[Q] Proximity sensor not working - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I have a peculiar problem in my new Galaxy S3. Whenever I make a call, the screen remains on even though I have ticked the 'Auto screen off during calls' option in call settings. Also, whenever I input any numbers while in a call, the keypad does not hide. I mean I get the 'Hide' option but it doesn't do anything and the keypad stays on the display. Can anyone tell me if this is a known issue or am I the only one facing it? Is there any workaround this? I am on stock firmware (XXLF2) and haven't even rooted my phone yet. Please help me guys!

I have exactly the same problem. I know the proximity sensor works, because I tried the proximity sensor test app. But my phone does not turn off screen when in call.

i have same problem any one help us ?

I also have this problem.. and to make it worse, I can't seem to call out occasionally. I swipe to call, but nothing happens. I can't even dial out at times.. rebooting usually solves the issue, but the problem quickly comes back.
I'm not rooted, on stock rom. Anyone know what the issue is?

OK, it looks like for me, it was a conflict between Google Voice and the phone. Turning it off/disabling it fixes the problems I've been having. I'll have to see what exactly is causing the conflict, but at least everything works with it off.

Where exactly is the option for turning off Google Voice?
I looked in Applications All but couldn't find it.

Check under 'Voice', not Google voice. It's also an option on the Voice widget.
If that doesn't fix it, try rebooting and doing it again.

'Voice' was my search pattern. It's got to be there I'll find it.

Hi guys,
Did you find a solution to this problem yet? I have the same problem, and no matter what I do, I can not make it work. The screen is always on during a call. I am using the stock rom, without root, as it is.

Nevermind. I fixed it by removing FSC ID, apparently it was interfering.

i had the same problem but it was fixed after i made a phone restart.

I have the same problem...

FIXED: Answer button doesn't answer, data connection turns off after call

That post fixed my problem, as well as fixed the problem which the data connection turns off after a call.
Hey guys, sup?
I have a huge problem with my TELUS Touch Pro. Great phone, but just one problem...
Whenever somebody calls me, I can't answer the phone. The onscreen "Answer" button doesn't work, the Talk button doesn't work, pressing the Select button doesn't work...pressing the headphone button does, but sometimes my headphones are in my pocket, or sometimes they're not with me at all!
The only way I can answer them is by ignoring the call, and calling them back. It sucks big time.
Anybody have a solution? And no, I'm not hard-resetting my phone. It started doing this for my first call, so I'm pretty sure it's not my fault.
HEEAAALLLPPP!!!
Is this the stock ROM?
Do you have BT on and connected?
Mine started doing that yesterday. I did a hard reset and so far everythings back to normal. Still do not know what it was tho
I just had my TP replaced and the new one did the same thing, I did not notice until a few days later as I use a bluetooth headset and pushing the answer key on the headset worked. I had to RTN the device to make it work properly. Have not had a problem since. it has been aabout a week and a half.
Sometimes I've noticed this happens when my memory is tied up elsewhere, ie media player or something. Try soft resetting your phone every morning that might help clear it up.
I have had this happen with me on my Titan which I recently traded in for my Touch Pro, and also on my Touch Pro. I noticed it coincided with installing iGo8 GPS software on both. A hard reset was the only way I found to fix it. Uninstalling the software did not do the trick. I could be wrong about the software title I am blaming, but I have everything reloaded on my phone except that, and all is well. I do have a Slide To Answer incoming call screen now with the MightyRom 4.9.5 rom installed, maybe this is a work around, don't know for sure. If anyone else has more feedback, let me know. I would love to find a fix for it so I can use my GPS software.
Mine started doing this crap last night. I reinstalled the S2A cab and just let it go.
I am starting to think it might just be the telus network being a boatload of suck. Mine does it with the stock rom without any programs loaded from time to time. I am thinking it must be the tower failing to acknowledge that you want to answer the call, so the phone keeps ringing becuase it sees there is an incoming call but the tower ignores that you are trying to answer it. This is just my guess based on what I have read about CDMA, I wonder if any GSM users have the same issue.....
Do any of you have Advanced Configuration installed? This is what caused this problem for mine and my brother's TP. Uninstalling didn't fix it. Had to hard reset.
Yes, this is a known issue with Advanced Config, perhaps some other apps as well. Try this fix.

I can tell you that this will more than likely fix this for you. Mine was doing the same thing, applied this, done and shut! Good luck.
OMG OMG OMG thanks!!!! That also fixed the problem where it ended the data connection after the call.
Sorry I took so long, I THOUGHT I was subscribed to the thread...
Thanks again!

proximity sensor messes up voip calls

hello everyone
after much debugging of this problem, I think it has to do with battery saving option in the ROM/Kernel.
while having a voip call using sipdroid or magicjack, the proximity sensor turns off the screen and causes the sound to cut off completely. i think the mic still works because i was able to record a voice message while the screen is turned off by the sensor. this also means the wifi signal was still on.
sipdroid has the option to keep screen on during a call. this options works very well. the screen dims but does not turn off completely. on the other hand, magicjack does not have such an option.
why i think it is a battery saving issue is because while the phone is plugged in to wall or laptop, proximity sensor does turn off the screen but the audio is not cut off and everything works just fine.
anybody knows a fix or a workaround for this issue?
the problem is the same on cyanogenmod, MIUI, and Team DIRT. i think i had the same problem when i was using ICS before i switched to jellybean.
thanks
Have you tried the "keep proximity sensor on" setting in the call menu? make sure it's unchecked. Was just asking because you didn't mention it in your post.

yes. it is unchecked. however, magicjack uses its own dialing app. sipdroid is fine because it has the option to disable proximity sensor.
but more importantly, is this a normal behavior? shouldn't i be able to turn off the screen via proximity sensor and still be able to chat? maybe graphics and audio processes are in conflict when the proximity sensor is activated.

i should say, this only happens when the phone is unplugged. i.e. running on battery. i dont know what it is trying to do. maybe save battery. how can i access such settings?
also, i use sipdroid with another voip number. magicjack has its own number and its own dialing app.
I am back to ICS and everything works fine. maybe this problem will go away when htc releases an official jeally bean rom.

actually, the only ICS rom that worked flawlessly is the stock rom. i ended up flashing a rooted stock rom. the problem is gone. finally.

