Ota update while rooted? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone. I tried searching around with no luck but i rooted a friends verizon fascinate and the ota update fails to install with the message "ip failed last update fail" or something like that after it downloads and restarts. Anybody have any ideas? Do I need to reinstall the stock apps? Thanks

You can't OTA while rooted. Just flash stock GB or a new ROM.

Is there a way to do it without wiping the phone? As in unrooting and replacing the apps?

I'm afraid not. The only way to unroot is to return to stock.

[Q] How to unroot 2.3.4 Atrix

I had previously had Android 2.2.2 installed on my AT&T Atrix and done some research with no avail. I have yet to find an unrooting to 2.3.4, Need to return my phone, not really enjoying GB and sucky battery life. Will wait for a newer phone to come stateside. So please help? Method of root was SuperOneClick Gingerbreak 1.1 and then update OTA. Any working methods found yet?
THanks in advance. Hope for some answers soon, returning tomorrow.
I used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15023022&postcount=2
This is to root it but not unroot?
what he posted was to Root
just search the forum for aroot, it has the option to root and unroot or you can use RSD to flash back to a stock rom like 1.2.6 then just go through the updates to the latest if you so choose to,
I dont have an unlocked bootloader and Im not interested in doing so. Doesnt using RSDlite cause bricks on official updates. I tried unroot with aRoot and it just restarted. I tried unroot with gingerbreak and it is greyed out.
I had to return my first Atrix back in March and all I did was use "Root Explorer" to delete the SU files/apk and did a factory reset. If they intend on reselling it as refurbished they will flash a stock sbf anyways. Actually, you can find the stock sbf in the development forum and flash it yourself and it should return it to stock.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to go ahead and look for these files. Just wondering, where are they stored at?
Look here.
Be sure to read the thread. Also, you were right about NOT downgrading from the OTA GB, it will brick your phone.

I would actually prefer to just delete SU from the system (since it wont show any use of SU all together since I did do a restore) and I'm not comfortable with flashing and the chance of bricking.

i unlocked my BL and used RSD to go back to 1.2.6 twice with no problems, only time it will brick is if you OTA update to GB and unlock the BL and try to RSD back to a stock rom, as long as you havent updated to the official GB and use RSD you will be fine, at least i was twice
can i unroot 2.3.4?
would this work for 2.3.4? just deleting the files to send back to at&t for a replacement?

[Q] Rooted & Getting Erro when trying to upgrade to Mi1

Really new to this. I did the verizon root methed for ME7. It says can't complete upgrade. Do I need to unroot in order to upgrade to MI1? If so, how do I do that?

You don't need to unroot, but you do need to have the device in a stock condition. If you've debloated and removed stuff, or frozen apps, then the upgrade will likely fail.
I wouldn't be in any rush to install MI1.
Had same problem, now soft bricke my phone and need help

I was in the same position trying to accept the update from ME7. I had re-downloaded the stock apps and was in the process of converting them to system apps when my phone froze. When I tried to reboot I could not get passed the Verizon screen. I have been trying to read about how to fix this but I am unable to get odin to recognize my phone. I have downloaded the Samsung drivers and tried every version of odin but nothing happens when I put my phone into download (odin) mode and connect it with odin open. The rest of the steps seem easy if I could just get it to see my phone. Any thoughts, going on 3 days with no phone.

[Q] Stuck between ota updates

I have a S4 ME7. I was stupid and accepted the most recent OTA update. While update was installing I got an error. Now the update is constantly asking for permission to install and it always gets the same error result. I get a message that states no changes made to the phone, but when I look at the Build number and Baseband version, it now says VRUDMI1. I don't want to lose root and I certainly don't want to brick my phone. How can I get past this problem?
There is some way to disable OTA updates. Just Google around. I read somewhere in xda.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

MI1 is fine.
You can flash MI1 with ODIN and the use the root_de_la_vega methond to get root back.
I had the same issue. Now on MI1.
The only problem is if you want to run safestrap.

Sounds good. Only problem is I have never used Odin and I don't know how to do what you are suggesting. If I can get a little instruction, I am willing to give it a try.

Unroot NC5

I accepted the OTA for NC5 for my phone awhile ago and I would like to get warranty service on it because the screen is flickering. Does anyone know how to unroot the NC5? I rooted using safe strap and downgrading the system sans kernel and re updated with the rooted version of 4.4.2 I searched and could not find any guides and I was not able to find any original stock OTA upgrades to re flash Verizon OTA that they sent out before. Does anyone have any locations or ideas on how to undo the root? For giggles I did try the whole get rid of supersu from the system folder and uninstall supersu.ya that works for all but 5 minutes until you factory reset and it is built in. So I at least gave it the college try... Any suggestions or possible solutions?

Yes. If you root your android then you can't get OTA updates. Rooting make changes to your android system partition. OTA updates check modification to your android while flashing and found any modifications then OTA abort. If you get OTA updates on your rooted android and you flash then it chances to brick your android.
You want to revert back to stock to get OTA updates.

Yes. If you unroot then you go back to stock.
If you flashed custom recovery then you want to flash stock recovery again to go back to stock.
