When/if the devs get source... - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

What do you think will be some of the first "game changer" MODs/ROMs/kernel tweaks we'll see? Be creative.

I don't need much and I'd be totally happy with this phone..a real fix for multitasking..and the WiFi issues..I can't even download a rom to my phone without it failing if the screen goes off..driving me nuts..also someone mentioned a aosp rom with sense widgets and camera UI..that would be sick ..when does source typically get released? I know Sammy has been good about that lately

What is this WiFi issues everyone is talking about? I've downloaded roms on WiFi with screen off just fine, but I just can't wait for the kernels to come out... HTC is very unpredictable when it comes to releasing source. It took the EVO shift 3 months to get and sometimes it takes s couple of weeks. You just never know

The WiFi is def finicky..wish it wasnt..but when source is released that's when the fun.begins..esp since a lot of problems are most likely Kernel related..where's netarchy nowadays?

I just want AOSP. Getting rid of Sense will be the best game changer yet.

Wifi fix would be nice. It just randomly loses connection for me. I'll just be sitting here surfing the Web and it will lose all data, connect briefly to 3g, then wifi kicks back on. All in about a 5-10 second cycle.
Fixing the focus on the camera app would be good too. I know there are some work arounds but I like everything to just be built in to the rom I pick.

Sense widgets won't happen the only source they release is kernel source.

Us gs3 source has been released..Samsung is on the ball lately with that..and of course I have my WiFi to always on

Yeah my wifi is wonky too. It's set to always on but I still have the issues with it staying "connected" to wifi after its long gone and connecting to one sometimes doesn't give me data until I reboot or cycle airplane mode.
Sent from my GT-I9300 ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha using Tapatalk 2

According to GPL, source has to be released within 90 days of release (at least I think that's correct, anybody please correct me if I'm wrong.). I'd love to see Gummy, AOKP, CM9, MIUI and a Sense ROM similar to what mikeyxda did with the EVO 3D. I'd also like to see some overclocking and undervolting. Also some better video compression out of the camera. Just a wish list though. I wish I could help out. I may start digging in Smali and Java just to see what I can figure out.

It seems to do it on other routers too. Not just my home one. But it could go days without me noticing it happening, and then have it pop up again.
It's like it gets the hiccups.

Can't plus 1 this comment enough! Get rid of sense!!! Only reason I bought this instead of gnex was cuz of superior HW, but with intention of getting rid of HTC crap and putting AOKP on ASAP.

[Q] No data/full bars/cover on/wtf

Hi,
So as the title states i have 0 data [3G/LTE]..
Background:
This afternoon my rezound went dead and wouldn't charge.
So after 6 hours on the charger and no turning on my girlfriend came home with her rezound. i popped the battery in and it started right up except it wouldnt boot all of the way.
After a few tries i wiped and tried again. Still no go. So i wiped and went to flash a backup and sdcard wouldnt mount. After a few unsuccessful tries on device and computer i pressed reformat. That got the SD working.
I downloaded a few roms both ICS and GB wiped and installed. None will provide me mobile data. It sees wifi networks just fine.
My girlfriend has both LTE and 3G and i have full cell bars.
WTF!?

Well this sounds to me like a phone specific problem. I've heard of people's batteries going dead and not charging again, but I've never heard of no data before. If I were you I'd take it back to verzion. I heard they're offering people galaxy nexuses as replacement phones for people who have problems with their rezound!
Hope I helped!

IM not trolling I had a no data issue leaving work and was going to mention it. The only way I fixed it was a full reboot. Also after I rebooted I was stuck in cdma prl. Changed it to cdma/lte and it started working. The weird thing was it said data was on but no 1x 3g or 4g. Toggled everything and nothing helped cept the reboot.
Also atleast HTC doesn't make you wait for over a year for a barely updated version of the same thing and make you feel like you need it (Apple)

Wow. Well I'd just take it to a Verizon rep at one of their stores and see what they have to say because the battery problem is definitely a recurring problem with other rezound users. I don't know about the no data problem though. I've heard of people constantly dropping data, but I've never seen someone who doesn't have it at all.

You can always try a different launcher.
I think that for some custom roms (specifically xboarder56's) you can disable the 3D effects by a Tweaks app that comes pre-installed in the rom.

This device is more complicated than that.
However once you unlock your bootloader it's fairly simple.
I know NRGs Energy ROM also has the tweaks to disable the carousel and 3D widgets if you want. I actually think it's XBoarder's tweaks app just borrowed.
Like binary said, it's rather simple to unlock and root, just very time consuming on this device compared to many others. Binary put together great step by step instructions.

Everyone has a different opinion on battery life. I typically get anywhere from 16 to 28 hours of battery life depending on amount of use. Got the same on stock ROM with brightness turned all the way down.
If you like Aosp go with galaxy nexus. There is no telling when we will get Aosp Ics. If you prefer Sense though definitely go with the amaze. Its a great phone hardware wise! The real big difference is the software and camera. If the camera is a big thing for you maybe the amaze is the way to go. Its a much better camera.
Great phone, there are only two issues that my phone has:
+The capacitive lights bleed onto the main screen.
+The flash for the camera bleeds into the lens.
Besides that everything works perfectly!
Concerning battery: for me if my phone stays on standby it will last for days, but if i use it heavily it'll give me a good day's use out of it.

