is a problem for me as I use "Unlock wtih WiFi" to keep from having to enter my PIN when I'm at work/home and "Home Sweet Home" which uploads any photos I have taken to my server when it detects the home wifi network (and deletes them from my phone after 3 months).
Anyway, I was just on the chat with Samsung and in the end we did this,
1. disable the ATT WIFI auto login function (seems there's something similar on the Sprint phones that's a issue).
2. soft reboot the phone (turn off, pull battery, count to 30, boot up)
However this suggested solution doesn't work.
The wifi isn't staying connected though the breaks are very very temporary, but long enough for those apps to kick in.
Update additional things tried:
3. Turned off WiFi power save in the *#0011# service menu
4. Turned off Open WiFi notifications, ATT Autologon.
5. Selected a single wifi band (5Ghz) where there is ONLY one network, mine
FWIW, I like that it connects to my 5Ghz wifi at 150 mbps, the speed is great.
6. I've disabled the Unlock with WiFi and it still occurred.
Here's a video of the issue showing the phone:
http://youtu.be/FBo3NFdcMhs
Here's a videoe of the issue showing the router: http://youtu.be/rRALDc8LZOk
and for those technically inclined here's a dump of the logs which clearly shows the drop and reconnect: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/38266113/SendLog.txt
FWIW. I just got off a 45 minute call with Samsung Help Support, went to level 3 support in Texas. This is newly documented, I've referenced this forum for additional reports of the dual encryption and the wifi connnect/reconnect issue I'm having. My ticket # 2113584507 (just for disconnect/reconnect) which you can mention at level 1 as having the same disconnect/connect issue. I specifically asked if I could post the ticket # so anyone could reference it at Level 1, but they will still take your own experience down.
Level 3 said they expect that they will be getting calls today since it's the first full day after the release. So if you want it fixed, CALL SAMSUNG, they're collecting bug reports.
I was having this same problem yesterday afternoon at work. Last night I set my radio to 5GHz only and today it hasn't happened once.
I am so glad I found this as it was driving me nuts on my new Sprint SIII. I think it's bouncing back and forth when both are available as at work, it stayed solid where we only have 2.4.
Thanks!!!!!!
I had that problem the entire time I had my Captivate. Very short disconnects. Only reason I knew was because of a task I was using in Tasker having problems, and I set a method to track connection.
I fixed the problem with setting a static IP address. I used WiFi Static.
I'm using it on the S3 just to be sure.
Had the same problem. However I set it to connect to 2.4ghz and it stopped doing that. If I put it on auto it will do it. If I leave at 5 it won't connect.
I do however think I might have a wifi dead spot. I notice if I hold it a certain way I lose a signal or two on wifi. Or the speed of wifi decreases. Anyone else having the same issue? It might just be me

although I've gone to level 3, I need you and everyone else experiencing this to report it so that its corrected. Granted they are certainly going to visit the wifi code for the dual encryption issue and stability with Auto frequency, but fixing this could be done at the same time.
FWIW, since I have two routers and 3 networks, one of them is simply a pure G up to 54mbps default firmware setup (since it's the FCC's) and connecting to that greatly reduces but not entirely eliminates the problem (even in the same room). It's much worse on my "N" only networks. And I have tried static IP that also doesn't fix the problem. This is some sort of software issue in the renegotiable speed setting or timing settings or power savings. Off course it certainly could be some badly (or purposely) behaved app software too.

Interesting. Given that I don't seem to be having any issues, it seems it is not a problem for everyone.

More likely to be a timing issue or protocol issues as the phone scans and tests various networks on different bands and protocols. Many people have n routers that do mixed networks, b, g and n, and they just may not know what they are doing all the time as the phone renegotiates with the router. I have a wrt 610v2 doing only n on 2.4/5ghz and on the the Netgear N300 it drops less doing 2.4 g and at my friends who have a wrt54g and it dropped even less often. The app that I use to enable my lock screen pin makes this more noticeable.

FWIW, I decided to followup on the ticket. Samsung level 1 (not that it matters) says they have never heard of this problem. Level 2 was better, and we in essence setup a new ticket with the videos already linked to it. I offered a sendlog, I offered to install a test app if they have one. I already beta test for a number of app developers as well as some major hardware OEMs.
PLEASE, everyone, call samsung support directly and register a ticket that this is a problem so that they have the information first hand and not via ATT or Sprint, etc which they might ignore.

