How do you check the counter?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2

volume down, home button and power button at the same time. wait for it to enter recovery mode and press volume up.
you will see it on top.

What does the counter count? What's the purpose in resetting it?

In case you have to turn your phone in for warranty purposes. It is said that the Samsung techs will check for the Triangle count and if it is >1 void your warranty.

So has anyone find a way to reset this counter ??
My counter >3 .. lo I had no Idea that using the old vibrant jig tool would trigger a count. And of course YES I did three times.. I am a Lamo.. LOL
There goes my Warranty . Boom !

wow tired of seeing this...
NO RESET FOR US VARIANTS NO RESET FOR US VARIANTS NO RESET FOR US VARIANTS The jig does not work nor does t-away. THERE IS NO RESET FOR US. to follow progress id go here http://twitter.com/ChainfireXDA/. Heres his last post on the issue

Galaxy S2 (NO Disply)( Seems Dead !!!

Hello Everyone,
While trying to Flush my SGS2 with a cooked room using Odin my device got DEAD.
This is what happened exactly:
1- After successful room flushing the SGS2 got rebooted but unfortunately it did not loaded the room.(Stuck in boot screen_Black screen with Samsung Galaxy S2)
2- i waited several hours for the galaxy to let go the boot screen but it wont.!!
3- i pulled the battery then put the galaxy back to download mode and retried flushing the room but it was giving the same result.
4- unfortunately after doing the same several times the device got DEAD..
Now:
- I cant power on my galaxy
- When connecting it to PC nothing Happen (Odin does not show any device connected)
- Plugin in the charger, The galaxy got heated.
I am just thinking i have missed up the partition table, please mistake me if i am wrong.
Or any one can help in this.
Note:

yes the 301k resistor does work on the SGS2 aswell.
Just fro your information i have just checked with one of my friends he is having the same issue.
He used the same resistor 310K on both SGS2 & SGS1, unfortunately it only worked with SGS1.
Any way i will try it on my device and come back soon.

same jig for SGS2 .

Damn, yeh i got the same problem, my galaxy s2 is dead. Won't power on and screen is completely blank. So i'm guessing a jig wont help it, unless proven otherwise.
The same thing happened on first boot of my first SGS2. I pressed the Power Button, played for like 2 mins with TW and then the phone stuck and switched itself off.
Long story short, I couldn't get it to switch on again, so I sent it to service and the response was it had a faulty motherboard.
So I think you should return it. My 2 cents.

warranty is not really an issue, I belive under UCC and under normal statutory law in EU that the retialer is legally responsable for 2 years. If it's unfit for purpose in that time, you simply return it. If they refuse, you ask them to put their refusal on paper for the record. Often it turns out fine

USB JIG for ATT Galaxy S2

Does anyone know if the USB JIG to reset the flash counter and fix bricked phones used with the international galaxy s2 version will work with ATTs version of the galaxy s2?
Thanks.
I guess I was on the assumption that the same USB jig I used for my captivate will be the same? If not for the other sgs2's is it different? I thought I had read that the captivate USB jigs worked on the international version. I guess we will find out come Sunday.
I assume they will be the same, I just ordered one from ebay. Never needed it with my captivate, I've had it since the first week it was released and flashed to may roms to count with no problems.
I read in the European forum that it does work but. Also something about putting a resistor in series between a certain connector and the pc. Had to do with flashing something. The details escape me.
sent from my Infuse at Tranquility Base.
it will probably still work to force it into download mode, as for reseting the flash counter we'll have to wait and see.
Unfortunately, I had no luck with the captivate jig on my i9100. It didn't go to download mode for me. Not sure if this will apply to the AT&T version or not.

I ordered the jig from Mobile Tech Videos that was supposed to work with the AT&T SGSII, but no luck in getting it into download mode.
Mine worked. It measures at 302.1k.

I have one that work with Vibrant T959
I just tested and it worked with both the AT&T version and the i9100 as I have both.

I just received mine from Mobile Tech Videos and it worked as expected. Turned off SGSII, inserted JIG, download mode appeared, custom binary count is zero, removed, powered up phone and the yellow triangle is also gone.
Well worth the $9 even if you only use it in case you ever need to return or exchange the device.