I was also torn between these two phones myself. I decided to settle with the Amaze due to the mediocre camera on the galaxy nexus, and also the lack of expandable memory (they seriously seemed to have pulled an Apple with this). The nexus does have the 720p screen (pentile though), but the Amaze offers the perfect blend of screen size and resolution. It seems like we do have a few hardworking devs, so it’s a matter of time before more jump ship to Amaze with more ROMs available.
One of the reasons I went with the Amaze was due to the back of the phone. I actually think hardware wise it is one of the nicest phones out there.
Like others mentioned, battery life just depends how you use it. I get between 8-14 hours depending on my day. That is quite a few 20 minute or so phone calls, texting a good amount, web browsing, g-talk quite a bit and a little BT streaming of music and movies. Streaming of the music and movies will really suck it down quick though. I know someone else who has a black Amaze and.gets 5 hours, but he is always downloading movies and streaming music.
It really is a great phone and it does have a good camera, just have to have decent lighting for a good picture.
Might run into a couple small issues like light bleeding into the screen from the soft keys lighting up. There are a couple apps out there to shut them off. I believe the G-Nex suffers from the same exact thing. That and the flash bleeding when taking a pic. I personally have yet to have that happen though. Seems common enough though.
Good luck! There are some good peeps on this board and especially in the Amaze section.

There's a thread somewhere on here about it, but the gist of it is that the dual flash isn't confined/separated enough from the lens so sometimes you get some light bleed on the bottom (or however you hold your phone while taking a pic).
Supposedly you can fix it with a tiny piece of electrical tape, it basically mimics the effect of putting the dual flash in a housing unit (like the sensation has). I haven't noticed it enough yet to do that, but it does bug me that HTC produced this phone without fixing that...haha

I tried multiple roms and so far it seems there is no fix.
For example I was on the web browser. Backed out with the home key to go to home screen. I then went to settings to change my display settings went back to browser and the whole page had to reload and refresh.
My GS2 and Galaxy Nexus was better then this phone in the performance department.
Not to mention after you start installing apps and setting up your home screens the phone just gets slower and slower and less snappy.

Bad enough that my lte is sitting in a drawer as I use an alpha cm9 build on my evo 3d. Multitasking, background downloads stopping, and overall sluggishness compared to stock drove me away.

Plain old phone rom?

Has anyone ever thought of making a plain phone rom? The only thing it does is make calls? It would be like 30mb or less rom, insane boot times, underclocked, insane battery life. Might have texting as well. This would be mainly for giggles but might be a fun project for someone to do.

Or have a Nokia style, with signal bars on left, battery bars on right then date and time in center.

First impressions of my LTEVO (1 week in)

Well everyone, I decided to pick up the "Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE" with its long name. I didn't even bother using the Stock rom longer than 5 minutes before I had AOKP on it. Here are my first impressions.
The build quality is great. My main gripe about Samsungs phones, is that they all feel cheap. The LTEVO feels great in hand, with its weight and materials. I really like the aluminum band around the device as well.
The camera is second to none out of all of the camera phones I've used to date.
The screen is insanely good. I cannot get over how clear things are, and it might be just me but I swear the surface feels more slick than most displays out today.
Over all battery life has been impressive as well, but that could very well be due to the extensive tweaks I've enabled on my current rom, Pacman rom.
Now, my only issue with this phone is the sound output level. It is so low, that I literally cannot hear it at max volume if I'm sitting on it. I've tried everything possible from CDMA workshop, to QPST to Volume +. Nothing has worked thus far. Is this a common issue or should I try to return it to Amazon for a replacement, or go through sprints TEP (I pay the 11.00 one) and get a refurbished one?
How are you managing to sit on it and not bend it?

lol I think you guys are too cautious about your phone. I'm 6'0 and 240-250lbs and I don't worry at all about it bending/snapping/breaking/being crushed/disappearing.
Of you flashed AOKP then you gave away the "camera that was second to none."
The aosp camera is not the same as on sense.

Agreed, sense cam is MUCH better, ...but sense is not. I just was using sense last few days and it's pretty noticeable.
As for volume, yes, it is very low. But, if you're using AOKP from tmartin build 3 or 4, you can use the volume fix zips that are in his thread, and I think they're in B-reezys code name android OP. There's a 68 a 70 and a 72. I used the 70, worked well. I Dont know if they work with the more recent builds, the bases and kernels have changed a lot since they were made.
Good luck.

I'm no longer using Tmartins build, I'm on Pac rom. I wonder if it'll work for that? I'll flash it here in a minute and let you know.

I flashed it, nothing broke as far as I can tell. It seems like it's a little louder. Try it yourself and see if you can tell a difference.

I flashed on PAC ROM too thanks it actually did increase the volume. Is 70 the best one? How are the other fix zips???

Those zips break VVM and some other stuff on newer builds. I can't remember off the top of my head what all it breaks, but I'll see if I can't dig it up.
I use Google voice, it's too much of a benefit being able to text from Google voices Web page from my number without having to worry about apps like mighty text or airdroid etc.