I just called. They said they would note it 'on my account'. They indicated it would be a Google issue, not Samsung. They only do the hardware (and of course, it can't be a hardware issue, can it? )
I was thumbing through the phone logs from a boot to connection and reconnect. I have to say Chrome has a lot of errors thrown particularly in the bookmark sync. Also it appears that every time the wifi is initially started it checks for authentication for tethering on both the wifi and BT. It almost looks like the phone thinks that the wifi ap is off and restarts wifi scanning.

I have experienced the slow network and disconnect/reconnect issue on this phone since it arrived, but all is normal on our 5 or so other mobile devices with this Netgear WNDR3700 router on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
Oh, and there's this.

[Q] Wifi keeps disconnecting and reconnecting

I am using Verizon GS4.
Actually, I go to Columbia, but my GS4 keeps disconnecting and reconnecting immediately the wifi that Columbia provides.
Other devices have no such problem, and my GS4 does not have the same problem with other wifi networks.
I searched for relevant information on google so much, but nothing worked.
Could you guys help me identify what causes the problem and solve it?
Thank you.

Well, for starters you'll need to provide more information, such as
is this a dev edition or regular verizon phone?
are you running a custom ROM and/or kernel?
can you use other wifi networks?
I've never had any issues with mine.
Mine is just a regular verizon phone and I don't root it.
With other wifi networks, there are no such problem.
Columbia provides two wifi networks: one is unsecured, the other is secured.
But, both of them have the same disconnecting and reconnecting problem.
Actually, I even got replacement from Verizon, but the replacement one also has the same problem.
Of course I did the factory reset, which did not work.

Sounds like some compatibility issue with the access points AFAIK. I know there were some initial issues with some DLink consumer routers but this would be something new. You might want to see if you can find any information on the access points and report to Verizon/Samsung. For that matter you might report the issue to folks at Columbia and they might be of help.
That said, perhaps someone else has seen this and will chip in.
You are probably connected with DHCP. Sometimes I have found it useful to go into advanced options, and then click on "static". You should then see your IP address that DHCP has automatically assigned you. Try changing it and connecting. For example, if your IP is 192.168.0.7, try changing it to 192.168.0.45 or a number higher up.
Some of the routers have issues automatically assigning IP's. And with all of the connecting/reconnecting, the lower IP addresses can have issues. Assigning yourself an IP address that is out of the normal range that most connect in, can sometime help. My router at work does the same thing. So I set it up with an IP that was way out of range. 192.168.0.210. The DHCP service the router offers rarely assigns addresses in that range.
Also, sometime others will have done this already and assigned themselves a static IP in the low range. And sometimes the router will give seniority to someone connecting statically or that already has an IP or MAC that is filtered either on purpose or accidentally from an old configuration or user.
There are many scenarios. Including device fault. There could also be issues with the two routers or single router that is emitting both a secure and insecure connection.
Try the static IP address first, then report back.

It's likely to do with the WiFi Multimedia or equivalent in your router. It is especially prevalent in the Dlink DIR-655 and DIR-855 routers. If you have an "N" rated router (everyone should have) if you uncheck WMM (WiFi Multimedia) in your advanced router settings and reboot your router, you should not have any more constant connects or disconnects.
Sammy blames the hardware manufactures and the manufactures blames Sammy with each others firmware as the problem. I was using a DIR-655 router until i just updated mine last week to a Linksys EA4500 (N900) and no problems at all.
Just so you know, unchecking WMM means you force the router to basically run at "G" speeds instead of "N" speeds. WMM was a workaround compatibility fix during the time when "N" speeds were still in draft status, not official. New routers still use WMM but its all stable and new routers shouldn't have the same issues with the GS4.
90% of the time this is the exact issue people have with the constant disconnects with the GS4 with their routers. The fact it is at a university means you likely won't be able to fix it. You can try seeing if they can test this theory at their IT department but I have no clue if they will do it.
solved
I just set "Static IP" in the advanced option without changing IP address.
But, this solved my problem, thank you for your help especially h311sdr0id.