Same with the one I paid $ 4.90 for off of Ebay, just powered off the phone, plugged it in while driving home, phone instantly went to download mode with a message of Download Update.zip removed. I pulled the batter and no more sgsII i9100 and yellow triangle on my att sgs2. It was weird to see i9100 there for an i777 lol but well worth it in my opinion.
But having rooted and unlocked as well as saving the efs folder was nice and not having that yellow triangle feels better.
HTH,
Charlie
Just ordered my jig to reset the flash counter the only question I have been unable to find an answer to is whether or not I need to revert to stock before using the jig or can I use it with CM7 installed already?

The JIG works on ALL Android cellphones which use and are compatible with Odin.
It does not matter if the phone is international or not.

[Q] - Does rooting permavoid your warranty?

Haven't found this. Is rooting this device reversible in such a way as ATT cannot tell you ever rooted it and warranty/insurance would cover it if something comes up with the phone?
Rooting is reversible. You can use Odin and return the phone back to stock.

I tripped the flash counter on my ATT SGS2 and it even had the big triangle with exclamation point come up on boot after the counter was triggered. I had a problem with calls dropping and they could not determine the cause and I was able to swap it out for a new one in store even with a custom rom and the counter tripped. The guy at the ATT store didnt even pay attention when it booted up with the big triangle on the screen. I don't know if this guy just missed this or if ATT just doesnt care all together.
I think if you are really worried about your warranty then I would wait until a solution comes around to either reset the counter or root without tripping it in the first place just to be safe. Because when I got my replacement SGS2 they had already come up with another method that did not trip the flash counter.

Picking up this bad boy today. I wanted to root it first thing for no ads and to use mybackuproot to restore all my apps from my old HD2, but I guess I'll wait. If I get a bad screen or something I don't want them to say "well you tripped the flash counter, so we can't do **** for you"
if its a hardware problem they still have to replace it weather you rooted it or not. bad hardware is bad hardware. i have had people atleast on sprint return devices that had custom roms for what ever reason and as long as its a true hardware issue it would play no difference on the return

are you sure about that, I thought rooting violates all warranty claims.
depends on how you root. rooting a phone wont do much of anything. messing with your kernel will. kernel is what gets you in trouble most of the time.

I mean the carrier can say "no" to everything even if obviously the root didn't cause the problem because technically rooting voids the warranty. I've known Sprint to do this.
I'm not talking about what they "should" do or if rooting does anything bad, I'm talking about what ATT ACTUALLY does in these cases.
Buy a USB download jig. It resets your flash counter back to 0.

Read the forums. People have already tested and said multiple times that the jigs don't work on the Note due to a new bootloader.
I'm just curious as I'm new to this.
Not being a negative thinker here, but is there a chance that there will NEVER be a method that will reset the counters back to 0? Jig or what other methods can be used?
I love the Note and I was really excited on all this rooting stuff until I found out about this one. I have bad luck with gadgets as they fail on me most of the time even before the contract is up. It would be a pain that if it happens, Samsung will deny me the warranty because of that after paying $299.
Or could this "New Bootloader" be the new "Locked bootloader" (Like the Atrix when it was lauched?)
Thanks

It's not a locked bootloader because it's already been rooted. But it is a new bootloader that apparently really wants to count flashes.

Yes I have read the forums.
It does work on the new bootloader (been tested and done on 2.3.6). For reference see this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354888
However on the AT&T version it has not been tested yet. Only on the Int'l version. I would wait for confirmation to see if and when the AT&T version has been tested.
Another way to do it, once ICS 4.0 comes on this phone, is to use Chainfire's app called TriangleAway (have to be rooted) and you can reset the counter back to 0 as well. Someone did it on their Int'l Note by flashing the ICS 4.0 leak and then using TriangleAway. Then using Odin to put on another ROM.8
So basically the questions are
1) can you flash something which does not trip the counter which can be fully restored to stock that roots your phone?
2) Is there a way to bring the trip counter back to zero?

International bootloader =/= AT&T Bootloader. The different SoC's and build dates along with other factors mean that we can't use the jig method right now. There is no downgrade bootloader for use to use, even. We're stuck.

That's for the international note, you just hard bricked your phone. International roms aren't compatible with our phones and vice versa. Hopefully you're under warranty or have insurance...