In-call touchscreen issue!

I've had this problem with my Xperia Z2 since I've owned it. I've had firmware 402 and now 314 and it's still the same.
The problem is that when I'm in a call, the proximity sensor works and turns the screen off but the digitizer does not turn off! So while I'm talking and pressing my face against the phone it detects input and sometimes I even hangup on people.
Anyone else experience this issue or have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?
Hi. I had the same problem. So I installed an app called "call screen lock". That solved it for me.

Thanks but I don't think I should have to download another app to fix a bug.

You can use the work around until it is fixed or suffer the bug. Why not complain to Sony?

Voice command keeps popping up randomly

This is very annoying and it happens a lot when I'm listening to a podcast or music in my car using the aux port. It also seems to happen a lot when my data is turned off and my phone is picked up and put down randomly. Really starting to piss me off and I have disabled voice command settings to no avail. Anyone else having problems like this and what can I do to solve this without root? I also just updated to the latest ota so I'll have to see if it fixes this problem later.

If it's the same thing, it happened to me also. It's the program called Voice Mate. You need to freeze or disable that program and all is good. Try settings/application manager and go to the "all" tab. Search for anything that has "voice mate" in it. Disable it.

I'm having the same problem, but i the disable button is grayed out. I've tried clearing the cache and uninstalling the updates, but it still won't stop.

Are you rooted? If so, use Titanium Backup to freeze it.
Did anyone find a solution this problem? It is happening to me too (especially when I'm playing music or when 4g is off) and I can't disable Voice Mate because it is greyed out.

Took me weeks to figure out but I had to download the swift keyboard app, then remove my PIN to get into the phone, then go into SETTINGS, BACKUP & RESTORE, then Factory data reset.
Be sure to backup all your data first.
I read another post last night in the LG G3 General Forum about this issue. Several of the posters stated that the 3.5mm audio plug is causing the voice mate and voice command to activate when using the headphone port. Several people also stated that they could duplicate the concern repeatedly by turning or twisting the plug. Don't know if it helps anyone here but it looks like the same complaints I read about last night. I'll see if I can find the OP that discussed the issue and post it back here if I can.
Has anyone found a solution? It's happening the same thing to me. Every time I wanna use the jack port (just to listen to music), Voice Mate pops out and it's really getting on my nerves!! I wanna get rid of it, but I can't delete it, just deactivate it (and I did, but it keeps popping out)... I don't wanna be root, because I'm scared of messing up my phone. If any of you guys found the solution without being a root, I'd be truly thankful for life!
OH MY GOD IT'S BEEN HAPPENING TO ME TOO AND I THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY.
I found that it may have been related to water -- when I was running and getting sweaty, or it was raining, the problems were happening. So in terms of what I've done, I have frozen: LG VoiceCommandSpeechPack, Voice Command, Voice Mate, and Voice Mate Engine. This didn't fully fix the issue -- now, I just get random pauses and unpauses occasionally and it's due to the same problem of the jack port being wonky. It fits perfectly, it's not jimmying inside the port or anything but it's definitely re-creatable, it's such an annoying issue...
It's weird, after many restarts and cache clears the issue has definitely gone away, where before it made listening to music unbearable now it happens once in a blue moon, again subjectively I think it might be moisture or water or something.
This began harassing me also two days ago. Nothing fixes it that an ordinary user can get to, including what little I can get to with Google Settings/Search & Now/Voice/OK Google/. In my case, I cannot manually cause the effect by doing anything with the 3.5mm audio jack on the phone or any of several earbud jacks. Think I am going in to my cell phone vendor tonight after work and raise my voice a little to see if I can get them to fix the problem. Sux! Almost makes the cell phone unusable.

Phone call issue with stock firmware

Hi,
I have an very extrange problem with last stock firmware ( 10.5.11.BE86AA) on my Nord N10 5G (model BE2029), when i receive a call, not show caller on screen (nothing appears, black screen), i need to scroll down notification bar and see who is calling and answer or end call. I use default phone app, no dialer app installed.
Any kind of help is welcome .
Thanks
This is one of many issues I had, and just posted my solution that fixed this issue as well. It also fixed the camera app, SMS receiving causing reboots, and a ton of other "Google app" related problems.
Solution: Constant Reboots Stock Oxygen OS 10.5.14BE86AA
Sorry men, but i'm continuous with my issue on stock 10.5.14BE86AA.
Please, i don't understand your solution.
Regards
I have the same issue, please let me know if you resolve!
Reboot your phone.
Tried many times, even did a factory reset. Still occurs.
Ok, I solved it. And I feel very foolish. It was the case. Take the case off and it worked. @nosenose I hope that helps.