"Internet connection is unstable" issue

OK, I've seen a lot of posts in various forums about this issue, but have yet to find a single thread that captures all the details about what I've experienced. Let me know if I should move this conversation into a different thread.
On my home wifi network, I am able to connect, but constantly receive the error "internet connection is unstable", and I cannot pull any data over wifi. I noticed this issue on my home network after returning from a business trip this week. I'd previously seen the issue occasionally in hotels, etc, and had already disabled the "Passpoint" and "Auto network switch settings". That seemed to work on the road, but now that I'm at home, I'm unable to pull any data over wifi.
My home router is a TP-Link Archer C7, running the latest firmware.
Per Verizon and Samsung's advice, I cleared the cache partition, "forgot" and reconnected to the network, tried using safe mode, and tried a factory reset of the phone. I also restarted the router and changed the router's broadcast channels.
Last night, I rooted the phone via Kingo and installed the Jelly 'Beans' rom using SafeStrap, since I wasn't getting satisfactory answers from support. To my surprise, the issue also occurred on the new rom. I'm not an Android expert, but it seems like this means its either:
1) a hardware issue, or
2) a lower-level software issue (radio firmware? not sure how that works)
I removed root and safestrap, to continue support options with Verizon, but I wanted to ping the community here for suggestions. The timing is confusing to me. I'm pretty sure, though not certain, that I've used my home network successfully since the 12/17 OTA update. However, since so many others are seeing issues, it seems unlikely that this is a hardware issue.
Could others describe their issues and router, so we can look for patterns? Let me know if I should move this into a different thread.
Thanks!
Mine does the same thing from time to time but only on certain roms
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Premium HD app
yeah, I'd seen intermittent issues previously, but all of a sudden it stopped working at home entirely. Still connects to some other networks, although not all.
After seeing a bunch of posts on the Verizon forums (and just the general timing and behavior of the issue) it seemed like a software problem.
Verizon is actually cooperating, so I may just end up replacing this phone. Wondering if anyone else has seen wifi completely break like this.
This is the only thing I can not stand about my note
I have a Zyxel WAP3205 WIFI access point (Wireless G) that I use at both work and at home.
At home, I have Comcast Business Cable internet, and have absolutely no issues connecting to it. The WAP is connected to a Belkin N600 router, which is then connected to my cable modem (not sure of the model, shouldn't matter TBQH).
At work on the other hand, I have constant connection issues. Albeit, I don't get the 'connection is unstable' notification, but I get constant connect/disconnect problems. I also have almost no (most of the time I can't even send/receive text messages at my desk.....) phone signal (ie not even 1X). I'm not sure if that plays into it at all either. The company I work for uses Windstream for their ISP, and it's complete crap to be perfectly honest. Needless to say, it doesn't change the fact that I'm connecting to the internet through the same device (well, same model/firmware/etc...), and I'm having issues at 1 place and not at the other.
I might also add that my tablet (Nexus 7 2013 running CM11) doesn't seem to have these issues at all and works just fine via the WIFI.
That's about the only information that I can provide. I know my internet where I work is complete crap. I sometimes remote desktop back to my home server to browse the web and download files via that because it's actually faster. I'm not even kidding.
I have 2 routers at home and have experienced the same issue as well and none of my other devices have this problem

Verizon is shipping a replacement phone to me tomorrow, so I'll test this out and see if it makes a difference. I'm on the road until Thursday, so it'll be a few days before I can check on my home router.
The behavior on this issue just seems strange. It began intermittently, but then completely stopped working at my house (but still sometimes works elsewhere). Lots of people report intermittent issues, but a few seem completely broken. Not sure what to make of it, I'm just glad I was able to get a different device out of Verizon. We'll see if that actually fixes the problem.
I haven't had this notification until I got the Note3. Is it possible that its android 4.3? Or this tw 4.3? Anybody know if other folks get this with other devices?

I only have this problem if I connect to the wifi at work, which is odd because I'm about 7 unobstructed feet away from the AP. I don't get this anywhere else.
I had a Note2 on stock rom up to 4.3 and never had the issue. I have a 2012 Nexus 7 latest version, again, no problem. It's only on my Note3 with stock rom that this happens.

It happens on custom roms too.
I've asked a couple devs if they could remove it and they said it been like that in android for along time. But I never experienced it until my Note 3

Same here. Never happened on my Note2 but happens all the time on my Note3. I have two Linksys Routers at home for full house coverage and I can be in the next room and get that message. Just got it earlier. Same routers as I had with the N2 a few months ago. My Tablet, nor the Spouses HTC One Max have that issue and are connecting just fine, and stay connected.
I get this all the time. Got it on stock as well. Only really happens with my ghetto satellite Internet though lol