N7000 is NOT the same as i717. Can you still get to recovery? Hold vol+, vol -, and power for 5 seconds or so until it shows samsung logo, with luck you will only have screwed your main kernel and still have recovery to flash a working i717 one. If not do Power+Vol+ for 5 seconds for download mode which requires Odin on PC to flash a cwm/twrp recovery or stock rom.

if you can't boot into download mode, your Note is dead , pull the battery out, leave it for a minute and while holding the volume down, stick the battery in and see if it boots into download mode. I'm not going to ask why at this point of time anyone wouldn't know the difference of the two model Notes, it happened at first right after the US Note came out , anyways, you can try to get your hands on a jig and force it into download mode if nothing else works, pretty cheap http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-download-mode-jig/ , I have one and all you do is plug it in the usb port and it should automatically boot into download mode, they don't have one for the note but the galaxy s/vibrant 4g/nexus should all work.
If you can get it booted into download mode you can save it with the proper rom flashed thru odin, the n7000 boot.img/zImage is what killed your note, you can't use the kernel or modem from each other.
Good luck.

Using a jig is completely different than JTAG. Jig simply boots download mode, and probably won't work. JTAG involves soldering something on the motherboard and costs about 50 bucks if you ship it to somebody to do, which could save your phone possibly. And since you didn't read enough to know the difference between the international and ATT notes, you should probably read a lot more before the next time you try something.

Sorry for your loss....
It's an expensive (and avoidable) lesson to learn...
(Reading for comprehension)...is mandatory around here, to avoid a paperweight...and I'd rather risk being flamed alive for asking a repeat question, than to brick my note due to lack of understanding. The difference between these two devices is "very" easy to spot with minimal research.
very sorry....g
Sorry man. I read a lot before I started anything with an iPhone or android. There are devoted sections to each international and states note. At the very least you learned a huge lesson. Try a warranty exchange or insurance and you'll be good to go again.

I gave you the only answer you need ! Unless you can boot into download mode your Note is D.E.A.D.-S.O.L.... if it won't boot to download mode, either make a USB jig or buy one like I showed you, even gave you a link for it or claim warranty/insurance. Don't know what else you want, maybe someone can take a trip to your house and do it for you.....

After reading posts by the OPer it reminds me of a movie, remember rush hour "do you understand the words coming out of my mouth!" Well I also think your note is dead, JTAG probably.

Brick means dead. Paperweight. It happens. JTAG.
Here is a link to mobiletechvideos

I just broke the rules by posting that, you're welcome.
That is listed for the international version, but at the bottom it says "valid for the at&t lte version"
Josh is a trusted member of xda, and he has zombified many phones.
As stated above, this type of repair is the only hope you have of saving this phone.

The most important button in SGS2

I guess I overestimated how important Home button is in SGS2. I actually think now it was the biggest mistake of Samsung to make a physical button (isn't it also made Apple mad since it looks like a button from Iphone and that is why they are dragging them in courts). Anyway my Home button died unexpectedly. First I decided that I will survive but turns out that without this button my SGS2 can barely be used. Plus also to send it by warranty I need to wait now for the JIG in order to restore complete to factory since can not go to Download mode. Sorry if this is useless thread - just want to steam my sadnessr somewhere. Not I am really jealous for our friends from SkyRocket community since they don't have any hardware buttons in the same place - which makes SGS2 much better device then original. I guess I got a bit upset and even started to think about SGS3 upgrade however it also has this hardware button so potentially also can brake. Anyway if you have any thoughts just post them.
What caused the unexpected demise of the home button?

I think it is my daughter I think she pressed it too hard when she plays games on the phone. I know it is ridiculous answer but it is true.

It is not ROM related. I tested buttons in CWM and Home button doesn't respond at all. Thanks for the post.

Thanks for suggestion. However I need to wipe the flash count anyway - so I need a JIG. I know that I could have done through Chainfire remove the Triangale app but in the end it looks like JIG is better and cheaper solution. But thank you again for ideas.

triangle app is way better option especially if you have a new bootloader.
If you have new bootloader, jig will not even reset anything
Yes you need to flash old gingerbread bootloader to rest flash counter with jig. Triangle Away is free for XDA users.

Thanks you for help. I didn't know that you have to go back to old bootloader. I also didn't know that it was free for XDA users. Well I wanted to donate Chainfire long time anyway. All I need now is to put back stock ICS and I will send the device.