Has anyone with this issue installed AdBlock and/or an ad-blocking HOSTS file? I didn't start seeing this problem until I did both.
Whenever I see this message I can go into the speedtest.net app and pull a continuous 60mbits down, pretty much maxing my connection, and I never see any actual stability issues.
I think the system may have some connectivity test that's being interfered with but I haven't had time to go digging through the logs yet, so I wanted to see if anyone else had done what I did to trigger it first.
Seems to be two different issues being discussed here without really differentiating the two... the OP states that he is always getting the notification and "can't pull any data over wifi" ... others are saying they are getting the notification without really stating if it is affecting their overall wifi performance at all.
I'm on AT&T DSL... I was getting the notification ALL THE TIME while using the supplied (4 year old) AT&T 2Wire router and it would fail and freeze and disconnect and it was DRIVING ME NUTS... so i went out and got a brand new Netgear N300 router and problem is solved ... mostly
I'm still using the AT&T 2Wire as a modem... disabled it's internal wifi... ethernet cable to the Netgear. .. and BINGO!!! All my connection problems and data problems have gone away... i still get the unstable notification maybe once or twice a week but i figure that's a DSL thing... any little glitches in Internet availability will be detected by the device and displayed so that doesn't bother me at all.
It's almost like this phone does ping tests all the time and if one doesn't come back properly it throws the notification...
i was at a friends house the other day and was getting the notification constantly but was still able to watch YouTube videos and Netflix without much problem... so i did some speed tests on his wifi and his ping and upload were all over the place... His download speed was solid between 20 and 28 but his upload was never even close to normal and failed several times... and his ping was good on some and took forever on others... i also noticed Web pages would sometimes take forever to start loading ... Once they started loading they did so quickly but the start was painfully slow a lot of the time... This would indicate to me that the ping or upload connection has issues or maybe over congested on his iSP.
Anyway... hope this helps others iron things out

When I get the notification, it refuses to use the wifi at all.
I haven't noticed any problems with my WiFi. I host 6 wireless networks, and play with WiFi a lot, War driving, and wireless network setup is a hobby of mine.
One thing I noticed at several throttled Hot Spots My VZW note 3 would test the WiFi speed, if it was slower than 4G it would display a popup, something to the effect "Wireless too slow, using mobile Data" I can't remember the exact popup text. It might be a VZW thing.
I use the OOKLA speedtest, free from the play store. (After you run your OOKLA test, for fun drag the speedometer down to reveal some cool messages about Ookla!
A few wireless router settings I use:
Set 2.4 to N 20 Megs max. N 40 or AC mostly just creates problems with connections, and the neighborhood.
Channels 1, 6, or 11 in USA Use a WiFi analyzer app and pick a less cluttered WiFi channel.
Place wireless router up high away from electronics, construction, and stuffs. Mine is on a pedestal in a window.

Go to WiFi settings/advanced/auto network switch... and turn that off so it won't jump off slow WiFi networks

Thanks,
I just tested "auto network switch" on and then off. It let me connect to one of my throttled networks, without; "Checking quality of internet connection".
I noticed that it only showed; "network disabled because internet connection is slow" on the congested 2.4 GHz band, not with same router on 5.8 GHz.
Radio interference, location, and router settings, can cause many problems on wireless networks.

You're right, I noticed in my research that multiple issues seem to be getting lumped together. I think you're correct in that it's related to the router as well, somehow. I see the notification occasionally on slow hotel connections, but it's intermittent, my problem at home seems permanent. I can use some other wifi networks without problems, though.
That said, I used this phone on my home router for a couple months before ever seeing this problem. I'm guessing it's a combination of the 12/17 OTA update, and particular router models.
Verizon sent me a replacement phone, and it's running the previous build (MJ7 instead of MJE). I'll check things out tonight, and will report back.
Alright, the issue seems resolved on the new phone. This seems to suggest that it is related to the MJE build. So far this phone hasn't asked for an update, but I'm hoping Verizon doesn't break this again for me

Wifi connectivity issues

I constantly drop wifi in my house. Is this just my phone or is it an issue? Tried everything and won't stay connected. Network just disappears and then connects 10-15 second later.
I have some issues also. Just bad firmware on LG side
I'd check your wifi modem, I use my LG V10 on numerous different modems, and have no problems with it. It connects to my home, alone with a few places I go to, and even when tje signal is extremely weak. So I'm not seeing the same thing
Also have issues on Wi-Fi
2.4 seems to hold connection longer than 5ghz. Luckily I have unlimited data. I have almost never used WiFi on this device due to this. The problem is both on my Asus RT router and my brother's Netgear Nighthawk router. Both with latest firmware. I'd like to have the option of a stable WiFi connection though.

I've read a few posts that suggest being sure the MAC address of your phone is registered with your router. I've come from 2 galaxies and I do feel the LG is a little more sensitive to a low or fluctuating signal. I "feel" it, but everytime I actually compare, it doesn't seem to be the case
Thanks for the advice

Tried the registering the Mac on both bands. Tried several device resets. Disconnected all other attached devices from the router. Had much hope for this. But no bueno. Still dropped connection after less the three minutes. Disabled 4G and the other nanny settings for WiFi on the V10. Just hoping for the much needed firmware update (s) for this sweet phone.
Again, thank you for the advice and your time.
